Deadly QuillsKarametra | Karametra Ke'tal | 14 | Female | Neziri | | Karametra is often considered a pretty plain looking Neziri girl. Standing at approximately 5'5 in height, she has a pretty average build, neither skinny nor heavy, not flat or busty, but that of a semi-straight stick. She has longer arms and legs though, making up for a shorter torso, giving her a more runner type of build. Her skin is a dark ivory color, freckles speckling her cheeks, nose, and along the length of her arms. Her hair is a dark auburn color, gentle waves falling to her shoulders, thin bangs wisping across her forehead. Her eyes are a bit on the larger side, giving her perpetual brown doe eyes. If you've ever seen a cardinal's red wings, then you have seen Karametra's wings, which are the same red color. Outside of her uniform, she always wears a metal armband around her left wrist that looks like vines wrapping up her forearm. | Karametra is a rather shy girl, often times shying away from other students that she doesn't know. When someone can get close to her, however, she is easily excited, always smiling, and sometimes easily distracted. She's loyal to a fault, which is part of the reason why she so often separates from others without getting to know them. | | Karametra grew up in a pretty normal life with an older brother (five years older than her, Dreon) and a little sister (three years younger than her, Falcasla). When she was little she used to belong to a small group of friends, however, when they realized how loyal she tended to be, they used that to their advantage, often turning her into a scapegoat so that only she would get into trouble. This went on for a few years, but when her parents found out about this, they pulled her away from that environment, not allowing her to see her 'friends' anymore. When the Academy opened up, they decided to send Karametra, hoping that maybe she could make some better friends and learn more about magic. The metal band she wears is an ancient family heirloom, passed down to the first born daughter when they turn twelve years old. Her father is a recorder, her mother in education, and her older brother is in medical services. | pool of darkness| Intro to Magic, shadows and where to find them I, manipulation of dark I, Magic History I, Magic Ethics | | Karametra enjoys writing poetry and loves history of all kinds. One strange thing about the Neziri girl, is that few people have ever seen her fly. Rumor in her neighborhood was that she couldn't fly, but in truth, she's just a very uncoordinated flyer. She's not very coordinated in the air, but to make up for it, she became quite the parkour runner, using her environment to get to places that normally required flying to get too, using her wings as supports and more like glides to descend. | Alphy | Älphönse (Alphy) Vinter | 17 | Male | Human (Siren) | | Alphy stands at a solid 5' 9" tall. He has semi broad shoulders, as well as a decently toned body. Nothing too ludicrous, but it's obvious he exercises on a regular basis. His skin is strikingly white, yet not pale. His hair follows very close, being a very light gray color, almost white, as if he had aged many years too early. And old gray, yet a very clean and silky gray that betrays his true age. This hair reaches down to his waist, but is always kept in a high ponytail when in public. Despite his light colored body and hair, his eyes are a deep blue color, lightening as his iris approaches his pupil. He has a fairly handsome face with well defined features that seem to be in a perpetual scowl. Alphy hates sleeves. Anything he wears on top will either be short sleeved, or will have their sleeves rolled up, whether or not a certain dress code permits it. When outside of class, he prefers to wear regular sneakers with socks, baggy jeans and boxers, a hoodie with its sleeves cut off, and a teal colored hair clip. | You know that stereotypical delinquent in every academy or high school show ever? The one who always complains about class, doesn't listen, is a huge grouch that everyone is kind of afraid to look at, and is always getting in trouble and threatening his school career with his actions? Yeah, Alphy is that guy. And much like that stereotype, he has a a backstory to back it up, as well as a sweet, loving, caring, and surprisingly easy-to-be-around side to him as well. | | Älphönse is an illegitimate child. His father was a well known soldier, not because of any huge acts or anything, but because of his loyalty and his ability to lead better than most. A man that climbed the ranks quickly. On one of his campaigns, he happened to run across Alphy's mother, a siren who had been shunned and exiled from her pod due to her being born mute. Alphy's father captured the girl and took her as a trophy, having Alphy born to her. Realizing his mistake, Alphy's father quickly abandoned the two, using his military campaign as an excuse to leave and never come back. Although she was mute, Alphy's mother was more than capable of surviving and communicating. She had taught, raised, and named Älphönse herself, before teaching him water magic. Her deficiency in species related features, ie her voice, was more than compensated in her magical understanding and power. Alone, she was able to mentor the boy into a strong wielder of the powers. It wasn't until he turned 15 that Alphy met his father, who had returned with a guilty conscience where his left arm once was. Over the course of a year, he was able to regain the trust and love of the woman that had his illegitimate child, despite being married and having 4 children elsewhere. But Alphy was nothing but a nuisance. The boy hated his father for what he did. And tried to prove it with his power. As soon as it was revealed how strong and reckless he was, his father tried to force him to go to the magic academy in order to learn discipline and self control. Älphönse was able to avoid this for 2 years through multiple means before his father was finally able to literally restrain him and send him to the Academy, with a threat towards his mothers safety if Alphy were to compromise his education in any way. Which explains his age entering as a first year. | Water (Ice) magic | Intro to Magic, Magical Ethics, Magic History I, Water Generation and Manipulation I | | Despite Alphy's adept ability to use water magic, specifically in ice form, he has never been able to achieve a water form more than changing the outer layers of his upper arms and lower legs into ice. While he most certainly has the ability to cover himself in ice, it is not him "transforming" into it. | Water Magic- Water magic is the second elemental magic, and it allows for the manipulation and creation of water. This also allows the user to breathe underwater, but only for limited periods of time. Similar to fire mages and all other elemental mages, water mages can take on a Liquid Form- converting themselves into beings made solely of ice and water. This allows them to manipulate their own body, contorting it into unnatural forms. However, if not fixed, when converting back into a normal form, these contortions may become permanent. The Pool of Darkness- Similar to light magic, dark magic deals with the manipulation and summoning of darkness. This is more of a support magic, allowing the user to envelop themselves and others in shadow, travel from shadow to shadow nearly instantaneously, etc. A connection to the pool of darkness also gives the user superior darkvision.

(I find it funny how they are three years apart (Should I age up Kara? I am conflicted), but both are first years XD) (Okay, so first question: Do we want to start where we left off? Or do we wanna begin with a new introduction for them?)

(Nah, she can stay 14. 3 years is an alright age gap imo. Also it's Alphy's fault he's so old and a first year lol.) (It's up to you. I wasn't thinking to completely redo them meeting, but if that seems like it would create good roleplay I'd be down. When I was thinking about it, I was imagining them interacting slightly after the dance, but we could totally redo it. Maybe even a new intro without the dance. idk lol)

(I mean, my fiancee and I are 3 years apart, so I can't say anything technically. We met when I was 14 and he was 17, so...I just realized that like all rps seemed to have characters that were the same age XD) (Well, We have three choices: Redo the whole thing, redo but start in the same way *Dance conflict*, or I could repost our last two replies and go from there. I'm cool with anything.)

(Okay, then eventually Karametra is going to decide on Darkness Magic, which totally contradicts her, but that's what makes it amusing.)
Your last post: Älphönse shrugged at her year comment. "I mean, I'm a first year too. It's all about attitude in my opinion." The boy said to Karametra. "Anyway, I'd assume that the food would just be in the same hall that the dance is in. Why would they put it anywhere else.", he asked, looking down at the girl as they walked.
My last post: Karametra looked at him in surprise, "you are? Oh jeez, I'm sorry, I thought you were an upperclassman!" She gushed out, eyes wide and face turning almost as red as her wings as she looked down at her feet. She walked in silence after that comment, not believing she had just assumed such a thing. It was embarrassing to her, to get something like that wrong. I really can't judge people well... She thought to herself, only barely glancing up as they made it to the dance hall. She almost stopped in her tracks seeing so many people in the Grand Hall, the mingling bodies never ending. She wasn't used to such a crowd of people, she'd never seen some many people together, and certainly never seen so many races together in the same room. The bright red of her embarrassment quickly faded into pale horror, afraid of what people would say, what they would think.

Alphy stopped in his tracks as soon as they walked into the ballroom. He noticed that Kara had also froze. He may have been a delinquent that cared little for what other people thought of him, but there were so many.He took in a deep breathe. He was doing this for mother. His stomach growled. Looking down, he realized he was lying to himself. He was doing it for his belly. Looking back up, he scanned the room, looking passed the mob of sweaty teenagers that were "dancing". Spotting a long table covered in food, he leaned down close to Kara's ear. The room was packed with people all trying to talk to each other, as well as loud music blasting. Getting almost too close, He spoke to her "The food table's over there. Wanna head over?" He asked, pointing to it, completely ignorant of how close he just got to her.

Karametra jumped in surprise when she realized how close he suddenly was to her, brown doe eyes impossibly wider as she looked up at him, though she didn't have to look up much, he was only four inches taller. "Wha-What? Oh...Food?" The young Neziri seemed temporarily confused, to shocked by everything to even comprehend what was happening around her. Glancing around, she managed to notice that the thinnest part of the crowd was by the food table, though it didn't seem much thinner. "R-Right, food..." she said, looking at him again and smiling pleasantly. Her wings rustled a bit in her nervousness, seeming to pick up on every glance towards her, every words spoken about her, even if none of it was actually at her.

(Do we want to start some kind of drama, or do you want to keep it mellow for now?)
Did you know chemistry is really cool? There are about 118 different elements that make up everything in existence, and more are being discovered periodically. It's said that Lead is one of the densest elements to exist, second only to Alphy. Granted, with the sensory overload that was going on at the moment, it was understandable how he completely missed the fact that he was close enough to nip her ear, but my mans was hungry. His mind was on one thing at the moment. He nodded and smiled a Kara, before leading her around the edge of the crowd towards the food. He kept his demeanor calm despite the fact he was near panicking on the inside. Yes, he was a "tough guy", but he grew up in the steppes hundreds of miles away from the school. The largest group of people he had ever seen was a trader caravan about 20 individuals large. Okay, that was a lie. He had seen the one-armed gorilla's army, which was about 10,000 strong. But it didn't really register with him at the time since he was too busy being mad at the ape that was his father to notice.

(Perhaps mellow for now? Maybe noting talk about the two first years but nothing like fight worthy for the moment. They are already scared little cinnamon rolls right now)
Karametra followed him silently, unable to think of anything to say as she shook her head. That was a little close...Kinda scary... Her thoughts vaguely told her as she looked around at the people. She'd never seen such a grouping before, so used to only seeing Neziri and a handful of humans, that all these species together, mingling so innocently, was weird. Of course, she could hear voices, picking out a few in the crowd, but she couldn't pick out what they were saying to well. Ignore it like brother said...Don't let anyone get under your skin...Don't let anyone suspicious near you...Wait...Is Alphy suspicious? I don't think he is...But I didn't think the others were either. She looked up a him as she followed, wondering how much she could trust him, however much he trusted her.

(You got it bwoss)
Älphönse came up to the food table. It had been a real journey to get to where he stood now. Alright, I say journey, it was really only about 100 feet, but like, there were so many people who were all actually paying attention to him as he and Kara walked by it made the 30 second walk feel like literally forever. Alphy also felt so anxious as the two walked over, he failed to see that nearly no one else was “with” someone. The room was filled with people, but most of them were standing in groups of matching species, gender, or just a large group of people in general. Yeah, there were a few other couples, but they were either dancing together, playing tonsil hockey in a corner, or socializing with groups of people anyway. Not to mention the fact that they were getting the same stares he and the doe eyed Neziri girl were getting. Gently pulling him arm away from Karametra, he motioned her towards the table, grabbing a plate. Two plates came up as he did, so played it off as if he meant to grab two by handing one over to Kara. He smirked at her as he did, before turning back to the table. Yes, the idiot smirked. He didn’t smile. Cuz he’s an idiot. Legitimately thought he was smiling right. This is why we don’t bring him out into public very often. I promise he doesn’t bite.

(Oh man..."Tonsil hockey" I'm never gonna get that phase outta my head!)
Karametra looked around at the people, her head tilted slightly as she tried to understand what was going on around her. So...Everyone still sticks with their own people? Maybe because it's the first social event of the year? Her thoughts suggested, looking around at the couples and her shoulders slumped slightly. Oh...Even they are pretty much the same species...That's sad, is something wrong with other species? She couldn't understand it, why people were so segregated in the manner that they were. Granted, the young Neziri had been outed by her own people, a scapegoat for childhood games that she never understood. She looked over at Alphy as he pulled his arm away before staring at the plate, not entirely sure what to do with it if she had to be honest. Her mind totally blanked out in the moment before she shook her head furiously. "Th-Thank you..." She said as she took the second plate, not seeming to notice the smirk or awkwardness because of her own awkwardness.

Alphy started to load his plate full of food. He wasn't even paying attention to what he was putting on his plate. He kinda just went down the line and grabbed a little bit of everything in order. As soon as he got to the end of the table, there was a punch bowl. Putting his plate down, he grabbed a cup a poured himself some. Taking a sip, he grimaced. "blechh! It's warm! What kind of party serves warm punch?" he asked to no one in particular. Dipping a finger into the punch, he held it there for a second before retracting it and taking another sip. "There, much better." He looked over to Kara and motioned to the bowl. "You want some?" He asked before grabbing something on his plate and shoving it in his mouth.

Karametra watched him curiously as he grabbed a little bit of everything from the table. She was a little more wary herself, wondering who had put the food out on the table before taking a small selection if choices and placing them on her plate. Glancing at him again, she started giggling softly as she heard him complain about the punch, "I-It must have been sitting for a while." She mused gently, walking over and setting her plate down before she started to get her own cup of punch. "D-Do you prefer cold foods and drinks? B-Because of your ice magic?" She asked, again honestly not knowing as she had not been exposed to anything except really enchantment magic in her life.

Alphy shoved something else into his mouth as Karametra asked him the question. He shook his head, taking a big gulp of his punch to help wash down whatever it was before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand and turning to look at the Neziri girl. "Not necesarily. I'll eat literally anything, it's just that some foods are supposed to be warm and some cold. At least in my opinion. Ice cream is supposed to be cold, steak is supposed to be warm. The only warm drinks I'd really enjoy are tea and coffee, but even then I prefer iced coffee." He said, stuffing something round and pink into his mouth. "Huh" he said while chewing. "I guess I do prefer cold thing. When it comes to drinks at least." He said around his mouthful of food, looking back at the girl. "Probably just a coincidence."

Karametra tilted her head to the side as she listened to him, giving a gentle smile before nibbling on a cookie. "I-It's funny how you just realized that." She said in amusement, glancing around when she felt like someone was watching her. Well, it wasn't just one person, but several, and she glanced at her plate before shaking her head. Nothing new, mean words and accusations were something she was used to at this point she had to remind herself. She looked up at him again as she continued with the cookie before picking something else up. "I-I mean, I know some things are meant to be warm or cold...I'm not that bird-brained."

Alpine blinked at Kara. He had bitten halfway into a piece of something else when she had said that. He pushed the rest into his mouth and began speaking again. "That wasn't a comment towards you're intelligence or anything. I was just explaining how my brain worked." He said and chuckled. Swallowing the thing, he chugged some more Punch before he noticed the expression on the Neziri's face. It was a split second, but he had noticed it. Looking out into the ground, he finally noticed the stares. This brought a scowl to his face, and anyone who made eye contact with him quickly turned away or walked away. Alpine grunted disapprovingly. "Buncha preppy stuck up jerks." He said loudly.

Karametra looked around before looking up at him in surprise at his loud outburst, "D-Did they do s-something?" She asked curiously, moving on to the next thing on her plate before taking everything over to a table so she could set her plate and cup down. Her brown eyes flickered around before glancing over at him again, her wings fluttering behind her before pressing against her back again in her nervousness. "There are a-a lot of people here, I-I expected a-a lot more to skip..." She murmured.

Alpine shook his head. “Nah. They didn’t really do anything. They’re just standing there, judging us. Like they’re better than us.” Älphönse said as he scanned the crowd closest to them. The scowl deepened even more. Alphy remembered why he hated crowds. It wasn’t the large amount of people. It was the silent judgement. The looks of disapproval or pity, the thoughts that they were better than him. He got enough of it when the crippled baboon paraded him around his soldiers. Yeah, they all seemed friendly or said nice things, but every single one of them had the same look in his eyes. Every one of them knew he was an accident, an illegitimate child. One who shouldn’t have existed, someone who was basically sub-human. And Alphy hated that look. Alphy snapped back to reality when he heard his teeth grind against each other. He realized his jaw was clenched painfully tight, his fists were balled up and white, and he was breathing heavily in anger. If he weren’t an ice mage, steam might have even been coming out of his ears. Whipping around, he dunked his cup into the punch bowl before turning and walking gruffly in the direction of the door. “I’m leaving.” He said abruptly, almost forgetting who he was talking to. Had he been level headed, Älphönse would have felt terrible for how he had just talked to Karametra. He would have even apologized. But he was in a very bad mental spot at the moment and was determined only on leaving the room filled with judging eyes.

Karametra tilted her head slightly before looking around, "I mean, they probably are better than me...I don't know much about magic..." She said honestly, unbothered by the judging looks in that manner. She was used to the looks, came to ignore them through time, I mean, a Neziri who couldn't fly? What kind of nonsense is that idea? She was reminded of it constantly as she climbed up the mountain and glided or jumped from branch to branch. She was different, never tried to be the same, but she was also naive and easy to trick. She jumped in surprise when he said he was leaving and started away, setting her plate down before she scrambled after him, eyes wide as she watched him. Did I do something wrong? Did I say something he didn't like? Did I hurt him somehow? Please...don't leave... Her thoughts cried out as she stumbled, her wings stretching out behind her to keep her from falling, and startling several people around her. Apologizing quickly, she scrambled again before grabbing his wrist, looking up at him with wide eyes, "W-Wait! I-Is something wrong? Please...talk to me..." She said, her voice breathy as she was gasping for breath, her cheeks flushed red from scrambling after him. Her brown eyes gave away her fear, but she wasn't afraid of him, she was afraid of him never talking to her again. She thought she found a friend, someone willing to deal with her spaciness.

Älphönse whipped around to face whoever grabbed his wrist. He began to pull his arm away when he saw it was Karametra. And she was not looking at him with a nice look in her eye. He didn’t know what she had in her eyes, but they were not the pretty doe eyes from before, filled with happiness. Alphy hesitated. He then quickly twisted his wrist to free it from her grasp before grabbing her wrist. “I’m sorry if this is too rough, but we’re leaving now.” He said. He turned and began to pull he through the crowd towards the door. Pushing through groups of people, he made sure not to pull on Kara to harshly, but he was still in a bad mood and his comprehension of his grip and his speed were compromised at best.

Karametra looked up at him in surprise, half expecting ice to come at her from some angle when he turned so fast to look at her. She released as soon as he started to twist his wrist, afraid again she had done something wrong, or blame her for some unknown reason. Really, reasons appeared to be a last year requirement, she couldn't name the number of times she had been blamed for something she knew nothing about. She looked more surprised when he grabbed her wrist, but said nothing as she stumbled after him. "C-Can you s-slow down please? I-I can't keep up..." She said, though she didn't accuse him of anything, she just didn't want her arm to hurt or trip over something. She followed oddly obediently, not even attempting to ask where they were going or what was happening.

Älphönse was dead and blind with rage at that moment, and Kara’s plea was drowned out by his own angry thoughts. Pushing through the doors, he stopped and looked back and forth to get his bearings. He began to drag Kara again, but slower this time. Still a fast pace, but definitely slower than in the party hall. After a short time, he came up to a dorm room. He quickly opened the door, pulled Kara inside, and slammed the door shut, locking it. He finally let go of her wrist, only to walk into the center of the room and pull his white dress coat off. He threw the coat against wall with one, making a motion with his other hand as if he were throwing something with it as well. Five razor sharp icicles shot out and skewered the coat to the wall. The boy fell down into a crouching position in the middle of the room and gripped his head. Silence followed.

(Yeah...Drag a girl around until pulling her into your dorm room and locking the door behind her...ssssoooo not gonna scare the poor child any there Alphy. *Rumors are going to spread, that's so going to be a thing now*)
Karametra yelped in surprise as she continued to attempting to follow him, her brown eyes wide as she looked around at where they were going, but couldn't seem to get the words to come to her now. She wasn't sure whether she should be worried or terrified, having never been to the boys dorm area. She stumbled with a small yelp of surprise when he pulled her into the room, and looked at the door in surprise when he locked it. That was knew, and she was fairly certain she remembered her brother lecturing her about something like this, but it was slipping from her grasp. Instead, she pressed her back, or rather her wings, against the opposite wall, watching him throw the coat and then the icicles at it. She didn't even notice the weak, thin little tendrils of darkness twitching at her feet, knowing next to nothing about magic, and definitely nothing about her own magic. She knew she had it, her parents were happy when they saw it, but she didn't understand it. "A-Alphy?" She asked softly, trembling a bit as she held the arm close to her that he had been pulling.

(In his defense, he wasn’t thinking straight. He just wanted to get away from people, and she didn’t want him to leave, so that was the next best thing in his mind. And either way, he’ll probably get some guys coming up to him and giving him some wink wink nudge nudge smirks)
Älphönse didn’t respond to Karametra. At least not at first. The room was silent for what felt like hours, even though it was really only seconds. All of a sudden, Alphy’s body spasmed. It was a single spasm, light but noticeable. “I’m sorry.” He mumbled, barely audible. His body spasmed again. More silence, followed by the obvious sound of a sniffle. Another spasm, followed by “I’m sorry I pulled you into here.” He said, sniffling again. “I’m sorry I dragged you into this.” He mumbled. He spasmed again. He fell back onto his bum from where he was crouching before the hands that were holding his head went to his face, wiping it under the eyes and nose. That’s when he started to really cry. Audibly. “I’m so sorry!” He cried softly, words between sobs.

(Doesn't help he's with a very oblivious person to which everything goes over her head. At least she's honest about it though.)
Karametra tipped her head slightly as she watched him, wondering what the spasm was about. She jumped in surprise when he spoke, having grown used to the silence, but the words and sniffle caught her off guard. She looked around almost frantically before finding a tissue box. Picking up, she slipped her rather uncomfortable flats off, also as a courtesy not to wear shoes in other people's homes, even though this was a dorm. She walked over and sat on her knees in front of him, setting the box down and holding a tissue out to him, her eyes wide and worried. Her wings stretched unconsciously, almost like a shield, encase the roommate returned. "Y-You didn't drag me into a-anything, I-I sorta dragged myself." She said with a small smile, "So th-there's nothing to be sorry about. I-I shouldn't have tried to stop you, seeing h-how uncomfortable you were with the crowd."

Alphy sniffled, looking up into the girls eyes. Those big, brown, intoxicating eyes. He could have looked at them for eternity, but he caught himself staring and looked away quickly. Snatching the tissue from her hand, almost aggressively, he blew his nose. He had calmed down. Which was something else that he noticed. But he didn't care to find out why. He was experiencing a roller coaster of emotions at the moment and wasn't really sure how to feel. "Don't you dare take any blame for what I did onto yourself. You had nothing to do with this and I dragged you here without your consent. Nothing I could have been feeling would have justified my actions just now." He said and sighed. He buried his face into his arms, which were crossed resting on top of his knees. He'd made a fool of both of them. He'd painted a target on his head by acting out of line in front of so many people, and then dragging the Neziri girl like that only made her guilty by association. Alphy could handle the bullying, to a degree. Anyone trying to bad mouth him up front would get their tongues frozen. But he didn't want any of it to spread to Karametra. Not that he thought she couldn't handle it. IT was that she didn't deserve it.To top it all off, the gossip would eventually warp everything into some uncontrollable, shape shifting monster that would twist what happened into an unrecognizable horror, only making the situation worse. And Karametra shouldn't have to go through any of that. No, Alphy didn't WANT her to go through any of it. "What am I even thinking? I just met her a few hours ago!" He shouted into his arms, without even thinking about it.

"Um.. Perhaps this is rude to mention...but you are speaking out loud." Karametra murmured gently as she looked at him. She didn't understand what was happening, or his thoughts that plagued him. She shifted and sat down where she was, making herself comfortable as she watched him, unsure of what to do. "Do you not like crowds much? I can understand that, I'm not really good with people either. Big brother Dreon says I get picked on a lot, but I don't really understand. He said the reason I got yelled at a lot was because my friends used me to get out of trouble. So with that, I'm not really good with people either." She explained, giving a gentle smile. She was trying to sympathize with him, based on what she could grasp.

Alphy let out a large sigh. "I know." He replied dryly. He, in fact, did not know he had said that out loud. His cheeks were a bit red from embarrassment since he said that out loud, but judging from her own follow up, she didn't understand what he had meant at all. He began to reply to her. "It's not even crowds. It's the fact that everyone in the hall was staring at me like the sol-" Alphy cut himself and whipped his head up to look at Kara with a confused look on his face. The end of her sentence finally processed in his mind. "Wait. YOU were yelled at because your... friends used you so that they wouldn't get in trouble?" he asked, exasperated. "What kind of logic is that?"
