» Magnus Tougard « The Caretaker Dragon - Blizzardwing the Snow Wraith With: Kari & Freyja (Venom | Location: Dragon Stables
______________________
"Well, every once in a while Blizzardwing and I go out to a few nearby islands to see if we can find any injured or abandoned dragons," Magnus explained, pausing beside the last enclosure as he poured the last bowl of food for the dragons in his care. "It's been a while since we last went out looking, and usually we don't find anything, but when we do it's always good since we can bring them back here and treat them." He pushed himself to his feet, turning to Kari. "If you like, you can... come join us." He managed a half-smile, wonderinf if she'd be up to the job or not.
-x-
Blizzardwing chuckled as the playful Changewing rode Freyja's back not unlike a rider on their own dragon, turning and heading back toward the Changewings' enclosure. "Alright, little one, time for you to get some rest," she rumbled, nosing the little dragon gently until he reluctantly climbed down from Freyja's back and joined his siblings behind the fence. Blizzardwing nudged the gate closed with her nose, hearing the lock click into place and giving the little dragons a smile. "It won't be long before they're big enough to be moved to a proper stable," she commented. "Once they learn to fly and use their powers effectively, they can't really stay here. This is more of an infirmary or a nursery than a proper dragon's home." ______________________
☾ Kari Thorsdottir ☽ The Second In Command Dragon ~ Freyja Accompanied by Magnus Location ~ Dragon Stables
Kari raised an eyebrow and smiled mischievously. She considered his proposition of Kari joining him. She would love to see Magnus in action and how the rider and his dragon worked together. She nodded eagerly, “Of course!” She placed the bag in a corner and made sure it looked neat. She brushed her clothes a bit and placed her hands on her hips, “Where to?”
☾ Freyja☽ The Beta Deathsong - Threadtail Hybrid Rider ~ Kari Thorsdottir Accompanied by Blizzardfang Location ~ Above Berk
Freyja tried not to frown when the little Changewing had to go. She felt nice to be loved by an infant. She looked at Blizzardfang and nodded, “Makes sense,” She tilted her head curiously, “In these new stables, is that the place where they will find their rider?”

Lycaonia (I’m not exactly sure what happens to dragons when they get ill, so this is my best guess) At Calder’s worried tone, Leif couldn’t help but feel a steady increase in his heart rate. He kneeled down to see what the other man was talking about, examining the claw marks with much more scrutiny than before. “I...I think you’re right,” he stammered. “Little...Little Terror wouldn’t have left these under any n-normal circumstances.” He was beginning to stutter more now, as the worry began to set deep in his chest. Sure, the dragon was a bit rowdier than the others and somewhat brash, but if this really were a simple game of hide-and-seek that he was playing with them, then he wouldn’t have made these marks. “They seem almost frantic.”
At that realization, he cast an anxious glance in the direction of the storage room. And without a moment’s hesitation he stood up and swiftly made his way over to the other room, hoping that Calder would follow him. If something was wrong with Little Terror, Leif didn’t want to have to handle it alone.
He pushed the door open further to allow the outside light to illuminate the dark room. The light fell onto a wriggling silhouette on the floor, and to the Caretaker’s dismay, he saw that it was in fact the Terror he was searching for. Little Terror was writhing on the floor, giving small yelps and mewls in some sort of pain. His eyes were shut tight, and smoke steadily rose from his nostrils. “Calder, come quick!” Leif gasped, his tone riddled with surprise and worry.
***
Signy could understand Einarr’s frustration at not being able to sense the dragon’s emotions, since it must have been hard to try and pinpoint one among all the others. It made her curious about what it would be like to have a Hobblegrunt’s ability. Though in this situation, it was still more useful than a Nadder’s. Her thoughts were soon broken when Einarr suddenly insisted that they should help. Her head perked up, and she followed after the other dragon in a steady pace. Suddenly the Terror’s smell grew stronger in her nostrils, and that coupled with the worry emanating from their riders made her quicken her pace.

Magnus smiled at this, obviously pleased that she'd accepted his offer. "There's a group of islands west of here that I haven't been to in a while. They're a popular nesting ground for smaller breeds of dragons, but that also makes them a target for poachers and hunters. I try to swing by as often as I can to make sure there are no abandoned eggs or hatchlings," he explained, making his way back toward the front of the stable. He whistled for Blizzardwing as he passed by her, and his partner immediately came up to his side, apparently ready to go. He reached out to rub her flat nose briefly. "Most of the time there's nothing there, but nonetheless, you never know what could happen. I found that little Snow Wraith on one of my patrols, after all. She likely would have died if I hadn't found her."
-x-
"Most of the time, yes," Blizzardwing replied with a smile. "The babies that hatch here in these stables will most likely live on Berk their whole lives. Without a proper parent to teach them survival skills, this is the only safe place for them. For older dragons, though, ones who are sick or injured, and that webring back here to treat, we release after they're fully healed." she shifted her wings on her back. "A lot of older dragons that Magnus and I find don't want a life like the one we offer here. Many of them would rather return to their packs and families, and, well, we can't force them to stay." She chuckled softly at this, but was interrupted by Magnus's loud whistle. "Ah, looks like it's time for a patrol. Perhaps you and Kari will tag along?"

______________________
Brynn hummed an upbeat tune as she ran her fingers through her long, dark hair, twisting it into a tight and elaborate braid. She sat in her bedroom in front of a tall mirror, nimble fingers working carefully to make sure it both looked and felt good. Beside her, her dragon partner laid, his head on his paws as he waited for her to finish getting ready.
She plucked a small elastic band from off her desktop and wrapped it quickly around the bottom of the braid, holding the whole thing in place. Letting her hair fall over her shoulder, she nodded approvingly to her reflection and stood up. "Alright, 'Fang, time to get to work," she announced with a toothy smile. Daggerfang purred in response, standing up as well and following his life-long partner outside their little house. His slim shoulders barely fit through the human-sized doorway; if he were any bigger he'd have quite the hard time.
Brynn stretched her arms over her head as she walked outside, enjoying a brief moment of peace before Daggerfang was nudging her, already dragging his saddle over from where she always placed it by the front door, under the porch awning. She laughed quietly and obediently began to attach the saddle, knowing he was likely restless and eager for a quick morning flight.
-x-
Daggerfang tried not to fall asleep as Brynndis slaved away in front of the mirror. It always took the longest for her to do her hair, but she was adamant on not cutting it despite the fact that it was nearly half as long as she was tall. It was the longest part of her morning routine, and while Daggerfang was quite used to it, it was still boring every morning to have to wait for her.
As she stood up and announced that she was ready to go, Daggerfang jumped to his feet and eagerly headed for the front door, picking his saddle up carefully in his mouth and holding out to her like a dog holding out a ball to play. He tilted his head at her in the way that he knew she found adorable, internally rejoicing when she agreed to strap it onto him.

𝕃𝕪𝕤𝕤𝕒 𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Eyjolf was dosing slightly as he rode on the back of his faithful Nadder. A dark, sleepy aura hung like a cloud over his head, and Orest’s mood was no better. This was how they made their slow procession through the residentials; dragging themselves along tiredly on their way to prepare for a morning flight. It was as though neither of them wanted to, yet it was a daily ritual all the same, so they did it anyway.
It didn’t take long for Eyjolf to come out of his stupor, as his gleaming blue eyes spotted a Grim Gnasher ahead of them, and the familiar dark braid of Brynndis Estur. Her characteristic long hair was unmistakable, and at that sight, the viking shook his head to clear the dark cloud away. There were others here, and it was time to put on that friendly mask once again.
“Brynn~” He almost sang her name as Orest carried him to their proximity. He smiled a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, yet managed to beam down at Brynndis and her dragon with a welcoming and open expression. “How are you this morning?”
***
When Eyjolf had motioned Orest to walk in the direction of the other two, he merely rolled his eyes and did as he was told. His rider may have been an agreeable individual, but the Nadder didn’t care to exchange pleasantries with others. Still, as they came upon the two, he forced himself to glance at Daggerfang and give him the slightest nod in acknowledgment. He was an Epsilon, a lower rank, and Orest knew that it would be best to wait and see the other dragon’s reaction before saying anything.

Luca was walking back from the butchers. He had a few coins in hand from the meat he had sold there. The way things had worked out he'd just ended up getting some money for half the meat. The other half he had let Zero eat. The nightfury mix had eagerly snapped up the meat and was content. He acknowledged a few people as he passed, but when he noticed Eyjolf and Brynn he walked over to say hello "Hello!" he said in a sing song voice.
Zero padded after him, tail swishing slowly behind him. When Luca stopped close enough to chat with the two other riders he came to a stop by Lucas side. Luca patted his head in a friendly manner and focused most of his attention on the others in front of him. Zero greeted the two dragons brightly, never really the type to take standings to seriously. He had the disillusioned idea that he was already better than everyone even if he wasn't the one at the top of the standings around here. And when it came to racing, it wasn't too far from the truth.

Brynn patted Daggerfang's head briefly as they walked, pausing when she spotted Eyjolf approaching her along with Orest. "Good morning, Eyjolf!" she called back with a friendly wave, smiling broadly. "We're doing fine, just getting ready for a little flight. 'Fang here is eager for an adventure, aren't you, boy?" She gave the Grim Gnasher a scratch on his chin, and her partner made a noise akin to a cat's purr in response. "I was thinking about taking a lap around the outer islands, see if there's anything interesting going on. How about you?"
Her attention was pulled for a moment by Luca and Zera, offering a quick smile to them as well. "Hi, Luca. Successful morning at the butcher's?" she guessed, nodding to the coins in his hand. she reached over her shoulder and pulled her long braid over her shoulder, idly playing with it as she stood. She could never quite sit still, always needing something to occupy her attention lest she become bored or restless. Doing and re-doing her hair was a restless habit of hers, and she spent a good amount of time fussing with it.
-x-
Daggerfang was completely at ease among the streets of Berk, having spent his whole life on the island with Brynn. He greeted the other dragons with a warm smile, nodding his head in respect to Zero just to acknowledge the other dragon's rank. Though he was still young, he had a great deal of respect for the higher ranking dragons in his pack. "Good morning," he chirped in greeting, flicking his tail to his fellow Epsilon as a form of hello. "It's such a nice day out, don't you think? I can't wait to get out and fly around."

𝕃𝕪𝕤𝕤𝕒 𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Eyjolf gave a small chuckle at the interactions between Brynn and Daggerfang, giving them his full attention. Apparently Brynn was planning to fly around the outer islands to see what was going on. The truth was that Eyjolf had been planning to do the same, but for more recreational purposes rather than scouting. Leave the important jobs to his betters--he just wanted to feel the wind against his face as he flew and watched the sun rise.
He opened his mouth to voice this, but stopped when he noticed someone else approaching. Peeking his head over Orest’s spiky crown, Eyjolf saw that it was Luca and Zero. The graceful dancer was quite recognizable, not only from his general demeanor but from the Nightfury hybrid that always accompanied him. Eyjolf couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous. With a dragon like that, it was no wonder Luca was often the center of attention.
“Hello,” the viking said pleasantly, fixing his eyes on the two newcomers with a soft smile. They appeared to have just come from the butchers.
***
At Daggerfang’s query, Orest merely uttered “Quite,” a simple word in agreement, but not enough to initiate a lengthy conversation. He had never been good at socializing with his own kind, or any kind for that matter. Especially not now, as he was too busy eyeing the Nightfury hybrid as Zero approached. The Nadder leaned his head forward and sniffed, his yellow eyes narrowing into slits. “You smell like meat,” he huffed, not even trying to mask the jealousy in his tone.

"Yes, I had a little competition and decided to sell the meat we caught." Luca replied, keeping himself from going too far into his actions. He did that often and had been told how annoying it was "What are you guys up to? Something important I'm sure." Luca didn't like just standing around so he was glad to have run into more people to chat with. Zero, in the background was more than happy to flaunt the fact he'd gotten to eat and said "Yes, I did all the hunting so I deserved it." Luca wasn't aware of it, obviously, but Zero and him talked a lot alike.

Brynn smiled at this, shaking her head. "Oh, no, nothing too important," she replied. "Just my usual patrol, and maybe a little further just for fun. 'Fang loves to visit the faraway islands, it's closer to where he was hatched." Her hand continued to rest on Daggerfang's head, though the dragon didn't seem to mind, too focused on his own interactions with his fellow pack members. Being a rather small breed, it was typical of him to sit with Brynn like this, his head level with her shoulder. Brynn petted him idly as she spoke about her daily duties. "My job goes by pretty quickly, so after we make our rounds and make sure everything is alright, we usually do a bit of exploring. Maybe someday we'll discover someplace new."
-x-
"Lucky!" Daggerfang gasped, worming his way out from under Brynn's arm at last. "Fresh meat really is the best, but Brynn usually only brings back whatever the hunters caught in the morning. We're not exactly hunters ourselves, after all." He chuckled at this, slightly embarrassed at his own lack of a skill that was typical of all dragons. His domestic upbringing had hindered him some when it came to things like this, though he usually didn't care much for tradition of instinct.

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 After a directional pat of the viking’s hand on Orest’s scaly hide, the Nadder shifted his position so that Eyjolf could better see the other two while still sitting atop his dragon’s back. He pulled his feet up to where they were planted on the saddle, bringing his knees up to his chest and resting his head on his knees. It was a relaxed position, a sign that he was fully engaged in conversing with the other vikings.
“Your job?” Eyjolf’s blue eyes fell on Brynn momentarily. “What is your job, exactly? Both of you.” He glanced back and forth between Brynn and Luca, directing the question at both of them. “Tell me all about it.” The small man had quite a habit of trying to get others talking, to know about them as much as possible. Collecting intel was his greatest hobby, and might have been the only thing he was good at. Other than his marksmanship.
***
At talk of fresh meat and hunting, Orest’s spiny tail subconsciously whipped itself around his feet, much like a cat when focused on something interesting. He was actually itching to go out and hunt right now; while his few years of domesticity had weakened him somewhat, his natural instincts from a time in the wild still surfaced to his mind every now and again. “Well, good for you,” he muttered quietly in the direction of Zero, his tone riddled with resentment. Which was probably a bad idea, considering the Nightfury hybrid’s rank. But Orest tended to ignore the hierarchy at inopportune moments. Especially when confronted with jealousy and hunger.

"My job?" he thought about it for a moment, for show of course, before smiling and making a flashy movement "To be a star." he was technically part of the riders group, but it was rare for them to be called out "I also do some shows here and there when I need some extra cash. Fire, knives, and flying always gets people excited." as if to prove his point he flicked his hand and a short dagger appeared in his hand. To make his shows more dramatic he had learned slight of hand and wasn't afraid to show it off. Luca was a 'star' in every sense of the word. The pair loved to show off.
Zero flicked his tail proudly and huffed "It was good for me. It tasted delicious." things always tasted better when you worked for it. Zero had the work ethic of a maniac, along with Luca that made them self destructive at times "I'm sure you guys could go do some hunting, it's still early in the day." though they wouldn't be nearly as flashy as he had been.

Brynn laughed at Luca's showy personality, always a fan of charismatic and confident people being one of them herself. "Well, some people call me a "crusader"," she replied, placing a hand on her hip proudly. "You know, like an adventurer, or a discoverer. Someone who goes places and finds things. 'Fang and I fly all around Berk and the island on our maps looking for new things. Sometimes we even go past the borders of the map looking for something totally untouched by vikings!" She began to sound excited as she described her job, hands moving emphatically. "Of course, it's not every day something new lands at your feet. We see a lot more failure than success, typically."
-x-
Daggerfang tilted his head at Orest's obviously put-off tone, sensing the other dragon's anger but deciding not to bring it up lest he open himself up to the larger Nadder's ferocity. "I'm not a very good hunter," he admitted, pawing at the ground briefly. "Never have been. Maybe it's because I grew up on the island. It's not so bad, though. Flying's way better than walking, after all."

𝕃𝕪𝕤𝕤𝕒 𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 At Luca’s vainglorious display, Eyjolf couldn’t help but give a small chuckle and an applause. “Fire and knives, huh?” he said, lips set in an amused smirk. “Sounds dangerous. And exciting! You should totally put on a show for us sometime.” The comment had the slightest undertones of a taunt, as if he were challenging the other.
Then he turned his attention to Brynn. “What you do sounds exciting as well. It must be fun to go out exploring rather than hanging around here all day.” The viking leaned forward a little in interest, careful not to fall off the saddle he was sitting on. “If you ever need a scouting partner, I’d be happy to accompany you.” It would at least give Eyjolf something productive to do.
***
“Well, that’s something we can agree on,” Orest commented flatly in Daggerfang’s direction. His anger had subsided a bit, replaced by a more stoic demeanor. “Flying would certainly be better than standing here all morning.” His ruffled his wings slightly. “I would rather be flying over the forest right now.”

"Oh I can and will." Luca said, jumping on the taunt without hesitation. Since he was so full of himself it was easy to get him with taunts and challenges "And scouting sounds like fun. I'd be willing to come with to, if you happened to go when I was free." Again, Luca got bored if he did't have anything to do. Zero nodded in agreement, pulling himself away from the conversation with the other dragons for a moment to let his own opinion be heard.
Turning back to the other dragons he said "It sounds like they might do something." he shrugged "And you can learn to hunt. Though you might never be as good as me." few could match his speed and skill considering all the practicing he did. It had become a bit of an obsession and everyone could tell it might work against the pair one day.
