(hi lovelies! I’m back! And I’m good with the capital saying they will get a partner (not specifying that it is NOT the person from your district) then once they get there on like the first day of training they announce partners!)

(Ok! I may go ahead and post a starter for everyone once they get to the facility so that we can all start interacting, since neither of our characters are from the same district. Unless you want to wait till you finish the guy from 12 and we can do a train scene)

(Ok, I had to rearrange a few pairings but they should all be good now! And nowwww for the grand opening...*trumpet noises*)
The Game Keeper looked out at the twenty four faces that stared back at her. So many different people, all brought together for one single cause.
She thought it was beautiful.
Locking her hands behind her back, she began to pace as she spoke. "Welcome. It is an honor to be hosting you for this next week. The Capital has spared no expense on your housing, food, and training facilities. Especially because it is the 100th anniversary of the Hunger Games." Pride rang out in her voice as her words settled on the children before her. Clearly most of them didn't share her enthusiasm for the games. No matter. She wouldn't let their lack of excitement damper her own.
"Over the next seven days, you have free reign over these facilities. But it is imperative that you follow the rules. No fighting. No killing. No escaping. Save that energy for the arena. Here, it would be wise to spend your time honing your strengths and strengthening your weaknesses."
Stopping her pacing, she stood erect and faced all of them. "As you all know, this will be our fourth Quarter Quell, which means we, the Game Makers, have added a special twist to this years Games. You will each get a partner in the games...someone who can work with you to help you as you navigate the arena together. If you and your partner both make it to the final two, you will both be declared Victors."
At her words, she saw those from the same districts looking hopefully at one another. Smiling, she continued. "Your partners have already been assigned. No one has a partner from the same district as themselves. They are all completely random. I recommend meeting your partner and working together over the next week. Become a team that can defeat any challenge it faces. A list has been posted on that wall, so find your partner as soon as possible. And may the odds be ever in your favor."
With the signature line delivered, the game maker bowed her head and made her exit, leaving the tributes to meet their new partners. This year's games would be interesting indeed.
(Hey I think I may do away with the whole "If your partner dies you dies" thing just fyi)

Ash had stuck close to Joel’s side since the pair had left their home in district 10. She couldn’t believe that they’d really be... leaving. That it was likely neither of the siblings would make it home. She wasn’t sure what was worse - that, or one making it home without their best friend at their side. She was suddenly bitter that her brother had volunteered to come with her. He could have been at home, safe, but now he was putting himself in danger for her.
She didn’t know what she’d do without him.
Now, she listened to the game maker speak. When she talked about partners, Ash grinned and reached for her brother’s hand. She’d feel so much more comfortable knowing they were a team... until the woman broke the second piece of news. Ash’s face fell and dread crept through her veins as she realized that meant that Joel would be her... enemy.
She was one of the first to make a move to the list and spotted a name quickly. “Jaxon...” she said, half trailing off as she looked over the boys that had been chosen for the games. One of them - Jaxon - would hold her life in his hands and she wasn’t sure she was ready for that.

As the gamekeeper spoke, Pascal stood next to his older sister Mallory. They had always been a competitive pair, but now the life of one meant the death of another, and it was different now. He was close with Mallory, and so he was scared for her. What if she didn’t make it? Pascal wasn’t exactly optimistic about his chances either. Sure, he was smart, but that didn’t always count for anything. Having ideas was much less reliable than, say, the strength the career tributes had.
And then the gamekeeper said that they were getting partners, and Pascal looked at his sister with a hopeful smile. He knew his sister, they both knew the ofher’s strengths and weaknesses. Maybe they stood a chance if they were paired together.
And then the gamekeeper went on to explain that the partners were not going to be between people of the same district. Fine, well that was that idea torn apart then, his hopes dashed. Never mind, he would make the best of it.
He approached the list after the gamekeeper left and saw he was paired with the district 1 girl, Ellie. A career district. We’re they trying to get Pascal killed?
———————
Cordelia stood next to Finn, the boy of her own district, as the gamekeeper spoke. She, too, had looked at her district partner when she said that they would be paired up. They were pretty similar, and had strong abilities. They would make a pretty good team were they to be put together.
But then it was explained that the partners wouldn’t be from one’s own district, and Cordelia had to stop herself from letting out a huff. She didn’t want to be paired with another district’s tribute. She’d rather work alone than with someone she didn’t know.
Still, she might be paired with someone good. She didn’t know.
So she examined the list left by the gamekeeper. Marcus, District 9.
She figured she might as well go and introduce herself to him and so she scanned the room until she saw the boy she recognised as the district 9 tribute. She approached him, offering him a small smile in greeting. Cordelia didn’t really do friendliness and trust until she knew someone was trustworthy. She didn’t open herself up easily and she wasn’t about to do so now.
“You must be Marcus,” Cordelia greeted “Cordelia, district 4.”
————————-
Demi, it had to be said, was not really prepared for the Hunger Games. She had certain skills and attributes, but she still wasn’t sure how to maximise them to her advantage in the arena. That was what the training centre was for, though, she supposed.
She wanted to win, but as long as she didn’t go down because of something stupid that could have been easily avoided, she didn’t care. She just wanted a little dignity, not that she suspected she would get a whole lot.
Upon hearing that their partners wouldn’t be from their own district, she felt a little nervous. She couldn’t trust other district’s tributes, the games had taught her so for years and years. How on earth could she be expected to be partnered up with someone from another district? Trust them with her life?
She approached the list after the gamekeeper left. She was with Finn, district 4. A career district. Well, that wasn’t the greatest of starts, but maybe this would be okay.
Demeter approached the boy she was pretty sure was Finn.
“Finn? I’m Demeter, but everyone calls me Demi,” she said by way of greeting, giving a smile so she didn’t seem rude
