You're flying through the air, trying your best to get through the unforgiving blizzard. You're so close, but you can feel ice weighing your wings down, making your flying uneven. Lightning flashes in the distance, and you look up to see something coming toward you. It was the Guardians! However, as the shape gets closer, you feel fear as talons extend, a scream of a screech sounding. Time seems to slow, but before the black figure strikes, the scream becomes pained as someone saves you. You turn your head to watch as something barrels into the creature, plunging a sword into its heart. They spin and screech, but the darker shape slides off the blade and falls into the angry waters below. With wide eyes, you watch as the other owl flies toward you. She is a Great Gray, with silver armor flashing along with the lightning. "Hurry, before your wings completely freeze. Come!" Your wings hurt and feel heavy, but you manage to follow after her. After more traveling, your eyes grow even wider as you behold the place of legend. The Great Tree of Ga'Hoole. The gigantic structure that houses many, many owls, including the Guardians! You're excited, but also have so many questions. What was that thing back in the blizzard? Why did it have to be killed? What was going on. As if she could read your mind, the Great Gray answered. "You've come at a busy time, but I'm sure all will be answered soon."

Summary So, this is a Guardians of Ga'Hoole rp which is a book series about owls. The main plot is that a hagsfiend, a witch that's half owl and half crow, has proclaimed herself a queen and is amassing an army to enslave all of owlkind. It is said that she can only be killed by the Golden Swords of Glaumora dipped in the Pool of Sacred Tears. However, many have thought these swords a myth, but it is the only hope the Guardians have of scattering the army and winning the war. So, the king and queen of the Great Tree are planning to send owls to see if they can find the swords.

Groups (wip)Pure OnesThe Tytonic Union of Pure Ones, better known as the Pure Ones, were a inter-provincial supremacist military organization consisting mainly of owls of the family Tytonidae, more commonly known as Barn Owls. It valued social conditioning, indoctrination, aristocratic government, as well as Nachtmagen. They were known to have a bitter rivalry with the owls of St. Aegolius' Academy for Orphaned Owls, which may have its roots in St. Aggie's advanced knowledge of the nature of basic magnetism.
The Pure Ones had a rigid social hierarchy, which regulated Barn Owls to different levels of purity depending on the whiteness of each species' face. At the top of the chain of command was the High Tyto and his mate, followed by the Barn Owl higher officers; they were always members of the Tyto alba species. They were followed by the Masked Owls (Tyto novaehollandiae), then the Grass Owls (Tyto capensis and Tyto longimembris). At the bottom of the social ladder were the Sooty Owls. Greater Sooties (Tyto tenebricosa) were better off than the Lesser Sooties (Tyto multipunctata). However, the Sooties tended to be given dirty-sounding names like Mud Wings, Ash Beak, Dustytuft, or Smutty, and were also given the most menial and worst of jobs.
The Pure Ones valued rage; they equated it with courage and had ceremonies intended to develop it. These ceremonies often included maiming and/or murder of other animals, often fellow owls. The most infamous of these ceremonies was the one called Tupsi, which called for the murder of a fellow owl close to the Pure One completing the ceremony, often a family member.
Any owl not belonging to the family Tytonidae was considered "impure" and therefore was either only fit to serve the Pure Ones or be eliminated. Owls of the family Strigidae were often victims of Pure Ones' brutality, which may be due to Hoole being a Spotted Owl. They still practice their dark ways, but now under the command of Queen Chrysalis, who's army showed their might and forced them into submission, and they supply her army with slaves and more soldiers. The GuardiansThe Great Tree houses many owls, including the Guardians. These owls are considered some of the most elite around, training extensively to fight for owlkind. They are honourable, brave warriors who fight any and all evil. After many, many moons of tireless learning and the honing of one's skills, worthy owls are granted the privilege to take the most inviolable oath: the Oath of the Guardians;
I am a Guardian of Ga’Hoole. From this night on, I dedicate my life to the protection of owlkind. I shall not swerve in my duty. I shall support my brother and sister Guardians in times of battle as well as in times of peace. I am the eyes in the night, the silence within the wind. I am the talons through the fire, the shield that guards the innocent. I shall seek to wear no crown, nor win any glory. And all these things I do swear upon my honor as a Guardian of Ga’Hoole until my days on this Earth cease to be. This be my vow. This be my life. By Glaux I do swear. The Glauxian Brothers/SistersThe Glauxian Brothers are a group of male owls who spend their time meditating in silence, as well as studying the teachings of Glaux. They are peaceful and shun violence and war. Also, they specialize in healing, poetry, and bookmaking/book repair. Some of these owls are turnfeather or banished owls who have turned to the ways of repentance. The Glauxian Brothers are found at the Northern Kingdoms since the time of Hoole.
There is a similar group called the Glauxian Sisters. They are female owls with the same beliefs as the Glauxian Brothers.
The Glauxian Brothers' Retreat is located on the unnamed island in the center of the Bitter Sea. The Black TalonAt some point, a handful of years ago, a particularly powerful hagsfiend rose up from the ranks. She preached of her greatness and strength, and had strength to support it. She manipulated other owls and even wolves to form an army. And this army flew across the land, spreading darkness and bloodshed. Even the Guardians are having trouble keeping this group, who value violence even more than the Pure Ones, in check. The Black Talon, with a strict matriarchy of hagsfiends, are a growing might that nearly everyone in the land has heard of. Chaws(A chaw is a squadron within the Great Ga'Hoole Tree that specializes in teaching each owl a particular skill. There are nine chaws at the Great Tree.) An owlet who has just arrived at the Great Tree is known as a Junior. After a time of probation in which the skills and abilities of each Junior are tested by the various rybs (teachers) through fundamentals training, there comes a process known as Tapping. Being Tapped: To be "tapped" into a particular chaw means that the ryb of that chaw has selected an owl to join its advanced chaw practices. When an owl is tapped into a chaw, they find an object within their hollow left behind by the ryb whose chaw they were selected to. The objects are: Colliering: A piece of coal and a dried caterpillar. Also means that the owl also has to fly with the weather interpretation chaw.
Weather interpretation: A dried caterpillar.
Blacksmith: A forged iron tree.
Search-and-rescue: A molted feather.
Navigation: Ten nooties placed in the shape of the Golden Talons constellation.
Ga'Hoolology: a milkberry.
Tracking: a pellet.
Healing: An herb.
Hunting and Gathering: A mouse. The Chaws- Colliering: The art and skill of diving into forest fires in order to harvest coals and embers for blacksmiths. Owls have been known to be "fire-blinked," and many have a dreaded fear of crowning, which is when fire leaps from treetop to treetop and may suck up an owl without skillfull manuevering.
As seen in The Journey, colliers always work in groups of at least two, so that one owl on the ground is spotted by a companion. Owls can either work on the ground, or catch flying embers at middle or high points. The Ryb of this Chaw is Tirel, a male Barn Owl.
- Weather Interpretation: The purpose of the weather chaw is to fly into bad weather, such as hurricanes and tropical storms, in order to gather weather information for the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. It is among the most dangerous of the chaws, because the violent winds can tear off an owl's wings and feathers, or cast them into the sea. Despite their abilities in bad weather, the weather chaw never flies into a tornado because of the extreme danger. The Ryb of this Chaw is Tirel, a male Barn Owl.
- Blacksmithing: Forging armour, battle claws, weapons and various other things like pots and pans. Must earn Forge Safety Certificate before they can properly start smithing.
- Search and Rescue: Specializes in search and rescue and combat. Battleclaws are used for basic weaponry. When Owls are tapped for their Chaws, a moulted feather is the symbol for the search and rescue Chaw. The Ryb of the Search and Rescue Chaw is Kane, a male Barn Owl.
- Navigation: Owls in navigation often trace constellations in the sky. Students in the navigation chaw have to remember constellations and relate it to different land locations at different times of the year. An owl is chosen for this chaw if they find ten nooties (fictional acorns) in the shape of a constellation in their bedding.
- Tracking: Can identify the tracks of birds and small land animals, and put together clues that will tell them of an event that has happened in the past. Owls will also work in the tracking chaw for tactical tracking skills.
- Ga'Hoolology: Owls in this chaw learn how to care for the Great Tree and keep it healthy.. The activities they perform include pellet burying, vine trimming, and pruning. It is viewed by most owls as the most boring subject and chaw. For those who are tapped for the Ga'Hoolology chaw, a ryb offers a class about the natural history of the great tree. The milkberry is the symbol for the Ga'Hoolology chaw.
- Healing: These owls are trained to use herbs and medicine to heal wounds and are very important after battles. Can treat illness, wounds and deal with broken bones.
- Hunting and Gathering: This chaw focuses on hunting and gathering, though at a more advanced level, as all owls can hunt of course. They go after bigger prey, and learn all about different animals that might be encountered.
WeaponsTrained owls use a variety of different weapons. Battle claws, short and greatsowrds, Ice Picks, Fireswords and even things as simple as their own talons. For armor, many colors and metals are used, though gold and majority silver are reserved for royalty. SwordsSwords are weapons uesd by owls. They can be made of steel, stone, or ice. The most powerfull are the ice swords made from the Ice Dagger. Ice swords were mentioned frequently in the Legends, but in modern Ga'hoole they have a variety of weapons including daggers and ice splinters, which are used by owls too small to handle swords. Ice WeaponsIce weapons were at first used in the Northern Kingdoms. They were ancient weapons, dating back to the time before King Hoole and continued use even after the reign of Coryn. They didn't come to the Southern Kingdoms until the reign of Boron and Barran. There was no need to keep the weapons, because they melted more easily in the warm southern climate and it was too much trouble to keep them safe. And the invention of Theo's battle claws made them unecessary for the Southern Kingdom owls. They brought back during the Battle of the Burning. The first time owls from the Southern Kingdoms used them was when an owl named Ruby used an ice scimitar to slice off the wings of two kraals, Krakish for pirates.
Ice weapons are made of ice, typically split off the Ice Dagger in the Northern Kingdoms. They often take the form of knives, daggers and swords. Weapons made of ice were the most commonly used owl weapons before the invention of battle claws, and they are still widely used in the Northern Kingdoms.
There are Ice Swords and Scimitars, which are the common Ice weapons that usually take the form of swords, scimitars and daggers. The ice the weapons are made from is usually harvested from the Ice Dagger. The Kielian League has specialy trained ice harvesters who bring ice to Dark Fowl to be carved into blades. The blades are then honed by Kielian snakes, who do so using their fangs. Then, there the more uncommon, Ice Splinters, aka Ice "Picks." Ice splinters are small but deadly shards of ice that are used as projectiles and can pierce flesh. Small owls, such as pygmy and elf owls, are often the best at using these weapons. The splinters are launched at an enemy, often aimed at the eye, and are even sharper than the swords. Fire WeaponsFire weapons are among the most deadly in combat, as proven by the Band's daring rescue of Ezylryb in book three, The Rescue.
Almost any sort of branch can be used, from the smallest twig to the largest limb. Every owl has preferences. For example, Gylfie used two small twigs. Twilight used a well-seasoned oak branch. Soren used a fir branch, the fine needles creating lots of sparks for defence. Digger, with his strong legs, used a double fired branch, similar to a stave.
Fire claws are another type of fire weapons. They do massive damage to the enemy as well as your own talons. The tip of each claw is heated until it is glowing yellow hot. Thus, many Rogue smiths do not like making fire claws or coal claws, a variant that has a small coal embedded in the tip of each claw.
FlecksFlecks are small fragments of magnetic iron which can interfere with the navigational system of birds (which rely on iron to create a mental compass) and also cause various other disturbances in owls' brains and gizzards. They play a major role in the first six books in the series, where they are weaponized by the Owls of St. Aegolius and later the Pure Ones. The are considered more precious than gold because of their abilities. Devil's TriangleA Devil's Triangle consists of three bags of flecks laced at three points. This causes massive disruption in the magnetic particles that a bird uses for navigation, which results in disorientation and confusion. Any bird unlucky enough to come into the magnetic field created within the triangle of the three bags experienced these effects, including owls.
One victim of a triangle, Ezylryb, found that when he entered the Triangle, none of the stars lined up properly and that when he thought he was going east, he was actually going west.
The Pure Ones used these Triangles extensively, finding them to be an effective weapon, though they can be destroyed with fire, the flecks' only weakness.
Later on, the Pure Ones set up extensive emplacements of the Devil's Triangles around their encampment in the St. Aeogolius Canyons, especially around the area called the Great Horns. The triangles were destroyed by Bubo and Soren, who went on an undercover mission before the Battle of the Burning to do so. Locations (WIP)Southern KingdomsGlaumora: Heaven, only accessible to the dead, but it is said to be the most beautiful place in all realms.
Hagsmire: Hell, accesible to only the dead basically, but only hagsfiends can open the gateways to it without dying.
Sea of Hoolemere: Massive sea surrounding the Island of Hoole and the Great Tree. It is said only the true of heart can pass through the constant blizzards and horrible storms.
The Great Tree of Ga'Hoole: A gigantic tree able to house many, many, maaaany owls. Home to regular owls as well as the legendary Guardians. It shifts from patriarchy to matriarchy depending on who's in power, but both a king and queen can rule if they're mates and both living.
St.Aegolius Canyons: wip
St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls: The closest you can get to Hagsmire without dying. A place where grown owls take snatched owlets and turn them into slaves. They're treated like trash and even worse if they fight back or ask questions. Currently controlled by Chrysalis.
The Beaks: A barren land south bordering the Sea of Hoolemere, where there's nothing but rock and dust.
Kingdom of Tyto: A large forest south of the Beaks, where mostly Tyto owls live. A common place where owlets are snatched for St. Aggies.
Silverveil: A massive forest thicket than any in all the lands, full of moss, large trees and all kinds of other plants. The closest you can get to Glaumora with its beauty without dying.
Shadow Forest: Large forest of redwood trees west of Silverveil.
Forest Kingdom of Ambala: This is where most owls, like spotted owls, fish owls, etc. live. Basically, all owls but ones in Tyto, Kuneer or the North live there.
The Barrens: An area similar to The Beaks located on the southwest side of the Sea of Hoolemere and just below the Shadow Forest.
Desert of Kuneer: One of the five Southern Kingdoms. It is located right next to the Forest Kingdom of Tyto. Later, Pure Ones started recruiting in Kuneer and drove all the owls living there away. St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls were snatching owlets as well and even eating them.

CharactersGreat TreeAlgoriaQueen of the Great Tree. A large, adult female Great Gray. She is missing a toe on her left foot. Her armor consists of only silver save for the sapphires on her helmet. The helmet is crafted to look like some sort of reptile, the mouth closed over her face for protectio, with eye holes. She can fight with battleclaws, having some crafted to match her armor, but she learned to fight with a greatsword. She received training in the Search and Rescue, Cooliering, Weather Interpretation and Ga'Hoolology Chaws. She is brave and ambitious, but knows when to pick her battles. She was selected to be a Guardian, so she is disciplined and patient. An intelligent female who has a good heart. Algoria is fiercely loyal and will protect her friends and the Tree to till her last breath. ( Smokey Feather ) ScrandargKing of the Great Tree. A male Great Gray, a Guardian, certified in Blacksmithing and Ga’Hoolology and had training in Search and Rescue. Scrandarg looks like a typical great gray, but has a small scar over his one eye. His armor is made of silver, much like his his mate Algoria’s, but is tainted with a material that makes it nearly black. There are green emeralds encrusted in the armor, one row up his back, a couple on his helmet, and one on his chest. His talons are also a black color, thick and always kept sharp and in good repair. He is an avid and able flier, capable of flying for a good distance. Scrandarg is a tough, more quiet owl than some. He’s not one to talk a lot when in a large crowd, mostly out of habit instead of fear or something of the sort. However he can freely talk with his mate all she wants, as well as when talking to a few owls at a time. He has studied Blacksmithing since he was tapped into the chaw. His studious, quiet nature meant he quickly advanced and got his Smithing certificate younger than many others. This is about the same time as he met Algoria. After becoming quite adept at smithing, Scrandarg joined the Ga’Hoolology and chaw to be closer to Algoria and also trained in basic search and rescue. He still practiced his first love of anything in his spare time. After finishing Ga’Hoolology training and before asking Algoria to be his mate, Scrandarg used his smithing skills to create a beautiful set of armor for the female, the armor she wears now. He truly loves his Tree, his friends, and especially his mate. ( AshLightning ) TirelA male, adult Barn Owl. He isn't a Guardian, though he is the Ryb of the Cooliering Chaw and the Weather Interpretation Chaw. He did training with the Cooliering and Weather Interpretation Chaws, so he is an excellent flier. Tirel is smart and curious, always willing to fly off and check things out unless it's apparent danger, though weather is an exception for this danger. Not a Guardian, but he did receive a little training on how to use Ice Swords from his father. ( Smokey Feather ) RoxyAn adult female Short Eared owl. Apart of the Hunting and Gathering Chaw, though she has taken her Guardian Oath. Roxy is a cunning and quick owl. She is a bit of perfectionist and likes to keep her feathers cleaned. She prides herself in her hunting skills and considers herself to be the best. Roxy doesn't like to admit her mistakes. Roxy is a little stubborn but will stand up for her friends. ( Hawkeyes258 ) Kane An adult male Barn Owl. He has taken his Guardian's Oath, and is the Ryb of the Search and Rescue Chaw. Kane is a tough and fearless owl. He is hard on his students and will not hesitate to kick out slackers. Kane values hard work and determination. He has been through a lot in his life and wants his students to be prepared for the worst. Around his friends, he is sarcastic and easy going. Kane is devoted to the king, queen and to the Great Tree. He gets flustered around female barn owls and will act silly. According to Kane, he has no family. Kane has quite a few scars scattered on his body. ( Hawkeyes258 ) NecA male Northern Pygmy Owl. Took his Guardian's Oath, and is apart of the Tracking Chaw. Being a small guy, Nec tends to cower in fear when he feels it's right. However,if he feels threatened he will go completely psycho and will pretty much peck anything within reach. When he's not cowering or beating things senselessly,he is know to be quite collected and serious. He likes to gaze out at the world around him in his free time and welcomes anyone who wants to join him. He was a part of The Black Talon but was quickly turned down for his cowardliness. ( Fortune Cookie ) The Pure Ones/St. AggiesRogan (wip)Colonel of the Pure Ones. An adult male Barn Owl. He is very proud of his species and looks down on any non-Tyto, taught that they were inferior. Rogan is very strict and no-nonsense in personality, but he does like to show off for the females. Smart in battle, he uses a silver sword that his father used. He isn't just smart on the battlefield though, as he has spent years studying history and nachtmagen, even though only hagsfiends can wield the dark magic. He has been the main ambassador for the Pure Ones to the Black Talon, doing what he can to maintain order and keep the High Tyto from fighting them. ( Smokey Feather ) The Black TalonChrysalis (wip)A very powerful hagsfiend, born from a black egg. Her owl form looks like a Barn Owl, and her bag form looks like large avian creature with black feathers, a long neck, huge wings and jagged beak. Talons are long enough to where she needs to no weapon, and in either form she can use Nachtmagen, or dark magic. She believes it is her right to rule the owls, and has amassed an army to conquer the kingdoms. She seemingly has no feelings for anyone but herself, but no one has tried getting close to her. She wears armor with bits of flecks melted into it, and while she wears this armor it gives her presence an almost nauseating feel to owls, though for hagsfiends they are not affected. ( Smokey Feather ) The Glauxian BrothersLigach (wip)Grand Abbott of the Glauxian Brothers. An adult male Spotted Owl who wears leather leg bracers and a necklace of string and a piece of gold. He is very gentle and quiet, liking to spend his time reading and giving lessons about Glaux. Ligach was found as a hatchling by the monks and taken in. He was raised to shun violence and be kind, as well as learning how to heal. He gained a prowess for healing and writing. The previous Grand Abbott had even taken him under his wing to groom him to become the next leader of the Glauxian Brothers. He took over after his mentor died of old age, and now Ligach has picked up where he left off. ( Smokey Feather ) UnalignedFrono (wip)A smithy of Ice Weapons at Dark Fowl Island. Adult male Snowy Owl. ( Smokey Feather ) [/div]

(Mmm as of now there's no priority. There's king of the Tree, high ranking Pure Ones, spots in Black Talon, and the Grand Abbess of the Glauxian Sisters. Plenty of decent spots.)

(There is a description under the Group section, first part of the third post. Describes the Pure Ones, their beliefs and practices which are much more detailed than the movie. And Tytos are also included there, though to be short about it Tytos are a classification of owl. Barn Owls, Grass owls, etc. Tytos are at the top of Pure One hierarchy due to their supremacist nature.)
