Hey and welcome, guys.
I may start writing little descriptions for the roles, Glow. Sure, the names are pretty self-explanatory but specifying never hurts.

Okay so basically "magical" people (we can come up with a better name for them) are relatively rare and although they aren't necessarily trusted by the general public, they are still accepted as an important aspect of society. Some are hired by the royal family as protection or make up specific branches of the army or offer healing services. The poorer ones are typically outcasts for there tends to be a distrust for magic folk. Anyway, magic offers a variety of abilities which, generally speaking, can be honed by every magical person. These abilities are broken into five categories: (we should come up with cool names for these too)
Energy warping - Most magical people have the ability to slightly alter the energies of the people around them, usually by touch. This can mean making a person more alert or, on the flip side, more sluggish and tired. Those that are very skilled at energy warping can shift the energies of every person in the room without having to touch them, and can even render those around them unconscious.
Animal communication - This is one of the more difficult skills to hone. An average magical person might be able to vaguely communicate through "yes" or "no" questions with certain animals. The most skilled in this area of magic are capable of more detailed conversations. Some might even be able to shape shift, but this takes many years of practice and can be very dangerous.
Telepathy - Again, without much training an average magical person might be able to do minimal telepathy but only with people they know very well and only over short distances (a few feet). Those who are very skilled can communicate over greater distances (miles) and with more than one person at a time, even strangers. They might even be able to disguise those communications as that person's own thoughts.
Elemental control - This is the most diverse of the areas of magic for each person typically only has a touch of one element (out of the four; water, air, fire, water). A person lightly touched with fire, for example, might be able to light candles without a match. Magical people with extensive training in elemental control will be able to control that one element with greater efficiency and technique. For example, a person very trained in water control can redirect entire streams.
Sensory manipulation - The final category of magic relates to changing a person's perception of the world around them. A lightly trained person might be able to slightly heighten their own hearing in order to eavesdrop. A very skilled person, however, can make people see things that aren't there. They can heighten their own senses and dull or even eliminate those of the people around them.
Now, although all magical people have control over each of those areas to minor degrees, it is important to note how difficult it is to learn magic. Very few are born naturally skilled in any given area. In order to hone just one skill, it can take decades and only with the help of a highly trained mentor. For this reason, most magical people only ever have the most basic of magical skills. Our characters, the assassins, have all had rather extensive training. Either they were scouted by the original members of the assassin group and trained from a young age, or they found other training due to wealth or other circumstances. Even so, each member of the group is only highly skilled in one of the areas, the one they had the greatest aptitude for when they were young. They might be able to perform other magical tasks, but not to the level of skill or magnitude as in their area of expertise. They all likely have one or two areas where they are particularly weak as well.

aa the magic stuff sounds great glo! i'll have a think about possible names - are you thinking things that sound more fantasy-esque or more english-based or something else? or maybe they have a more 'official' names but since the public don't quite trust them, they maybe have more colloquial [ or even slightly derogatory ] terms for them [ and the different types too ]? idk just throwing thoughts out there haha

sweeet here's a few ideas i'm throwing out~ i'm not sure how fitting they are?? just some thoughts haha edit;; OH and if it wasn't obvious, these would be terms for the magic users themselves, but the terms could probably be turned around to fit the verb for actual usage too c:
some of them relate to the more skilled / extreme abilities rather than the more average and common abilities of each type, but i was thinking maybe the people have stories / myths / tales about skilled sorciere from which the colloquial terms could have been loosely derived from? and then their general mistrust of sorciere would be reflected, given that their folk-tales might prescribe sorciere with more power than most actually have?
telepathy: whispers?
animal communication: spirits? wild-tongues? sorta struggling with this one aha
sensory: spectres? tricks?
energy: sleepers? valerians? [ as in the herb often used as a sleep aid ] - not sure about these as they only relate to one side of the abilities, but then maybe that fits in with the mistrust / fable sort of thing??
elemental: i'm struggling with a universal term to cover them, so maybe different-but-related terms for the different elements - for example, fire-hand? fire-touch? fire-bend? fire-heart? [ that seems like a bad reference on these forums lmao ] with the relevant element inserted
