[ Welcome ] Hey hey, welcome to my sketch dump! I haven't posted anything on the art forum in ages, so I thought I'd dump all the sketches that I've done over the past few months. Mostly you can find concepts for the upcoming reboot of my comic, Westward. The drawings have been done over a period of a few months, so some of these are older than others. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I love talking about my characters, and will answer any questions you have!
I'm going to apologise in advance for the photo quality - my sketchbook doesn't permit scanning. I draw mostly traditionally, but there might be the occasional digital drawing.
[ About Me ] I'm currently 17 years old and am in my final year of high school. I'm most active in the fan fiction forums, and am an aspiring writer and comic artist. I eventually plan on studying journalism at university. I love action movies and classic rock, and lan on travelling to world. I'm a pretty outdoorsy person who loves hiking, and I love to write and draw outside, resulting in me carrying a sketchbook at all times. In real life, I am cursed with social anxiety and have a very small circle of friends. I'm currently working on a couple of literary projects and one humble graphic novel.
As mentioned above, my preferred medium is traditional art, mostly just sketches and watercolour, but I also enjoy charcoal. Any digital art will be done on a Wacom intros tablet in Photoshop Elements. Maybe one day I'll do commissions or something.

[ Finished Pieces ] Finished and coloured pieces of art in a variety of mediums, including digital, watercolour, charcoal and coloured pencils
None yet! Check back later!
[ Sketches ] Mostly character concept art done in pencil, occasionally inked. May have spot colour. Jax the bandit! One of the main protagonists from the comic. He, like most bandits, lives out in the Wasteland, and seems permanently confused. Maybe he's crazy. Maybe the sun has fried his brain. Who knows?Desh doesn't give a damn about your problems. A part time assassin and a full time hotel manager, Desh is struggling to keep her life together after loosing the people she loves. Ignore my notes - just trying to work out colours and genetics. At the moment, she's a seal-lynx Bengal cat with marble markings. Really proud of those paws, tbh!Mali, a high ranking official in the army, before I decided to do a complete redesign. Some parts will stay, but others will not. F Fun fact: Mali is agender! Biologically female, she doesn't identify as either gender, but will respond to she/her or they/them pronouns. Jax again! Happy boy. Eee, Tigerlily! My sweet child! She's a healer, in training to become the High Priestess, and she's pretty talented. the symbol on her bag is the symbol of Hathor, her patron goddess. She's brown tabby with white c:Tigerlily again! I love drawing her curly hair.Lady Nefertiti Aketo - princess in exile, talented swordswoman, mediocre magician. The protagonist of the story, seeking to avenge her sister's death, all while battling for control of her mind (her patron goddess is a cruel one). Shade, the one-eyed trench coal boi. Halfway through drawing his markings here (he's a charcoal tabby, so they're quite complicated)Studying Shade's polydactyl paws! After a lot of experimentation, I decided to go with more humanoid hands/paws for my felines. Shade was always polydactyl, so it was quite interesting to convert that to kore human anatomy. As a full feline, Shade would be a 'thumb cat', who can use his extra toe as people use their thumbs to manipulate objects, but with more human-like anatomy the extra tie serves no purpose. It moves in tandem with the regular thumb-toe, but can be bent independently at the second joint. I'll have to draw more later.Nefertiti again - stuffed the lining on her forepaws, but I still like it, mostly because I finally succeeded in making her look her age (she's 20, four years older than her sister Tigerlily) Otto chibified! I drew this back in January, so I'll have to redraw it soon - I've improved quite a bit since then. A concept sketch I did for Gjin a while back that was never finished.Shade again, being his usual happy self, trying to map out facial markings. I love drawing him, despite those troublesome markingsProblematic fave Otto McAlpine, looking slightly less problematic than usual. His face is surprisingly hard to draw, even after all these years. It's the scars. MY POOR CHILD AND HIS MULTITUDE OF SCARSSorting out outfits. I need something that is practical for wandering around the desert, yet simultaneously says 'I've been living in the same rumpled jacket for years now'. Desh attempts to calm her scruffy insecure boyfriend down, with limited success. Otto probably suffers from PTSD, or the occasional panic attack, when he's not too busy packing all emotion into a tiny box never to be reopened. Yes, I ship my own characters.Rahni Bennett. She's a secondary character, and belongs to the same circle of assassins that Desh does, and Otto used to. She's sarcastic, a ridiculous flirt, and gay as hell. She's also the unofficial 'mum-friend' of the group. She does a good job of looking after her troubled friends. And no, I didn't forget to ink her other eye - she's half blind, but she doesn't let something as simple as iffy vision get in her way. the blindness resulted from an injury at a young age, but the crooked tail is a genetic defect. Otto, worried about something. I suppose someone should have warned him that the consequences always catch up. Jax again, probably saying something very philosophical. Working on Mali's redesign! I feel like this design captures their personality better - the tabby stripes remind me of war paint. This was a good excuse to work on some lore and traditions as well. I'll elaborate in later drawings Mali again, smiling this time, something that's reserved only for their nieces - and occasionally their siblings. Otto and Desh enjoy a quiet moment. It has occurred to me that this is the first time I've drawn Otto smiling. Desh isn't always interested in what he rambles on about, but she listens anyway.
It was only a matter of time before a Hamilton reference showed up.
Rahni doesn't always approve of Desh's life choices, but she always supports her - with added warnings, of course. Privately, she thinks Otto might be the worst decision Desh has ever made. She might even be right in the long run. Bonus points for drawing Desh mooning over her scruffy assassin.

WOW! I love these character designs! <3 Nefertiti is my favorite. She's got this boss look about her. A strong presence. I like the fact that her patron god is a cruel one. (': Makes me think abut Shadowface a little. Ugh, your style is so unique. Really great work, Dingo.

Tigerlily and Shade. I must adopt those two. :3 Tigerlily is precious. She always makes an effort to be positive, and is very good at it. She loves her big sister more than anything in the world. And Shade... Shade very much steps up to take Tiger's place. He becomes the most positive force in Nefertiti's life, but it takes quite a lot of effort - he's fighting his own demons, after all.
Of course you may adopt them both!

I love her as well. Creating a strong presence was very, very important when I saw designing her character. While she is royalty, she is primarily a warrior and a fighter. That is the core of who she is, and it was important that it was reflected physically. Maybe one day I'll draw her in all her royal regalia just for fun XD That is also a part of her character development. Said god (Sehkmet) is very powerful, and is primarily a goddess of destruction. In Egyptian mythology, she was known as the 'eye of Ra' and went on a mad rampage. While Nefertiti is strong enough to hold her back (most of the time) it takes quite a toll on her.
Maybe she and Shadowface are long lost cousins XD
Thank you <3 More soon!

Tigerlily is such a sweetheart, honestly. She's such a mature character to script as well - sometimes I have trouble remembering that she's only 16! One day, I'll make an actual tarot deck for this, and her corresponding card is the High Priestess. Some fun facts; - she really likes garlic - she's very talkative - she is a highly gifted magician - she likes board games and puzzles
I do like Shade. Out of all the main characters, he's the least developed, so it's been really fun to play around with him these past few weeks. Some fun facts; - he has two sisters, one older and one younger. - his favourite pastime is mapmaking, and his function in the group is the pathfinder - due to his missing eye, he has terrible depth perception - he is afraid of heights

*pokes* Can you tell us more about Shade? Of course
Shade was the second character created for the comic, waaaay back in 2013. His personality was originally the 'dark and mysterious' type, but that pretty quickly got switched to the upbeat guy he is today. He was originally solid grey (which made three out of four original characters grey, well done Dingo). Originally, h had a battle-axe type weapon, but that idea was ditched around the same time that his personality changed. Nowadays, he's a charcoal tabby with heavy white spotting and blue eyes
Shade is one of only two character to have more than one full-blooded sibling - the other being Tigerlily and Nefertiti's mother. Shade has two sisters, one older and one younger, and is the second oldest of the main characters, clocking in at... 27, I think. He grew up in a quiet, agricultural village and has a military background, serving in a specialised branch of the army as a pathfinder/mapmaker type. He was honourably discharged after he lost the eye in battle.
shade was originally ambidextrous, but I have yet do decide if that train will be kept in the rewrites - as much as I like it, it doesn't really serve much of a purpose storytelling-wise, and he's already polydactyl, so there's little point. On a random note - the gene for extra toes runs in his family. Both him and his younger sister inherited it from their father.
Uhhhh... Shade and Nefertiti have become quite good friends - he's an excellent emotional resource, and is very easy to talk to. After Tigerlily's death, he becomes the person Nerf turns to when she needs help, or just needs someone to talk to. He's probably very good at hugs. On the flip side, he is constantly at odds with Otto. Personality wise, they're on opposite ends of he spectrum. Otto finds Shade annoying and Shade finds Otto insufferable. They're constantly fighting - Shade doesn't quite know how to deal with the apathetic sarcasm. They'd probably get along better if they'd met 5 years earlier.
... I can't really think of anything else to say that isn't trivial - unless you want all the useless trivia I've stored up over the years - or is spoilery in some way. I'm actually thinking of doing an ask thread.
ALSO TODAY I STARTED SKETCHING A MOCK COMIC PAGE TO TEST INKING AND MEDIUMS AND STUFF, SO WE CAN GET BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS NEXT WEEK

*sobs* I know ;-; But without her death, there'd be no story. It's ok though - we'll see her for half a chapter! Useless trivia, coming up! I'll have to finish the group image I started for the ask thread! I'll try and have it up later this week! Ugh, I'm SO ready to start this up again. The first scene was giving me a bit of trouble so I decided to rephrase the dialogue a bit and BAM we're pretty much good to go

I know, I know ;-; Tigerlily is the one character who I can't un-kill, though.
Character deaths tend to fall into two categories, one being that they are killed off the further plot line, or are killed off because I like to torture myself my readers with unreasonable amounts of angst. Characters from the second category are the only ones I permit to come back from the dead, otherwise the plot line would disintegrate pretty quickly. The only character who broke that rule was Rahni, but only because there was no reason why it had to be her specifically that had to die. That concludes Dingo's rant on character death.
Random Facts;; - Shade is closer to his younger sister, Milena, as the age gap between them is only 2 years, compared to the six year difference between Shade and his older sister, Asha - Out of all the characters, his markings are the hardest to draw, and are the only markings I don't have memorised - He lost the eye in a knife fight - His primary weapon is a staff. He keeps a red strip of material tied around one end as a reminder of his days in the military. Red represented his position as a soldier, even if he did very little actual fighting - His favourite time of day is early morning - He can't cook to save himself, and hates having to rely on others to feed him
FIRST REBOOT PAGE HAS BEEN SKETCHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be doing the inking on Friday c:

;-; Trust me, I know how it works. I have much the same categories for my own stories. I mean, I'd love not to have to kill of so-and-so, but he/she needs to die to develop the story. However, a bunch of other character could end up living or dying depending on whether it will develop the plot or the main character. I need to reconsider a lot of the deaths I have planned, since I'm trying to figure out, 'Ok, for the type of novel it is, how much death should I put in. What will work within the plot line?' Also, I need to ask something. How do you make sure your headcannoned ships for your own characters don't make it into the book? XD Because they would not work well together, and yet I ship them. I love random facts. :') Yes! Cool!

I totally get it XD Killing off your own characters is a lot harder than initially thought.
Long answer short - you don't. So far, every imagined relationship has become part of the comic. It got to he point where I had to stop shipping my characters. Even if said relationships aren't actually explored or don't have time to be developed reasonably within the already existing plot line. If all else fails, you can just make them ex-lovers, which seems to solve most of my shipping problems... Really though, it gets to the point where you just have to agree that nothing else can impact the plot line severely, no matter how much you want to put it in there. There's a storytelling term I learnt recently called 'kill your darlings', which essentially means that if it does not contribute to the overall plot line or in fact distracts from the main story, it should be removed. I don't know if that actually answers the question but I hope it helped c:
Me too. Sometimes I think I spend way to much time on character development.
And funnily enough, Shade is probably the least-developed of all the main characters
:'D

No kidding. I'm having the hardest time with it, because I love them dearly. I'm also having the hardest time with a character I've 'adopted' as mine for a RP. He's mostly headcannoned now, and I had plans to kill him off in the 'end'. Now...gah, it might hurt me more than it will his friends.
Now, back to my planned, very much a problem, story... See, the thing is, I ship them as a sort of AU. So, unless I change some major factors, it's only ever going to be an alternate reality. For the best, really, since it would only distract from the plot. All my other pairings further the plot or develop the characters. This one would only make an already difficult friendship worse. So, best to leave it out...if only I didn't keep thinking 'now, they would be pretty cute together'. XD
I believe my first couple thoughts when I join an RP is: 'All right, if I kill of this character after (insert length of time) how much will it effect (insert characters name) and will it be worth it.' >.< Toooo much time thinking about what trials to put them through and what limits they should pass.

*sigh* Character death is hard. I get so attached to all my characters. The problem is that I need someone to kill, so I make up a character and slot them in. Then, it gets to the point where I need to develop their personality aaaaand it all falls apart, since I grow too attached to them.
For your shipping problem, I agree, it's better to just leave it out of the story. That's not saying you can't write an AU alongside it... I have about ten different AU's for Westward where I got onto the 'what if' tangent, but like you said, distracts from the storyline. It's mostly playing around with ships XD
Truuuue XD But honestly, the trials and tribulations are the best part.

Been there, done that. Ended up with to many characters and had to solve that problem by, you guessed it, killing them off. Which just took me back in a circle. I've got...*looks at latest count* three AUs for my story. And I don't mean small, short story type AUs. I'm speaking of whole, multi-volume series. XD So far, they don't really play around with ships as much as 'what if character A was evil' or stuff like that. Mostly just rewriting my main character's personality a couple of times because I put her through different experiences. Agreed! But then you kind of put yourself through the torture of having to write about them in the first place. I read this GN once, where the authors' characters came to life and had to basically teach them how to write well. Not to just make a two scene character who dies at the beginning without really making sure that that character had or will have meaning. Any wonder this conversation reminded me of that story? XD It's a good GN, but my library doesn't have the last volume. I want it so much. O.O

Its a never-ending cycle, really. The character count is already way too high though XD #writerproblems
Oh wow. most of my AU's are one-shot worthy at best. mostly its just 'what if character A spoke up instead of staying silent? Then character B wouldn't have left, and they would have been happy... or would they? I mean, B's already pretty self destructive... how much longer can A deal with it? But C would probably intervene at some point, but they do agree that B probably shouldn't be left alone for too long...' That was a little train of thought I had yesterday XD The love triangle between A, B and C is fun to entertain, at least until D shows up. Then things sort themselves out a bit.
That sounds like awesome. What was it called? I'd like to read it. It's a shame your library doesn't have the conclusion though!

If I showed you may list of main characters for this story, you would weep. #writerproblems
My original story line led into the AU that led into my fan fiction The Game. It was 'What if Will, along her path out of town, had turned left instead of right?' Basically, it was an AU where I tore her whole future away from her. From there, the story seems to have rewritten everything including the past. I kept the name of Will C. Morgen and one other character (who I liked so much I had to add to the original series, so I shouldn't really count them). Ah, if only I could mange a story that didn't turn into another story...and another...and ect. But I love making up history and pasts to much for that.
It's called Kamen Tantei. It's out of print, since it was published by the same company that used to make the Warriors graphic novel. >.< This is why I haven't easily gotten volume 4. Have to order it used, or something, I guess. My library probably used to have it, since it has 1-3. But it probably got damaged and they couldn't get a new one. Surprisingly, it appears that 1-3 still get read a lot.

Oooh, interesting. That's how it goes, though, huh. Too many ideas, and not enough time. I was talking to Tues the other day about writing a spinoff/prequel type comic to explore all the relationships that don't get enough time 'on screen', and I had to remind myself that I haven't even started drawing the actual comic yet, so a prequel had no place suddenly appearing. Same. Backstories are so much fun!
Ooh, I'll have to look it up. maybe I'll be able to find a used copy, or a copy to read online. Man, I love reading comics way too much XD

If I have the time, I don't have the motivation. If I have the motivation I rarely have the time. And when you actually sit down to write or draw or even simply plan the next part you find yourself struggling because you know it can be better. I've written the whole first book for this series. Only, it ended up as an AU story. XD It didn't follow the plan at all, and while good, I want to follow the plan I have as closely as possible for now. Because it would just become way to confusing otherwise. I don't want to work on an alternate reality series if I can't even write the main one. I have been playing around with the idea of having it be a graphic novel first, though. It's an interesting thought, at least. For some parts, I would just find it easier to capture it in drawings. Blech, you will now get me started on prequels. My whole The Game story is prequel at this point. It was supposed to start with my Poisoning the Sea comic. Then I wrote this short story for a contest by Brownie and a bunch for Tuesday, and suddenly I have two other main characters in the past. Rattlesnake went from being Scourge incarnate to a misunderstood leader. The distant war that shaped the tunnels in the comic becomes something that was only three generations back and still an open wound. It's really given my story a backbone, but that makes it so hard to write Poison without information overload going into affect, since I now have a lot more lore to work with than I did in the first draft. So much fun, but so much work. XD (And I'm just talking about my stories because I like comparing different styles and stuff with you, hope it doesn't sound like I'm making it all about my stuff. ^^' ) I've yet to see if I can find a copy online. I should probably look! Why didn't I think of that? Same. Comics are awesome.

I have never heard a truer thing in my whole life.
honestly, that's why I never plan writing out. I plan the beginning and the end, and have a rough idea of how I'm going to get there, but I typically leave the individual chapters to flesh themselves out. You can't deviate from the plan if you never had one in the first place xD Westward was unusual; as a comic, everything needed to be planned out in much more detail.
Wow, and I though I had prequel-writing problems O.o Rattlesnake sounds like such an interesting character, tbh. I must know more :0 Its so much fun, but like you said, its such hard work. I recently had to map out 800 years worth of family trees, and while it was fun, it was very time consuming and difficult. And it is still yet to serve an actual purpose...
[no, of course not! I love hearing about all your work!]
The internet is a wonderful place.

I usually write in much the same way. I have a beginning and and end and the middle sorts itself out. The Game works that way, at least within its smaller stories. But Will's original story (if I ever actually settle on a name for this story it would be amazing, but I haven't. So 'Will's Story' it will be called) had...I don't know. I needed to see it perfectly mapped out. I've never had so much need to write a story so well and in so much detail. I've been working on it for three years now and I seem to just like it more and more as I go along. It's not the type of story I feel can be planned out in my normal way. ^^'
I never even mentioned the type of problems I'm having with the original story. XD That's at least a little better, I think. I want to do a couple of short stories and one prequel trilogy. Another prequel book may also factor into it, if I decide to keep the side idea I had in the same universe. Oh boy. Rattlesnake. My love for him is only surpassed by my love for Will. He's the 'father' of the main character, a shape-shifter, and he started out as a character that I wanted to destroy the four main lake clans. I wrote a couple of stories that mentioned him for Tuesday's Challenges, but nothing really fleshed out him as a character. You may not remember, or have participated, in Brownie's contest to write a one-shot that was supposed to be unedited? That's the turning point for Rattlesnake as I tell the story from one of his cat's POV (a cat called Dream, who will become Rattlesnake's mate later on in the planning stage). Anyway, after I started writing that story I started to use Rattlesnake in RPs. I needed more cats for his group and lacked the motivation to create them. So I started roleplaying in kitcaves. After that, he started to turn from a heartless rogue to a rogue how had to much of a heart. He has to weigh his adopted family against a deadly prophecy and still try to protect the clan cats he hardly knows. Also, I love how I really can delve into his relationship with Dream more by telling things from his view point. I'm working on a story called 3 of Hearts which will center on what I hope to be an interesting love-triangle between him, Dream, and a she-cat called Kite. Who, I need to thank Shadow for, since I created the plot line in that writing workshop she made. Kite being Will's mother. And the story just gets really complicated from there. XD
( That's good, because you can guess how long I can talk on and on about this stuff. XD )
True.
I'm fine with it. Paranormal is an instant Yes! and I'm fine with mild gore.
