{{hmm, maybe this is his first jousting match since he decided to fake knighthood? My girl is sitting in the crowd watching the squires introduce their knights and his opponent rides up to her and starts flirting with her and your guy notices her for the first time? If you start I can get a face claim and make an rp profile for her }}

Jocelyn fanned lazily at herself as Princess Mary giggled loudly at the Lord who had sat down beside them during the first match of the day. Her light green eyes roamed across the empty list field as her friend happily flirted with the overly friendly man, knowing soon enough the royal guards would make him leave their box. Leaning forward, she watched the heralds in amusement as they announced the next event, each trying to outdo the other. Lazily twisting a single daisy between her fingers, Jocelyn sighed, longing to return to the comfort of the palace where she didn’t have to worry about Prince Edward getting killed during the tournament while under the guise of Sir Eddard or listen to another knight swear to win the tournament for Mary. Those prideful knights came bearing gifts of flowers and handkerchiefs for the princess who happily excepted their tokens of affection, so much so to the point that the chair beside the Lady in Waiting was filled. Jocelyn wouldn’t mind except for the fact that immediately after pledging their love for the princess, they’d wink at Jocelyn and keep their eyes glued to her after their joust. The Princess was coveted but untouchable whereas Jocelyn was more accessible to these ignorant men.
“Joss?” Mary implored softly, grabbing her friend’s hand gently. “What’s going on in that mind of yours?” By now the Princess had dismissed the man, more interested in what had captured her friend’s attention.
“These matches have become dull, Ree.” Jocelyn said, smiling fondly at her childhood friend as she squeezed her hand back. “I want something more exciting.”
“One more match and we’ll leave. Ed is done for the day.”
Jocelyn smiled at Mary but felt herself groan internally as one of the knights rode up to them. “Lady Jocelyn, this match shall be won in your name.”
Eyes wide, she glanced at Mary who grinned widely and quickly took the rose from him before asking for her shocked friend, “And your name, my good sir?”
“Sir Neville of Wessex, my princess. I have travelled the world and never seen a more beautiful woman.”
Laughing incredulously, Jocelyn looked away as Mary spoke animatedly to the man. As he rode off to prepare for the match, Mary squealed and clapped as she shook her friend. “That was exciting, was it not?”
Shaking her head, Jocelyn fought off a smile as she turned to watch the match. “It’s idiot. This man came here wanting to win. If one truly wished to prove himself to a woman, he would lose for her.”

This was Oswyn Greystoke's second jousting match.
Or rather, Sir Richard Devereux's second jousting match.
It hadn't been long since the young squire had stood in for the knight he worked for and, surprising himself and the other squires, had defeated his opponent. They'd demanded that he fight more - no doubt hoping to have a cut of Oswyn's winnings for themselves - and had faked documents claiming him to be a French noble.
As he and his opponent - a certain Sir Neville of Wessex - were announced, the young man couldn't help but notice the other male had approached the princess and her lady in waiting, pledging his allegiance to Lady Jocelyn.
He had noticed the princess and the lady-in-waiting at jousting matches before when he was simply a squire, but he'd never paid too much attention to them. Hadn't been allowed to. Too much of his attention needed to be devoted to the knight and his horse for Oswyn to be staring at girls. After all, if he messed up he would lose his pay (or worse) and he wouldn't eat. He had more important things to think about.
But suddenly, he was looking at Lady Jocelyn as if for the first time. She was truly beautiful, breathtaking. For a split second, it was as if his heart was ashamed to beat.
He deliberated for a moment over whether he should talk to this young lady. He wasn't sure he could, wasn't sure if he would mess it up or if he was too shy.
Oswyn Greystoke might be a little shy, but he figured that Richard Devereux wouldn't be. He sounded like a confident man. So he, too, rode up to the pair. He dipped his head first to the princess, and then to Lady Jocelyn.
"Lady Jocelyn," he began "I have no gift to give, certainly there is no gift worthy of you, but I also fight in your name."
He didn't know what consequences this would have, whether this would encourage Sir Neville to cheat. Oswyn was fairly sure already that his lance was longer than regulation, but he couldn't be certain. And he wasn't sure if Lady Jocelyn would welcome his compliments or if she was even vaguely interested in him.
[Gosh I hope this is okay I'm sorry I kept you waiting so long. I feel like this reply might be a little underwhelming]

“Would you care if I were ugly?” Jocelyn asked before looking at the man. Her eyes widened slightly as she met his gentle gaze and her thin eyebrows narrowed briefly as she tried to recognize his face. The tournament had begun yesterday but she had no recollection of seeing him face to face. Perhaps she had seen him in France last summer for the jousting tournament. She did recognize the name, however, the prince had gone on and on about his impressive fighting technique. Edward had said he’d never seen a knight before not shield his eyes, they always tended to look away at the last minute to protect them. Edward had joked and said that his eyes must be marble and not even God could scratch them. Yet she had never met softer eyes than those of the knight before her. It was how sincere his gaze was that caught her attention. He seemed to genuinely care but she shook off the ridiculous thought and asked another question to mask her surprise. “Certainly you must, otherwise you would not have ridden over here and announced you were fighting in my name, would you?”
“Joss, play nice.” Mary whispered, giving a polite smile to the knight in front of them. “He’s gorgeous and he’s got eyes for you.”
“Relax, Ree.” Jocelyn whispered back, not letting her eyes leave his. “I know what I’m doing.”
Turning back to the man, she cleared her throat and said suspiciously, “Lord Devereux, you are the first knight to not promise me a win. Whether that is because you are humble or because you are shite at jousting, we will soon see.” Glancing down at her own scarf she had been fiddling with, she beckoned the man forward and said, “I wish you the best of luck. Also, Lord Neville always aims for the left shoulder so if you were to roll it back, his lance would glance off and your own would break much harder against him.”
Mary’s eyes grew wide and she said, “You’ve gained my Lady in Waiting’s attention, sir. Use it wisely.”
”He hasn’t gained anything, I’m just feeling generous.” Jocelyn corrected quickly before smiling gently at the man. “You have kind eyes and Neville is a cheat. He uses a much longer lance and is only in this because his father is good friends with the king. I’m just....evening the playing field.”
