Really feeling something actiony and medieval-ish, ideally with some combat and strife, at the moment and thinking knights might be the winner here.
My current idea (subject to change based on input) is a made-up world that's pretty much like ours in medieval times- so not really any magic or supernatural stuff going on, besides what the characters believe (so, superstition). Maaaaybe some kind of secretive, low-key "magic" type stuff at some point but probably not- if anything, the sort that still allows for skepticism, not full-blown "well I guess there is undeniably magic" stuff.
The roleplay itself I think would take place at a sort of training facility for those seeking to become knights of a well-respected order- perhaps not one that's super exclusive, but which is also not extremely easy to get into. This would give good reason for the characters to be mostly younger, have be in constant close contact with one another. It also allows for a great deal of strife and drama, between training, rivalries, romance, and whatever else you want to throw in there. And as they become more well-trained, of course, the occasional potentially-deadly situation, which would allow us to... cycle through characters.
Past all that, I don't really have too much planned out. Most of the other stuff is details- names of the order, kingdom(s), fort/camp/training area, hierarchy, some lore, and that sort of thing. I have some vague ideas but I would like to hear input from others before really settling on anything.
So, who'd want to help? Or even if not help, join at the end?

Maybe have them like chosen from birth or something? Like they were selected into this order from birth perhaps?

Hm... not really what I had in mind for the characters. Not a bad idea, but just not one for this rp I don't think.
I'm debating over whether the order should be, like, a military/royal guard for one kingdom, or a sort of united force from multiple kingdoms. I think I'm leaning towards the latter.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I'd also agree to the united kingdoms thing, that would be very interesting.

Yeah. If not any kind of official military force than a respected independent order intent on keeping the peace around, between, and within the kingdoms.

The kingdoms (or at least some of them) before I forget will be Itiria, Kinsuic, and Alverny.

Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I'd be interested in joining this once it's complete. If you need anything feel free to ask me. :3 I don't want to force any ideas on anyone so I guess I'll help by asking a bunch of questions about the details that have yet to be set in stone as far as I am aware. idk sorry for the long post I just like to ramble a lot I do like the idea of an independent order. I'm kind of noticing a parallel between this and the premise of For Honor. The Warden character in that is a member of the Warden order which is sworn to preserve the peace, and they send out individual Wardens to work with local lords and militaries when necessary. Will this order be kind of like that, where they sort-of loan out individual but highly skilled knights or small groups of knights to other places in order to work things out and deal with problems alongside the local forces, or will this order act independently with larger numbers of their order (small armies or the like) with or without the help of local forces to resolve problems?
Also, how realistic do you want to go with this? In the middle ages over here on Earth knights were restricted to royalty or exceptionally worthy (and exceptionally rare) commoners and generally only white cis/het males were knighted. Is that how we want to go or will other genders and/or races be allowed to train as knights? Or will it be a thing like it's allowed per the OoC rules but still looked down upon IC? This is a spot that has to be tread carefully because either way you're compromising something, whether it's realism or diversity. Personally I would advocate for all-inclusion in and out of roleplay which would differ from the real middle ages but in a good way, with less bigotry.
There's also the question of weaponry and equipment. Will we be going for late medieval as in plate armor, steel weaponry, crossbows, and early use of gunpowder (such as in cannons and Hwacha and the like) or more early to middle medieval with chain or partially plated armor, mainly iron (but some steel) weaponry, and lower-tech weapons in general? Will the order have a standardized color scheme and coat of arms or will each knight be responsible for their own standards? If the order has their own, what will the colors/coat of arms/standards be? (That last one would probably be related to the name of the order once a name is decided)
Will we be restricting knights to lances and shortswords (both on horseback) as they would be used in a real military or will they be allowed to choose their own weapons? Given that this is an order purely made of knights they would probably need to have a more diversified army instead of pure cavalry (like the real-world knights traditionally were) in order to contend with other forces on their own. However if they are simply joining other forces or loaning knights of their order to other militaries then they could (and probably should) be purely cavalry. It might be interesting if we did a compromise and all of the order's knights were trained in the traditional cavalry role, with lances and swords as well as training in horseback fighting, (so that they could fight well together as an organized force) but also specialized in another weapon of their choice (so that they could be useful when on their own due to their unique skills). Sorry if I got ahead of myself but I enjoy thinking about things like this and creating fictional universes and generally being a nerd in every way so hammering out all of the little details is probably the best way I can help.

Hey it's my favorite birb uncle (evidently). I'm glad you brought all that up, it's all things that will have to be decided upon. Some of it I've already considered and have a plan, while some will depend on what's decided on this page. I will try to address your questions in the order presented but it's entirely possible and even quite likely I will become side-tracked at some point.
First, about how they work in conjunction with the kingdoms. I was thinking that they would send out small groups as sort of specialized elite warriors for problems too small for the kingdoms' military and too unimportant for the royal elite soldiers, yet too tough for regular town guards. They would sort of be like government-sponsored mercenaries; they are accepted and even supported by the kingdoms, yet they generally work directly for the people rather than for the government itself. I think that of the graduated "knights" (or whatever they call themselves. They may not be true knights in every traditional sense of the word) there would probably be particular teams that would have certain specialties, probably consisting of 3-5 members each, including an elite warrior and a few who are less experienced. And though there would be many teams, they would all be capable of functioning as a small military or militia if necessary. Not sure on that detail yet, the hierarchy and precise functionalities of the order will be discussed later once some of the other details are settled.
On a similar note, however, I'm also thinking that I want to retract my prior statement that I don't want this rp to have any kind of magic. I think having the knights fight some mythological monsters (dragons, vampires, the occasional werewolf, etc.) would actually be cool, and add a greater sense of danger to the combat situations in the rp. However, I still don't think that magic should be super prevalent, and even within the order, encountering something even as mundane as a werewolf is still quite a bit deal.
Onto your second topic, realism and inclusion. I'm thinking a spectrum, really, depending on the kingdom, to add some flavor. Males and females will be equally (more or less) accepted within the order itself; however, the same may not be true for all the kingdoms. For example, within one kingdom, males and females might be equally allowed to fight, while in another, women can but it is frowned upon, and in the third women are barred altogether. As far as people who are non-white, they would certainly be allowed, especially as I intend to have each kingdom be predominantly based (in some ways) on countries outside of Europe, and thus their populations would be primarily non-white. Of course, characters can still be prejudiced within the roleplay towards those from other kingdoms (in fact, I would even somewhat encourage this for some mild conflict between characters); however, I would try not to delve into anything too closely resembling racism; that is, if characters in the rp are prejudiced against others, it should not really have anything to do with their ethnicity and more to do with their kingdom (in a similar way as a rich person might look down on a poor person).
And with that said, royalty. I actually initially assumed that any who could prove themselves would be allowed to join. However, now that I'm thinking about it, it might be interesting to have the order be primarily made up of nobles... however, I do not want all of the trainees to have to be of nobility. So, perhaps the order is traditionally restricted to nobility of some sort, yet this year they have decided to allow commoners to attempt to join. This could add some more plot-driving conflict, as of course many of the "peasant" trainees would be looked down upon and often given a hard time by not only their noble peers but likely many of their superiors as well.
As for era regarding weaponry and equipment... hm. I'm really not sure about that, we'll have to discuss it more. I'm thinking probably something closer to early medieval, with more rudimentary weapons, no gunpowder, less steel, etc. However, I'm not entirely opposed to including the previously mentioned either. It could be functional and interesting either way. That said, we also don't have to be entirely realistic with the time period. For example, just because it's later era and they may have invented steel, for example, doesn't mean that they've also invented gunpowder, or vice-versa.
As for a having a coat of arms, I figured the order will have its own colors and symbols, yes. Of course, since the knights may traditionally be of noble blood, many will most likely also display the colors and crests of their own family as well.
Finally, cavalry or no. My thoughts went along more with your last suggestion- that they are all trained in cavalry combat, but also have their own specialties. I think they would likely still focus on primarily swordmanship over other weapons; however, other fighting styles would not be completely barred, particularly if a student shows more promise with that than with the sword, or if it would be an especially useful skill to have.
I hope that answered your questions! If you have more questions/suggestions feel free to ask.

Okay so I'm just gonna start throwing things out there. I think I'm gonna drop Itiria, but we'll keep Kinsuic and Alverny. Adding Laskos and Tasnia as well.
Alverny is an island country off the coast from the others. It is similar to Great Britain geographically. Alver women are allowed to become knights; however, it is extremely rare. Though they prefer the nobles, any man who proves himself can become a respected warrior. It is the kingdom closest to the stereotypical view of medieval times.
Laskos is the northernmost kingdom, which occupies mostly the mountains and cliffs along the northern coast, and a few broken islands just off it. It is accepted and fairly normal for woman to become knights in their society; plus, due to their culture, they have less of a break between the nobility and the commoners, and thus practically anyone can become a knight if they show aptitude for it. They are a bit Viking-like in culture. Though their society is quite free so far as what women are allowed to do and what commoners are allowed to make of themselves, their society is a bit harsh in that they have no room for those who are considered weak. Each person must prove themselves or be shunned from society.
Kinsuic occupies most of the Edren Peninsula where our four kingdoms are found. It is a lush, forested, temperate kingdom warmed by the currents which flow from the south between its coast and the islands of Alverny. In culture, it is more similar to France or Germany than to England. Like in Alverny, women are able to be warriors, but it is uncommon. However, it is not quite as uncommon as in Alverny. However, nobles are far more highly respected, and it is not only frowned upon but illegal for a commoner to rise to nobility, whether through deeds or through marriage.
Tasnia is east of Kinsuic, in the inland part of the mountains. Much of the rainfall is blocked by the mountains, and thus Tasnia is a dry and partially desert kingdom. It more resembles Spain and the Middle East than the other kingdoms. Tasnia has a strict caste system where each person knows his or her place and there is little to no mobility. Kings remain kings, commoners remain commoners. Businesses and trades tend to remain within families for generations because of this, and thus knighthood tends to be almost hereditary. Tasnian women are not allowed to be warriors or even to take on non-traditional roles, else they face severe social and sometimes legal consequences.

Hello! I hope you don't mind if I just jump in here.
For the different kingdoms, it might be fun to establish how they feel about each other. It could create for rivalries among the trainies or even alliances. Also, what each kingdom is known for. This might help establish what each person could be proud of about their kingdom or look down on another for. Though this one might be less needed.

Yep! Both of those things will be touched on. I was just trying to get down the basics in my previous post, to establish a sort of general theme for each kingdom.
Have any ideas on the particulars of the kingdoms' relations and reputations?

Kinsuic and Tasnia would probably be allies because they are next to each other and have similar enough societies. Same with Alverny and Laskos, except more of a war alliance. I can see Laskos being the friendly sort and Alverny agreeing because Laskos solders are known to be tough + they would have a pretty large army because women can join too. I have a feeling Laskos and Tasnia wouldn't be fond of each other due to how different they are. I'm not sure about all out war or enemies, but defiantly not friendly. They are so far away from each other, I doubt they would fight much. Kinsuic would be pretty much the dominate kingdom, being both bigger and having the best climate for crops, thus allied with most if not all. Maybe have a tiny rivalry with Laskos, due to the fact that the Laskos don't seem like the type to bow down to the bigger man. These would be the two who probably fought the most.
I dunno if these fit with your image at all.

Yeah that seems reasonable. Tasnia and Laskos would still be allies to a degree, because of the order, but there would certainly be some contention there.

No idea. I figure that will depend somewhat on the history of the order. Most likely Kinsuic though.
