never too late to help! we're just figuring out general zoo layout now, but if you can think of anything to add we'd love to hear it!

CreamCrow we'd be happy to have your help! I think we're pretty good on locations for now, so maybe you could help us work out the whole "rules" of shapeshifting thing.

Hi! This looks interesting, so is there anything I could assist you with? I have some experience in running roleplays myself, and I like to think of myself as creative.

For the shape shifting rules, are you thinking of keeping it pretty cut and dry? Like, from this time to this time you must keep your animal form and you must stay in the enclosures.

OoC :: Right! I'd love to help. On that, is there so far a basis of the animals? Like, are they only able to transform into one animal? Also, would there be multiple of one type of animal as well or is this preferred to have different type of animal for every character?

Great, I'd love the help!
So for rules of shapeshifting I was thinking you could only shift into one animal. So like you could be a bear shifter, but you can only turn into a bear. The shifter gene is recessive, so if a human and shifter have a child it's probably going to be a human. Children of shifters don't need to be the same kind of shifter as their parents so like, a bear shifter could be born for a lizard shifter and a wolf shifter and that would be fine. I'm fine with duplicates and like, I think I'd prefer having more than a couple of wolves and such. That being said, variety is cool too, especially for birds and reptiles since we have houses for them. I was thinking that staying in one form too long will make a shifter sick, so it is highly recommended that after the zoo closes they shift back into human form to avoid this.
But those are just kinda basic ideas rather than fleshed out things.

Are you going to limit spots for more popular animals or make some kind of rule to make sure there's variety instead of having 50 bear and wolf shifters and like 2 lizard shifters? I mean maybe it wouldn't turn out that way but I could definitely see some people trying to stick with like bigger more well known/fun animals, especially with past experience seeing/joining certain rps

Hmm I don't think I'll start out with any solid limitations, but like, if it gets really bad then I'll probably say something. I'm just against outright setting a limit because I feel like it deters people from joining.

You could always close joining for a specific type of animal as soon as you feel it has hit the maximum.

Oh yeah that makes sense too
Another question: Are shapeshifters going to be different levels of strength based on their animals? Or more respected? Or higher up in the 'hierarchy'? Or are they all pretty equal?
Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure I'm yjinkint of everything how you want it to be

So I was thinking it wouldn't be that big of a factor. Like it more comes down to experience and their human form. Like you could be a mouse shifter and burly af for all I care. If that makes sense?

Are you also thinking that their experience will affect their shifting abilities as well. Like a younger shifter will not be able to hold their animal/human form as long and will have to be more careful?
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Aug 27, 2018 16:33:32 GMT -5
I mean, yeah definitely. So like when they're about 3 yrs old they start developing their shifting ability, but it's really uncontrollable and sporadic. They're more in control of their powers around 5~ so they can be put out for short times and under supervision. That being said, while elder shifters have more control over their shift, the age does transfer over to their animal form.

Ok, good to know. So I had another question. Have you decided why the shifters are being hunted? Or is that not going to be important.
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Aug 27, 2018 16:38:46 GMT -5
Yes. So a small portion of shifter hunters (they need a cool name tbh) are seeking them out for scientific purposes. They want to study why they shift and how much stress it takes for them to switch out of their animals forms, stuff like that. However, the majority hunt them for their pelts. Rumor says that if you kill a shifter in their animal form and take their pelt/skin, then as long as you have that you can shift into that animal. So if you kill and skin a fox shifter you could shift into a fox yourself.

What's up guys? I've been looking up reference images for these characters and finally got up the nerve to look up a black mamba image. Please no snake bites for me.

Oof I've been bitten by a snake before 0/10 would not recommend. Thankfully it was not dangerous and I am still alive haha

Yeah it's not fun, hence the reason I hate looking up snakes. You know at least one of the top results is going to be one of their bites.

Snakes have always freaked me out... luckily they aren't very common around here. I don't think I've ever seen a snake unless it was someone's pet

I like snakes, i just hate blood. I'm only really unnerved around venomous ones for obvious reasons.
So what characters were you thinking about making groupe?

Post by . on Aug 29, 2018 16:46:02 GMT -5
See I've never had a problem with blood even though I know a lot of people do? I want to be a vet and wanted to be a doctor for a while
Ugh I have too many character ideas... I want a sea lion or penguin for sure. My capuchin monkey boy would be fun... I thought an ocelot would be cool. I am not good at making decisions

those are fun! I also was thinking of making a sea lion, maybe they could be friends or something.
I have ten because I don't know when to stop. I have a cotton top tamarin, african elephant, king of saxony bird, lion, fennec fox, zebra, black mamba, north american river otter, california sea lion, and giant anteater.

I haven't had the time to look into many animals, but I know for sure that I want a wolf and some kind of bird.

Post by . on Aug 29, 2018 16:53:50 GMT -5
Yeah I'm not sure if I want a sea lion or penguin but whichever one I go with can definitely be friends with your sea lion!
I think the most characters I've had in one rp was like 28 or so?? I try to make only a few but creating characters is so much fun I may do some kind of wolf or fox character? A giraffe? A bird? Idk I have so many ideas but I know for sure I'm doing a sea lion/penguin, a capuchin monkey, and an ocelot and then definitely a fourth because I like keeping my genders even
