Jaxon had hung back as everyone had rushed to go look at the list. He was unsure about this whole partner thing. He had planned on simply sticking to himself during the games, not getting close to anyone due to the risk of potentially having to kill them. But it appeared he'd be responsible for another person in the arena. Hearing someone say his name, he held up a hand. "Over here," he said simply to the girl who had turned around to scan the room after calling out his name. Watching her walk over, he sized her up. She was pretty to look at, but he worried that she might lack the strength or fighting skills that would be beneficial in the arena. Giving her a tight lipped nod in greeting, he kept his arms folded against his chest. "You can call me Jax." He said simply, preferring the nickname to Jaxon.

Finn was ready.
He’d trained his entire life for this moment. Sure, he’d done plenty of fishing and swimming and working at the docks, but training for the Games had also been a large part of his life. It was for everyone in his district.
There was a reason he hung out in the front with his arms crossed. He was ready for this and he wasn’t about to let anyone tell him that he couldn’t win this.
Until he heard that they’d been assigned partners. He stood - dumbfounded - until a girl approached him and he narrowed his eyes.
“Demi,” Finn repeated with a sigh. “Look, I’ll do this, but I’m not gonna trust you instantly, okay? I was looking pretty good going into this game.” And he didn’t need some partner bringing him down.
***
Ash had been watching the guys warily until she saw a hand raise in response to her call for her partner. She followed the voice until she wad standing in front of Jaxon with her arms crossed. Sure, she was terrified, but she couldn’t let Jaxon know that. No, district 10 turned out some pretty strong victims and she liked to believe she was one as well. “Jax,” she repeated with a slight nod. He seemed guarded, but she didn’t blame him. Not when it was possible that they’d die. Not when they literally had to put their lives in each other’s hands. “So, uh, should we split off from the group? Start discussing a strategy? Or our strengths? Or even getting to know each other?” she asked. Then she realized he may not have seen the list. “I’m Ash.”

Seeing a girl about his age approach, Marcus grinned, "So, I guess we're partners, yeah?" he said, extending his hand in greeting. Overall, Marcus was a very outgoing and optimistic person. He wasn't about to let the Hunger Games change that about himself. He intended on staying true until the end, no matter when it came. Looking around the room before meeting Cordelia's eyes, he raised his brows, "So, where do you want to start? We could get to know each other first. Or maybe do some training drills?" The options were pretty much endless. And seeing as they didn't really have much of a choice than to work together, he was fine with letting her pick what they did next.

Studying her for a moment before he spoke, Jax shrugged. "Strategy sounds fine with me." And with that, he turned around and walked off to one of the long tables that were supposedly meant for eating meals together. Sitting himself down at the end of an empty one, he waited for the girl--Ash--to speak first. He still wasn't sure about this whole partner thing and was contemplating just blowing it off to avoid getting attached. But he decided he would sleep on it and decide how he felt in the morning. For now, he was going to give her a chance.

Well, Jax seemed to be pretty focused. Ash would have liked to get to know him, but growing attached would probably be bad. Especially since it wasn’t hard to see that he was a handsome man. She gave her brother one last look before following him to the table and sitting down across from him. With no one around, she felt a little more comfortable to begin talking. Part of her was happy to get a partner, though she wished she could have chosen her partner. “So... what are you thinking? I mean, where are your strengths? How do you think they’ll help us?”

Demi raised an eyebrow at Finn’s words.
“I’m not asking you to trust me. We’re not going to trust eachother in the arena, nobody does, and I know better than to trust another tribute. But for your information, I can keep up so you’ll still be looking just as good as you were before. You can relax.”
She paused, looking around the room. They needed to figure out where to start.
“I would suggest we train in the areas we aren’t experts in so we are fairly well-rounded in terms of skills, but we also shouldn’t train in anything the other is particularly skilled at. That way we all have decent skills but we’re not wasting valuable time enhancing skills the other already has. So, Finn, what are your skills?” the girl asked
They needed to work on what they already had, building new skills to help them handle life in the arena.
Because this was not going to be easy.

Letting out a deep breath, Jaxon shrugged, "What are my strengths? Let's see...well, I'm good with an axe. As I'm sure you know, District 7 is the lumber producer, so I also have a lot of plant knowledge. And I can climb trees. But all that is only helpful if we get some sort of forest-inspired arena." Leaning forward so his elbows were propped on the table, he stared at Ash. "And your strengths?" Since Ashlynn's district was known for agriculture, he had a feeling their strengths would probably be similar. Which could be good or bad, depending on what the game makers tried to pull this year.

“I guess so,” Cordelia agreed as she shook his hand
When he suggested a few different options for what they could do, she brushed some blonde hair behind her ear, biting her lip as she thought.
“Well, I would suggest we start with figuring out our strengths. There’s no point going into training if we don’t know one another, and if we don’t know what skills we’re working with. I’m pretty handy with all of the basic District 4 skills that you would expect; use of tridents, swimming, fishing, all of that stuff. I guess I’m pretty strong? I’m not slow but I’m not particularly fast either, and I guess my stamina is pretty average. What about you?”
This would be a good way to start. Figure out where the other person was strong and try and work with that.
This guy seemed alright, though she made it clear with her body language that she didn’t quite trust him yet. She probably never would, but she’d work together with him just fine. She was still, however, always going to be on alert just in case he were to stab her in the back.

As the girl spoke, Marcus nodded, one arm across his chest while the other hand was raised to his chin. "Alright, alright. The trident thing is pretty cool. Since my district mostly makes food, I'm not exactly familiar with any weapons--now that I'm thinking about it we probably should work on that--but I can whip us up a nice meal out of pretty much anything. And I'm definitely on the stronger side, and can do fast bursts of speed. Nothing super long distance though." As he spoke, he realized he was kind of rambling. It was one of the things he did when he was nervous. "I think it's good that we came from such different districts, you know. It gives us a wider variety of skills that will help once we are in the arena." He didn't know if she felt the same way, but he was trying to look on the bright side. This partner thing couldn't be all that bad.

“Well, that’s helpful definitely,” Cordelia nodded “because to be honest I don’t have much actual survival knowledge that might help while we’re out there. That’s something that could be worked on.”
Her hands were crossed across her chest, but her body language wasn’t aggressive. She just wasn’t opening herself up to this boy yet. She would be careful, as careful as she possibly could.
“I agree; we’ve got a better chance of making it out of that arena if we have a wider range of skills.” she said with a smile “but I think we can widen that range of skills even further.”
She looked at the training options around the room before fixing her gaze back on Marcus.
“We need you to get some skills with a weapon, and I would suggest that we both get some basic survival skills. I need to especially develop a range of skills because there’s a chance there won’t be water in the arena, which would render me almost useless. It’s hard to get your hands on a trident, too, so I’ll have to try my hand at some other weapons just in case.” Cordelia suggested

Ash nodded as she listened to Jax. He did have some good talents, but they only slightly differed from hers. “I’m good with animals - well, nature in general. Woodworking. I’m not sure how much that’ll help us, but it at least means I know tools. How to build it. That stuff...” she shook her head. “Speed. Probably my biggest asset. And I’m strong. Not like, crazy strong, but pretty average from someone from my district. Just comes with the work we do,” she said. She sighed. “Let’s just hope the arena will fit us well,” she said, looking over at Jaxon and wishing they knew what they’d be facing.
***
Would she be able to keep up with him? Finn didn’t think so. No, he was one of the best tributes to leave district four and he only wished the rest of them would see that. they shouldn’t even bother competing. Not when he had one parent and a baby sister that needed him to come home.
He definitely wasn’t happy with the way she tried to take immediate control, but he kept his expression even as he continued. “Fishing. Swimming. Tridents. Whatever you’d expect from a district four tribute,” he said, not even pausing for a breath. “I say we start by splitting up the skills that neither of are strong in. I mean, sure, we’ve got weak skills, but they’re still usable. Practicing in what neither of us can do will give us a larger pool of skills to pull from and we’ll be able to handle whatever they throw our way.”

She thought it was arrogant for him to assume that he was better than all of the other tributes, but she didn’t say anything about it. She knew she wasn’t the most skilled tribute that year, but she knew she was decent enough to keep up with Finn, whatever he may say
“I agree. Your skills are excellent provided there are large bodies of water, but we need to prepare for every eventuality. I would suggest that I need to pick up some skills with a weapon. I know how to identify edible plants so we don’t need to cover that. Maybe one of us could cover hunting and traps? I don’t know; what you want to cover is totally up to you. It wouldn’t harm me to build up some more strength and speed. I can do healing and stuff like that, so we don’t need to worry there. Maybe we need a variety of long range weapons, short range weapons and hand-to-hand combat so all of our bases are covere.”
She didn’t know if he felt like she was taking control too much, so this far she had only spoken about the skills she felt she should develop.
“What do you think? Any thoughts?” Demi asked

Ellie was relieved when the gamemaster stated they would win in pairs. The 2nd candidate seemed like they could take care of themselves, this could be in the young girl's favor. She gave off a smirk towards the other district 1 contestant ,popping the gum that she began chewing when they got to the facility. With this going for her and the amount of trianing shes recieved from her family, the game could be easily in her hands.
So when the gamemaker mentioned being partnered with a different faction, Ellie was livid to no end. She was one of the first ones up to the board. Ellie saw who she was paired up with, he was practically staring. Its that boy from district 3. She eyed him up and down, she scowled and spat out her gum at the disposal bin next to her. Ellie was not impressed.

Joel did not regret volunteering for the little 13 year old boy that got picked during the reaping. That was not the main reason he volunteered though. If Ash wouldnt have gotten picked for the females selection, He wouldve let the boy continue into the games. Hes as selfish as the rest of them come, it took him plenty of courage to volunteer. It was just... Something that had to be done. To protect his sister.
This hunger games was for them to be partnered after all, the gamemaker confirmed this. He did not expect the stomach churning feeling that came with the elegant woman announcing this years twist though. He was to kill his sister to win. Joel, Irregardless of the immediate change to the rules, was still here for the same reason. Even if he couldnt win with his little sister, it meant the world to him that she could have a higher chance to live. As she let go of his hand to go look at the list of partners, he couldnt help but just take a moment to breath and accept his imminent death. He gave off a sad smile to Ash as she looked toward him, noticing the guy from 7 was probably her partner. Joel didnt mean to glare at him, but he couldnt help but feel protective over his sister. He gave off a sigh, hands on his pockets and went towards the list to find who his partner was. The girl from 3.

Mallory was competitive, always eager to prove her smarts over her younger brother, always eager to be the best in school, always stubborn when she was wrong. But a fear filled her heart when the reaping called her name, but that wasn’t it. That was fine, so? She goes in ther, she has the smarts to win. She can get back home. Though she knew her morals would die, she would be broken. The males called, and her baby brother. Her biggest enemy, her closest friend. His name was called, and all she remembered after that was screaming.
And then the train, silent, was it.
Sitting through the lady talking was boring, until she mentioned the thing about partners. She exchanged a look of hope with her brother. But then it crashed, partners were from other districts. Her brother wasn’t going to be with her! It broke her heart. She kept strong though, she would die to save him. She would compete as far as she old into the game, with him protected, and then when he had a chance, she would do whatever it took, even if it meant killing her partner or herself, to save him. She was sure.
Standing up, she walked to the list. She raised an eyebrow, Joel? She heard he volunteered, and sympathy filled her heart. Didn’t he have a sister too? Shaking her ear, she walked over to him, spotting him, and stopped before him. “Person to person here, I’m just saying, we make it as far as we can, but we protect our family first.” She added, sure to be silent. Her eyes narrowed, “My brother matters more than I do, if anything happens to him, then I won’t hesitate to join him in death. Regardless of your life, he comes first.” She added, protective over her brother. She wanted to set these lines, and her voice lowered some, “And I expect the same from you, for your sibling. I think our best plan, is to find our siblings and their partners, and team up with them. Make a bigger group, survive longer, provide them protection.” She added.

Felix crossed his arms. He cared not for the girl in his district, and he couldn’t be happier when they announced they got new partners. In his opinion, it was an improvement, he didn’t want to go home expecting to have some attachment to her. So he listened, and stood up. He just hoped he didn’t get one of the young kids, or some week person. He couldn’t handle it. But when he saw his partner he allowed a small smirk, though it went away. Who the heck was Kora?

Alexander rubbed his chin as he thought about this revelation. He knew the games could be unpredictable but none of his training prepared him for this. No biggie, I should be able to keep myself and my partner alive. He just hoped his partner was competent. Last thing he wanted was to pretty much carry the team. Speaking of which, where was his partner? He needed to size him or her up and hatch their plan.

Ah, great, the girl spitting out the gum and glaring at him. Pascal could see that this wasn’t going to be an easy Games. If this girl had her way, she’d kill him on the first night and then strike out on her own. So he had to prove he was a decent partner for this partner thing to happen decently.
Which was why he approached her, not bothering to offer his hand to shake because he sensed she would decline.
“Listen, I’m not happy about this and neither are you, which means we’re on the same page. I’ve got a sister here who I would much rather be with to make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid to protect me. But we’re here now, so I suggest we make the best of it.”
He looked around the room, looking at the different options they had for training.
“What are your skills? We can build from that. I’m excellent at strategy, enginneeing, and I guess I’m pretty fast. I suggest for weapons, if you don’t already use knives, we train with those. Statistically, they are the most likely to appear in the arena, far more than any other weapon, and they are much more versatile.”

Marcus nodded as he listened to Cordelia's words. He could tell she was smart, which was a good trait to have in a partner. Glancing in the direction of the weapons area of the facility, he said, "Want to start there then? I think we should maybe work on things we can throw, to avoid close contact fighting. Knives, spears and whatnot. That way we can protect ourselves or attack from a distance." He wanted to avoid directly fighting anyone, since he knew his lack of training would definitely put him at a disadvantage compared to some of the other tributes.

. "Yes, hopefully we will get lucky and it'll be something we are familiar with," Jax replied, before sighing. "Well, we should probably get training. Would you prefer to work on weapons training or survival skills first? I think both are important, so we should treat them as such." He said, folding his hands together in front of him as he leaned forward. As he waited for her to reply, the wheels of his mind were turning. He had to figure out a way to win.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
𝕊𝕙𝕒𝕕𝕠𝕨 Kora had taken her time making her way to the list of partners. She wasn't going to look like a desperate idiot rushing over. To her, it didn't matter who her partner was. She wasn't going to waste precious time looking out for some fool. If they couldn't keep up with her, then she wasn't going to lower herself to their level. Her height gave her a bit of an advantage, so she could see the list over the heads of those in front of her. So it appeared her partner was Felix, the male tribute from District 5. She and her mentor had gone over all the tributes until she had them memorized, so she knew exactly who he was. She had anticipated him as competition, so she supposed it was good that they had incentive not to kill each other. Not to say she wouldn't if it came down to it, but at least it was one less person between her and victory. If they happened to make it to the final 2 and he was still alive, that was fine by her. But she could care less if he died along the way. Making her way through the crowd, she stood before him. "Felix?" She said, technically as a question, but one that did not need answering since she knew that she had approached the right tribute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hawkeyes258 Having positioned herself at the back of the crowd, Octavia had actually been able to get to the list pretty quickly, without much hassle. One of the other tributes bumped into her, and she gave them an annoyed stare, but she didn't do anything about it. They could take out their frustrations later. Finding her name, she mouthed the name of the guy she would be partnered with. "Alexander...from District 2." A small smile crept up on her face as she realized her luck. If he was from District 2, that probably meant he was a career, and would have been trained for this his whole life. Pushing her way back through the crowd of tributes, she looked for the guy she was partnered with. "Alexander?" She called out hesitantly. There were several guys who could have fit the District 2 stereotypes, so she didn't know which one to approach. Because, if she was being honest, she hadn't really educated herself on who was who, which may have put her at a big disadvantage.

“That sounds good to me,” Cordelia nodded “I might try with a spear. It won’t feel that different to a trident to hold, I just need to use it a little differently. What about you?”
As she spoke, she was leading the way to weapons area. She would also try and train with a shorter range weapon just in case it was needed, but for now she would focus on long-range weapons with Marcus. She might even have a look at hand-to-hand combat just in case. Being unprepared in these games could mean your death. Cordelia had seen it happen time and time again.
“So, did you leave a lot behind in your district?” Cordelia said as she picked up spear, feeling its weight in her hands.
Might as well get to know him a little while they were training. He seemed like a decent guy, and it was good to know who she was working with.
