Just saw a discussion about this the other day online and thought I might ask you guys what you all think. I personally like the idea, but in reality, it would require a massive change in how the U.S. state and federal government functions, and I don't think they have the guts to make such a change- at least at the moment. But still, as the percentage of the U.S. that are Independents rises- and if trends continue Independents might make up half of the U.S. population by 2025- and anger and dissatisfaction towards the two main parties begins to grow- this issue will probably only continue to become an issue in finding out how to make sure the people's voices are heard- and giving them more opportunities to feel represented.
So- what do you think?
Please no bashing- and please no "My opinion is that _ people suck". That's still bashing. Feel free to debate just be respectful.

It could work since the U.S Gov was made like a computer you could upgrade over time.and the 3rd party system is a joke.

But Republicans are stupid enough to make trump president and Democrats are stupid enough to vote for currupt Clinton. I don't like either because I am a socialist.

You mean a system with more than two major parties? Well, I can certainly see our current parties potentially being uprooted. I think the Democratic Party is ultimately doomed to collapse due to rampant corruption within it, along with its recent major failures- unless something changes in a major way. However, it's bound to stick around for a while simply because people hate Trump so much. The GOP is sailing pretty smoothly rn and has no major impending disasters that I can see, but if Trump winds up being a horrible president, they certainly could take a big hit.

As a political science major I feel like I need to say something A multi party system, while it sounds great, would be really hard to accomplish in America. We've had a two party system for so long that it would be really hard to get out of that vibe. The way the American presidential election is set up now, the only candidates who are guaranteed a spot on the ballot for every state are those backed by the DNC and the RNC. In order for that to change, congress would have to pass a law. However of course Congress (both the Dems and the Reps) aren't going to pass a law that undermines their party and their parties power. No matter whether or not America SHOULD have a multi party system, I'm not sure it's possible.
