(You got it)
Jasmine Felling was close to her siblings. Or as close as she could be; Luka was a tricky one, though she admired him. She admired both her older brothers. Luka was just much more distant, meaning she was closer with Shep. While Luka was his right-hand man, Jas was Shep’s advisor; she had a much clearer moral compass than Luka, after all.
Right now she was sitting in their little house, which was about as big and as nice as houses on this street ever got. It was still small and in a bad state of repair, but others had it worse. She was sitting on their couch, firing off texts on an old second-hand phone. She tried to stay in contact with the gang as much as possible to keep them updated on what was happening, which was another part of her role. She communicated everything to the gang members. If they had orders from Shep or Luka, Jas would be the one to tell them. Mainly because if she couldn’t message them she was the best at delivering the messages in person, considering her skill in stealth.
She didn’t know where Luka was, he hadn’t texted in a while. But she assumed he just got busy; he could take care of himself, after all. He was a big boy. And she’d know if he had gotten arrested or something like that because one of the other gang members would have found out by now or seen it happen and they’d have let her know. She knew he was probably safe.
“Any orders, Shep?” Jas called to her brother in the next room “spart from for our slowpoke brother to get himself home?”
She was already replying to messages she already had, giving orders that she knew Shep would want her to give. Shep trusted her with certain things, but for most things she had to check with him. Which made sense, she supposed. This was a very complicated business, and Jasmine was not a leader like her brother was.
The phone she was using she reserved specifically for gang business. She had three phones, all old secondhand models. A personal mobile, a phone for gang business, and one purely for emergency calls from Shep. If that phone rang, her orders were to answer it instantly. It meant Shep was in danger, or something was going really wrong with the gang. It meant she was needed instantly

Luka had to admit there was something satisfying about this kid’s reactions to his words, but he wasn’t intending to annoy him and he certainly wasn’t going to continue if he could help it.
That was when he was given permission to head inside and he followed Bael into his home, nodding in response when he told him not to touch anything. He wouldn’t. People here had very few possessions and he wasn’t going to damage any of Bael’s.
He noted as he headed into the boy’s house that it was immaculately well-kept, save for some rat droppings in the corner. He seemed to maintain his home much better than anyone else in the street did. Of course, the house had some damage on the walls and floors like every home here did, but that wasn’t a comment on the owner. Certainly, Bael was doing a good job.
“You really take care of this place,” Luka commented as he looked around.
Most people didn’t seem to be bothered or else they worked too much to be able to clean their homes as well. Luka and Jas both had little jobs on the side, where they did the odd shift to keep money rolling in. Luka worked in a hardware store and Jas was a waitress. They weren’t too serious about it, but it kept a steady income. Income from gang activities was unreliable, after all. The family needed to support themselves.
“So, tell me, why is it you’re not interested in joining us or the Vultures? Most people your age on this street are pretty eager to pick a side and get involved.”
He was just curious at this point, wondering what made this man different from so many others.

Bael glared at the rat droppings in the corner. Ever since he moved in he's had a rat problem. So far he managed to get rid of most of it, except for one. “That damned rat” he grumbled under his breath. No matter what he did, the rat would not leave. It survived every attempt to trap it and was smart enough to avoid the poison he put out.
“You win this round, you fiend, but next time you won't be so lucky” he muttered before he remembered that Luka was also here.
He let out awkward cough “Yeah, well I have a lot of free time. I'm not willing to get myself sick by living in filth. Plus it's kind of a habit.” He got sick a lot as a kid, mostly because he unintentionally spent a lot of time outside in the sun. Most of the times he got badly burnt and got some kind of infection. Getting sick wasn't really something he enjoyed, mostly because-
He didn't really want to think about it any more than he had to.
When Luka asked the question, Bael let out a breath of air. He sat down on the sturdy coffee table and took off his sunglasses. He faced him and started cleaning them with his sleeve before answering.
“First, I'm not really interested in joining something just because someone said so.” The only thing he was somewhat okay with was his current job, which was part time only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sure he barely had time to work, but it meant that he had to deal with people less.
“Second, if you haven't noticed, I'm not a people person” Bael stated. Most situations he'd rather just avoid being around people all together. It was part of the reason why he was fine with cleaning his house, it meant he didn't have to deal with anyone.
“Third, I don't want to be a criminal” he said, putting his sunglasses back on. He'd been trying his hardest to keep out of trouble, but it kept finding him wherever he went. It didn't help his situation when he somehow got himself a alias.

Nico relaxed inwardly when Gianna told him that she believed him, not allowing his body to relax, but mind doing so as he realized that he might actually make it out with the soup without getting hurt. "Good. " He said, smirking once more as he slowly inched towards the clerk, only freezing at the question.
You have a little brother, right? This for him? For only a millisecond his armor cracked, anxiety finally flickering onto his features, before he quickly covered it as he gave a slow nod.
There wasn't any point in denying it- as much as he liked to keep Jordie from gang activity they all lived on the same street. It would only really take a week or so of observing the child to realize that he lived with Nico, and their features were similar enough to tell anyone they were brothers. Him being sick, though, was something that he didn't want anyone knowing.
Frankly he didn't trust the Vultures and wouldn't put it past them to kidnap the kiddo when he was ill, use him for some kind of ransom.
HIs jaw nearly dropped, though, when the woman pulled out cash of her own and offered it to him. The prideful part of him wanted to snap that he wasn't a charity case- that he could take care of his kid brother all on his own thank-you-very-much, but he couldn't do that. Even if that fire flickered onto his features for a moment he knew that he couldn't jeopardize Jordies well being just because Nico was being prideful and petty.
He'd made that mistake once before and it nearly ended both of them in the hospital.
So he took the money quietly, giving a sharp nod, because it was for the best. "Thank you." He'd been doing his best to provide Jordie the childhood he'd never had himself- Nico had more often than not had been the target of their fathers abuse and even back then Nico had tried to take the blame whenever he feared that his father would turn his wrath on his sickly little brother. The first day Jordie had actually been injured had been the day he'd packed up and left with the little guy- Jordie had only been six and was completely unaware that they were running away until Nico had gotten him to a safe place.
Since then he'd done anything to get his hands on extra money, to ensure that he was at least decently fed and not sick enough to go to the hospital. He did scoff, though, at the threat, old persona returning as he grabbed a few cheap cans of soup (this time tomato and chicken noodle, he might be able to get the kid to eat it when he was less fussy) and the smallest thing of childrens cough medicine he could find, unable to believe he had enough for this. "And-uh, I won't be coming here no more. Don't worry about it..." He assured awawkrldy, glancing around, as if waiting for another Vulture to come out of the backroom and exclaim this was all a trick.
He needed to get out of here, and fast, before his brain convinced him to do something stupid.

Gia knew she had been right even before Nico nodded, when she caught the expression that passed briefly across his face. He was nervous that the Vultures were aware of his little brother. Well, everyone knew everyone on Brook Street, but Nico didn’t need have to worry. Gianna didn’t think they’d ever want to harm Jordie, not even to get at the Vipers. Though she might be wrong.
She’d thought for a second that he wasn’t going to take the money, that he was going to be insulted. Like she was saying he was a charity case. But he took it, and she relaxed a little. She didn’t want a confrontation.
“Don’t mention it,” she said when a shrug when he thanked her
She knew she could trust him to keep this quiet. It wouldn’t benefit him at all to throw Gia under the bus, especially when she’d been kind to him. Plus, telling anyone about this would be admitting he’d just went strolling into Vulture territory just to buy soup, something she expected the Fellings would not be particularly impressed with if they found out about it.
“Hey, don’t sweat it.” Gia replied “If you ever need to come back here, just make sure it’s me here and not one of the others. I’m not going to stop you coming in to buy medicine for your sick brother, I’m not heartless, but I can’t speak for the others.”
She stuck her hands in her pockets and shrugged.
“I just think if the rest of us had grown up with someone who cared about them as much as you care about your brother, we wouldn’t be where we are now. Somebody deserves a decent chance at life on our street.”

Nico let out a soft sigh of relief, not fully turning his back to her, though, as he made his way to the check out area finally. He said nothing to the woman who scanned his items, giving her all the cash he had, back still slightly turned so he could face Gia.
He couldn't help the small rush of gratitude when Gia said that if he needed to get medicine here, he wasn't going to be stopped by her. He just needed to be careful... make sure that she was the one on this spot instead of anyone else. He managed a weak chuckle when she said she wasn't heartless, but she couldn't speak about the others, because he knew it was the truth. He was playing a very dangerous game here, being in their territory and all.
"Alright. I'll be more careful then," He decided wryly, before looking a little surprised at the comment, eyes softening.
"I agree. I'd love nothing more than for him to leave here one day and never come back. He doesn't even know about the gangs here. Just thinks theyre a big family or something. I want to keep it that way, too." He said firmly, shifting on his feet once more, realizing he actually had enough soup to last them for awhile if they were careful and that knowledge was almost surreal to Nico.

“I get that.” Luka said when Bael talked about cleaning being a habit, about not wanting to get sick.
Everybody had different things they needed to do to cope with living on Brook Street. For Jas it was her sports, for example. Luka didn’t know about him, he’d never really thought about it before.
He nodded in response to his answers to the question.
“Fair enough, I can respect that. I’m not a people person either, and I know I wouldn’t join the gangs just because someone told me to. Especially if that person was me. As for being a criminal, I own up to that one. If Hensell gets his hands on the right evidence he could get me behind bars for a long time. My brother and little sister too. But, you know, you do what you can to manage around here. Shep and I always had Jas to be responsible for. Most of us aren’t really bad people. But, yeah, I understand if you want to keep your nose clean.”
He understood this man more than he assumed he would. They clashed a little, sure, but perhaps they wouldn’t have if Luka wasn’t in a gang. Things might have been very different in that case.
“Well, you know what, I genuinely hope this works out for you. If you can manage here without being a gang member, then you should try.” Luka responded.
Hey, it could never have worked for Luka, with his family being who they were. But if Bael could make it work for him, he might as well do it. Self-sufficiency was a great thing to have, after all.

(Might be short)
“Well, for what it’s worth, I hope he gets out of here too.” Gianna replied “and I hope he does get off Brook Street one day. Not a lot of people manage it."
It took money that a lot of the residents didn’t have to manage to get off the street. Not to mention that it was almost impossible to sell the houses there anyway. It was kind of a curse.
A memory came to Gianna from when she was maybe six years old. A rich couple came to visit her, almost adopted her and everything, but changed their minds at the last minute. It was only a few months later the Pynes adopted her and while Gia was so grateful that they had taken her in, she couldn’t help but think about how different her life could’ve been if she’d been adopted by those posh people.
“You just be careful, keep yourself and your brother out of trouble. You can’t protect him if you get yourself hurt.”
He would have to be careful not to get involved in petty gang fights or anything of that sort. Gia would now try and protect him if it came down to it, but obviously her deeper loyalties were to her family and the Vultures.
“As far as I’m concerned, you’re aleigjt. I can even buy things from here and bring them to you so you don’t have to keep coming out here. If that would help you.” Gianna replied.

Bael gave a slight shrug “I don't care if people think I'm weird for it, but I'm not going to be that a-hole who walks down the street that smells like crap and has maggots having a feast because he decided being clean wasn't worth it.” In a way, he hated his cleanliness habit, only because of how it was ingrained in his head. If he ever thought about what he was doing too much, he felt like he'd suddenly break down and throw a table through a window.
Bael gave a relieved nod to Luka, grateful that he was finally understanding. At least he had that going for him, though he was still cautious about him. It could always be a ploy to catch him with his guard down, or it was a really subtle push to get him to join. Either way, he wasn't fully ready to trust him.
“Do you?” Bael questioned after listening to his statement about hoping it would work out for him. He wasn't quite sure if it was a genuine statement or not.
He hoped it would turn out alright for him. He hoped he might make enough money to finally leave this nightmare of a city and go somewhere else, preferably to a place that didn't make him sick to his stomach. Who knows really. Though, checking out his luck, he wasn't even sure if he could get that far.

Shep loved Jas. Sure, he loved Luka too, but Luka was a bit more distant from the two. Jas, while he knew he could handle herself, was the one that Shep was much more protective of. When he’d taken over the reins of the gang, it hadn’t been a hard decision to make Luka his second in command. His brother was good at what he did. His only fear these days was what would happen if Luka died. Jas was the obvious next choice and Shep knew she’d be good at the job, but it was also a lot more dangerous and stressful than being a member and he didn’t want that for her. He wanted to shield her from the horrors of this life, only wishing he’d been able to do that when she was young. Hearing his sister’s voice, Shep looked down at the money he’d been counting. A recent raid had gone well and it was more money than they’d had in a while. He stuffed it back into his sock drawer as he left the room to join her back on the couch. He needed to figure out where to put the funds. New weapons or food? Something fun for the gang? A little bonus for the members? He’d decided on that later. At her question, he leaned his head back and closed his eyes to think. “Why don’t you have have Jett patrol the the east side of the territory. I saw some Vultures hanging out around there the other day and I don’t like it,” he said. He tipped his head to look over at her. “What about you? What do you think they should do?” Despite being the leader, he’d occasionally been giving Jas some questions like that. Trying to shape her if she had to stand up and take one of her brothers’ places. Any day could be the day Shep or Luka died. ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧

(I’m back! We had a shoplifter at work today O.o)
Jas nodded at her brother’s suggestion, fingers flying across the keyboard as she wrote out a quick text to Jett.
’patrol along eastern border until you receive further orders.’
She almost instantly got a reply from Jett; the patrol began almost instantly. It was amazing how fast the gang could communicate.
When he asked her what she thought should he done, she bit her lip for a moment before she spoke again.
“I suggest we set up a constant patrol there for maybe a week or two. But we make sure it isn’t too obvious and that the member who we select isn’t one who looks overly intimidating physically but who we know could fight off any threats. We want to protect our territory, not provoke the Vultures into an attack. We could have Nico or Garph keep an eye on Hensell’s patrol, we need to know where he is whenever he’s in our territory. That frees up everyone else for jobs later on. Including Luka, wherever he is.”
She sent a quick text to her brother as well, this time from her personal mobile.
’Luka, you better get your ass home’
She knew why Shep tested her. The day might come where one or both of her brothers weren’t there anymore and Jas would need to take care of the gang herself. She wouldn’t like having that position, but she’d do it. And she knew she was capable of it. She was more diplomatic than Luka was, that was for sure. If Shep died, she knew Luka could succeed him. And Jas knew that she herself was capable of any role if she really put her mind to it.
She wouldn’t like it, but she could do it if she needed to, and that was all that mattered. She was confident.

(Oooh were they caught?) Shep watched Jas send out the message, nodding in approval of his sister’s work. He used to send messages himself - or pass them onto Luka if he was too busy - but it was nice having Jas to be in control of the communication with the other members. Plus, it meant that people were more alert when they received a message from Shep himself. It meant something was very, very urgent. He listened to what she had to say, smiling a bit. Jas was good at this, even if he didn’t want to think of her being in his position one day. He’d actually become leader at only 20. It was extremely young for a gang leader, but he had been sort of pushed into the role and it was terrifying. He’d been at this for five years and had grown pretty good at his job. “Put Nico on Hensell. I want Garph freed up in case we need him,” he decided. Nico was a valuable member of the gang, but so was Garph. Garph being a cop only added to his worth to Shep and he wanted the man available whenever possible. He watched Jas send another message to Luka. “He better have a good reason for going off the grid,” he grumbled. While he knew Luka could take care of himself and didn’t believe his brother would do anything to endanger himself or the gang, he didn’t like not knowing where his siblings were. Sure, he wanted all of his gang members accounted for, but family was more important to him. ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧

(Yeah, they were. If they’d gotten away they’d have stolen £50 worth of stuff.)
Jas nodded, sending a message out to Nico too.
’Hensell patrols in a couple of hours. Keep an eye on him while he’s in our territory. Immediately contact Ghost if anything happens.’
She always tried to use aliases when applicable in gang messages, as it protected the identities of members if anyone managed to find the phone one day. Ghost was, of course, Shep.
She nodded at her brother’s words about Luka, but she knew he was okay. Shep just worried about his siblings. Not just because they were family, which was obviously important, but also because one sibling going down meant trouble for the whole family.
It was at that moment Luka replied on Jas’s personal phone.
’I’m okay. Talking to the White Devil. I won’t be too long. Relax, sis.’
Jas looked over at Shep, a small smile on her face.
“He’s talking to the Bael kid up the street. At least he’s socialising.” Jasmine said with a shrug
She sighed
“I think things are heating up with the Vultures. Are we prepared for all-out war if it comes to that?” Jas asked

(Oh wow. That’s a good amount)
Ghost fit Shep. He was tall and slim, his skin paler than it should be. He has a small pile of almost white-blonde hair on his head and his blonde stubble was Abreu visible. Plus, he moved like a ghost. He stayed undetected until he was in a position to take his target down.
He looked over her shoulder as he sent the message to Nico. He had an assortment of old phones himself. One specifically for Jas and Luka - his top people. One for gang business. One for personal reasons. One for his contacts that weren’t part of the gang, but got him information.
When Luka replies, he nodded in slight relief. Good. His brother wasn’t doing anything stupid and he wasn’t in trouble either. “Socializing is good,” he agreed. He wasn’t the most sociable himself, but he’d figured it out as he was thrust into this position.
At her question, he bit his lip and sat down beside his sister. “Will we eve be prepared for full out war?” Most likely not. They were poor. They couldn’t afford medical care or weapons or even enough food to keep everyone at peak performance. The only consolation was that the Vultures were in the same boat.

“Sure,” Luka said with a shrug “I mean, it would be great if you joined the gangs but I also know it would be great if at least someone on this street could... live normally and one day get off this street. If I lived on my own and didn’t have my siblings to think about I probably would never have joined the gangs. I’d have gotten a crappy job like the one I’ve got and saved up until I could afford to move out of here.”
He got a message from his sister at that moment, briefly shooting off a response before he looked at the man again.
“Props to you for trying, I guess. Not a lot of people have the guts. Just make sure you take care of yourself and be careful. Don’t go advertising the fact you aren’t picking sides; the gangs have an ‘if you aren’t with us, you’re against us’ kind of mentality.” the man said
He didn’t want Bael to get into trouble or anything, just because he wasn’t choosing a side. But that was the way things were, and nothing there was going to change. They all just had to adapt to it.
“Oh, and if the Pynes give you any trouble, tell me. Or Hensell, for that matter. Just don’t tell my siblings I said I’d do that for you” Luka responded
(I’m sorry that’s super short and bad x I’m probably gonna edit it a little later so it’s better)

Bael looked at him, blinking before he asked “well, you weren't forced to join, were you? You could have left if you didn't think about them.” Familial loyalties was something he never seemed to understand. Just because they were related didn't mean they were obligated to tell you how to live your life.
Though, he guessed it gave some people a purpose they could live for. He, frankly, was still trying to figure his out.
“Figures” Bael gritted his teeth “must be that paranoid if they think I'm out to get them just because I don't want to join them.” Talk about a headache. He just wondered if they would figure it out for themselves, or if they'd still try to convince him to join. Either way, he was in for a wild ride.
Bael squinted at his comment, but just nodded. Considering how much the families hated each other, going to him about potential troubles wasn't a bad one, even if he didn't completely trust him.
“Why don't you want me to tell them?” Bael asked, slightly confused by the request

A few days later, and Jordie was as good as new.
It was most likely because of the medicine that Nico had actually been able to afford because of Gias money, and it was somethign that Nico had still used sparingly, wanting to save it for a time where his little brother was worse off than he had been that day. Either way, the eight year old was well enough to attend school that next day, and now he was barely sniffling anymore.
So he decided that he was going to get his big brother a present for getting him better quickly and finding cold medicine for him. He wasn't as naive as Nico wanted him to be- he knew that stuff wasn't cheap and that Nicos job didn't make nearly enough for stuff like medicine so he wanted to show Nico that his extra efforts were appreciated.
He'd started to make a little business at his school, running messages for the girls who were fighting and finding ways to get extra portions for other kids during lunch, plus anything else he could do for a couple of coins. He'd managed to make enough to get a nice drink for Nico- maybe a Coke? He didn't know. Honestly, Jordie couldn't remember the last time Nico had something he really liked, but he decided he'd figure it out once he got to the store.
Now, this was where he'd get in trouble if Nico had actually figured out where he went, because Nico had always been so strict on not going on this side of town. He told Jordie over and over again that it was dangerous to go there- but did that actually matter? Their side of town was plenty dangerous, too, and his friend had shown him this absolutely awesome little store that had fresh(ish) donuts.
He wouldn't tell his brother, but his friend even stole a couple for the two of them to eat, and he'd found his favorite soup there, too. So of course he went there when he decided that Nico should be thanked for helping him.
Only problem was, he had no clue what to get him, and when he found a nice bag of chips and a candy bar, he realized he only had enough for one... so he slipped the candy bar into his baggy hoody, making sure the clerk didn't see him, before setting off to buy the bag of chips, trying not to feel as nervous as he was because he hadn't really done something like this before.

Gia was hanging around the same store she’d been st a couple of days ago when she’d come across Nico and helped him. She couldn’t help but wonder how his little brother was. Was the kid better yet?
But then she saw a kid that could have been a mini Nico walk into the store. Well, that was that question answered. She definitely knew he shouldn’t be on this side of town, so she decided she’d just keep an eye on him and make sure he was safe.
That was when she saw him stuffing a candy bar into his baggy hoodie. She couldn’t let him do that, if Nico found out he’d kill Jordie and probably Gianna if he found out she’d let his little brother steal. So she stepped in front of him before he could get to the counter, nodding towards one of the aisles so they could talk without the clerk seeing them or hearing what they were talking about.
“Your brother wouldn’t be happy if he knew you were stealing. Jordie, right? I’m Gianna Pyne, I met your brother here a few days ago. I see the medicine worked well.” she said with a small smile
She paused for a second, glancing around the store before she turned back to Jordie.
“It’s reslly not good for you to be on this side of town, either.” the woman said
She was worried a Vulture might see the kid as a prime target, as a good way to get at the Vipers. Because, after all, Nico couldn’t be the only Viper who cared at least a little bit about this kid.

The Whisper fit Jas too. She was slight and very light on her feet. If stealth was needed, she was a good person for that job. If she didn’t want to be seen, she wouldn’t be until it was too late. Plus it kind of worked with her being at the centre of gsng communication as well. Luka’s alias was less to do with his appearance and more to do with his role; The Reaper.
At her brother’s question, Jas shrugged.
“I doubt it,” she said with a small sigh “not that they will be either. But it’s never really a good idea to go into a war where we’re not at least more likely to win than lose. We’re too evenly matched. We need to do something to damage the Vultures before a war can even start, but them in a bad position. But of course it would have to be subtle so they don’t know we’re doing it, otherwise they’ll atttack.”
They weren’t really ready, which meant that if they were going to stand a chance against the larger gang they were going to have to sabotage them, and prepare for war as best they could in the meantime. Otherwise they were as likely to lose as they were to win. And more gang members could be hurt or killed if they didn’t do everything they could to upset the balance a little bit.
“The weak link for the Vultures is the Hensell girl. If her dad finds out she’s part of the gang, he’ll try to take the whole thing down, and he’ll be arresting them left, right and centre. Which also means he’ll be too distracted with them to bother with us and what we’re doing, meaning we can step up our game and get more money, more supplies so we’re prepared for possible war.”
