Samandriel Nanuk watched as Jerra pushed through the crowds to stand before him, dark eyes narrowing in slight annoyance. He didn't kick her out though, which was a good thing perhaps. Probably because she presented his court with trophies. Getting up, he heard everyone go quiet. His huge feet carried her the few steps down to the feline to retrieve the trophies, looking down at the body parts. Hm. He would have liked to see the entire bodies, but he supposed this was fine. "I assume you captured a few? The leaders at the very least." He looked at her again. "I still want some to be thrown over the Cliff, as I had explained." His impassive gaze had developed a bit of annoyance, but he wasn't necessarily annoyed with Jerra. Just with the possible fact that he would have no bodies to make examples out of.

At this she grinned, finally lifting her head to look up at him, his awe-inspiring silhouette. "There are the three elders of the insect tribe, and five warriors from the wolf tribe. As well as a few women and children from each." Despite not having everyone, she knew he would be pleased with these numbers- sufficient for an example. Perhaps some might even beg to defect, or beg for mercy, or blabber on and on at the edge.

More were alive? Hornet stepped forward involuntarily. They needed to escape. They needed to run. But they needed help, and what could a royal guard, attached at the hip to the King, ever hope to do? Her hands trembled- in pain, and in fury. This cat-girl was to blame. For leading the attack, she was the one to blame for all the terror and loss of life.

Samandriel The polar bear grunted. That meant the leaders were dead. What a shame. Huffing, he waved a paw, saying "Round them up, and spread the word of the punishment they are to recieve. It is to happen immediately." Why would he wait to get rid of people who hadn't even taken the time to try and negotiate with him? Well, the insects did, but that was after he had decided they would die. Their fault for being so slow. He watched as one of the soldiers in the room immediately left to go spread the word, and he told Jerra "Have them brought to the Cliff, where I will look at them. I suppose one or two should be kept alive to spread the word to any other parasites that might be lurking around so they can all move along." But who knew. He wasn't ever feeling very kind, so the captives might all still go over. And that was that, Nanuk already moving to leave the room, motioning for his royal guards to follow him.

Hornet followed with a clenched fist. Jerra had risen after he left, and when the cat had thought everyone was gone even squealed in delight at having done a good job. Hornet felt sick. She jogged to catch up with her King, and felt her hand slowly moving towards her side, where Nail was kept. Her trusted weapon, strong and light and able to pierce steel like a needle through cotton. He subconscious movement didn't surprise her- no, she had often seeked the comfort of the cold metal- but that she did this as she gazed upon her King did.

Samandriel The king paid no attention to the guards following him. He was currently on his way outside, watching people move about their day. Some were already chattering about the event that was to happen soon. Good. Hopefully any other rats looking to freeload would be deterred from such. As he walked down the steps and out toward the commons, he could hear people yelling for mercy among the cheers to let them be killed. A snort was what the sympathisers got from him. The captives would die, and that was that. Annoyed again, he just continued on his way.

The swirling magic was golden in color. Well, perhaps not the magic itself but the energy that came from it. Akriel could differentiate types of magic based on the colors he saw. He was not sure if the colors were different for everyone, but this was the first time he'd seen such an elegant color for magic. His eyes widened and he watched the energy move about, casting the spell and weaving through the fabric of time. The more he watched the more he understood the basics behind it. It wouldn't be easy to learn. The complicated spell wasn't one that you could learn on your own. You'd almost have to have someone teach you. When Dakar finished Akriel nodded again, slowly "I see. That won't be easy... but I don't run from a challenge."
"They certainly would. I bet they'd think ya wouldn't notice a quick and silent thief." Eri joked "You've probably not had to deal with pickpockets or magic that's used for stealin'. You'd better pay attention or that weapon of yours might disappear." it was said playfully, but there was truth to her words. Finally they turned a corner and she walked into a nice looking building. At the counter was a dog humanoid. She looked up when they entered and smiled warmly.
"Welcome back Eri! I assume you have something you want me to watch?" Eri nodded and handed over her stuff. This shop was run by one of the sharpest dogs in the area. Her hearing was attuned to both physical and magical movement so she could catch any thieves. It was the safest place around.

There were many women and children- those who couldn't fight even if they wished. Cursed chains of society around her neck! She would not stand for another massacre. But what could she do? She would beg. With a shake of her head, she realized this was the only option. Beg for them to be spared, given a chance to leave Jhotinai forever. And upon her word as a warrior, perhaps Nanuk would have some mercy..? Never. He would never, and yet it was her only option. Besides, of course, helping them escape. Even as she opened her mouth to speak directly to her king, a plan was brewing. "King Nanuk." Hornet began boldly, coming to a stop behind him.

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Dakar laughed a little. "Not easy indeed. Time is not something you can just pick up like pyromancy or even alchemy. It is something this world runs on, so it is almost like you are tapping into the power of the world, if you learn to use it correctly." Looking around, taking a few steps, he bent down and picked up a rock. It wasn't big, rather small, not going to hurt when thrown. Too much. "I first learned how to cushion the impact of things." He tossed the rock up. As it fell down, it seemed to do so slower than normal, until it lightly tapped his nose and fell to the side and onto the ground. His magic then worked again, allowing the rock to retrace its steps, and he gently grasped it again. "So that is what you will try. Slow the rock." And with that, he simply threw it. At least it wasn't a boulder, right? Would Akriel get it his first try? Absolutely not, but sometimes you didn't really learn if you only did something once.

(I love how simple, and yet astronomically intricate the implied physics is here. ft=mv therefore f=mv/t By extending the time (t) you're decreasing the overall force considerably. And the scientific theories and laws that had to be proven by mankind to get to that formula (the one for momentum) is crazy. Considering these people aren't even close to the times these laws were discovered, they still understand that concept. Crazy to me.)

Samandriel Nanuk looked around the area, at the captives and at the people screaming for them to be thrown over. "Patience!" he said with a booming voice. "We must summon-" He was interrupted. Turning slowly, he looked down at Hornet. What could she possibly want at that moment? Or did she have some news? Grunting, he took a step toward her and huffed "What? What is it?" He ignored the noise of the crowd, even the soft whimpers and sniffles he could hear from the captives over the mass of different noises. As he waited, he heard a horn blow, a loud and dull wail. The call for the Glutton to come to the Cliff. "Make it quick," he growled to the guard, still staring down at her.

Now her hand was tightly gripped against the hilt of Nail, its comforting cold the only thing keeping her from silence. The only boldness she had. "I-I, with my warrior's word, beg you to let the people of the insect tribe go. To let them leave Jhotinai, with the punishment of slaughter being enough." Hornet choked out, unable to meet his gaze. He would be appalled by her words, she knew. And she was ready for nearly anything he would reply with- even physical confrontation, to a point. But her heart demanded to speak, her cold steel within her grasp a reminder of the insects she loved.

Samandriel The citizens and soldiers around her sneered and laughed at Hornet's proposition. Yelled for her to be thrown over too. Nanuk furrowed his brow as he stared. Was he surprised. Not nearly enough, no. "And why would I do that?" The people laughed at Hornet some more. "So they can leave and infect some other land? Or so they can plot against me and cause more annoyance?" Snorting, he shook his head. "You haven't even seen them in forever!" He then looked over as someone else rushed up. Oh, not her again. Staring, the owl showed up, robes shifting around her with each light step. "Hornet is right," the priestess said to him. "You haven't even monitored them enough to be thrown over! At least allow them that! The wolves too!" Nanuk laughed, though it almost sounded unamused and even dangerous. "Monitored? They've been hiding from us for the longest time rather than approaching me. They're cowards."

Do not disregard them the chance! As you know, the insect tribe did send an envoy- to discuss joining the kingdom! And would not the wolves be considered brave for taking their place upon your lands, and refusing to leave? Bold, I would venture!" The royal guard glanced over to the priestess, all at once praying to every primordial who would hear her thanks. It was perfect timing.

Samandriel For a moment, something flashed in Nanuk's eyes, like he were considering something. However, it was gone within an instant. It would seem that some entity did hear Hornet. Just not the right one perhaps. The ground shook, people becoming nervous at the vibrations. Nanuk turned toward the Cliff, ignoring Luna as she murmured prayers. At first, nothing more happened. Then, a huge appendage grasped onto the cliff, claws digging in. People scrambled back as the second hand came, the huge blue beast rising up, wings flapping to keep his winding body from sagging down with nothing to grasp on. He exhaled, the growl of his voice slipping out like poison. Nanuk simply turned to Hornet. Looks like she was out of time. Luna stepped forward again. "Please! Reconsider!" She shrank back as Nanuk raised a paw. It almost looked like he was going to hit her, but he instead pointed a finger at her. "Enough!" he snarled. His attention was drawn back to the Cliff at a scream. Kalonymos had taken hold of one of the children, lifting them into the air with his huge hand. Just as he was about to drop the little girl into his jaws, Nanuk shouted "Wait!" Did he want to save them? No. Not one bit. "I don't think anyone told you who was getting offered up!" The serpent closed his jaws, hissing "Then who will?" Nanuk hummed. "Hornet." Turning to the guard, he continued "Two from each. Four for him, the rest for us." He ignored the priestess as she tried to get him to change his mind, saying that that was not for him OR Hornet to decide.

Hornet's face paled from behind her mask. Was she being asked to consider the deaths of others? Even as she had stood so boldly against her king, ready for the blow she had expected, instead the attack had been directed to her heart. "M-My king, I don't understand. Are you... asking me to decide?" Life and death in her hands. She never wanted it, and certainly not this way. But she hadn't a choice, in the face of an overwhelming situation.
She began to pad forward, passed Nanuk, so she could see those whom she was condemning.

Samandriel "Do it," Nanuk told her. "Or they all go over." Everyone was watching her, and he watched as Luna laid a hand on her shoulder in attenpted comfort. He then looked over as the massive creature spoke, telling the guard "I'll make it one person easier. This wasp squirt here is mine. So, three left, girl." Nanuk simply watched, curious as to what Hornet would do, considering Kalonymos shaved off half of the insect decision by half. Maybe that would make things easier for her. As he thought it over, he merely turned his gaze to the cowering captives, all of which were shamelessly begging her not to choose them, the kids hugging the legs of their parents while looking up in fear.

Hornet bit her lip. This was asinine. Her life, and pick three to go with her? Perhaps her tribesmen would accept this- pacifism finally accomplishing its intended cowardice. But she couldn't believe herself. "Please step back." She whispered to Luna. Then, lifting her head to face the massive beast, she spoke. "I choose the two wolves furthest from you. They are the cowards, and will fair the worst." She glanced at them, feeling their heated stares. Then, to the insect tribe she looked, and shook her head. "As for the tribe of my people, I need only choose one? Very well. The elder, who watches me without a care in his eye. He has already given his life up for his people." And when she glanced to him, his smile confirmed her suspicion- he wanted her to pick him. ( Smokey Feather )

Samandriel Nanuk watched as she made her choices. Hm. He looked over at the beast, who couldn't care less. "Very well, girl." He looked down at the kid in his hand, looking down at her wide eyes with nothing but hunger. The poor thing squealed and squirmed as he lifted her up again. Luna almost gagged at the sight that came next, and the king rolled his eyes. This happened regularly, so she really needed to get over it. Next came the two wolves, eaten alive. Then the elder, Nanuk never looking away as the beast even picked his teeth with some body part or other before eating that too. "And, for dessert." The bear raised a brow as the Leviathan swiped up one more kid, the little wolf shrieking in terror as he was picked up, his eyes almost popping out of his head they were so wide. There wasn't too much anyone could do though except watch as the pup tried to free himself.

Even at their screams, she turned and simply gazed upon the ground at her feet. There wasn't anything she could do, and she had gotten her wish. The others may now have a chance. When the Leviathan had finished, she raised her eyes to stare into the King's eyes. Was there any mercy present? Was there any remorse, or regret? Her own eyes were filling with tears, not from guilt or sadness, but from rage. If she could have had any chance against the monster, she would have lunged upon it. But the only person she could blame was Nanuk. And perhaps that wasn't the best idea, jumping him, either. She needed somewhere to deposit her anger, and that was quite clear. (Perhaps Luna pulls Hornet aside, away from poor choices? lol)

Samandriel As everyone went about their day, the huge beast simply smirking down at Hornet before detaching from the cliff to leave, there wasn't much else to say or do. Luna wanted to tell some people to clean the blood up, but that would get her in trouble. The blood was always supposed to stay. As the remaining captives were herded away by soldiers, and Nanuk left back to the castle, the owl quietly walked over to Hornet. "You are lucky he let you choose," she murmured "There was nothing he could do when Kalonymos actually showed up." It might sound like a plan to stand against the Leviathan as a group, to stand their ground as a kingdom, but tales had been told how he single-handedly had destroyed a kingdom, that he dwelled in the ruins of its castle. "All you can do is try to make sure your people who were spared do not end up there again." Putting a gentle hand on the guard's shoulder, she walked them both away from the scene mostly for Hornet to cook off. "How about you join me for some tea? I dont think you should go back to the castle for a while."

Samandriel Luna walked with Hornet up to her little place of operation. It was a decently sized building of stone and wood, with plenty of space to tend to wounded or homeless. Some others were already working away, and smiled at their mentor as she walked past them. She would go with Hornet to her room, which actually fed into her little private garden. There was a wall around the small enclosure as well, so they wouldn't have to worry about privacy much. Having Hornet sit in a chair, she went to her fireplace to get some tea started. "I hope you don't mind milkberry tea," she spoke gently. "There'll be a touch of peppermint too." Once she got the tea going over the soft fire, she went to sit in a chair close to Hornet, both of which were on the "invisible" border of her room and the garden. Looking out at the plants and trees, she was quiet for a moment before saying "So... I think you should hear this now, whether you want to or not, but don't go do anything about today. I'll never like it either, but... the outcome of any anger toward the king will not bode well for you as of now."

Hornet shook her head. This should be obvious, she thought, but yet her anger had blinded her into such a fog of action. Thankfully it was wearing off, as the passionate flame had little kindling without the sight of Nanuk. "You would have me do nothing, in the face of my people's execution?" Alas, this was an impossible question, so Hornet quickly modified; "Instead... Would you have me stay here?"

Samandriel "This has been a practice for many generations, to keep us out of severe trouble with the Glutton." And he has always kept his promise. "Your people were executed to keep the entire kingdom safe, Hornet. That doesn't justify the action, but it saved us from the guarantee of so many more dying." Luna looked out across the garden, just studying the setting quietly for a minute. "I don't know if the king will ever outright show compassion, but he did take your request into consideration. Usually all captives in that situation would go over." She would've liked for them all to be safe, but Nanuk was a cruel man. Sighing, she added "Just try to think before you act. You probably won't want to stay here forever, which means you'll be returning to the king soon." She then smiled slightly. "Enough of such talk though. Let us speak of something else?" Anything else?

Smokey FeatherHornet let all the wise woman's words sit with her, let them brew within her mind. There was nothing she could argue with- yes, it was cruel, yes, it was necessary, and yes, she should keep a level head. But not wanting to stay here wasn't due to the quiet, serene atmosphere of here- no, she preferred it even. She was a bug at her core, even a warrior herself. No, she wished to leave to find revenge for the occurence. But even now Hornet knew their faces would blur into memory, that she'd done all she could. There was no reason to continue her endeavor against such a mighty ruler as Nanuk- he was a necessary evil against the gluttonous monster below. 'Here' wasn't so bad after all. Perhaps talk focusing on someone else? "I... I've noticed the executioner more as of late. He's everywhere it seems, always nearby. I believe he was there today, as a matter of fact. Do you know anything of him?"

Samandriel Luna tsked softly as Hornet asked about Kenku. "That beast is worse than the Glutton, who at least eats his kills. Kenku finds no use for the corpses besides cutting them to bits." She then looked over as the tea became ready. As she got up, she added "I prefer not to speak with him, and I simply have found out as such from my afar view as well as whispers." Walking over to the fire, she used a cloth to retrieve the kettle and pour the tea into cups. Soon she was walking back toward the guard with the steaming drinks, handing one to Hornet. "Why? Has he done something you? He shouldn't be messing with people aside from his duties, you know, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were a shady man regardless." Sitting back down in her own seat, she blew on the tea a bit before taking a sip.

Hornet tried to organize her thoughts, jumbling a bit as she began. "He didn't do anything, hasn't tried anything. There's just this one thing that's been in my mind. One time I was singing," A look was shared to Luna, that simply demanded her silence on that tidbit of information, "And I would've sworn I heard him join in from down the hall. I thought I was alone on my patrol, and when I went to find him, he was gone. But I can still hear his voice."

Samandriel Luna raised a brow after taking another sip. "Odd, but that doesn't really change too much of anything. Just that you might have heard him singing." What did that have to do with anything? "Certainly of no interest to me. A killer that sings well. Hm." Looking away again, she just looked out across the garden, studying the plantlife again with no lack of interest. "Why do you ask? Possible interest or something?" She didn't really understand why though, but Hornet was likely a killer too, of some fools who thought they could get close enough to attack Nanuk. Looking over again, she cracked a small smile. "Pardon for such negative words, but I'm not one for any kind of violence here... killing mainly... I just wish everyone could get along." Such hopes would never be realized though, and she knew that.

Smokey Feather"It does make you wonder however. I thought he was a silent murderer, whom never spoke." She shrugged and leaned back, setting the tea upon the table to cool off. Hornet realized she really had no reason for her interest- it just seemed uncharacteristic of the executioner, to join in song. Perhaps he was like everyone else- hard exterior, soft interior. Hornet had to nod, however. "An idealistic world without war or death? Yes, I believe there is not a single living being who would not be for that. Aside perhaps from some of the Immortals. But you know of what I speak."
