It was confirmed quite a while ago by Erin Hunter that once a cat from StarClan fades from all memory, they become a pale, ghost-like version of themselves that can never again visit dreams (for example), and they live out the rest of eternity alone and at peace.
Idk why, but in my opinion, being alone forever - regardless if you are in a state of peace - seems unsettling to me. If I were a Clan cat, living or dead, I would no doubt accept that this was my fate and that no cat can cheat death... but I would rather spend eternity surrounded by at least ONE cat, instead of wandering the fields of eternity for, well, eternity... forever alone. I know, it's technically not a bad type of alone - you have fulfilled your purpose in life and your soul is at peace... for all we know, maybe the cats that fade away don't even know that they still exist (in some way, shape, or form). But I would rather spend my life surrounded by cats that I love - such as my mate, if I ever had one - than to be by myself forever.
What is your opinion? (As in, do you agree with this statement (from your own perspective), or disagree?

The whole concept of fading came out of the Power of Three/Omen of the Stars period so I'm going to accept it as simply a stupid plot that came out of the dark time of terrible writing and bad decisions on the Erins part.

The whole concept of fading came out of the Power of Three/Omen of the Stars period so I'm going to accept it as simply a stupid plot that came out of the dark time of terrible writing and bad decisions on the Erins part. it's possible, but the I think that the idea is that the cats go to a different place, and can be called back to regular Starclan if there is a strong enough need for them... The ancient leaders were called back to effectively be used as soldiers against the Dark Forest... They were clearly angry about that...
Yet there was a joyous time of cats coming back when Skyclan was rebuilt and their ancestors returned... So fading may not be all that bad, depending on the circumstances...
I tend to think of it as something similar to Lovely Bones, where a person who goes to Heaven can see their family, but ultimately has to learn to let go of unresolved issues and accept their deaths... Once they do this, they go to a place simply known as "comfort", where they have everything they could ever want aside from being apart from loved ones who have not reached the place.
It would make sense too, because characters like Spottedleaf never accepted their deaths, so they would theoretically never fade and achieve comfort. Thus, the only way for characters like that to leave Starclan is dying twice...
If anything, fading should have been explained more, but like Starclan itself, that explanation won't ever see the light of day...

I thought I read on multiple occasions that (and do I quote?) that "once a cat fades from StarClan, they are reincarnated as another them. However, it takes so long to fade that no cat would recognize the reincarnation". I could have sworn I heard that.

However, it takes so long to fade that no cat would recognize the reincarnation". I could have sworn I heard that. I don't think so. Erin Hunter directly stated that once you are in StarClan, you can never be reincarnated again. The only hope of you being reincarnated is if 1) you were a special cat, such as one that was part of a prophecy, 2) the "exception" of cats like Cinderpelt/Cinderheart (note: a cat CANNOT fade from existence until they have accepted their lives and find the inner peace themselves), or if their reincarnation isn't StarClan-related (a controversial example of this would be the reincarnation of Lion's Roar, Dove's Wing, and Jay's Wing into Lionblaze, Dovewing, and Jayfeather; it is still uncomfirmed if they were reincarnated because of StarClan).
