Niko was already up and moving for the day. She had a coffee in one hand and her phone in the other. Currently she was speaking to a model that worked for her agency. This particular one had been causing some problems and Niko truly was losing her patience. Keeping her voice level she said "One more move like this and you'll have to find a new agency." before she ended the call and shoved her phone into her pocket. Models, so dramatic. She thought this, ignoring the fact that she to used to be a model. Currently she was sat in a local Cafe. Their coffee was good and she had needed a coffee break.
The wind ruffled Sokeris feathers as he sat perched on a tall building. Currently he was on the hunt for a unfaithful partner. As usual, the hybrid would do almost any job given the right price. That could vary from finding a cat to taking out a lose end, and not in the date sort of way. Yawning, he watched the people mingle below him, his enhanced sight following anyone who caught his eye. He ran a hand through his hair and shifted into a more comfortable position.
"Come and get some fresh fish, caught just this morning!" Avi called, voice loud and clear over the general murmur of the crowds. She was at the docks selling the morning catch. It had been a good day for fishing and she wanted to get everything sold. Avi was working along side her coworker who was a seal hybrid. Unlike other humans, she had nothing against the hybrids and could mostly keep up them. Not to mention they were helpful on the boat.
Cen stood and stretched. He just finished one of his classes of the day. He had one more today, but some time in between the two classes to relax. The tall ears on his head twitched as he walked out of the room, listening for anything and everything. He had a bag on his shoulder and his left hand was wrapped with bandages, and injury from a fight earlier this week. There were some other students around, most absorbed by their own work. I have some characters open as well. Everyone here but Cen is open.)

(Alright!)
Chester sat on a weather-worn dock. His fishing pole tucked in his hands, it wasn't the best-looking thing in the world. It was held together by silver and black duck tape. But its bobber was far out in the cold water. Its red and white body still. Chess sighed quietly. He had been out here for hours and the only thing he had caught was seaweed and funny looking eel that nearly bit him when he was trying to wrangle the hook out of its mouth. Chess sighed and flopped onto his back. The weatherworn wood felt nice on his back. "I should have eaten that eel." He mumbled to himself.
Jade hauled a heavy-looking box down the street. Her arms wrapped around the dirty boxes side. The box seemed to be full of bits and parts of all sorts of things. From motherboards to an old looking vcr and a wad of tangled wires. Jade had a long day ahead of her but she looked rather chipper. She had a skip in her step and a smile on her face. Today was a great day for the young tinker, nothing could go wrong...until she tripped. Her box scattering its contents across the sidewalk. She quickly got to her feet apologizing to passersby as he started to gather up her mess. She hummed quickly as she did so. Like i said nothing could bother Jade on this fine day.

Ranger Barslim Type 2 Shifter Hybrid
Was it sad that he stuck around for a good fifteen minutes after his friend had left to continue his job? Maybe, maybe. But it wasnβt as if Ranger actually had anything to do today...or any day for that matter. Maybe he should get a job, after all, now he wasnβt working at home alongside his brother and his father. He had some money saved up of course, but for the most part he was kind of leaching off of his friend. It was a wonder Ozzie hadnβt kicked him to the curb yet.
Maybe it was time for Ranger to look for a job. Heβd have to look into that later, maybe see what places were hiring around here and apply. Just because he wasnβt a go-getter like Ozzie was - the guy was working around two or three jobs, Ranger had lost count by now - but he hardly considered himself a couch potato either. He could help out, he was good at some things.
Now, Ranger would have likely stayed there, staring down at his coffee cup as he thought of ways he could help out for even longer, had it not been for the entrance of a beauty into the cafe. Ranger lifted his eyes up from his cup of coffee to watch as a dog-horse hybrid got herself something to drink, a smile tugged at his lips. My, she was pretty, wasnβt she?
All thoughts of getting a job and helping out were soon pushed to the back of his mind, only to resurface much later in the day, by the sight of a lovely, familiar dog-horse hybrid entering the cafe. Ah, Talulah whatever-her-last-name-was. Ranger had only really met her once before. However that would soon be remedied as she made her way to him. As soon as she was close enough, Rangerβs tail began to wag. He wouldβve tried to stop it, but he couldnβt even if he wanted to, his tail had a mind of his own. Besides, there was nothing wrong in βsubtletyβ letting the pretty hybrid know he was happy to see her once again.
βWell, howdy there Talulah, didnβt think Iβd be runninβ into you again so soon,β Ranger greeted her, gesturing for his fellow dog hybrid to take the seat across from him. βIβll have you know though, that I am not a scoundrel,β he added, placing a hand on his chest as if he was personally offended by the very statement. βIβm from Texas, thereβs a difference,β he explained, sending her a crooked grin as he reached for his coffee and drank some more out of it. By now it was almost gone. Shame. He would at least have to make it last long enough to strike up a conversation with the pretty hybrid. βYou come here often?β Ranger asked, gesturing his head around towards the cafe before he looked back to Talulah, offering her another smile. He was charming after all, that meant no rushing right into flirting. He had a tactic and it worked. He wasnβt about to mess it up now.

Cressida Walters Type 4 Hybrid
Cressida didnβt look up from her book even as Sorreni came back to the penthouse. She had known her twin sister had left, it was only natural to assume she would find her way back with coffee. It was appreciated of course. Cressida was not ashamed to admit that she had a bad tendency to survive off of caffeinated beverages. It wasnβt healthy, but it kept her awake and thatβs what she was aiming for here. βMorning Sori, no, I did not take a nap,β Cressida admitted absentmindedly as she read through the last few pages of this βchapterβ in the book.
Speaking of which, when asked what she was reading, Cressida responded by holding the book out for Sorreni to see, though the book was still upside down. βGreat grandfatherβs biography. Itβs our history, you should read it sometime. Our great grandfather was there for some of the most incredible things. This book traces far enough back to the very first Chamo appearance, itβs history,β Cressida explained passionately, finally closing the book as she reached a good place to stop.
Holding the book close to her chest, Cressida unfurled her large, pink and gray wings as they shot up from her back, and just like that she let go of the bar with the tail and began to fall to the ground, wings catching her just in time so she could fix her position and land safely on the ground. Once her feet were back on the floor, Cressida folded her wings back up and brushed some of her long black and pink feather mixed hair out of her face and looked to her twin, smiling at her as she held out the book. βItβs just so fascinating, I donβt know why more people arenβt interested in this!β Cressida explained, grabbing hold of the coffee Sorreni had for her to take a gulp from it.
It tasted a little off, but it was still good enough. βThis is good, did you get it at Hummingbird?β Cressida asked Sorreni, already walking towards their kitchen where she placed the book and the coffee down. Quietly, without saying anything, Cressida opened the lid to the coffee and took it off, placing it on the side. She took a few more gulps of the coffee before moving to the fridge and pulling out a Red Bull energy drink, which she then quickly poured into the coffee cup, stirring it around for a few moments before deciding that was good enough and placing the lid back on top.
Walking back over to Sorreni, Cressida took a drink out of her further caffeinated coffee. βSo, whatβs the plan for today?β

Nero Marley Type 1 Hybrid
Great, now he had ran into someone. Nero quickly backed up, hands in the air as a sign of surrendering, his tail was puffed up and twitchy, as if he was agitated. Which honestly, when wasnβt Nero at least a little agitated? Something always seemed to put the cat boy on edge, even if nothing was the matter at all. Quickly, he shook his head in reaction to the stranger, taking a few steps back. βGah, Iβm so sorry for running into you, I didnβt see you there and I just ran straight into you, please donβt be mad...β Nero said hurriedly, words almost slurring together with how fast he was speaking them.
It took Nero a few moments, but soon enough he seemed to realize he wasnβt in any immediate danger in front of this man, and relaxed, just a little. The fur on his tail smoothed back out and his ears perked back up as he looked at the other man. Nero gulped, forcing himself to calm down at the reassurance he wasnβt in danger right now. Actually, now that he was truly able to look the guy over, he seemed sorta nice. Though, Nero firmly believed that everyone was nice until proven otherwise, it just so happened that sometimes they were proven to be not-so-nice rather early on.
Luckily, that didnβt seem to be the case right now. So, Nero smiled, offering the other man a shaky nod of his head. βHello there,β he greeted, having calmed down by now. βI feel like we got off to a bad start, Iβm Nero,β the cat hybrid introduced himself, placing a hand to his chest as he smiled up at the strange man. Hopefully, Nero would be proven right this time and the gentleman would be nice, or at the very least polite enough to tell Nero to buzz off in a nice way. Though Nero didnβt really expect that much from him, nor would he blame the man if he told Nero to go away.

Malcolm Lennon Type 2 Hybrid
Malcolm had somehow found himself at Seagull Docks of all places. It wasnβt like the young, adorable hybrid had anything against the place, however if he had chosen a place to go, it would certainly not have been the docks. However desperate times lead to desperate measures and this was a desperate time. No one in the center of the city would help him, no one would even listen to him, and the police were useless. It would be up to him to find his sister, and that was exactly what he was going to do, even if he had to fight the entire world to do it.
βCan someone help me? Iβm looking for my sister!β Malcolm called out through the crowds of people, though, considering he only stood at 4β10βc it was easy to over look the incredibly small teenager. βIβm looking for my sister, sheβs a poodle-hummingbird hybrid, I have a picture, please can someone help me?β Malcolm called out again, standing on the tips of his toes to seem taller and hopefully look through the crowded area. Maybe he was grasping at straws, and maybe this was useless, but Malcolm had to find his sister. He just had to, she was missing and someone had to find her and no one else was going to do it for him. The world was unreliable like that. You ask for help and they do nothing but push you down even further. Malcolm was running out of options. He had to find Pixie.
Pacing in a small circle, Malcolm fluffed up his tail, trying not to show how anxious he really was about all of this. However, when no one even seemed to care about him or his sister, Malcolm couldnβt help but grow annoyed and angry. βYou know what, youβre all awful! I hope you all know that youβre terrible people! I need help! I- I need my sister, and all any of you care about, are yourselves!β Malcolm spat out angrily, cheeks puffed out in anger. Maybe he shouldnβt be making such a public display like this, maybe he shouldnβt be throwing a temper tantrum, but he was lost and alone and had been for over a week now. Malcolm didnβt know what to do, and by now, all that was left was to fight until he cried and then cry until he felt better. So that was exactly what he was going to do.

Pluto Rokkett Type 1 Shifter Hybrid
Well, she couldnβt find either Nero or Yan, wherever those two were, but Pluto wasnβt about to sit around all day and wait for them to make money. They had to pay Cipher by tonight, and Pluto was determined to make sure they had enough to sate the casino owner. Even if it all fell on her to save their skins, Pluto would take it in strides and find a way to make some quick cash.
Which right now involved stealing things from people as a ferret and hurrying off before she could be caught. So far, all the ferret shifter had managed to find were some wallets and a pack of unopened gum. Not a lot, but it would add up. It had to add up. Or at least that was what Pluto was going to tell herself to stop herself from spiraling into a Nero worthy panic attack. No one needed that right now.
Standing up on her back legs with her paws in front of her, the shifter sniffed the air, scanning through the crowds in search of another wallet or something like that. She twitched her nose a little, whiskers twitching as well. At first she couldnβt spot anything, and even after a few more moments of searching, Pluto still wasnβt having any luck, however she had spotted a man that was off fishing close by, and he seemed to be by himself, perfect. It wasnβt money, but it was food and if they didnβt have to pay for food that meant they could save more money to give to Cipher and maybe they could live to see another day. So, with that in mind, Pluto got down on all four feet and scurried her long ferret body over towards the man, sniffing around in search of finding any fish. If she did get caught, she could easily pretend she was nothing but a simple ferret, and most likely, she could make an escape, it was a foolproof plan.
Or at least thatβs what Pluto thought.

Jemima Blythe Type 1 Hybrid
Keeping up the brisk pace to keep up with her human boss, Jemima clasped her hands behind her back, keeping them together as she nodded along to Maynard. βOh no, Iβm in no rush, besides, this is the sort of thing I feel like we must talk about in the office,β Jemima told him, her tail swishing behind her.
Everything done here was for the bettering of hybrids, that much was common knowledge for everyone. Jemima had no doubt in her mind that whatever they did here was for the best, and she would keep to that belief until the day she died. However...there was also no denying that some of the things done here might be considered just a little...sketchy. Nothing bad, of course, everything they did here was for the benefit of everyone else. However if seen by the public eyes, or even by those who werenβt as high up in the labs, some of the operations they had happening on the down low might appear wrong in the eyes of the ignorant.
Jemimaβs mind flashed to the girl they had below, a recent test subject, the poodle-bird had only been there a week and already she was showing promise. It might be considered morally wrong to pluck people off the streets like this, some might even call the process barbaric and inhumane. However they were only doing what had to be done for the benefit of the entire world, Jemima could stand behind that, and she would. Besides, it wasnβt as if they were taking anyone important from the streets of Moreaunnian City, they were merely taking a few, random, unimportant people - both humans and hybrids alike - and offering them a chance to better the world around them. Surely no one could find fault in that.
...Even still, it might be for the best if they held off on telling anyone else about it.

Chester watched the clouds for a long while, his rod still clamped in his hands. He had spent way too long here and he was now getting antsy. But he was still hungry and he didn't feel like raiding dumpsters tonight, it was smelly and there was a chance someone would see him and he would get the cops called on him...again. Chester sat up in pure frustration. He looked back out into the ocean, his bobber still lay still on the salty water. He was just about to throw his rod into the water when his sensitive ears picked up on something. The sound of tiny paw steps on the old weather wood. He turned quickly his eyes quickly picking out the small furry creature. Maybe he could have ferret for dinner, he had had worst food in his days of being homeless. He narrowed his eyes. Then suddenly they was a tung on his line. He quickly turned his gaze back to the bobber. It was under the water now. Chester began reeling in his dinner. In seconds he had reeled it up and placed it on the weathered wood next to him. It was the eel again, but this time Chester didn't mind it was food at least.

Maynard Skarovski Human
The smile on Maynard's face faltered a little as she spoke, but he did his best to hide it. Slowly he nodded, glancing at her. "I see, of course. We'll talk in private then," he said as he continued walking. Although he tried to keep it unnoticeable, it was still clear to see by his quieter tone and his half smile that he wasn't entirely happy about what it was that she was implying she wanted to talk about.
The look was of course justified however, as it was something a lot of people wouldn't like, even hate, and he was no different. It was the subject of human experimentation. Human and hybrid alike were taken from the streets. Yes, while May knew that it was to better the lives of everyone else in the world, and this was the quickest and easiest way, he simply still despised the idea. It wasn't up to him though, there were reasons he wouldn't, couldn't try to stop it. No, instead of calling problems by doing that, he simply did his best to let Jemima handle that side of things. She was better at that part then him. That being said, if it was required to go down for whatever reason, he would. He didn't want anyone to know he didn't like it, and he was still the boss after all. As far as he knew though, Jemima was the only one who knew. They did live together as a couple after all.
After a few short minutes of walking, the two arrived at the glass door that led to his office. Going inside, May politely held the door open for Jemima, and closed it again when she was inside. "Okay, so what are the notes you have?" He asked, pushing up his glasses. As he spoke he made his way to the other side of the room, putting on the lab coat that was hanging up. Yes, if they were a couple, why didn't they discuss things like this at home, where it was certainly more private? While although they did sometimes do that, most of the time the two tried to keep work at work. At home they were a family. Though to be expected, with the jobs they had, that was a little difficult to do. They were scientists, and especially at the level they were at, work sometimes didn't stop when the working day did.

Pluto Rokkett Type 1 Shifter Hybrid
Quickening her pace, Pluto soon made it to the man and began to sniff around for any sort of food, however it didnβt appear as though this guy had actually caught anything yet. Well that was disappointing. The small ferret crinkled up her nose, standing back up on her two back feet as she used her front paws to swipe at her face in an attempt to get rid of the smells of eel, salt water, and whatever this guy smelled like. However her efforts were made in vain and the shifter soon gave up, instead returning to all fours as she sniffed around. Maybe this guy would have something on him and she could at least steal his money.
So, Pluto sniffed around him quietly, trying to go unnoticed by the stranger as she focused on her search for money, food, or anything else they might help her and her friends out. However, sadly, she must have chosen the worst possible person to approach today, this guy had nothing. Nada, zip. It was disappointing, but oh well, Pluto would just have to go off somewhere else in search of something that might help.
The ferret scurried a few feet away before a smell hit her nose like a storm. Pluto pauses, getting back up onto her back legs to sniff the area. Eel. It wasnβt ideal, but it was something, and Pluto could probably find a use for it, maybe she could sell it for some quick cash or fry it up for Nero and Yan to eat. Or maybe she could throw it right at Cipherβs ugly face and they could make a run for it.
One of those options ought to work...though probably not the last one. Either way, Pluto was desperate enough to try. So the ferret shifter got back down on all fours and shot back towards the man with the fishing rod, making a grab for the eel as soon as she was close enough. It was risky, and possibly stupid, but Pluto didnβt seem to care. Some risks were worth taking if it meant saving the lives of her two best friends.

Jemima Skarovski Type 1 Hybrid
Jemima could tell Maynard didnβt quite like this, though she couldnβt blame him for that, she had never been fond of the whole thing either. However she had to remind herself that it was for a better future, a future where her daughter could grow up in even better conditions than there were now. That was who Jemima was doing this for, and also perhaps the only reason she had managed to stick with it for as long as she had. Saskia and Maynard meant everything to her, and if the work they did here offered the people she loved a better future, then Jemima could force herself to power through it.
Besides, they really needed the money and if they were to fail Capucine that money they had would be gone, and that couldnβt happen. Without that funding they wouldnβt be able to continue any of the work going on here and Jemima couldnβt sit back and let that happen. So instead she pushed through it all with her head held high and a belief that what they were doing was for the best. It was the only way to find any sort of way around the guilt doing something like this.
For now, Jemima pushed those thoughts into the back of her mind as she followed her husband into the office. Here, he was her boss and Jemima would treat him with the sort of professional respect she was supposed to.
Sitting down in the chair across the desk, Jemima pulled out the holographic pad she had been using before and quickly scrolled through a few different pages before settling on a few specific notes. The notes she needed to discuss with Maynard in private. The notes about the...test subjects.
βAlright so we still havenβt quite made any advancements in our attempts to create the perfect hybrid, however with the help of some of our newer...helpers, I think we could really start improving in certain areas,β Jemima started, showing Maynard her notes. βThe team we have working on this project is doing everything they can to make sure itβll work, however itβll still take time,β Jemima paused for a second, tapping the metal sides of the pad. βHave you heard anything from Baker-Adams yet? Weβll need her here at some point to follow along the process...β Jemima explained tentatively.

Chester had just unhooked the small eel when the sound of small running paw steps made him turn. It was the ferret and it was coming in hot. Did he really want to fight a ferret for a small stinking eel? He didn't have anything to cook it with and he wasn't about to have sushi for dinner. But it was food and he had spent all day fishing on the docks. With one quick movement, he jerked the eel away from the ferret, grabbed his fishing rod and leaped to his feet. He pointed the fishing rod at the ferret, almost like he was fencing, but his rod was a sorry excuse for a sabre. He glared at the ferret the eel still clenched in his fist. "Alright, you little demon noodle." He hissed under his breath. "I want this eel as bad as you but unlike you I cant go into the forest and scavenge for acorns and mealworms." Chester held the eel above his head, the eel wiggled and writhed in his grip. "So if you want this eel you have to get past me first." Chester waved his fishing rod, hoping he was getting the point across to the ferret. He didn't even know why he was talking to the ferret anyways.

Avi was packing up her equipment when she heard a voice over the usual chatter of the crowds. After working here for so long she was sure that this was something out of the usual. Tilting her head curiously she watched the crowds until she saw someone through them. He was yelling about something and looked quite irritated. She turned to her workmate and said she was going to go check on something before she walked over to the hybrid and said "Hey, you alright kid?" she tapped him ever so gently on the shoulder, hoping that she wouldn't scare him or anything. He looked like he was ready to break down and cry at this point. Avi felt bad for him and wanted to know if she could help out at all.

Dakota watched the other man with an amused smile as the cat hybrid quickly let loose a tumble words from his mouth. He shook his head and chuckled lightly. "I'm not mad." he said to him, the smile still on his lips. Hopefully his words will help in trying to calm him down a little bit. This hybrid seemed like he was just a big bundle of nervous energy. Maybe his more calm demeanor could help with that.
Well whatever it was, something seemed to work in calming him down as he noticed the other hybrid physically relaxing with his tail smoothing out and his ears perking back up in interest. It was cute in a way, and he thought about telling him so, but he decided against it. He'll keep his more flirtatious nature under control until later, when this other cat hybrid wasn't so on edge. He wouldn't want to scare him away or anything, especially when he intended on keeping this conversation going past introductions.
Dakota watched Nero as he introduced himself, with his tail lazily swaying back and forth behind him. "Well, it's nice to meet you Nero. I'm Dakota." he said as he introduced himself as well. "And you're the only one here that things are off to a bad start. There are worse ways of meeting people." he added.

Maynard Skarovski Human May knew the idea of experimentation on human subjects was something that didn't settle well at all with Jemima either, but bless her heart she pushed through it. For her and their daughter Saskia, May did do his best to do the same. He wanted nothing more then to make the lives of his wife and daughter easier, so if that was what it takes, then so be it. Still, the human scientist did wish that he had the same sort of determination to push through this that his wife did. He did try, but the nagging thought that it could be destroying someone else's life just wouldn't go away. Definitely something that worried Maynard too, was about Saskia. He did fear what their daughter would think of them if she somehow figured out what they were doing. Of course at her age everything was fine. She likely wouldn't even be able to process what it's about, but it was more in her teen years and beyond that worried him. It was a thought that May was honestly yet to share with Jemima. He didn't really know why exactly however. Maybe because he knew it was something he didn't want her to worry about. They had a few years yet before something like that could even happen. Although something that was definitely a more immediate threat was that of Capucine, which was another very major reason neither scientist tried to-do stop any of the experimentation. They couldn't risk Capucine pulling out her funding. That was what kept the labs going after all. Despite the one questionable, but still for the better part, the labs did a lot for the people of the world, to make it a better place. It wasn't worth it, to risk everything they were doing. Everything was far too important. That being said, that was the only reason he personally put up with the woman. Other then that, May really didn't like the crow hybrid. Maynard walked over and sat down in his own chair as he listened to Jemima read, looking over the notes as she showed them to him. "Time, understandable. Do these new advancements make it any clearer to pinpoint a deadline, or is that still remain vague?" He asked, tilting his head. That was something that always eluded them. The fact that they could never really tell when their research and study on that subject will come to a conclusion. At Jemima's question, May blinked, shaking his head. "Unfortunately no. I've been trying to contact her, but you know how she works. She does things her way, and in her own time," he said, huffing slightly. Clearly she was not his favourite person. However he heard Jem's change in tone and he took a breath, calming himself a little. "If she continues to remain absent much longer, we may need to continue without her." πβππ π£π
