Something in the Woods... Unwanted by their community and treated as an outcast, they began wandering further and further from the small town every day in attempt to stall going home. Finally, they wander a little too far out into the territory of a strange beast. The creatures seems to listen to their plight but their sense of trust and security is constantly questioned by an instinctive fear. After one especially terrible day at home, they retreat out to the woods at night hoping the creature might offer comfort. Instead, the beast offers a frightening solution. ~ Main Characters~Sam Huff At 19 years of age, Sam is on the shorter side. At full height, he stands only 5’9”. Normally, though, he appears to be a few inches shorter due to his habit of hunching over. This is his attempts to stay hidden to the rest of the world, to avoid their attentions. It’s difficult, though. Under the mop of messy black hair he desperately needs to cut and framed by dark lashes, two different colored eyes sit. The left is a bright blue, the right a dull brown. If nothing else in his appearance or history draws attention, his eyes always do. His skin is sort of two toned. The parts that are constantly exposed, which would be his face, arms, and hands, are tanned to a medium tone. The parts that never see the light of day are still a pale form of that same tone. Sam is generally a quiet boy. One wouldn’t even know he had the ability to speak unless they pressed him to do so. He’s the kind of person who lives by the “play dead” rule. If he doesn’t respond, then people will leave him alone. At least, that’s what he hopes will happen. Most of the time, it doesn’t work out like that. Yet, despite the silent nature of the boy, he can, and does, have the ability to harbor anger something fierce. He doesn’t often act on it, but that doesn’t mean it won’t seethe inside him for days at a time. He also isn't the fastest learner. Due to his mother drinking during her pregnancy, Sam has a bit of a learning disability. He isn't stupid, but learning just doesn't come naturally for him. Especially reading and writing. Surprisingly, math is one of his strongest subjects, but anything that revolves around writing or reading comprehension, he has to put forth more effort to focus. Thus resulting in the reason for failing several grades. Although he is 19, he is still having to repeat the 11th grade. For the majority of Sam’s life, he’s been the pushed to the wayside. Born to a mother who, let’s just say, wasn’t the most modest woman around, the boy lived his life in the shadow of her actions. It would have been one thing if his mother tried to achieve a better life for them, but she did not intend to do so. Nor did it seem that the woman cared keeping her life out of public view. For that, the boy lived in her shadow until the day she died. After she passed when he was ten, the boy was shipped off to live with the closest family member, his aunt and step-uncle. Neither of them wanted to care for another child since they had five of their own, but they took him in anyway. Sam was taken care of, but never truly felt like he was welcomed in the house hold. Nor was he very good at integrating himself into school life. Due to him having to repeat the same grades, it hasn't done well to improve any opinions about himself. Many folks pity him while others simply laugh. Yet something keeps him from dropping out of school, so he keeps going in hopes of accomplishing more than his mother had. (*Nightwhisper )
Felamore Felamore stands about 8-foot at the shoulder with a long canine form. She's covered in heavry orange fur over most of her body that seems to always have the thickness of a winter coat. The fur on her underbelly and throat is a cream-white color, and her six limbs are a darker brown color. For the most part, she looks like a larger, longer maned wolf with curling grey horns and intense green eyes with sideways pupils. She's considered to be a beast of frightening power, armed not only with fangs and claws but also the unnatural strength of a much larger beast. She has some arcane ability, though she lacks the aptitude to do much more than simple spells. Felamore has spent untold ages concealed within the woods, monitoring the movement of other, smaller beasts through the forest. Few creatures can remember when she came to the forest, or why she chose to stay. (ValkoinenLeuka )

Well the best part is this plot works for any time-period, which makes the concept of a medieval-era beast completely unfamiliar with what the heck a citrus fruit is equally funny to a modern beast that's never seen a kinder egg. I'll let you pick since you're running the human side of things)

(I was thinking the same thing. x3 Sorry if it's not great. I have to get into the feel of this new character.)
The walk from the city seemed to get longer each and every day. While the distance stayed the same, to Sam, it felt as if even the woods were starting to reject his presence. That wasn't the case, of course. At least, he hoped it wasn't. Not when the woods were the only place he could truly be at peace.
Since his fifteenth year of age, Sam had been making the journey from his small home town to the woods that lie to the south. Not many people entered the woods mainly due to the steep, rocky nature of the landscape. The town was surrounded by mountains. To the north, everything leveled out, creating a more preferable spot for campers and hikers. However, that also meant it was more popular and crowded. It was also a farther walk for the boy. No, he much more preferred the risky trek up the side of the mountain where he knew no one would be foolish enough to spend their time. Any experience hiker wouldn't see it as a challenge, but most people of the town weren't experienced hikers. Or maybe they just didn't care to see this portion of the forest. Perhaps they believed that if one had seen one part, then they have seen the entire forest. Whatever the reason, he was just thankful that no one else cared enough to explore his safe haven.
Maybe the beast could be a reason too. The thought flashed quickly through his mind as he followed his worn trail through the underbrush, making steady progress up the steady incline. Yesterday had been a strange day for him. Feeling more adventurous than usual, Sam had wondered into a part of the woods he hadn't been to before. He wasn't sure how long he had been there, crying to himself as was his habit, when he caught sight of a strange creature. Part of him was sure he had just dreamed the entire thing. All he could remember seeing were a pair of piercing green eyes and orange fur. Whatever had been watching him hadn't approached him enough for him to get a good look at, but he could tell that whatever it was was huge. So it only made sense for him to go back and confirm whether it was real or not, right?

(It's all good, I ended up having to type mine on mobile so there may be typos)
The forested mountainside had gone undisturbed by humans for decades. Before yesterday, the last human to stray into her territory had been back during the era of what the humans called the Great War. A younger human had strayed too far and lost their way among the trees and ledges. They'd slipped on the rocks and they'd lied motionless for several hours before Felamore moved them to the edge of her domain. Soon enough, more humans with lights and dogs had shown up to bring them home. That should have been the last time she had to deal with humans, in her opinion.
As the years went on, she saw fewer and fewer humans in the woods as they chose to remain closer to the safety of their homes. That was good. They had no business in her forest.
She had hoped yesterday was merely an anomaly. She'd caught the human's scent before she'd heard the quietly whines and sniffs he's been making like a weakened animal. She'd thought him lost at first, but given time, he'd found his way out with ease enough that she knew he was not lost. Her only concern was the long stare he'd made in her direction. He hadn't run away shrieking, so Felamore assumed she'd gone unseen. It was more likely the human still bore an instinct that made him anxious a predator had approached.
Now, Felamore was sitting outside the narrow entrance to her den in the cliffside. She had an excellent view of the forest below clear to the rooftops of the human town. It had been quiet today, and her pup had curled in their den to nap away the rest of the daylight. She'd been about to join him when she felt it again.
Something had crossed into her territory.
This called for her attention. She stood, and it was though a switch had been flipped. Her massive frame poised carefully on her toes and she began moving down the steep mountainside under the cover of the trees without so much of a leaf or pebble crunching below her feet.

(It's all good. ^^ )
That was not the case for Sam. There wasn't really a need for stealth on his part. No one joined him, and no one would going to be following him, so why bother? His aunt and step-uncle didn't care where he disappeared to until sundown everyday. In fact, he had a feeling they were kind of glad he wasn't hanging around. He always tried to be helpful, but he always seemed to be under someone else's foot when he was home. If he wasn't helping with chores, he was accused by his cousins of being lazy. If he was trying to get some things organized, he was accused of messing stuff up. It was a lose-lose battle. One he was more than happy to let his kin struggle with.
Each footstep echoed through the forest. Birds sang overhead, and cicadas chirped unseen in the distance. They would soon be disappearing with the weather turning colder, so he made a note to enjoy their noise while he could. Others might think the insects annoying, but to him, any noise was better than none at all. They help to distract him, to give him something else to focus on. There were even times when the insects had coaxed him into a much needed sleep. Finally, he reached the resting point of yesterday's visit.
Most campers would choose a flat, level spot to rest. That was the safest ground. But Sam never really kept those rules in mind. He was drawn to the places that most people would deem an ill-fit for any kind of security. For instance, the place he approached now was right beside a dead tree that should have fallen a long time ago. The only thing keeping it upright was it's neighbor who was supporting the dead weight in its branches. At the base of the dead tree was the perfect little, shallow, cubby-hole for the boy to curl up and literally hide from the rest of the world. Crouching down, the young man made a quick inspection to make sure nothing had claimed the spot for a home before letting his backpack fall off his shoulders. Tossing it in, he followed it inside.

As she made her way toward where she'd sensed the trespasser had come from, though she didn't even need to reach the exact location before she caught the strong out-of-place reek of human. It wasn't something that was hard to detect in the forest. Too often humans carried the scents of smoke and chemicals, though it was stronger on some than on others. Either way, when humans first entered the forest, they weren't hard to detect. A week or two in the woods and their scent sometimes returned to its natural state. Sometimes.
Felamore picked up the trail quickly. It was too similar to the scent from yesterday, and it followed a near-identical path. It would make sense that it would be the same human who'd returned to the forest, though she wasn't too pleased with this. It was one thing for a human to stray here only once, but to return the very next day meant someone thought they had business in her territory. She would have to 'discourage' this.
If the last incident had taught her anything, it was that humans tended to follow other humans. Considering the state of the boy she'd seen yesterday, it would only be a matter of time before he too slid from a ledge and would have to be taken from the forest by others of his kind. She never cared to have humans wandering around here. It only left risk for her being discovered and chased from her spot in the woods, when she'd been here long enough to see the first wood cabins built.
Felamore moved with purpose after the human's trail until she got to where she could hear the human moving slightly. He was out of sight, but his scent was clearly stronger. He was nearby. She crouched a little lower to keep herself out of sight as she listened to pinpoint exactly where he was. It didn't take long at all for her to pinpoint his location at the base of a rotten old tree. Fair enough. She might be able to just scare him out with a few loud noises and a false chase. Maybe then he'd stay out of her territory.

(It looks fine to me :3)
Felamore began approaching the rotten tree, her ears rotated forward for any subtle hint the human might be about to move elsewhere. She waited until she was only a few feet behind the base of the tree on the opposite side of the entrance. She stood a bit taller, careful to keep herself quiet as she braced herself. She lowered her head and tensed another moment before she charged, forsaking stealth.
Upward of eight hundred pounds of beast collided with the soft rotting wood, sending splinters everywhere. The rest of her body hit the tree, though the real damage was to where her horns struck.
As she pulled her horns out of the hole she'd made in the tree, she released a low aggressive snarl from deep in her throat. That should get the boy moving.

Sam had just about to reach for his backpack when the serenity of the place broke, quiet literally. A massive cracking filled the air, followed by shaking in the tree he was currently sitting under. Bits of wood soared into the air and fell onto him. Then a echoing growl filled the air, causing goosebumps to raise on his skin. Without thinking, the boy grabbed his pack and scrambled out of the hole. He didn't go far, however. Only a safe distance away so he wouldn't be hit if the tree was falling. Eye wide and heart racing with both fear and adrenaline, he stared at the tree, searching for the source of this... thing.
Okay, so it definitely wasn't a mountain lion. That much he was certain. A bear? What else had a growl that fierce? If it was a bear, he was in trouble. Sam silently cursed himself as he stood there, frozen. He knew he should run, but his curiosity at least wanted to know what animal he had stumbled upon. Sure, he could be mauled to death, but for him that wasn't really a good motivation to get out of there. So he stayed there, clutching his pack to him and ready to run as soon as he spotted the danger.

Felamore shook the loose splitters from her fur before she stepped around the tree. She scowled seeing the human hadn't continued to flee. His body language told her he didn't intend to fight, so why would he stop in his retreat? That was no way to escape, that was how prey got caught?
No matter, she could get him running again.
As she cleared the tree, she bared her teeth and opened her jaw, releasing a sound that was something between a human screech and a mountain lion's yowl. She braced as though to charge again.

Okay, not a bear either. As the creature stepped around the tree, Sam couldn't even begin to describe what was going on in his brain. Before him stood a huge creature, foxish in design, but thirty times the size. Not to mention the horns and extra pair of limbs. Had it not been heading straight towards him and snarling at him, he would have been in complete awe of the creature. At the moment, he was really too shocked to move. That is, until it screeched.
The noise was unearthly, chilling his blood. It was the trigger that kicked his brain back to rational thinking. The boy quickly backed up several steps, hoping that the creature would see him as non-threatening and wouldn't try and attack him. He didn't turn around because wasn't that the number one thing you shouldn't do? That only encouraged things to chase you? However, he should have watching where he was going. His heel struck a root, catching him off guard. The next thing he knew, his back hit the ground. Sam grunted in pain as the air was knocked out of him, his bag falling loose from his hand. This day was just getting better by the minute.

Felamore had begun her second charge as the human backed away. She didn't intend to hurt him- that would only validate any claims he mad in the town. If she didn't touch him, there would be no evidence that's she'd actually been seen and that was how she needed it to be. Nothing more than wild claims from a child who had been alone in the woods.
However as she advanced, the human didn't run. He was still backing away in a retreat, but just as suddenly as she'd attacked, he was no longer standing. He was flat on the ground and she was only a few feet from him still rushing forward.
She dug her claws into the soil to slow herself, though her momentum still carried her forward. When she finally came to a stop, she was standing with her front set of paws hooked into the dirt at the human's sides. She flattened her ears back and snarled again, snapping her jaw at the air above his head. This needed to get him moving, she wasn't sure what else she could do to frighten him away without actually biting him.

Lifting his head to look around, Sam noticed the beast running straight for him. He couldn't get up and run fast enough. It would be on top of him before he even found his footing. So, the boy did was he does best: curl up and hope the pain wouldn't last long. He closed his eyes and waited. Dirt and leaves were airborne fell on his head, and it was all obvious that the beast was above him. He heard it's jaws snap shut, yet there was no pain on his part. Cautiously, he opened one eye to see what was going on. The first thing he noticed were the very sharp teeth that were within reaching distance. Lovely.
"Holy -" Sam muttered under his breath. This couldn't be happening. This was some crazy dream, it had to be. The fangs in front of him told a different story, but believing it wasn't real was the only thing that was keeping him from panicking. How was he to get out of this one? If he moved, would the creature think he was going to attack? Or would it try playing with him like a cat with a mouse, toying with it before it actually killed it. Sam swallowed hard.
"I-I'm sorry," he spoke a little louder, trying to be as calm as he could muster. The creature wouldn't understand him, but maybe his tone of voice would be something it could comprehend. "I-I didn't know I was bothering you. I'm not looking to h-hurt you." As if he could. He doubted he would have the ability to harm this beast even if had wanted to. It was huge.
