Random fact but up until very, very recently, I was convinced that Sandstorm and Dustpelt were littermates. It made sense to me because when Firepaw joined the clans, they were always the older apprentices and seeing as cats have litters, it would be logical that they would have been in the same litter.
I believed this so much that when I went on the wiki and saw that they weren't listed as siblings, I was tempted to write in and tell them they'd made a mistake.
Anyway, I have since realised that they never were confirmed to be siblings 😶
Did anyone else think they were siblings? Or has anyone else believed something like this that later turned out not to be true? ie another cat relationship?

I always had a feeling that they weren't littermates even before it was confirmed, especially since Dustpelt's jealousy of Fireheart for spending time with Sandstorm seemed to be more than that of a protective brother, so I'm not surprised that they aren't littermates and that Dustpelt liked her before moving on to Ferncloud.

Until it was shown that Dustpelt was jealous of Fireheart because he spent a lot of time with Sandstorm, I totally thought the same thing. It didn't help that they were made warriors together either.

I also thought they were siblings
edit: it made sense to me because 1. I never picked up on the fact that Dustpaw was supposed to have a crush on Sandpaw. I just didn't think to read it that way. 2. They were named for dust and sand. 3. They were made warriors at the same time. 4. One was brown and one was sand-colored, which I know now is probably meant to be cream but at the time I interpreted as just a lighter brown cat.

I never had that feeling. Dustpelt, even to me when I was younger, made it obvious he liked Sandstorm, but then she started liking Firestar, so he ended up with Ferncloud in the end.

Definitely was on the "Dustpelt loves Sandstorm" bandwagon at first. I so badly wanted them to end up as elders together, sharing their grief in old age, not as mates, just as friends again.

I thought so at first as well.

I never caught on to the jealousy thing. Reading it again knowing what I do now, I can see it, but when I first read it I thought that Dustpelt felt betrayed when Sandstorm started hanging out with Fireheart because they were best buds and she was turning to the other side. I thought they bullied Fireheart together initially and it was a 'fun' thing they did as siblings but then she started being friends with Fireheart and Dustpelt felt betrayed. That's how I always saw it until it was confirmed that Dustpelt actually had a crush on Sandstorm.

Ah, I also preferred Dust x Sand tbh, and Cinder x Fire.

While it would make sense if Sand and Dust were siblings, Dust's jealousy seemed like more than an overly protective brother in my opinion.

I sort of think that they were meant to be siblings at first, but that was changed later on. It definitely seemed that way, and I thought they were siblings until I saw them get shipped and had checked the wiki to see if people were fetishizing cat incest.

Knowing now that they weren't siblings, I can see the hints, but at the time I honestly read it as them being siblings who had always gotten along because they were so similar until suddenly Firepaw came along and was the Golden Apprentice of the Clan. When Sandpaw started warming up to him, Dustpaw was mad; they had always been so close, and now she's abandoning her brother to go hang out with a kittypet, and she's changing, and their "ha ha, we're such fun twins!" dynamic was ruined, and they were supposed to be warriors, and how dare she do this to him (in Dustpaw's eyes, that is)?
Again, I get it now…their closeness was supposed to imply a childhood crush from at least one side…but back then I just didn't even consider it. I miss those days back when I thought a story could exist without constant romantic drama.

I also thought that they were siblings when I first read the books. They spent so much time together, and they were similar in personality (at least at first) that it made sense as a kid that they were siblings. It wasn't until my second read-through that I caught on that Dustpelt's attitude towards Sandstorm was more than over-protectiveness. I guess that even when he wasn't very subtle about it, the writers were (at least for younger readers).

I never thought they were siblings, and actually got really confused when Firestar and Sandstorm suddenly became mates because I had been under the impression that Dustpelt and Sadnstorm were going to get together (and their dynamic, in my opinion, was way better than that of Sandstorm and Firestar.)
Funnily, I never noticed him being jealous, I just thought that they were close friends and so it seemed obvious that they'd be ending up together. In retrospect I notice, though, that almost none of the cats who become mates were particularly close beforehand.
What was more shocking to me is learning that Dustpelt and Ravenpaw are brothers, because they pretty much never interacted in a way that would imply it, and I was also under the impression that Dustpelt was older than him.
Also, another "didn't think they were siblings" is kind of a hilarious and ridiculous thought thinking back. I used to think that the Power of Three cats were a weird love triangle? Before I had ever read that series, and had only heard of Hollyleaf from my sister.
I was under the impression that it was like. A weird thing where Lionblaze was in love with Hollyleaf, who was in love with Jayfeather, who was in love with Lionblaze. This was years ago, and honestly I can't remember why I thought that, but needless to say my sister corrected me pretty quickly after I mentioned it.

Sandstorm and Dustpelt aren't litter mates but Dustpelt and Ravenpaw are littermates. Dustpelt thought he was pathetic and was like "Screw him, if I don't reveal my family history with him I could get the ladies!"

Sandstorm is forever alone because she was the only kit in her litter.

Yeah, it was actually confirmed that Dustpaw and Ravenpaw were littermates, which is bizarre to think about

Yeah, it was actually confirmed that Dustpaw and Ravenpaw were littermates, which is bizarre to think about I know. There older sisters are Frostfur and Brindleface which means Brightheart, Cinderpelt, Thornclaw, Ashfur, Ferncloud, Sandstorm, and Brackenfur's uncles are Dustpelt and Ravenpaw. Mind blowing isn't it.
