There was a sharp crack followed by the deep rumbling of old, rotted wood collapsing on itself and crumpling to the ground. Nick's startled grunt was easily deafened by the loud noise, as was the sound of his frantic back peddling away from the unstable structure. He dropped down into a crouch and covered his eyes, shielding them from the debris and dust kicked up into the air. When the all had settled, he lifted his head slowly again but remained crouched as he surveyed the scene. The building he had approached was now distinctly lacking a door frame, among the missing windows, walls and pieces of roof. An additional part of the neighboring wall had crumpled as well as a chunk of what might have once been the floor of a second level to the building, but any part of the structure that had once stood tall was completely gone, leaving only the first floor of it. Though his face was hidden and no one was around to see, he scowled deeply anyway. Every man made structure had taken a severe beating my the rising sea levels, but wooden ones seemed to fair much worse than their stone and metal counterparts. 'Doubt there will be much wor-'
"I don't think we're gonna find much in this pile of drift wood. Actually I think we can see most of the building through the hole you just made anyway!" Liss exclaimed, her voice a dry cheer that interrupted his thoughts but mimicked what he was thinking regardless.
"You're supposed to be keeping a lookout from a distance."
"Three feet is a distance. Not that I could see much with the amount of dust you just threw around."
Nick let out a long sigh and stood up. He tugged his glasses off, squinting heavily as he rubbed them clean of dust and listened to his Liss's pessimistic commentary. "I don't think we have much of a choice at this point - we'll have to move on. Food's running low and I don't see us finding much more worth trading in this neighborhood," she said, eyeing her partner in crime suspiciously when a small smile curled his lips as she spoke. He knew this area from before the apocalypse, and what she just casually called an insignificant neighborhood was once a city that boasted a population of over 100,000. He wondered if any had made it. It didn't matter now; They had been in this area for weeks, maybe a month, and had picked it clean. She was right.
"Let's head back towards Alcatraz and see if we can find someone to trade with along the way. If we get the food we need we can try and head further north," Nick announced, pushing his glasses back on and tugging his bandanna back up around his face. Liss snapped her hand up to her head in a mockery of a salute for confirmation then hopped away from the debris, her sniper shifting ever so slightly on her back from the movement. Nick snorted out a short laugh then followed suit.

Mark was by a building near the dusty road where Hosa is sat. The building was run down but some stuff in it may be valuable and that is all he could hope for as scavenging gave him things to trade for food, temporary shelter, or water, basically anything he needed to survive. As he was scavenging Lu chirped beside a pile of rubble on the ground obviously trying to get his attention. "Something there Lu?" He asked the the bluejay it chirping in reply. So he began digging the pile and found a small spool of copper wire. Must be an old hardware store. Score. Was his thought as he picked it up and put it into his satchel not his backpack as his backpack was where his cat slept, of course the bag is somewhat unzipped by at most an inch so it can breathe but he didn't let it out of the bag in case of dangers. After putting the spool of wiring in his satchel he rubbed the radiation burn on his wrist, it beginning to hurt once again and soon he was looking around the ruined hardware store for more things to trade.
(longest starter i have ever posted XD)

Alexander weaved his way through the ruined buildings of an abandoned part of the old city and found a place to sit on a couple steps leading up to one of the buildings' doorways. He pulled his bag off over his head and grabbed his canteen from inside, taking a break to have a drink before he moved on. He was heading East was all he knew with nowhere specific in mind.

Nick took the lead of their two man group, walking at a relatively slow pace out in the open. He made no effort to conceal himself or his foot steps, trusting in the system that Liss and him had developed. When travelling, one would take the lead, drawing any attention of passing people and giving the impression they were alone. The other would trail behind with the sniper, watching over the leader from high points and shadows, remaining unseen. As the years had passed, they had fallen into the routine of Nick leading and Liss scouting, as she was quieter and he was stronger.
Nick whistled a soft tune as he walked, though it was severely muffled by the bandanna covering his mouth. Casual as he seemed, he kept a sharp eye out for any signs of people, friendly or otherwise.

Will do! Sorry I poofed, had to be social for a while)
Hosa suddenly stood up, gently pushing Viola off. "Not time to sleep yet." He muttered, peering out of the shadows and checking the sun's position. He guessed it was around midday, just past, in fact. He would find shelter and rest at dusk. He picked up his scythe and patted Viola on the head. "Let's go girl." As they headed down the highway, they came across multiple cars, either abandoned or with the unfortunate passengers still sitting in their seats. Or at least what was left of them. Hosa rummaged through their pockets and bags, looking for anything of use, but only found small things like a tube of chapstick and a blanket, which had been wrapped around what he assumed had once been a baby. Normally he would stop and take some wires out of the car, or search for cans of petrol, but at this time of day it was too hot to stay out in the open for very long, least of all in a stuffy, broken down car with a bunch of skeletons. He stuffed the few things he had scavenged into his bag, but held onto the blanket, and continued on towards the few small buildings he could see.
Fiona sat on the edge of the road, sharpening her knife. She had found shelter in the shadow of what must have once been a cottage, but had now been reduced to a crumbling brick wall. She knew she was exposed, and she hated it, but at least she was protected on one side. Occasionally she let her eyes drift to the road, checking for people or vehicles heading her way; she wasn't planning on letting mercenaries catch and kill her today, or any day, in fact. She was sure she had seen a figure in the distance, but it was far enough away she didn't feel the need to worry about it. Yet.

After looking around a bit more Mark sighed. All he found in the abandoned hardware store was the copper wiring and an old printer which he had taken a circuit board from. "Come on Lu let's go find some water and food. I think I saw an abandoned motorcycle earlier so maybe there is something." At least he hoped but when he stepped out he stopped dead in his tracks. A chicken was stood by the abandoned motorcycle. Well maybe I just found lunch for Mae and I. And maybe the motorbike has seeds or something Lu would eat in the bags. So he drew his dagger and cut the chicken's head off watching it run around before dying and he searched the saddlebags of the bike to find an old packet of trailmix. "Perfect!" He said as he put the trailmix in his satchel and grabbed the headless chicken by the neck carrying it before stopping again and eyeing what seemed to be a figure moving between a few abandoned cars holding a blanket which he guessed the man had scavenged.

As he neared the buildings, Hosa stopped and swung his bag off his shoulder, shoving the blanket inside. He glanced up when Viola gave a small yip of warning, and he hurriedly put his bag back on and held his scythe in a defensive position, his left hand holding the wood closer to the blade and his right hand near the bottom, the handle crossing in front of his body. He scanned the street carefully, his gaze starting on one side and crossing over, finally resting on a man with a… was that a blue jay hovering above his head? The man held a headless chicken in his hand, and his stomach growled in time with Viola, who had taken a menacing step towards the stranger, lifting her lip in the hint of a snarl. Hosa glanced down at her, putting his leg out in front of her as a signal to remain still, knowing she would very quickly attack if he instructed her to, and often with very deadly results. He looked back up at the man, then placed his weapon on the ground and lifted his arms in a gesture of surrender, placing himself defensively in front of his companion. “Don’t try to hurt her.” It wasn’t only just for fear of Viola’s safety, for although bullets would stop her, she could rip his throat out before the man reached his gun; he knew this after seeing one or two people try to grab her, likely for their next meal.
I just noticed you linked this RP in your siggie, thanks heaps!)

Mark raised an eyebrow at the surrender, did people surrender now a days? He didn't know as he'd been gone from the city for a while not really wanting to go back there as the people were not usually the nicest to him...a scavenger. "I would not hurt your dog even if I wanted to. I may be a scavenger and loner but I do have morals." He called out before sheathing his dagger in it's holster a sign of trust and somewhat of surrender showing he was no threat to the man or his dog. "Lu onto my shoulder please." He told the blue jay before whistling so it understood this was a command and Lu happily obliged and sat on his should chirping at the man with the dog. "What is your name stranger." He called out as he eyed somewhat weary but knowing that all it took was one draw of his pistol and he'd be out of harms way in no time if the man was more foe than friend.
(thought it could use some publicity. it is a great made roleplay and deserves success. and if it doesn't we could always make it into a two-three person roleplay cause i wouldn't mind honestly though more people make it more fun.)

Sera | Serafina Smith | 25 | Female (She/Her) | bisexual/romantic | | Mother: Angie Smith (Deceased) Father: N/A | None, really | Two elegant, yet threatening daggers which she keeps sheathed at her hips unless in use | Serafina is a tall girl, standing at about six feet one inch. She can typically be found wearing a tank top with some sort of jacket unless the heat is unbearable, in which case she would tie it around her waist. Her hair would be seen as an off-white color, usually surprisingly well-taken care of, and in a sleek ponytail, along with gentle facial features and pale blue eyes. She's usually wearing flexible pants of some sort, and sturdy combat boots. She seemed to be built to survive, with a lean, yet muscular build. One radiation burn rippled down her this side of her neck, while another stretched across the underside of her arm like a snake. | She is always quick to anger, and always on edge, prepared to attack in an instant if she sees the need to, sometimes even if not. She has few relationships, and horrible people skills, preferring to ignore their words and watch how they move, if they flinch when she unsheathes her daggers, etc, in case she must fight them. | Her mother died due to dehydration. She had lied to Serafina, because they were low on resources, saying that she drank enough water, while Serafina was in desperate need. Serafina did not get the chance to save, for she was gone before she knew what was happening. She never knew her father. She has never dared to trust anyone, scared that they would either die on her, or betray her. In her eyes, she's only made it this far by sticking to being alone, and to either kill, injure, or scare someone to get past them. Serafina is very skilled in combat, as well as hunting, although she often finds herself in situations where she needs to still. However, she rarely does. But she cannot stand spiders in the event that she crossed paths with one. | @/blaisie

Nick's casual stroll slowed even more when he spotted someone perched at the side of the road up ahead. A slight frown crossed his face and he tugged the bandanna covering his mouth down. His previously casual whistle became much louder, with three distinct high notes. After that it lowered again and he pulled his bandanna up, eyeing the figure as he approached it. His hand inched downwards to the holster strapped to his thigh, but his tone was rather friendly when he called out to the seemingly alone person, "You gonna start shooting at me?"

After a few more minutes of rest he stood up from the stairs and tucked his canteen back into his bag. Alexander started downt he road to where it met an old highway leading out of the abandonded town. It wasn't likely many cars would pass by but he kept to the side of the highway as he went just in case. He always glanced behind and around himself every few minutes to make sure no mercenaries followed him.

Nick laughed, deep and heartily, and spread his hands in a 'you got me' gesture. He tugged down his bandanna again, this time all the way down his face so it rested at the base of his neck. He partially turned back in the direction he came and put his fingers to his mouth, letting out one long whistle then pausing and making the same loud note again.
Liss took only a moment to come jogging up, an expression on her face that looked like she could spend the next three years complaining about her partner. Not that her face was very visible - Nick would know though.
"I don't suppose you've got any temperamental friends lurking around?" Nick inquired, clearly bemused by Liss's partially hidden but displeased face.

Mark hesitated at the question but then. "My name is Blue." He said using his alias around people he didn't know fully then he raised the dead chicken to show Hosa. "Wish to join me for lunch?" He asked looking between Hosa and the dog. Good thing the chicken was decent size definitely could feed Hosa, him, Mae and the dog. "If so come on." Then he walked off to an area with dried plants far deceased and good for fire starter.
Soon the chicken was plucked completely and ready to be cooked and that is when he open his backpack all the way and taking his siamese cat, Mae out and setting her on top of the bag. "Looks like we get a decent lunch today Mae." Then removing the trailmix pack from his satchel opening it and pouring the contents into a small dish he also pulled from his satchel before setting it down for Lu. The blue jay happily began to eat the trail mix.
(Mark is so pure XD. loving his animals so much.)

Hosa sat opposite 'Blue', Viola lying beside him and still watching the trio warily. He had wrapped his arms around himself and rested his head on his knees, eyes darting around nervously. For all he knew it could still be a trap, but he guessed he was just being paranoid. He finally broke the silence between them after watching Blue with his pets, admiring how caring he was. "How long have you been alone?"
Fiona laughed. "Nope. I'm alone." She tilted her head to the side, inspecting the pair. "Where are you headed?" She finally asked, wondering if she could travel with them, or at least for a little while.
Sera, briefcase strapped to her back, left Stephen to scavenge what he could from an abandoned house and decided to scout ahead and check their route for dangers. She held her pistol out in front of her as she checked inside various broken down structures, then, finding nothing, started down the highway, glancing inside the occasional abandoned car for supplies.

Mark was cooking the now plucked chicken over a small fire. Not too big the smoke can be seen from far away but big enough to cook the chicken well. "A while now." Was all he said in response to the question but he glanced at Hosa. Something about him made him curious and well it made him feel comfortable, a feeling he long forgotten when his family died. "What about you Hosa?"

"Not a place in particular," Nick replied, "Just looking for somewhere to restock on food then picking a new direction. We picked the last town we were staying in clean, so anywhere new is good for us."
He chose to keep his intentions of finding a permanent group for Liss to himself. Partially because he didn't completely trust the stranger and partially because his young partner would likely pick a fight about it if he brought it up right now. Liss seemed to notice him withholding his full opinion but made no comment on it, instead turning to Fiona.
"What about you?" she inquired, her voice intentionally lower than it had been with just Nick and her sentences much shorter and void of her playful nature.

It's a bird! It's a plane! Nope, it's just leobloise. You're welcome to join if you like) "A few years, I guess. I don't really keep track of time." Hosa lifted a hand to brush a few strands of hair out of his eyes, smiling softly. "I found Viola just after I left the shelter. Some people were going to eat her, I convinced them that it was pointless, as she was just a puppy, and gave them some cans of food and a knife instead." He looked down at the dog, who was gazing up at him lovingly, and rubbed her ears affectionately. "It was the best trade I've ever made." Fiona pursed her lips, thinking. "I'm headed North, to Alcatraz. I have some... Things, to trade. There are some small towns on the way, although, like most, they aren't particularly accepting towards newcomers." She shrugged. "They'll have supplies, and they aren't out of the way. You can come with me if you like."
