Piper Cordova ~ In the cafe, with Chase (Smokey Feather )
Piper looked up, somewhat surprised but not displeased that someone had decided to talk to her that morning. Usually the wait in these kinds of lines was long and rather boring, since she wasn't really a regular customer and she didn't have any friends or coworkers that were known to tag along with her on mornings like these. She offered the stranger a kind smile, more a reflex than anything, but it was genuine.
"Ah, no, I'm not in any rush," she assured. "You could say I'm just going where my heart wants." She giggled at this, as though the concept was funny to her. And judging by her reaction, it probably was. When he glanced away, she followed his gaze, spotting the man he was speaking about as he left the cafe.
She frowned, brows furrowing in curiosity. "Well, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe he didn't sleep so well last night?" she murmured, tucking a stray red curl behind her ear with a shake of her head. "Fortunately no, I'm just grabbing a quick coffee and maybe some breakfast. I'm not usually much of a coffee person, but I'm in for a long day at work, and I figured the caffeine would give me that boost I need. Either that or keep me from sleeping tonight, who knows?" She didn't drink coffee enough to know exactly what it would do to her body, but she was fairly confident it wouldn't be too life-destroying.

{Interacting with: Zafir Faris LβEΜα΄Κα΄Ι΄Ι’α΄Κ } - Hm. He was studying her too. Not that she cared, as she'd basically given away that she wasn't some hateful human. Their interaction would've started much differently if she had been. They probably wouldn't be interacting at all, but what did she know? She mentally snickered at her own thoughts, thinking back to those men who had approached when she was just a girl. It's said that the eyes are the most sensitive parts in the human body, that both men and women possess anyway. Mykayla could still feel every movement when they pulled and cut out her fearful brown orbs. For fun. To calm herself, she took a deep, though casual breath as she sat herself down at the stranger's request. However, she couldn't stay bitter for long, as the removal of her eyes opened up an entire new world for her. It still hurt like a b*tch though.
She audibly tsked, but not because of anything she had been thinking about, or anything he was doing. The man she had been using to get an actual look at him had decided to leave. No matter. The woman giving her latest acquaintance "the eyes" was fine enough. Mykayla's lips cracked upward in a slight, but brief smile in pure amusement. Once she'd situated herself again though, she listened to what was being said to her. Judging by his... smile, she could tell he was aware of what she had meant, and her head tilted some. "Well, let's just say I'm much more... attuned to people, and people are quite easily sorted the more... prominent they are." She was well aware of the man in front of her likely having the power to kill her without much thought, without the use of powers he might've had. And it was because of that that she didn't really feel scared. Respectful was probably a word describe it perhaps, though she didn't think too much of it. So, she just continued to speak. "I came across someone about a week ago that had... noticeable power on the same level or so with yours, but you've got at least a decade on her age though... so I decided to assume you two came from the same pen so to speak." Not some common species like shifters or were. Maybe something like a division of Zodiacs? She had met a few from different parts of the world, but this wasn't that. His aura was much more powerful.
Hmm, maybe he was looking for others like him? That was her best bet was, considering he seemed to be showing interest in what little she had said. Shrugging, she added "It was only for a little bit though. Met at some gathering in the park just north of here. Some nut was crowing to the skies about how the world is plagued with... supernaturals, putting it nicely, and we simply struck up conversation. Can't say I was eased by the vibes I was getting though." She didn't dare do anything like follow her though, deciding she didn't want to provoke the dark, dense energy she had come in contact with. Keeping her head turned toward him, Mykayla decided to ask another question of her own. "Think you'll say why you want to know?" In all honesty, she didn't really mind either way if he told her or not. It was probably wise not to get involved with people who gave her the vibes like that other woman and the man sitting opposite of her. That didn't mean she could further educate herself on the matter though, whatever it actually was.
Spectating was what she did best after all, as she found herself more comfortable watching from the sidelines as everyone butted heads and fought for the top of the pyramid. That didn't mean she never did anything though... Mykayla was just less likely to actually move to take her part. She was more the type to inform others or direct them to places. Do her part from afar, and leave the up close and personal part to those like her "company" for the time being. She could tell he was more than a pack alpha or a high demon. Hmm... maybe he could be-... no, she doubted it. Well, maybe not that much, but still. The hunters and scientists had to have found a way to keep the... gods locked up. Though she had a hunch she was just trying to convince herself that it was unlikely that she of all people got to meet one. The stories her mother told her of sun falcons and dogs who could control storms. It would be stupid to think such things were fake though, considering demons and Zodiacs existed.
But then which one would he be? No evil vibes, nothing offputting except for the power she supposed. Almost got the slightest feeling of warmth, though could also just be from the body heat generated by the people milling around or drinking their weight in alcohol. She cracked another slight smile, though it was gone as the two of them had to listen to some idiot babble about some recollection or other on how supernaturals were connected to every crime that had been going on. Sighing, she took another drink from the darkened bottle in her hand, grumbling aloud as she turned her head slightly to the side "People are annoying." It was impossible to go anywhere without hearing such nonsense, but there was basically nothing anyone could do about it. So, back to focusing on the one so gracious enough as to spare some of his time for her.
As she talked with him, she got an itch in her eye. Well, eye socket really. She simply reached the fingers of her free hand beneath the side of her shades, scratching the itch without even furrowing her brow like most did when scratching their eyes. And she only scratched at all because she hadn't once set her hand down anywhere in the bar. Who knew what shit ended up where in places like this. She sniffed at the thought, on track to finishing her beer as she kept her attention on her acquaintance still. And, a random thought, she realized she hadn't even asked his name, though she supposed she didn't need to. It was likely they wouldn't see each other after this anyway, once they were finished they'd go off to their own business. Mykayla would probably head home and check on her cat (a gray male Maine Coon named Dusty), and he would probably go to his next destination for his little mission. Well, big mission, assuming her hunch about him was true.
So for now, she just decided to keep things as they were, just the two of them talking about someone they knew squat about. Or that she knew squat about anyway. He likely knew more about who he was looking for than she did, unless he was sniffing around based on a hunch or a rumor. It really wasn't any of her business though, as she kept telling herself. Didn't mean she couldn't tell him what little she knew. It would do him more good than her by far, but who knew. With the news spiking and tensions rising faster than usual, she wondered if she'd find herself closer to the action anyway.

{Interacting with: ππͺπ€π€π} - Listening calmly to her, he smiled lazily in amusement. After she spoke, Chase nodded a little before turning away again. "Ah, not a coffee person, huh? Well, it should get you through work and keep you up through the night, if you get more anyway." They moved some again, and he sighed. "I've got work soon as well. I've just got some time to kill though. Coffee doesn't do too much to keep me going anymore." Well, it never did in the first place. He was drawn from his thoughts when it was finally his turn. Momentarily excusing himself to her, he looked to the guy at the front to place his order. Once he did, he looked behind him as he waited. "Sometimes I don't like days at work though. Half of the conversations are about supernaturals and wanting them all gone. It got old after a while I guess." Well, it was never interesting, but meh. He managed to crack a smile before turning away again.

Piper Cordova ~ In the cafe, with Chase (Smokey Feather )
Piper smiled, nodding her head in agreement. "It's no good to be in a rush. If you try to get things done too quickly, you won't be able to remember anything you did that day! Not to mention, it makes for a pretty bad mood," she replied with a quiet laugh. She inched her way up in line a bit closer, noting that the line was steadily creeping forward but not worrying too much about when she was going to get there.
At the mention of supernaturals, Piper suddenly began to look nervous, reaching one hand to fiddle with a ring she'd slipped onto the middle finger of her other. "Oh? Um, what do you think about all of that?" she asked, trying to keep the nervousness out of her voice, at least. She'd never been one to show off her supernatural powers, too afraid of the potential backlash or harsh words she'd get in return for revealing her identity as a goddess reincarnated. "It doesn't seem like they're doing any harm, to me..."
She fell silent after this, watching Chase's face to see what his reaction was like. It was hard to gauge sometimes how people felt about her kind, and about other breeds of supernaturals, and it wasn't like she had any kind of intuition to be able to tell the difference between real people and supernaturals unless they themselves showed it to her.

{Interacting with: Piper Cordova ππͺπ€π€π } - Chase blinked once as she asked about supernaturals. "What do I think about all of that? Well..." He looked thoughtful for a moment, quiet for a moment, he eventually continued. "It's not my place to say much about it, though I will disagree with you on saying they're not doing any harm, well not all of them." Everyone was aware of the rising tensions. More crimes pointing to supernaturals were showing up, and more hostility toward them in turn. He just wanted to know who was running it all, the planned attacks that happened almost like clockwork. He looked down at her with a hint of curiosity. Why would she ask about such things? Though he supposed there was the chance she wasn't entirely human, judging by the vibes he faintly picked up on. Chase wasn't going to ask her though, because if they admitted they weren't human they likely would get harassed in some way. He then spoke with a bit of a soft tone "It's best we not talk about that though. It'll likely get input from others, and I already hear enough of that babble from work." He could sense feel people listening to them, and he didn't even need to look to tell they wanted to sneer at the mention of supernaturals. And then his coffee came in, Chase paying before taking his cup. He stayed by the new woman though, offering when it was her turn to order "I'll pay."

Piper Cordova ~ In the cafe, with Chase (Smokey Feather )
"Ah, yeah, you're probably right," Piper agreed, offering the man a small smile at his suggestion to change the topic. She relaxed a bit knowing a bit more about where he stood; it was true that crime had gone up recently, though the resons why were still rather mysterious. Well, he at least didn't hate them, so that was enough to settle her mind for the time being, "I'm sure everything will make sense in time."
When her turn came up to order, Piper gave her order to the barista, hesitating just for a moment as she decided to try something new. It had been a while since she'd gotten a coffee, and she was always eager to see what new flavors they could come up with in the weeks she went between cafe breaks. As she reached for her wallet to pay, though, she was interrupted by Chase's offer.
"Y-You don't have to do that!" she stammered, caught off-guard for a moment before she was able to compose herself somewhat. She reached up almost instinctively to tuck her hair behind her ear, seemingly not realizing that it was firmly pulled into a ponytail. "I mean, I can handle it, really." As she spoke, she averted her gaze, feeling suddenly rather shy. It was uncharacteristic of her to be at a loss for words, but she'd become somewhat anti-social since getting her job. She'd fallen into a routine of doing the same work with the same people for months now, and that meant less time dedicated to exploring and meeting new people.

{Interacting with: Piper Cordova ππͺπ€π€π } - His lips curled upward in a smile again. "I never said you couldn't." He looked over at the barista, who was waiting on what they were going to do. Chase of course moved to pay before she could do much else, so all she had to do was take her coffee. He really didn't mind, as he was one to do small things even for people he didn't know. Moving out of the way of the other people looking to order, he found himself shrugging a little as he added "I think it's a fair trade for bothering to talk with me, hm?" Most people would've just exchanged a few words in their busy state before lowkey ignoring him. It was a little hard to make conversation with strangers these days. Decent conversation anyway. His smile stayed with him as he thought it over, though also officially introducing himself. "I'm Chase, by the way. Chase Daniels." It felt nice to just talk with someone at the moment when his mornings were usually rushed or slow before work, with no time to talk in either case. "And who do I have the pleasure of talking to?"

When Chase went in to pay, Piper didn't make any move to stop him this time, simply moving over to the next counter to pick up her drink. "Well, I guess I should say thank you, then, and you're welcome, for keeping up a conversation. It's been a while since I've really met anyone new," she chuckled, collecting her cup as it was passed out to her over the counter.
Turning around to face Chase again, she offered her hand for a handshake. "I'm Piper Cordova. I work at the library down the street. Shelving books, organizing, busywork like that." She offered him a white-toothed smile as she did.

- Chaos listened curiously as Piper both introduced herself and told him where she worked. "Well, looks like I'll have to make a few trips to that library then. I'm a reader anyway." His tone was almost playful as he talked with her. "And you can help me through the day by keeping me sane, if you think you'll ever find the time. I work at the restaurant five blocks down. Vernon's." It was a popular place, lots of people and even more chatter. He actually liked the lively setting, though not the times when people talked about supernaturals. "After all, it wouldn't make the most sense not to meet up again, especially after exchanging names." He was of course joking that last part, though he was friendly enough to actually want to meet up again. That was how friends were made after all, and he liked meeting new people. His blue gaze maintained that look of curiosity as he waited to see how she would respond. The worst she could do was say no after all.

Piper Cordova ~ In the cafe, with Chase (Smokey Feather )
Piper raised an eyebrow at Chase's suggestion that he come by the library more often, acting almost coy at the suggestion. "Hmm, well, I wouldn't complain if you decided to keep me company while I'm working, As you can probably imagine, working at a library can be quite dull," she replied with an easy smile, taking a sip from her steaming drink.
"Vernon's?" she echoed, wracking her brain to place where she might or might not know the restaurant's name. Unfortunately, nothing came up. "It doesn't sound familiar, but I'm always interested in trying new things. I'll have to add it to my list of places to visit when I'm not too busy." She made a mental note to look the place up when she had a chance to see if the food was anything she'd enjoy, though she wasn't too picky. As she spoke with Chase, she started to wander over to one of the cafe's tables, setting her drink down momentarily.
"Is it hard to work at a restaurant?" she asked, curious about how busy or difficult the job could get. Her own job was fairly laid-back, as she didn't have a process in her job as much as a list of things that needed to constantly be kept up. It was also slow-paced and quiet, and there was really no pressure to keep up with anyone. Not to mention, it made it painfully easy to blend in when her job was so mundane. No one ever asked her invasive questions beyond the typical small talk and any encounters she had with the patrons there were usually people asking where they could find a certain book or genre.
