I know this is just a fantasy series, but sometimes it bothers me how almost none of the kittypets in the series are fixed. I know that not everyone gets their animals fixed, but the fact that so many of them aren't just seems weird to me, especially in cases like Graystripe, Tallstar, Cloudtail, and Twigpaw I don't know much about being a vet, but I would imagine that any feral cats brought into the clinic would be fixed, not only to keep the population down but also for the animal's own health. And assuming Graystripe went to an animal shelter, you would think he would have been fixed too. I can't see any animal shelter giving out unfixed animals to people, but then again I have no experience with animal shelters so I have no idea how they work. And then there's the whole thing of marking territory... you would think the owners wouldn't put up with that for very long. I know it is just a fantasy, but it just seems so weird to me how like every kittypet is seemingly walking around unfixed. Smudge and Henry are the only ones who are fixed from what I can remember. And the characters can supposedly smell if you are fixed anyways, so it isn't like there are cats who are fixed but it just isn't mentioned.

Two words: Plot Convenience

Didn't Smudge go to the Cutter, though?

Didn't Smudge go to the Cutter, though? Yeh, but Smudge wasn't 'important' to the plot, he didn't 'need' descendants, apparently Cloudtail and Graystripe did.

Didn't Smudge go to the Cutter, though? Yes, Smudge and Henry are the only ones as far as I can remember. But I said most/any because they were such background characters who barely appeared they don't really count to me.

As ✲ριкαƒυєу✲ said, plot convenience. It's one of those cases where, between logic and reality or ... i don't know, Erins? the Erins win. There's no real reason or sense behind the matter - it's just what the Erins wanted.

To be fair, Cloudtail was just a tiny kit when Firestar took him to ThunderClan. Most people don't fix their cats until they're about six months. Cloudtail was still pretty small and needed his mother, so that's a good excuse for him lol.

I meant when he was taken by Twolegs in Rising Storm as an apprentice

As above said, Cloudtail was taken away when he was an apprentice. It makes no sense, considering than people fixes their cats for them to not go away when they know that the cat used to be a stray or feral, apart for the population motives.

Half of what the Erins do makes no sense lol. You'd think that would be the case, but as I said before, it doesn't happen because of plot convenience.

The only ones that don't make sense are Graystripe and Cloud tail. But for Tallstar and Twigpaw, they were injured when they went to the vet. Vets don't typically fix an animal when they are already recovering from am injury. Especially with females since spaying is very invasive. Twigpaw still being intact, makes complete sense.

i can see why cloudtail didnt get fixed bc he was younger when he was captured. he probably hadnt started spraying yet. and besides he wasnt there long also some people dont fix their cats if they are strictly indoors. my older cats are fixed but my young tom isnt. some people dont have the money. for example, we would have had the money but then my mom moved in so now we are super low on money and there are more pressing matters than neutering a cat asap. like he decided to go outside and now he has a scratch in his eye. so if it gets worse hes off to the vet and thats where our money will be going. but like ??? all these outdoor cats ??? like millie and graystripe i just dont understand. i can take gray not being fixed bc hes a male but millie is an outdoor female cat. how wasnt she pregnant when gray met her like ?? ok then

my cat was strictly only indoors and yet she got fixed when she was younger too...? weird.
anyways. cloudtail was too young. i think tallstar was already injured at the time. but graystripe has no excuse tbh.

I actually know a few people who don't get their animals fixed because they think it's wrong. I also know others that don't care.

How was Cloudtail too young? He was at least six months old, seeing as he was an apprentice. Six months is when cats start to become sexually mature anyways, so it is recommended cats are fixed before then. I had several of my cats fixed when they were four months old.
Anyways, I have wondered this too before tbh. Like I still have some strictly outdoor cats who aren't fixed yet, but they're more like barn cats than house cats.

Because fixed cats in the Warriors are lazy. They're unlikely to go out into the forest and meet the Clans.

My big question is...
Why wasn't MILLIE fixed?
though what are cat altering practices in the UK as opposed to the USA?
The series are set in the UK after all.

piperthehyenaomg you're right...it actually would have been cute if millie and graystripe stayed mates even despite both of them being fixed and unable to have their own kits.

Wonder if Purdy is fixed. (apparently he's gay so it wouldn't matter anyway)
