Why do you dislike Daisy?

๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ต Actually I meant to put Daisy in neutral. Oops. cx I'm neutral on Daisy more of as a character than a cat. As a cat she is very likable. She's good warrior of the nursery, and I think ThunderClan has come a long way with her as a member. However, she always seemed to me as a little flat. I'm not sure how to explain it. She never had much development or much of unique personality to really stand out to me. I did like her friendship with Cloudtail, though, even if it made Brightheart a little jealous. Overall, I think she's a good cat that's really useful to the Clan, but she just never showed any qualities that really made me think "wow, I really like this character."

Overall, I think she's a good cat that's really useful to the Clan, but she just never showed any qualities that really made me think "wow, I really like this character." Ah, alright. Yeah, I get what you're saying. I think Daisy had great development though, it just isn't as obvious as other characters. When we first meet Daisy, she's shown as a she-cat who's easily scared of the wild, but endures it if only for the sake of her kits. When meeting ThunderClan, she shows to get along well enough with Sorreltail, Ferncloud, and Cloudtail, who she has a crush on. It's noted in SotC that when she left, she also hoped to find love just like Smokey supposedly loved Floss. She comes to accept that Cloudtail will only see her as a friend, and returns to ThunderClan thanks to Smokey. Tl Though not a great fighter, Daisy is shown to be an excellent caretaker to the point where many of the younger cats see her as a second mother. When the forest caught fire, Firestar put her in charge of watching the queens and elders, vowed to protect Sorreltail when WindClan was going to attack, and wasn't afraid to be proud for not have taken a warrior name. She also showed the most concern over Poppyfrost when the latter was feeling depressed and called Spiderleg out on his neglectful behavior towards their kits. She also participates fighting against the Dark Forest, and in Bramblestar's Storm, she's shown to help around camp when there aren't any kits to care for and was upset when Smokey took Coriander as his new mate, especially when he even refers to her as Floss' replacement and will scold the apprentices when they're acting foolish. And in TAQ, she's mentioned to have gone hunting for Lilyheart. Again, not big development when compared to other cats, but when it comes to someone like Daisy, I'd say it's pretty good. She started out as a meek she-cat and soon grew to become one of the most respected cats in her Clan. From dependent to independent in her own right.

๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ต Yup! I really respect her as a cat, even if she didn't totally wow me. She definitely does not deserve all the hate she gets from the fandom. Like you said, she's a great protector and works hard for the Clan, and honestly the fact that she didn't take a Clan name shouldn't matter like it does to a lot of people. She's a good cat, even if she's sort of become a background character. I plan on rereading the series soon, and I'll make sure to give her development more attention. Who knows, she may move up on the list!

Why do you dislike Ivypool and hate Dovewing?

@aquathepiplup
A lot of it has to do with them having very, very similar personalities, at least to me. They seemed like basically the same cat whenever I read Omen of the Stars, but admittedly, I was a lot younger when I read that arc so my memory may be fuzzy a bit.
Let's start with Ivypool. I certainly like Ivypool more than her sister, and I like her independence. However, she was overly touchy to me. She got jealous easily, which in some ways is understandable, but it just got annoying after awhile. This only got worse after she started training in the Dark Forest. I will admit that I liked her a bit more when she got her act together and started to spy on the Dark Forest cats, but still that touchiness remained. Overall I just found her an overall stubborn character that was hard for me personally to understand. Though I do get that a lot of people can relate to her.
Now on to Dovewing. I did not have a problem with Dovewing in the beginning, but as Omen of the Stars went on, I started to dislike her more and more. For one, she's whiny. Now, I know she had a lot thrust upon her at a young age. The thing is, though, so did Lionblaze and Jayfeather. And they certainly handled it much better than Dovewing did. She also suffered from a lot of the same problems that Ivypool did for me. She is very touchy and prone to jealousy. What really made me hate her though, was her relationship issues. I know a lot of people say this, but seriously, half of Dovewing's character revolved around the love triangle. That is what really got tiring for me. I know a lot of that can be blamed on poor writing, but my point still stands. What's even worse, neither Tigerheart nor Bumblestripe is good for Dovewing. Tigerheart is arrogant and even possessive at some points. Bumblestripe is a good cat but just assumes that Dovewing will automatically like him. And Dovewing cannot seem to see that neither are good matches and she should just abandon it completely. But no, she just stayed her whiny, immature self that couldn't get over her struggle with toms.
I do have a positive to say about Dovewing, though. I really liked her relationship with Lionblaze and Jayfeather. She was like the little super-powered kid of the Three, and I liked how Jayfeather and Lionblaze assumed some responsibility of watching out for her when she was still learning of the prophecy.

Lionblaze and Jayfeather did NOT handle the prophecy better. If anything, they handled it worse. Jayfeather went as far as calling Ivypool a traitor and Lionblaze tried to pressure her into telling them who was training in the Dark Forest. Spottedleaf had an argument with Jaypaw when he had to become a medicine cat because he wanted to be a warrior. What did Jaypaw do? He complained. He whined, as much as Dovepaw did, and still complained after he became a medicine cat. Even Leafpool was beginning to lose patience with him. When was Dovewing ever jealous? If she was jealous because Ivypool was helping then it was only that one time. She was never jealous of Ivypool - in fact she tried to stop her from training in the Dark Forest and tried to warn her that Tigerstar was bad. I have to agree on the love triangle part, though. That was just poor writing on the Erins' part.

@aquathepiplup Hm. I dunno, it just seemed that Dovewing was being really difficult about the whole situation. Like I said, I haven't read Omen of the Stars in like five or six years so I may be misremembering some things. Even so, I did not enjoy Dovewing's character. I just remember absolutely hating her personality and outwardly groaning whenever a chapter was in her POV. I don't really know what it was. Maybe Jayfeather's unique personality is what made his whining more disguised to me. Dovewing just never really connected with me and I just mostly thought she was a worse version of her sister. She may move up whenever I reread the arc, but I highly doubt it. You do make valid points though. I mostly just wanted to be done with Omen of the Stars because of the drawn out plot lines that started in Power of Three, so I may have over or under exaggerated some things in my mind. I do know though that Dovewing was by far the POV character that I connected with the least, and she just didn't sit well with me.
Right? I really hope Tigerheart's Super Edition focuses on more than just that forsaken romance. It's just...ugh.

@aquathepiplup
Leafpool was a character that I never really hated but never really liked either. She's just another character that I didn't really connect with. She was my least favorite POV to read in The New Prophecy, mostly because I felt like all the major plot stuff happened with the traveling cats and nothing really too great or major happened in her chapters besides the Twolegs capturing the Clan cats. However, she never really got on my nerves and she seems to be a good cat. I was also pleased of how she handled her romance with Crowfeather. I do think that the worst moment of her is when she abandoned her Clan and had that falling out with Cinderpelt. However, she was able to go back to her Clan and more or less handle the whole situation with her kits fairly well. Yeah, she lied and indirectly broke her sister and Bramblestar apart (though I think it was Squirrelflight who was the more immature one here, as she didn't even trust her mate with the situation), but she was way more mature about the whole situation than others have been. It really just comes down to me just not connecting with the character personally and finding her a bit boring.
Now that I type this out, I think I just convinced myself to move Leafpool up to neutral. Haha, it's hard for me to do this just off the top of my head. ^_^'

๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ต Sorry for the delay! School...amirite? xD Anyway, let me start by saying that I have not read Goosefeather's novella, so just know that my opinions on him come from the Super Editions I always saw Goosefeather as a rather distant character. He's really strange, and I at times felt like he was so weird at times that I could not even connect with him in the slightest. I never really understood why he interpreted the "omen" he received as saying that ThunderClan should attack WindClan. Also I always kind of blamed him for Crookedstar's accident, though that may just be a personal thing. In conclusion, I felt like every time Goosefeather was in the spotlight he'd just be shouting about some sign from StarClan or rambling on about strange things. He just wasn't an easy character to connect with for me. Though I do think it's pretty cool that he could walk in both StarClan and the Dark Forest. That and there was something in his madness that kept me from all-out hating him.

LynxSoul Sorry for taking so long. I just saw your post this morning and I had to go to school. cx I feel like a lot of the reason I disliked Lionblaze was the whole "OP" trope they played on him. He was yet another character I couldn't really connect with. While I didn't really find him outright annoying like I did with Dovewing, he was still not a joy to read for me. He seemed really one-sided and even somewhat shallow. I never really liked how, at times, he could get too fight-happy and overconfident. He also thought for some reason that meeting Heatherpaw in the tunnels was just okay. And then he grew to outright dislike Heathertail when she was loyal to her clan and let him go (though Heathertail was a bit of a jerk about it). He was also another victim of a drawn out romance. He and Cinderheart were just tiring and honestly Cinderheart not believing she could be with him because of his power was just stupid and it was stupid that Lionblaze put up with it (I bet you could guess why I dislike Cinderheart). He was...okay. I never felt like he was anything special and he was a bit frustrating at times.

I definitely understand why you'd call Goosefeather strange, but remember that every single one of his appearances other than GCโwhich doesn't have him rambling about prophecies all the timeโdepict him as senile, but he isn't. Notice how every single one of his prophecies cane true, from predicting that Bluekit and Snowkit would be apprentices a little earlier than usual (even Moonflower wasn't expecting it), to Tigerstar's path to darkness, to even his own death. The only one that was wrong was the one that led ThunderClan to raid WindClan, and that's because he was so used to seeing prophecies and omens everywhere by that point. It was an accident, it's just unfortunate that it was at the cost of his sister's life.

๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ตThat is true. That is another that kept me from outright hating him. He's so strange and rambly, but it's somewhat ominous that his prophecies of come true despite the Clan low-key thinking he's just a crazy old medicine cat. I definitely need to read Goosefeather's Curse. Maybe it'd give me a different perspective!

๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ตThanks! I kind of touched on this a bit in my Lionblaze post, but what led me to dislike Cinderheart was the way she handled Lionblaze's power. I thought it was kind of ridiculous of her to think that they shouldn't be together just because he had a power. Like I think I get it, but her reasoning of "oh you're special and I'm not" never really made a lot of sense to me. I mean, she knew he liked her, and they were getting along just fine before Lionblaze made his revelation. I also never liked how she felt the need to be a medicine cat when she discovered that Cinderpelt's spirit was possessing her. I can sympathize with this a little more because I'm not sure how I would react myself to this situation, but still. She couldn't realize that she was a separate cat than Cinderpelt? It's almost like she just lost all sense of self-identity upon this revelation. I just thought she overreacted a lot and was kind of ridiculous. I know it was hard for her to accept, though, so I can sort of understand. Plus I think she was a great friend to Hollyleaf. Ultimately I think that if I could've read the situation from her point of view, she would move up on my list. I just don't quite understand her.

No problem, college for me takes a long time to get through--thankfully I'm on break now for about a week. I mean, here's the issue I had with Lionblaze, his power. Granted on paper it sounded cool--but it came at the cost of being kinda boring. As in whenever he was in a fight involving his power, unless he decided otherwise, he'd pretty much win--making tension a little pointless. Unless I'm missing something here regarding it. I do agree on the romance too and about Cinderheart--at least they sort of get better in Brambleclaw's Storm?

Ultimately I think that if I could've read the situation from her point of view, she would move up on my list. I just don't quite understand her. Well, the reason Cinderheart broke up with Lionblaze had more to do with the fact that he had a prophecy to fulfill and she didn't want to feel like she was distracting him from that. And in a way, she was right since Lionblaze wouldn't stop thinking about Cinderheart afterwards and it got to the point that he nearly let Ratscar kill him just to prove to her that he could be a normal cat. As for the Cinderpelt thing, no one realized that the two were literally just two cats sharing one body and Cinderheart actually did accept that she was meant to be a warrior when Jayfeather first told her, albeit still a little uncomfortable with the revelation. In fact, it wasn't even until she had to save Mousewhisker and Cherrypaw from poison did she feel conflicted since she had literally all of Cinderpelt's memories, including a vast knowledge on herbs. She didn't feel normal anymore, especially after this event when even Leafpool didn't know what to do and Jayfeather wasn't present at the time. She was furious that the two of them were keeping such a secret from her for so long. Everyone gossiping about her couldn't have helped, either.

Post by Deleted on Apr 10, 2017 21:10:15 GMT -5
๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ตIt does indeed! Yes! I've been waiting for this one. c; Breezepelt is an awful cat. He's cruel and horrible and did some pretty bad things. He tried to kill a pregnant she-cat and his blind half-brother. He trained in the Dark Forest and fought on the side of heathens such as Tigerstar, Brokenstar, and Hawkfrost. He betrayed his Clan and was willing to kill the cats he had grown up with. HOWEVER, I love his character. I like how he's sort of what I call an in between villain. He's certainly bad but I don't think he's bad in a conventional way. I don't think he really wants power, or destruction, or really, to be cruel. I do think he just wants his father to love him. That little scene in Eclipse when Crowfeather compliments Lionpaw on his pigeon but ignores what at the time he knew as his only son bore a deep, deep impression in my mind. I don't recall if I just imagined Breezepaw being crestfallen or if the book actually pointed it out, but that scene made me really see why Breezepelt had turned into what he had. He is the son of a traitor. Crowfeather betrayed his Clan to be with Leafpool, who later had his kits that he never knew of. Everyone in WindClan knew that Nightcloud was his second choice. That she wasn't his true love. Even Breezepelt knew this. He was the outcome of his father's betrayal. A reminder that Crowfeather was not with the cat he loved. All he wanted was for his dad to love him. And he never really did. Maybe Crowfeather felt affection for his son deep, deep down, but he never really showed it. Breezepelt never had the option to think that his father even liked him. I think this was emotionally damaging to him when he was a kit and apprentice. What we got of him was the end product of that neglect from his father. He was hateful, spiteful, vengeful. He had turned into his father, but arguably an even worse version. And that is the true tragedy of his character. And I love it. If you've seen Avatar: The Last Airbender, Breezepelt reminds me a lot of Zuko. Zuko's only mission in life after being banished was to make his father proud. He'd go to extreme lengths to capture the Avatar, because he knew that would make his father love him. He had no idea of what he'd do if he ever accomplished the task, and he didn't care. Zuko only wanted to make his dad care about him. And unbeknownst to him, he was turning into his dad. He showed the same cruelty that his father had. He slowly drove himself to mercilessness and destruction. I think this was exactly what was wrong with Breezepelt. I hope that he uses the way that his father treated him and avoid it when raising his own kits. I hope he is now finally happy with Heathertail, Smokepaw, and Brindlepaw. In my opinion, Breezepelt is one of the best written characters in the series, right up there with Skystar. It just takes a bit of digging to see how deeply the Erins have written him.

Oh, that I definitely understand. Even though I dislike Breezepelt as a cat, I still really like him as a character and villain. Anyway, I guess I can see why he'd remind you of Zuko. But whereas Zuko became a better person and pretty much stopped trying to please his father as the series went on and thus becoming his own person and becoming one of Aang's most trusted friends, Breezepelt became worse to the point of trying to kill his half-brothers and was glad that his half-sister was dead. I really wonder how they're going to redeem him because just being a good father isn't enough. And I hope it isn't forced, either.

๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ท๐พ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ต Yup! Probably should have added "book 1 and half of book 2 Zuko" but ya get what I mean. So do I! I guess they could just make him die some sort of heroic death, like maybe he ends up saving someone in his family or something. That would be really cliche though and I'd like to see more of Breezepelt before he dies. I can't wait to find out though. I just pray that the Erins don't rely on him being a good father to redeem him. That'd be really underwhelming.
