I will tell you about how I got here. I remember little of the day I was introduced to life as an assassin. My first memory is of crouching in a dark hallway, flinching at the sound of my own breath. I was alone. I was twelve or maybe thirteen at the time, and I remember most distinctly the moonlight that drifted in from the far window. It was not a full moon, and yet I felt as though I was exposed. The light glared down on me like the judgement of God. But I knew what had to be done. My instructions had been clear. I was the only one who could fit through the window from down the stairs. It was my mission and failure would mean certain death. Even so I considered turning back. I brushed my fingertips against the nearest wall, stabilizing my small body. A cloud drifted between me and the moon. The hallway darkened. I rose, strode through the bedroom door, and silently killed the King's Commander as he slept in his bed.

To give a brief overview, this roleplay centers around a group of ten assassins. It takes place in a medieval setting, and in a rather dark and magical world. Our characters were scouted from a young age for their talent with magic and for their enterprising temperaments. After undergoing extensive training since they were small, each of them are incredibly deadly. Not only have some of them been forced to fake their own deaths for their families, but they are forbidden to have relationships beyond those in the group. It is a harsh and lonely existence. The group is sponsored by various powerful entities, all of which require them to perform tasks in order to earn money. Their primary goal is to eliminate any person who stands in the way of their sponsors' agendas. In other words: they are paid to assassinate important figures. This is understandably dangerous. Most assassins don't live far past the age of thirty five. Of course the assassins are not the only magical, deadly people in the world. Some with unimaginable power are hired by the most wealthy as protection. The plot of this story will revolve around the assassins attempting to wipe out anyone they are hired to, and facing stomach-turning consequences in the process.

The guild was originally created around forty years ago by a man by the name of Arturo. He was a sorciere whose rare specialty was using the power of tamir (energy warping) to kill without so much as touching his target. He was a deadly man and one greatly feared by all who knew his name. He was hired on several occasions to do the dirty work of lords in the capital city. As Arturo aged, however, he became selfish. He wished to have an apprentice to carry on his duties and to immortalize his name. He scoured the orphanages for children with the touch of magic. In doing so, he collected seven, each of very different backgrounds and skillsets. His greatest desire was to teach his skill of tamir to one of the children. Along the way, however, he developed the natural skills of each of the children, making them incredibly deadly.
The children soon grew into adults and Arturo realized that what he had created was essentially his own army. Merely by sculpting the minds of orphan children, he had amassed the power to wipe out anyone he wished. His old sponsors agreed to pay him a monthly wage to house and train his apprentices. In return, he would have them kill whoever the sponsors named.
Arturo continued to take magical children off the streets, no longer caring if they were orphans or poor or disenfranchised. His small army grew to a permanent number of approximately ten. He named the group the Raven's Guild, and it quickly became a silent but fierce force. Few knew its name, but those who did knew it was not to be meddled with.
Decades passed and Arturo grew more and more dissatisfied. None of the assassins showed an aptitude for the tamir gift he had become so infamous for. He died old and unhappy, but his guild remains to this day.

Magical people (sorciere is the most commonly used term) are relatively rare and although they aren't necessarily trusted by the general public, they are still accepted as an important aspect of society. Some are hired by the royal family as protection or make up specific branches of the army or offer healing services. The poorer ones are typically outcasts for there tends to be a distrust for magic folk. Magic offers a variety of abilities which, generally speaking, can be honed by every magical person. These abilities are broken into five categories:
tamir (energy warping) - Most magical people have the ability to slightly alter the energies of the people around them, usually by touch. This can mean making a person more alert or, on the flip side, more sluggish and tired. Those that are very skilled at energy warping can shift the energies of every person in the room without having to touch them, and can even render those around them unconscious. Commoners sometimes refer to users of tamir as "sleepers".
dyerre (animal communication) - This is one of the more difficult skills to hone. An average magical person might be able to vaguely communicate through "yes" or "no" questions with certain animals. The most skilled in this area of magic are capable of more detailed conversations. Some might even be able to shape shift, but this takes many years of practice and can be very dangerous. A more derogatory term for them is "wild-tongues".
ataima (telepathy) - Again, without much training an average magical person might be able to do minimal telepathy but only with people they know very well and only over short distances (a few feet). Those who are very skilled can communicate over greater distances (miles) and with more than one person at a time, even strangers. They might even be able to disguise those communications as that person's own thoughts. "Whispers" are what masters of ataima are referred to by commoners.
ogge (elemental control ) - This is the most diverse of the areas of magic for each person typically only has a touch of one element (out of the four; water, air, fire, water). A person lightly touched with fire, for example, might be able to light candles without a match. Magical people with extensive training in elemental control will be able to control that one element with greater efficiency and technique. For example, a person very trained in water control can redirect entire streams. Other names for them depend on the element of use but they are typically along the lines of "fire-hand" or "earth-hand".
sahte (sensory manipulation) - The final category of magic relates to changing a person's perception of the world around them. A lightly trained person might be able to slightly heighten their own hearing in order to eavesdrop. A very skilled person, however, can make people see things that aren't there. They can heighten their own senses and dull or even eliminate those of the people around them. "Tricks" is the more derogatory term both for those who use sahte and the act of sahte itself.
Now, although all magical people have control over each of those areas to minor degrees, it is important to note how difficult it is to learn magic. Very few are born naturally skilled in any given area. In order to hone just one skill, it can take decades and only with the help of a highly trained mentor. For this reason, most magical people only ever have the most basic of magical skills. Our characters, the assassins, have all had rather extensive training. Either they were scouted by the original members of the assassin group and trained from a young age, or they found other training due to wealth or other circumstances. Even so, each member of the group is only highly skilled in one of the areas, the one they had the greatest aptitude for when they were young. They might be able to perform other magical tasks, but not to the level of skill or magnitude as in their area of expertise. They all likely have one or two areas where they are particularly weak as well.

Arturo was very clear about wanting all of the assassins to live in one place. Mostly this was because their training required hours and hours of every day, and there were no better sparring partners than themselves. He also knew quietly that what he had created was an entirely isolating community. All the assassins had was each other, and so it was important that they stay close. His sponsors agreed to paying for a building that would not draw attention and whose customers would not take notice of suspicious activity. That is how it was decided the assassins would live in the upstairs of a pub. The pub is called The Donkey's Brew and it was chosen specifically for being close to the center of the town. The pub itself is run by two brothers, Bernard and Hugo, both of whom are compensated for their silence about their tenant's line of work.
The pub has three floors. The first, obviously, belongs to the pub and the kitchen. The second floor is divided into two rooms, one of which is the training room and the other is a weapons and equipment room. The third floor, the loft, is where all of the assassins sleep. It is a dark room with only one window that contains several bunk beds in which the assassins sleep. The room is dusty, often too hot or cold, and it has rafters that taller assassins are known to hit their heads on.
Now, the city in which the assassins live is, fittingly, the Capital. It's most commonly referred to as Argonon but some lovingly refer to it as "The King's Outhouse" and other charming terms. It is not as large as some nearby cities, but it most definitely houses the most important figures. This, of course, is why the assassins have settled there. There are affluent parts of the city which are difficult to access, but the majority of those living in Argonon are quite poor. Important features of the city are the rooftops, which are quite even given the common architecture of the city. A few blocks from The Donkey's Brew is the Plaza, which is where venders of every kind can be found during the day. Favorite destinations of the assassins are The Gilded Wasp (a shop of herbs and potions owned by an old sorciere) and the forest outside of the city where they can go for some much needed privacy and quiet time.

Now let's get down to business, shall we? You can't have a good story without a plot.
Main plot: The assassins have found themselves in a rather sticky situation. Their primary sponsors, wealthy lords and noblemen, have long wanted the king and all his associates killed. It is no difficult task killing a king, and although there have been a few attempts by the Raven's Guild in the past, none have been successful. Lately they have been in contact with some of those closest to the king. Some of his most beloved mistresses have approached the guild, requesting that some of the princes and princesses in line for the throne be eliminated in order to clear a way for their own. The guild agreed, not realizing that in doing so they would become more entangled in castle politics. They now have connections on both sides of the king, and in any way the kingdom falls, it might be difficult for the assassins to recover from the mess they have created. Of course they must also face the immediate danger of assassination attempts on some of the king's most beloved people
Possible Side plots: (more will be added as we think of them)
- Three assassins have been assigned the task of first killing a noblewoman by the name of Freya Graine and then return her stolen possessions to the rightful owner, a powerful and terrible man who often sponsors the assassins. Their consciences must come into play, however, when they realize that Ms. Graine has done nothing wrong.
- Two assassins are captured in an attempt, and they find themselves in a highly guarded prison. Not only are they to face impending deaths by hanging, but the others must decide whether it is worth the risk to try and save them

Let's get it out of the way, shall we? Rules. As boring and unimportant as they might seem, there are a few things one should keep in mind before joining this roleplay. I'll try to keep it short, for at this point everyone understands most rules.
First and foremost, this is an advanced RP. I feel badly for having to expand on this idea, but I feel it important to clarify that if you are not used to writing upwards of 500 words per post, you should refrain from joining. I plan to write long posts. One of my pet peeves is when people who aren't used to roleplaying advanced join anyway and then do not meet the length of others' posts by a longshot.
Next, although this is a story about people who are trained to do violent and terrible things, one must remember the forum rules. The actual violence should be kept as minimal as possible. Also, please keep in mind that we mustn't in any way glorify death or the act of killing. Your character might not be sensitive to it any more, but please don't have them relish in it because that idea is a little gruesome for these forums.
Characters must be well rounded. Note that it is difficult to learn magic, and it is difficult to learn the skills they practice. It is also difficult being a good person. Moral flaws, emotional flaws, physical flaws, are what make characters interesting.
Because there are limited slots, please refrain from claiming more than two slots. I would even prefer if you kept it at one. This is a small group RP, and it would be great if we could fit in more than five people. Also! If you are going to claim two slots please, please do not make two characters of the same gender. This is just annoying because it further limits others' options when joining. And it's always good to keep the genders even.

Every group needs a leader, someone to stand up, take charge, and make a decision. They are the most practical, experienced, and mature member of the group. This makes them the most naturally qualified to take the responsibility of the team on their shoulders. Male. [Glow]

The brains of the group, without a doubt. They plan most assassination attempts to the team, relying on their smarts and ability to be one step ahead of any potential competition. They're masters of manipulation and tactics and the leader's right hand man. they're brilliant but a little mad, if we're being honest. Male. [Blue Blood]
- the veteran --
Tough, experienced, and scarred. they would be an ideal candidate for leader, easily surpassing most everybody else with their skill. They're one of the best sources of mentoring or seasoning the less experienced assassins. Extremely reliable and arguably the backbone of the group. Female. [Rivermagic]
- the healer --
Although possessing little in the way of raw strength or offensive combat ability compared to the others (they are, however, certainly not a weakling and can hold their own), They excel at healing. Stay on their good side, because the healer's exactly the person you want to like you if you're bleeding to death. Female. [Paladin?]
- the sage --
Despite not being the oldest of the group, this person is incredibly skilled with magic. One of the few to be born with a natural talent. They are also wise in surprising ways, although their young age occasionally manifests in the form of pure ignorance. Female. [Crescent] - the secret weapon --
This person was trained personally by Arturo, and the mentor did not live to see the apprentice fully grown, he perhaps would have been proudest of him. The secret weapon is extremely dedicated to his skill. He is the one the others look to when things get absolutely dire. Male. [Cloudy] - the vixen --
They certainly live up to their name; being attractive. They also fulfill the "female fox" part rather well, being very wily among other things. They're crafty, clever, and cunning with a naturally sly nature. It is, however, not unknown for them to be too clever and they will sometimes "outfox" themselves, so to speak. Female. [Glow]
- the outcast --
Perhaps this person is not quite suited for the line of work they've fallen into. They're more soft-spoken than many of their assassin counterparts, and the idea of killing has begun to take its toll on this naturally sensitive person. Male [Gamergirl] - the flirt --
If you're looking for charisma, this guy has it. They are a charming fellow and a likable one. They have their fair share of problems, as do all of the assassins, but ultimately they are one of the most enjoyable to be around. Male
- the cynic --
This person is one of the toughest of the bunch. They understand the nature of what they do, and there's no use in crying about it. They get the job done when everyone else is being too sensitive about it. Female [Nevermind]
- the Romani --
If you need a poison that could wipe out a small country or simply some incense to make the room smell nice, this is the person to go to. They know all about the old wive's tales, spells, and potions. Female [Win]
- the prince --
The assassins come from all kinds of backgrounds, and this person has perhaps the most interesting. He is the son of a very wealthy merchant and had a privileged childhood which had an abrupt ending. My how the mighty have fallen. Male [lacie] - the wild card --
The more suspicious characters will not trust them one bit and rightfully so. They swing between teams with startling ease and why they're even in the group remains unknown. They're extremely reckless and unreliable, and their loyalty can potentially be bought with gold but they're so unpredictable, even that is not guaranteed. Male [Paladin]
