Okay so I know this has been asked before but does anyone know what the sickness in The Blazing Star is? Mum is studying veterinary nursing and we were looking through the veternary dictionary, I thought it might be in there.
Did anyone actually find out what it was?

I found these two pages about the blazing star plant(gayfeather is another word for it): GayfeatherBlazing starI think the blazing star is the gayfeather link. Using that information, I can't really find anything? Maybe it's some sort of airborne kidney disease? I think we can discredit that second link because wasn't there some toms who got sick? Anyways, it's probably a made-up disease.

i believe that the sickness was the bubonic plague because it involves the bumps that the plague has and it contain the same symptoms

Try looking up Feline Cow Pox. It comes from cats hunting and eating rodents. Most of the time is clears up but if "immune system is suppressed by medicines or illness, then the infection can develop in a severe and generalised way." The cats just had a big battle and are very weak so I think maybe it is Feline Cow Pox. This also could be the infection that Shadow clan gets. "Cheyenne treated communicable diseases like measles, mumps, smallpox and the average fever with blazing star root." I found all of these on the internet.
