Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ Magic gave a half-smile, glad to find someone who shared his opinion on art. To her question, he shook his head. "Not always, but -" He didn't finish. He was too surprised to stop her from taking the camera, and it showed in his lack of smile for the picture. He grimaced. "Uh, yeah, I'm not... used to being on this side of a camera." He used to be, when his mother was still alive, but it had been years now since someone had taken his picture.

(This may be full of typos or short cos Iβm on mobile)
Perri was amused, smiling to herself at how quickly Reuben sat down next to her. This was entertaining.
At his joke about her name, she raised an eyebrow and commented βSure, if you like. Maybe Iβm a spy like him too, youβll never know.β
And then there was the wink, too. Okay, he was definitely pretty forward, much more forward than Perri usually was with people. Still, she was kind of letting this happen because it wasnβt like he wasnβt attractive. She was not someone to whom commitment or romance or anything came easily, but there wasnβt really any harm in letting a little innocent flirting happen. It wasnβt like she planned on developing proper feelings for him.
βWell, Reuben, Reuben Reynolds, itβs nice to meet you,β Perri replied with a light chuckle βI knew you were into sports, you seem the type. Youβre lucky Iβm not ah Auburn kinda girl. Iβm at UT Austin, so I support the Longhorns.β
She looked over at him, after a moment, kind of trying to figure him out.
βSo, whatβs your major?β Perri asked, hoping it would help her figure him out a little.

Miller tilted her head as he grimaced, though she wasn't surprised. Most photographers were rarely captured on camera, especially by their own camera. Handing the camera back to him, she glanced back down at the polaroid, which was still not fully developed. But when she could finally start making out the faint photo, she couldn't help but giggle. She had caught Magic with his mouth agape, looking into the camera like he had seen a ghost or something. "That's cute," she said with a wink, before handing the photo to him. "You should let other people take pictures of you on this trip. You deserve to have some of yourself too."

"A spy?" Reuben repeated. "I guess I'll keep my eye on you then," he added with a sly smile, before sighing with relief when she said she wasn't an Auburn fan. "Thank the lord. I was going to have to move seats if you told me you were an Auburn girl," the quarterback teased. "UT, huh? Not bad, not bad. I'm a business manager major. I'm planning on taking over my dad's company when I graduate. What about you? I bet you do something smart like Psycology, yeah?" He asked, glancing at her from head to toe. She definitely was giving off more studious vibes now that he was getting to know her better.

Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ Magic gingerly took his camera back and put it back in its case, then returned that to his pack. He glanced up in surprise at her giggle, and sat up to accept the polaroid. He made a face, both at the image and her words. He spoke without thinking. "No I don't." His eyes widened; he hadn't meant to say that out loud. He tried to cover it up by adding, "No, I don't like letting others use my camera, I mean. Lost my train of thought there." Magic wasn't fond of lying, nor was he very good at it, but he would rather be called a liar than let Miller - whom he'd just met - know that he wasn't very fond of himself.

βTaking over your Dadβs company, huh?β Perri responded βNo pressure, then. Sounds like youβre going to have some big shoes to fill. I bet youβll do great.β
When he asked what she did, she let out a little chuckle about his comment about her doing something smart. She found him interesting; he was flirting and winking, but he was also giving shy smiles. She was still trying to figure him out, but he seemed cool. She didnβt normally like talking about herself or building relationships or whatever but this was going okay is far. He seemed nice, she didnβt feel like she had to be wary of him yet.
βOh, Iβm studying scriptwriting for silent films,β she joked before continuing, more seriously, βNo, my major is actually law. So I guess you could say itβs something smart. And the spy stuff is my minor, obviously.β
She added a conspiratorial wink at the end there. She was finding Reuben far easier to talk to than sheβd assumed he would be.

Miller frowned. Magic's first response hadn't gone over her head, but she wasn't going to delve deeper into it. If he didn't think he deserved something like that, then the reassurance of a girl he had only just met wasn't going to change that. So she pretended like she didn't hear it, and responded to his addition. "That's understandable. I'm always protective over my paintbrushes. They have to be kept and used in a very particular way in order to maintain their quality. A lot of people don't get that." She said, adding a small smile as she changed the subject. "So, have you ever been on a trip like this before?" Miller asked, referring both to the tropical destination, and the long plane ride.

Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ Magic smiled slightly, her words bringing back bittersweet memories. "I know. My mom was a painter, as well as a photographer. I inherited the photography skill; not so much the painting. To her question, he shook his head. "I've never left Ontario before now. Getting from there to here was my first time on a plane. It... Well, it was a bit boring. I'd been expecting my first plane ride to be more exciting." And it had been - at first. Once the plane had reached cruising altitude and had continued that way for a while, it had quickly lost its appeal.

Reuben shrugged. In all honesty, he didn't think it would be too hard to take over his dad's company. He had basically been groomed for it his whole life. "Eh, it's not gonna be that bad. But thanks. I know I will," he said with a confident smile. When she said she was studying scriptwriting for silent films, Reuben nodded, impressed--and not catching the joke. "That's cool, that's cool. Are those, like, the black and white ones?" He asked, before realizing she had been kidding. "Oh. Oh, you're a law major? So I guess I should hire you when I'm the CEO of a big corporation, then," he said with a smile, covering up his blunder quickly, and widening his smile when she added her own joke and wink at the end. "I like you, Perri the platypus spy. You've got spunk," he complimented.

"You're mom was a painter?" Miller asked, her face lit up with excitement once again. "That's so cool! What medium did she use?" she asked, before letting her face fall when she heard his plane experience. Looking away, she played with her necklace again, "Trust me. You don't want your plane experiences to be exciting. Because exciting often means dangerous, and that is not something you want to experience." She said, remembering how devastated she had been when she had gotten the news of her father's plane crash. How desperately she wanted to believe that one day he would be coming back, even though she knew there was no way anyone would have survived.

Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ "She used oil paints mostly," Magic responded, "but she was good enough to make amazing art with just about any kind of paint." He was distracted from thoughts of his mother by Miller's sudden change in demeanor. He opened his mouth to question it, then shut it again as the reason became obvious. He easily recognized the look of loss she clearly felt, remembering whoever it was. He saw it in the mirror every day. He knew he could apologize for her loss, but he knew from experience it really didn't help or make you feel better, so he remained quiet.

Miller let a few more moments of silence pass between them, before tuning to apologize. βSorry. I, uh, lost my dad to a plane crash when I was a kid. This will actually be the first time Iβve been on a plane since...so Iβm actually a little nervous,β she explained, keeping her eyes to the ground until the very end. βSorry if that was a lot to unload on someone I just met...itβs just. I donβt m ow. You seem like youβd get it, you know?β She said, giving him a sad smile.

Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ Magic listened in silence. Being proven right in matter like this was never fun. He stayed quiet for another moment after she finished talking, then said, "You don't have to apologize, for expressing yourself, or for telling me. And... I do get it. I lost my mom when I was young. It never really gets any easier, does it?" It had been years since his mother's death, but even telling Miller that much made him feel as if it only happened yesterday.

Shaking her head, Miller agreed. "No. No, it doesn't. But, we persevere," she said, letting out a breath before looking around. "I wonder where everyone else is. The longer we are siting here, it seems the more nervous I'm getting," she said with an anxious smile, trying to hide how actually scared of this plane ride she would be. Back home, when she had been convincing her mom to let her go, this had seemed like a breeze. But now, she was starting to run all the possible things that could go wrong in her head. And that list was quite long

Character Form: Cecily Abernathy // 22 // Female // Major in Biomedical Sciences, Minor in Classical Latin // Exeter, England (though she has lived in College Station, Texas for her schooling years) // Cecily can be quite the character, though one may not know on first glance. Typically quiet, she prefers to observe others before she interjects herself into a foreign situation. She is by no means antisocial or introverted, she simply wants to know what she is getting into so to not make a fool of herself. Thoughtful and soft spoken, she can usually be seen having a mild conversation with a friend or reading a book on the sidelines. However her friends know better than to leave her out of the partying scene. Once comfortable, Cecily can become loud and rambunctious, all smiles and hugs. She tends to look at others a little harder and be a harsh critic to those she deems unfit. She doesnβt have much patience for those who fail to try their best. Slacking is one of her biggest pet peeves. However, she fails to hold grudges, finding them useless and preventative to moving forward. Cecily has had problems with expecting too much from people and overworking herself. She constantly strives to be better, to improve, to evolve. She thrives under pressure, but has known to sacrifice her own health for her goals. However, she hopes the vacation will help clear her mind. One day she hopes to become a heart surgeon and has recently become accepted into Harvardβs Med program.// A majority of the time, people mistake Cecily for a freshman in college because she doesnβt necessarily look her age. Slightly babied face, her small frame, large smile and more petite nose tend to betray her. She chooses to combat this with long reddish blonde hair and glasses. Usually she will leave it down to tumble down her back in a mess of waves. Though she could get away with contacts, she likes her wide-framed glasses and the way they offset the pale green of her eyes. When she smiles, a dimple appears on the right side of her face. // Shoot for the Stars

Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ Magic nodded, gaze distant. "Yeah," he agreed quietly. "We do." He forced himself to brush off the memories, and the feelings they brought with them, and echoed her look around. "I don't know." He returned his gaze to hers. "But we can't have that. We need a distraction. Here." He held out the Nikon nestled in his lap. "If you want pictures of me while on this vacation, you're going to need to know how to take good ones." The very idea made him nervous as hell, but it was better than sitting here and doing nothing while she worried about possible scenarios that were unlikely to happen.

(Aww she so cute!! I'll add her!)
When Magic said he had an idea for a distraction, Miller sighed in relief. "Thank goodness," She said, hesitating though when he held out his camera. "Are you sure?" She knew how valuable that camera probably was to him, and he didn't seem quite sure himself. But, honestly, she needed the distraction, so she gingerly accepted the camera and smiled at him. "Alright. Show me how." The idea of learning how to take proper photos excited her, especially if it meant that her newfound friend would see how deserving he was to be on the other side of the camera.

Magic Rising ~ * ~ * ~ Magic took a deep breath to steady his nerves and commit himself to this idea. Then he leaned closer and started pointing out all the cameras features and buttons, and how they each worked. As he spoke, his anxiety melted away, replaced by a calm confidence as he spoke about his passion. He doubted she understood everything he talked about, but he elaborated and explained as best he could when necessary.
Sorry there isn't more detail; I don't actually know much about cameras or photography. xD

(hahahahahahah the story of most of the things I RP about yet actually have 0% experience with XD)
Miller listened quietly, trying her best to commit each button and feature to memory as Magic walked her through each aspect of the camera. There were a few moments where she glanced up to simply admire his sudden confidence. Once he had finished, she thought for a moment, running through everything he had just told her in her mind, and then began. "Alright so in this lighting, I would probably want to set it to this?" She asked, pressing a few buttons to adjust the settings before showing him to get his approval. She was pretty sure she had remembered what he had said, but given that she had never worked seriously with a camera before, she wanted to make sure she did it right.

He hadnβt caught her joke at first, which was somewhat amusing to her, but she didnβt judge him for it, it was one of her more random jokes. He quickly covered up his blunder when he realised the joke, and then gave her a little compliment. This guy really seemed to want to impress her.
βI guess you should,β she responded with a smile at his comment about hiring her βand I guess you should take me on rides on the yacht youβre gonna be able to buy when your company makes loads of money.β
Perri didnβt know what it was like to have a lot of money, sheβd never had much considering sheβd grown up with a single mother who could barely support the family with the wages she was getting, and then even when her mother got that terrible boyfriend of hers he hadnβt exactly been bringing a lot of money in
βAnd I like you, Reuben, Reuben Reynolds,β Perri responded with her own smile βyouβre fun and confident - I like that.β
