Berkley Zoological Society appears to be your normal zoo. Located in rural Arkansas, the facility is surprisingly large, and holds many rare and endangered animals. Visting hours are 10am-6pm on weekdays, and 9am-8pm on the weekends. The zoo itself pulls a decent crowd, with visitors from out of state coming to see if the rumors of phenomenal shows and exotic wildlife are true.
However, Berkley Zoo is anything but normal. It is the largest collection of shapeshifters in North America, a haven for the now dwindling population. The shifters of Berkley Zoo know the rules. Stay in animal form during visting hours or risk losing their lives.
You see, shapeshifters have become targets as of late, as hunters hear rumors of their strange abilities. While some want to capture and research the rare species, most people hunting shifters are after the rumored abilities of one of their pelts.
For fifty years, Berkley has been a carefully guarded secret, but as more time passes the occupants of the zoo can't help wondering how long their safety will last.
Alright so lately I've been wanting to make a shapeshifter rp, and I thought it would be hella cool to make it take place in a zoo. All the staff and animals would be shapeshifters thus keeping the true nature of the zoo (being a haven for hunted shifters) a secret. Idk I just thought it would be a fun idea. Anyone interested?

I think this sounds really cool! What did you need help with??

Hmm I was thinking the highest thing to tackle would be the layout of the entire zoo. So like how everything's arranged and what not.
Also if you have rules for shapeshifting or any other ideas, feel free to share them! I'd love to hear what you have!

Yeah, I'm still down for this. It was a kind of spur of the moment idea, but still seems hella fun.
I think the first things we should cover are
○ the zoo and it's layout. Where everything is, basically the "map" portion ○ rules of shapeshifting. I have some general ideas but hammering them out would be nice. ○ plots. Again I have some in mind, but anything you can bring to the table would be welcomed! ○ zoo hierarchy. I know that like, the ones in power get to be the zoo staff and have free reign over when they shift during the day, but I think a full hierarchy would be nice to have written out.
These are just starting things, but we can start with whatever you'd prefer guys!

So for a zoo layout as could take inspiration from some real zoos? I could pull up some references of actual zoos around the world and we could use that as a starting point?

Yeah, that's a cool idea! I'm thinking we could separate it into four major quadrants and then a staff area. Then maybe we don't need to make an actual map of it, but we can just make a word picture.

Zoo Map inspiration
Smithsonian National Zoo: St. Louis Zoo:
So this one is kinda like how I wanted the quadrants to be. You have themes for the area that connect to the animals inside.
Lincoln Park Zoo & Brookfield Zoo (Chicago Zoos):So I put these together because they're from the same area. I was originally just going to put Lincoln Park, but Brookfield is apparently both bigger and better so? I like the idea of having like, reptile and bird houses therefore the zoo can have a larger variety of these species without raising suspicion. Then these are also on the "top 25 zoos" list I was looking at. I'll comment if I like any new things, but really these are more here for layout inspiration.
San Francisco Zoo again a good reference for the divided segments: Bronx Zoo: Denver Zoo: Cincinnati Zoo:

Those are all some pretty good maps.
I feel like we should decide what animals we want in the zoo? Then we can start deciding which animal would go into which quadrants and it’ll be easier to divide it up?

Hmm okay here's what I'm thinking.
○ big cats (you're lions, tigers, snow leopards, normal leopards, etc.) ○ bears (polar, grizzly, black, sun, again wide variety that could fit into this category.) ○ wolves and foxes ○ reptiles ( I was thinking of having a reptile house, so we can allow people to join with a variety of these species.) ○ larger birds like flamingos, peafowl, and eagles ○ smaller exotic birds (I was also thinking of having a bird house for the same reasons as the reptile house.) ○ petting/children's zoo (I was talking to drea in pms and she mentioned wanting to have a petting zoo area for the more common/household shifters. So like goats, cats, dogs, rabbits, maybe a horse or two. It would also have exhibits for more local animals to help teach kids about the animals around them.) ○ Elephants and Giraffes (just cause they'd be really cool shifters.)
○ Gazelles and other hooved mammals
○ Primates (maybe even a primate house? so like both apes and monkeys?) ○ Penguins and other coastal animals(seals, sea lions, maybe even dolphins?)
○ Maybe a small mammal area for like otters, meerkats, rodents, and the like. (We could maybe put foxes with them too?) ○ hippos/pachyderms house
If you guys think of more let me know. My biggest goal for this is for people to feel 100% open to making their shifters be able to shift into rare and unusual species, hence why I'm trying to keep these pretty vague.

a pachyderm house might be good because then you could join with like elephants or rhinos or hippos and stuff. but the rest look good!

Though I do have one suggestion
Maybe a place for more typical animals? Various types of squirrels, maybe some opossums/beavers, other types of critters like that?

I figured we could fit those in with small mammals? I'd also assume like squirrel/chipmunk shifters would be allowed to roam the zoo outside of enclosures because that wouldn't be too suspicious? Otherwise there'd probably be a spot for them either in the petting/children's zoo or small mammals!

Hey . we'd love to have your help!
So did you guys have any ideas for quadrants? I have a rough draft in mind, but it might take me a minute or two to write it up!

Mkay so here's what i have (The ones in italics I'm not a fan of where they are. So if you have better ideas, I'm up for hearing them.):
Quadrant 1: ○ petting/children's zoo ○ small mammals?
Quadrant 2: ○ big cats ○ bears ○ wolves ○ primates?
Quadrant 3: ○ hooved mammals ○ pachyderms house ○ elephants and giraffes (I mean technically these would be filed under both hooved mammals and pachyderms but i just wanted to be clear!)
Quadrant 4:
○ exotic bird house ○ larger birds ○ reptile house
Bonus Quadrant (I guess this means their not quadrants anymore )
○ seals and sea lions ○ penguins and coastal creatures ○ dolphins

Is there an aquarium type area? If so maybe there could be another section of the zoo that holds the aquarium along with penguins and coastal animals? I can see why it wouldn't work but I figured I'd throw that out there

Hmmm I was thinking about it, but I was sort of on the fence. If you feel like it would be a good addition I could add an aquatic section too.
Where the other two fine where they were or....?

As for the other stuff you had, I couldn't figure out anything better than where you put them
