Hmm, well I'm okay with or without romance. I actually prefer to have characters interact a couple times first before I decide whether or not to ship them, though this isn't always the case. I almost feel as though if we pick/build our characters specifically for them being together, then the plot tends to revolve more around their relationship than anything else. Not that that's always a bad thing, but for a fantasy setting it may not be ideal. I suppose it comes down to whether we want our characters to be intentionally romantically involved, or if we want to just let their dynamic develop naturally in its own way. But about the setting. Because this is modern fantasy, there a couple ways to do this. We could do a sort of integrated culture where humans are fully aware of magic and magic beings and live alongside them, or we could do the old-fashioned thing and have it be a secret from humans. Obviously, since my dragon character can disguise themselves as a human, they can blend in pretty well aside from not being well-acquainted with modern technology. On that note, my character is technically a giant winged lizard for all intents and purposes, but because their magic allows them to have a human disguise, they're able to choose whether that disguise is male or female. They prefer the female human form, so they tend to present themselves that way when blending in with people. Just a little tidbit of info I thought I'd share, X3

I'm the same way so I totally get it. I rarely plan for romance but because some of my characters don't do romantic relationships at all and other's are only attracted to very specific people I find it best to ask whether romance is something the other person would be interested in / would rather not completely rule out beforehand just in case c:
and they sound interesting for sure! maybe it could be a secret but like, not one that's enforced. so anyone could tell anyone, but because generally people don't accept it without proof or even reject proof that's offered & very few people actually try to go public with it it's still managed to stay pretty unknown? idk if that even makes sense haha

@reese Yeah, that makes sense. XD Honestly, my dragon character is pretty much compatible with anyone, regardless of their gender, should there be any romance - since they can present themselves as male or female as they choose, they don't really discriminate(I'll probably start referring to them as she/her once the RP actually starts, since I'm more used to that). And if there's no romance, then well, platonic relationships can be just as fun. So, that all being said, we'll just go with our characters developing their relationship on their own? Yeah, that makes sense! We can do that. Let's say dragons are pretty rare even among the magical races, too. Like, almost extinct. Or, just really reclusive and not at all fond of humans.
@valkoinen Yes! Here it is!

yeah, absolutely! do you mind whether I use a human / some sort of creature? like, did you have one in mind already? bc if you've no preference I might just go with a djinn I haven't used in a bit and kinda miss. he probably wouldn't be available for romance but that doesn't bother me so as long as it doesn't bother you it's not a problem c:

Haha no, I don't mind whatever character you use! XD The wider variety of characters I have to RP with, the more chance I have to develop my own character. My dragon's got the kind of personality and quirks that would make really any type of interaction interesting, romantic or platonic. XD She's kind of obsessive over cleanliness and order, to the point of breaching the personal space of people she's only recently met to fix a crooked shirt collar or wrinkle, haha. Or if she's invited into someone's home, she tends to tidy up anything messy. Honestly, if it's possible for a dragon to have OCD, she probably has it.
I may also include a few side characters, as well. I like to have a repertoire of characters at hand sometimes in order to help the plot along and keep things interesting.

side characters are literally my favourite thing so I get it lol
would you mind maybe working out something plot wise before I make final decisions about the character I'm going to main? I always find that's a much easier route for me to take. if you'd rather go completely character based I can give it a go, I just find that super difficult haha

I've always been a fan of war plots tbh lol for ideas, I have to admit I'm quite low? the only thing that really comes to mind is maybe doing something with how unknown non-human creatures are but idk tbh
