(Sorry a lots happened this month and I’ve kind of been really weighed down)
Felamore’s ears twitched again. “We?” Her gaze went to David, who turned his head away to ignore the implication. She let out a small snort in amusement and she looked back at Sam. “A clever choice. Most beasts can be pacified with gifts if you know what to offer.” She did notice he wasn’t really looking at her and the large creature leaned forward and tapped his cheek with the edge of her muzzle. “Eyes up, little one. You’re not speaking the grass.” There was some humor in her voice, but there was a genuine tone of advice. If he was going to be in the woods frequently, she’d have to be vigilant and if anything crossed her border she needed to know he could handle himself.

(It's okay! I've had my share of that too, so I don't blame you for focusing on all of that. I do hope things are getting better/have gotten better for you!)
Sam nodded slightly as Felamore confirmed gifts were a good choice. He still didn't know if she would like the food he brought, but the effort would count for something wouldn't it? He had just started to pull his backpack to his lap when he felt the nudge on his cheek. He glanced up at her briefly, but he had taught himself that if he didn't look people in the eye, they wouldn't notice his as much. So it was hard to try and meet her gaze, even for a short amount of time. Instead, he found other points of her face to focus on: her horns, the fur on her cheek, her nose, anything that proved he was looking at her without having to meet her eyes. Then dropped his gaze back to his backpack as he took out the containers of sandwich meat he had bought before coming to the woods. There were only four since it was all he could fit in his bag. It was a small gift to offer, but it was all he could think of and afford. Not that it seemed to matter much now. The whole point of the food was to gain her acceptance, and he already had that. This was just extra then. "I know you probably eat much more than this," he said, glancing up at David's mother to make some kind of effort, "but I wasn't entirely sure if you would like this or not. So I didn't get a whole lot."
Opening the packages, he laid them out for Felamore to inspect. If she didn't eat them, then he had lunch for himself for the next few weeks. While she did that, he fished out a couple of Hostess cupcakes as well. These were more or less for him more on the squished side. He hadn't thought to give them to these creatures, mainly because he wasn't sure if they were supposed to have them. Dogs weren't, so he had figured it wouldn't be good for them either. He took them out more for the sake of sparing them from being crushed by his books as they had been.

Felamore watched Sam as he tried to meet her gaze. Just his attempts seemed to be enough for her. She didn’t repeat herself or try to scold him for not actually making eye contact, she just watched him. The old beast found that just watching the boy seemed to lead to a lot of insights on her part. Another brief glance at the bruises on his face before she relaxed again and watched him unpack his bag.
It only took a second for her to recognize the scent of meat when the containers were opened and her ears perked forward. “Do not fuss over the amount, you’ve brought more than enough.” She assures him.
David notes Felamore’s response to the food and his tail wagged slightly. He was glad she’d taken well enough to Sam, even if it hadn’t been because he’d brought them something to eat.

David has started sniffing at the offering as soon as it was placed in front of him, his tail only moving harder back and forth at the scent. He started chowing down as soon as Sam’s hands were clear of his teeth, clearing the package in only a few seconds. Felamore did similarly, though she was slower and left the third container unguarded. Whether it was intentional or not, David still took advantage and catch the treat with one paw, sliding it to himself.
Judging by his mother’s eyes following the movement, she noticed but she didn’t complain. She had thought Sam’s division of the morsels to be humorous, but it seemed rude to correct him while he was still upset. As much as she liked the taste of the food Sam had brought them, she still would have let her pup take most of not all of the containers. She was only halfway through the second container when David finished and began licking at his jaws.
“It was tasty! What was it?” He asked Sam.

David’s head tilted to one side as Sam explained. “Bread?” He questioned quietly. He’d had no exposure to humans, so their cooking was lost on the pup. Felamore didn’t seem phased by the statement, though. David didn’t seem to dwell on this long though before he nudged his two containers into a pile. He wasn’t sure what to do with them since he couldn’t eat them. No food he’d ever seen before left inedible parts.
“Mind the garbage does not stay in the forest.” Felamore reminded Sam as she added her own containers to the pile.

(Sorry they keep changing my schedule and I’m just slowly dying at work)
Felamore gave a slight nod as Sam agreed about the garbage, watching the boy arrange his things in his bag. She recognized the odd little sweets from his first visit when he’d dropped them, but she elected to not ask for now. Her nose did twitch a bit at the memory of the snack’s taste. If she saw them again, she might ask about them.
Instead, she took to licking at her paw and cleaning the last traces of the meat away from her muzzle. David has been faster to groom, though a little less thorough, and he returned to laying with his body curled around the human boy. He watched Sam as well, curious about what else could be in his bag. His tail began to wag a bit at the idea of what odd fun things Sam could be carrying around.

(Don't worry about it. The same keeps happening for me, so I understand how frustrating/draining it is.)
Sam unwrapped the snack, though he really didn't have an appetite. He just needed to get the snacks out of his bag. He kept accumulating them due to forgetting about them, especially on the days he didn't eat lunch. Something else would always get him distracted, and then he would forget about the food until the next day. He took a bite, not really enjoying the taste of the cake like he normally would. Nothing was really savored when he was in this kind of mood. After the second bite, he became aware of David watching him. "I'm sorry. I ruined whatever we were going to do today, didn't I?" he muttered. They had talked about going back to the rock pile they had visited yesterday, and there was no telling what else the cub had thought of to do in addition to it.
