not only is the physics bad most of the time, the plots are all similar in some way. some super cool dude who can fight solo is called in to solve a problem or help an organization (Local police force, FBI, CIA, Secret Agent, etc..). there's always ONE female he HAS to work with and despite having NO chemistry, they end up hooking up for NO REASON other than to have an explicit scene! i am looking at basically ALL James Bond movies, and most of the movies Tom Cruise has been in...it's just so heteronormative, sexist, bland, cliche, ALL THE BAD THINGS I HATE ABOUT MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT AND STORY TELLING.

while i agree that there are a lot of action movies out there that kind of fit into what you're saying, there are others that completely break that norm. they go above and beyond to make their stunts as real as possible and have little to no love interest whatsoever. Mad Max: Fury Road and Saving Private Ryan are only two such examples. There are genuinely good action movies, you've just to know where to look for them.

alfredMad Max: Fury Road is really good and my dad loves army movies, so i've seen Saving Private Ryan dozens of times! i know there are some that are different, but it just gets irritating when my parents want to go see a stupid action movie (especially when they wanted to see the Fast and Furious movie and i absolutely HATE those. and that other tom cruise movie? Jack Reacher or whatever? in those movies, it's as I have described and its painful to sit through)

I agree with this so much
I enjoy Mad Max: Fury Road, the fist two Terminator movies, the first two Alien movies, and Saving Private Ryan is also good, but that's about it.
[im not sure if star wars counts as action movies? I don't think they do, but I love most of those

Yeah I usually have an problem with movies like this because it's so predictable. It's even worse when the romance is just thrown in half the time like it is without build up and without purpose.

🎃❅❖.Şp໐໐kฯຟiຖ໓.❖❅🎃exactly. the heteronormative "romance" is shoehorned in just to give the "men" a s3x scene.

action movies put me to sleep. they all seem to follow the plot you're describing and when they have fight scene after fight scene i zone out. i like a lot of the Marvel characters but the movies are pure torture to sit there and watch them fight like 10 battles with them leaping around to the point where i don't even know why they're fighting anymore. while i realize that scenes depicting the characters just relaxing and stress-free don't tend to carry a lot of meaning or add to the plot, it would be nice to see them appear more normal for relatability's sake. idk i just tend to avoid action movies

in two or three movies the fast and furious crew has to go to space

ooh and there's also this other heteronormative trope too. a merciless, bad @ss woman who can fight all by herself, seemingly needs no man to save her, can save herself, think for herself...but once the male lead is introduced, suddenly she is reduced to falling for him for no reason other than "he's new, i better teach/mentor/protect/watch him." and after they "hook up" she's reduced to being a mess because of him.

yes but there are cliches and stereotypes and dumb stuff in every movie genre. you just have to find the good stuff. and most action/sci fi films have bad physics. it's about the suspension of disbelief. i can believe i giant lizard terrorizing tokyo because it's presented in a believable manner. but something like the fast and the furious franchise has awful writing, acting, etc. and the action is too dumb and over the top to be believable. so it all just comes down to suspension of disbelief and the manner in which things are presented.
