Especially for the original series. It just feels... wrong. Maybe I'm just partial to the first series and the original covers for nostalgia reasons, but I just feel like the older covers are classic and better. They portray the series feelings better in my eyes. What do you think? Of course any of you have right to agree or disagree with my opinion, but let's keep it at a calm discussion if possible ^^

I really loved the new OS covers. The TNP was okayish? It just seemed to be a bunch of close ups on the cats. Also loved the first two of the PoT but the rest were okay. The last four of OoTS also great with the other two being okay. I love these covers just as much, if not more, than the original ones.

And the ones we have so far with DotC are all great too. TAQ was okay. For some of them I do wish they were depicted differenty. For instance, I wished the Eclipse had the cats cowering in fear or running away as the eclipse was occuring. Or a beaver being in The Fourth Apprentice cover.

Personally I don't ever get the point of re-doing covers. Like, why don't you put the time and money into oh I don't know, better editors?

The new covers are beautiful pieces of artwork. However, it`s just not right that when my little sister downloads them from the household Amazon Cloud, she sees them instead of the carefully formulated, context-providing original covers. FYI we have to call it "The Prophecies Begin" now too

The older covers were carefully thought out and had context. The one that bothers me most is the Darkest Hour cover. Where's the lion? Why is that huge, amazing image that was one of the biggest driving things not on the cover? But I digress owo' I'm entering rant-territory. On a brighter note, I quite like your user name ^^ Makes me think of fiery lightning lighting up a thundercloud!

Why, thank you! =^-^= (see what I did there no okay) It`s supposed to also sound cool to peopee outside the fandom. For a while, my forum signature on some things was "Adele set fire to the rain, but I made it cool." Facepaw. I personally - and we`re on thin ice over deep water here - don`t think the lion was really that significant. It had symbolic resonance, yes, but it was only a paragraph. "Let`s have a drink. Oh, convenient Lion King moment is convenient! Thanks, StarClan!" It just seemed like such a cheap way to do it. And...breathe. Now, to leap back out of RantClan territory, I`m gonna go ahead and predict that the new covers will be very popular. The art style, the detail, and the frugal use of text are the things I adore and hate most. Plus, win for Indigo Inkwell. That`s just clever. Tip of the hat to you

I think the newer covers have major spoilers for newer readers like yellowfang in the fire, greystripe in riverclan, and hollyleaf on the forgotten warrior. but i suppose they're going for more memorable scenes this time around.

Personally I don't ever get the point of re-doing covers. Like, why don't you put the time and money into oh I don't know, better editors? siq burn but actually, as someone who's put a fair amount of research into the design of the book covers for this series, I'd say that the originals are better. A large portion of the books' themes revolve around tradition, and the originals have that in spades. The ultra close-ups of the cats on the new ones makes me uncomfortable. Or that might just be me. Also, the focus on just one cat limits the scope of the cover. Rising Storm isn't all about Yellowfang, etc. The artist breaks away from this later on. Also, the prominence of the cat emphasises that these are cat books. Books about cats. Fluffy and cute, right? Besides, why not show more of the world behind them? It's the world that got a lot of people hooked, not the fact that the characters are cats.

I dislike the covers for OS and TNP. Everything else is okay though.
Supposedly the reason they made new covers is because the old artiest died.

I guess this is an unpopular opinion but I think the new covers look much better. The anatomy on the old covers was always just the slightest bit off and the new covers have a more "epic" feel to them while also having better anatomy and coloring techniques. The old covers will always hold a special place in my heart for nostalgia purposes though :3

I think the art is better but I just prefer the older ones out of nostalgia even though the new covers look really amazing. I used to try to "redraw" the original series covers in MS Paint or on paper when I was in middle school

I only dislike the ones for TNP due to how close the cats are that it makes it look unappealing and awkward and you could barely see the background. TPB is also a similar case, but at least the heads on most of the covers weren't as close up as the ones for TNP.

Its harder for me to tell who is the focus of the book with the new ones. They're pretty but to me all the covers blend together; they never seem to stand out from each other.

I don't like the new ones either, and I especially don't like it that they renamed the series. I'm probably not being fair, as I'm particularly biased toward traditional art (I DON'T hate digital art, please don't misunderstand), plus there was more feel to them, if you get my meaning. Aw, he died? I had no idea

❈ -- onestar's a great leader i still liked tallstar better tho
anyways, i think the cover's aren't that great. i mean, until DoTC and AVOS. I mean, close ups for eyes? Seriously?

Post by Dawnrose on Oct 4, 2016 18:43:12 GMT -5
The OoTS, DoTC and AVoS covers are cool, but the earlier series are just plain closeups of cat faces which isn't as interesting as a cover showing the full body of a cat. The OoTS covers are kind of just closeups too, but they have way more detailed backgrounds than some of the covers.
