Oh. OH! Rome's hands curled into fists at her side. It wasn't the she was woefully unaware of the rule of society. It was that she really did not care enough about them. At Kadin's words, she was taken aback some, though quickly covered it with a snicker. "Oh-ho. I'm sorry, mister, is a poor "commoner" not worth your precious time?" Gosh, it was disgusting to even say that out loud. "Commoner." It was as if Britain was living a century behind. She refused to use whatever title of nobility he had. "No doubt, you need plenty of time to keep up this, eh- gorgeous appearance. Much like peacock, I believe I heard the comparison once. That's besides the point. Mister, I was wonderin' if you were feeling alright today. You were acting awfully rude back there, and certainly no one of status would treat anyone so rudely. Don't the elites had etiquette class?"

IC :: "No, actually. A commoner is not worth the time talking to. It certainly makes me wonder why I even responded," He replied in an instant. This seemed to be trouble, but it wasn't as if he had places to be. Not yet at least, but it certainly would be a waste of time. He foresaw that. "And I believe you have me mistaken as I am not quite the bird you seem to believe I am. I doubt you've even seen a peacock in fact, so what would a filthy girl like you know? I certainly doubt anything about etiquette, considering it is rude in itself to speak to someone higher than you with such plain disrespect."

Rome grinned. This was how she coped with anger and frustration. Laughter and smiles. Generally, in a very disconcerting manner. "Filthy. Actually, a correct observation. That's the mark of someone who works hard, let me tell you." She laughed, wagging a finger as if she wore talking to a friend. She had a problem of doing that. "Now, Mister, you've got me caught there. I never took any etiquette anything. I was only thinking that, perhaps, it might not be a good idea to patronize those who serve you. They do everything for you after all!" She doubted that the man had ever done anything for himself. Waited on hand and foot. Hm. That must have taken a lot of people. The gears in Rome's head began to turn. What if she could get out of a factory once and for all. "In fact, I can't imagine you have nearly enough help around your manor!" She clasped her hands together, leaning forward slightly. Her tone had suddenly shifted to something noticably kinder and feminine, rather than her usual, raspy drawl. "If you ever needed more... Well, I have no etiquette training, but I'm very intuitive."

Washington turned towards the voice addressing him, looking a little confused before looking down at Roberta. Offering what appeared to be a lazy and sad smile he shook his head. "Please don't call me that, Washington will do just fine Miss Roberta, I don't really like all that master stuff," he mused,"um, as for tea, well i'm not quite sure. I have a couple other deliveries to make today. Like this one," he nodded to the crate on his shoulder he was holding up. "I believe it's more things for your tea," he explained, looking at the box before looking back down at her. "I would have brought it through the back door like I'm supposed to but I couldn't get it open and nobody answered, so I brought it through the front," he explained, shifting his weight a bit.

IC :: Kadin stated at her. He was going to respond to her remark about his patronizing ways, however then she continued speaking. He already found that bothersome, a woman who talked far too much thans she should. He narrowed his blue eyes suspiciously as her entire mood seemed to change, she seemed rather angry with him at first and now.... Kadin responded, "Are you suggesting I allow you to work for my family? Or am I simply misunderstanding you?"
She had just admitted she had no training in etiquette, it made him wonder what the hell she had to offer for skills. And why she suddenly bring it up after being so unlawfully rude to him. Who even was this girl? She served no introduction, she likely had no idea what his family name was as she came marching up to him out of the blue.

Rome laughed, waving her hand. "Well, allow makes that sound awful bad, now. But- yes. I may not have etiquette training or what have you, however I learned a thing or two from my mother. And I can do the work of a man, as well! Heavy lifting and the like." She crossed her arms over her chest to emphasize this point. There could be no doubt about her physical abilities. Doing manual labor for nearly the entirety of your life did wonders for one's physique. "I can do the work of two people. Take all the time you need to think about but I implore you, mister. There is a very clear choice here." Rome also happened to have the problem of over-confidence in situations where she should clearly not be confident.

IC :: Kadin scoffed, who did this girl think she was? "I don't even know your name, what makes you think I would take somebody off the streets trying to get a job? And otherwise, you picked the wrong person to beg to. My sister would pity you and accept, my father would certainly do that as well. My brother has no say, but he would vouch for you- and my mother would as well. But what makes you think I would take you up on the offer when I could get just about anybody to do what I need?"

IC :: "Ah yes, my father is taking his three children to go. Me included of course," she said with a small laugh. She took the tea to her mouth once more and took a sip, it got cooler and cooler each time she took a drink. The air no doubt cooling it. "It would silly if we missed it. It is a large event that nobility and royalty partake in. I'd expect to see several others I know around as well, ones I see less often than others."
She thought the event was beautiful, however she wasn't as keen this time around. Reasons unimportant that she could hide away from. What she did need to fear was babysitting duty, watching over her youngest brother as she had done in the past. It was likely it would happen again, her father had important people to talk to and he would likely drag Kadin around to try and find him some poor, compatible girl for her brother.
"I'm glad to hear that you will be attending, Lady Elizabeth." Corbin spoke simply, giving her a charming smile. "I suppose it'll be a grand chance for me to meet more nobility, as I don't know many." He mused. The maid came back and set down a small platter with three macrons surrounding a small cylinder-shape of strawberry-spong cake. On the first, beige-brown layer was a fluffy, vanilla cream and cold strawberry jam with another cake-layer over that. On the top it was lightly dusted with powdered sugar and a strawberry sat on top, caramelized in a bustling of lightly baked brown sugar. The macarons were almond-raspberry, blueberry creme and lavender honey. Also brought out was a light oolong tea that smelled of peach and orange blossoms.

Roberta giggled, imagining the poor young man tugging frantically on the back door to no avail. She gestured back towards the front door, "No worries my friend. Here, you make your way out and around, I'll open it from the inside." It was a touch strange that none had opened the door, but with a busy kitchen and most of the waitresses attending to customers, they must not have heard him knocking. She began to make her way back through the dining room, careful to not disturb any of the patrons as they enjoyed their tea. It seemed everyone was enjoying herself and she couldn't stop herself from glancing over to see if a certain someone was wanting for nothing. Granted, she knew better than to get involved with the nobility in that way, it would only end badly. Her mother had told her all of the stories she needed to hear on such situations. Still, there was no harm in looking, especially when it was such a beautiful sight.

IC :: "Oh certainly, it is a wonderful time to meet people of the same class. Your aunt is impressive for knowing as many as she knows personally. I barely recall who goes anymore, it seems each year I go there is somebody new for me to do," Elizabeth agreed. She nodded her head to the maid who brought his food, so he seemed to have a sweet tooth here. It was a rather delightful display of food. It was a shame that she wasn't in the mood for any delights or she may have just ordered the same thing. "Ah, how long ago did you arrive here Monsieur? I suppose less than a year, but you almost seem new to Britain."

"Oh! Pardon me, mister, forgetting my manners like that. My name is Rosemarie Casales. Most just call me Rome." The girl smiled, a little too brightly. This had been avery spontaneous, but now the more she thought, the more the life of a maid sounded wonderful. Considerably less labor, and probably, much better food. The scraps of the rich had to be better than stale bread or nearly sour meat. "I don't see anybody else walking up and requesting to help you. See, I'm eager to do so, mister. I can guarantee you you'll find no better help." Rome quietly cursed him in her mind, only a hopeful going making it to her eyes. It was no time for her temper to ruin things.

"Thank you Miss Roberta," he offered a small little smile before heading back out the door. Washington always did his best to avoid nobility, they were nothing but trouble and gossip. Of course there were times where they couldn't be avoided like when he was working at his bar, but most time he was good at evading them. He made his way around to the back door and waited patiently for it to be opened up.

IC :: As he spoke she supposed she should finish off her own sweetened black tea. Elizabeth was enjoying their conversation, though she wished her brother didn't just leave as he did. Monsieur Corbin did not seem all that bad. "Ah, well it's a lucky thing you have? What do you think of Britain so far? Was it what you expected coming here or a little more difficult than you originally thought it would be?"
Elizabeth supposed it would be bias if she wanted to describe of her love for Great Britain. it was a beautiful place, and though she had visited a few countries, she didn't believe any could top the life found here. After all, it was such an interesting place in her opinion, she loved it. There was always someone new and interesting to talk to, though she reasoned that there were strangers in other countries as well that may be interesting.

"It's no surprise as you were brought up with no teachings on etiquette," Kadin murmured to himself rather annoyed. "Rome is an odd nickname for the name Rosemary I would say. Though I suppose your entire being fits the word odd. What type of work do you expect yourself doing if I even gave you the chance to meet with my father and see if he will accept you working for my family?"
Kadin supposed he must have been slightly amused at the way she begged for a job to even bother considering briefly. But of course, it was not his decision in the end, but rather his father's choice. As his father was the Duke and obviously the highest position in their family, none could just do something without his permission if it involved the family.

"Britain wasn't what I expected. It's far more quiet in comparison with Paris and the etiquette is different along with social standings, since France's own social standings took a turn for the worse a while back after the fall of the second empire. It's nice to be under Queen Victoria rather than Napoleon III and there's a lot less going on here in Britain than in France." Corbin informed her, pausing to take a sip of his tea before continuing. "One thing I do very much enjoy in Britain is High Tea. It's quite relaxing, after all, and I feel it's the only time I'm able to read Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, a gift from the Marchioness upon my arrival." He let out a small laugh at the end of his comments before inquiring his own thoughts, "Mademoiselle, what is your favorite thing about Britain?" He took the rest of his lavender-honey macron and finished it before picking up his tea-cup, ready to take another sip as he waited to hear her answer.

They have such interesting lives, I wouldn't have guessed otherwise!" Elizabeth explained with a gleeful smile as she spoke in an almost daydreaming state. Sure, there was simpler, more enjoyable things in Britain than talking with simple peoples. But still, "I find it an absolute joy- but it is something I prefer to keep on the downlow. There are already rumours that my family dislikes, and anyone knowing I converse with the lower classes is not well for destroying those rumours," No matter how true they may be, "So if you wouldn't mind keeping it a secret."

Roberta wove back through the busy kitchen, expertly navigating the chaos to try and prevent irritating the chefs. They were always rather irritable and grumbling, but luckily their day was winding down and they seemed to be calming down just a little. Making her way to the back door without incident, she found a rather large box blocking it and let out an irritated snort. Of course. With a heave, she shoved the box free and opened the door, greeting Christopher with a warm smile, "Here you are, come on in." She took a step back to clear the path and give him space to come in.

As she spoke, Corbin took an inaudible sip of his tea before placing it onto the table once more. He set his fork through is Strawberry sponge cake and took the bite clean from his fork before setting the silver gently on the plate. He was surprised that there could be bad rumors surrounding Mademoiselle Elizabeth's family. When she'd finished speaking, he made his replies. "I suppose there are rumors surrounding most nobility and I understand that you wouldn't want it becoming worse. Lady Elizabeth, I will not say a word to a single soul about the things you've shared with me." He promised, knowing that it was one he wold not break. The thought of her family going to ruins because of some rumors made his eyes cloud with worry, but only for a second before it disappeared from his eyss. Corbin did not want to burden her by taking note of his concern so he continued. "I do agree that the less rich lead interesting lives," as is how most French are, with there being barely any nobility figures now, "and I've associated myself with them as well. Part of why I left my family's footman to stay at home is because it felt wrong to have a person waiting on me." It was the truth, he wasn't use to it and they were all people, money aside.

IC :: "Thank you very much Monsieur," Elizabeth said gratefully with a polite smile, nodding her head once at him. She was rather glad he had not seemed to hear about the rumours pertaining to her mother's.... kinship. It would likely cause her father to lose some power, and for her engagement to go to shambles. It ruin any chances of Kadin finding a wife among nobility as the rumours claimed the Malandra children had a commoner mother born from Spain, hence her barely tanned skin and brown hair. Kadin got their mother's dark black hair, though he was saved of dark skin as well luckily, and their little brother having a fine copy of their father's golden blonde hair. However even he came with a slight deformity. All three had pure blue eyes, not a trace of her mother's dark brown ones. "And I am relieved to hear I am not the only one to do so, people are people however some nobles don't seem to understand that. It's a shame to see them treated poorly, but the best we can do is make sure they have good lives and things are not too difficult on them, though it seems to be easiest for the ones who work for us to get the better lives than others of the same class."

Rome was genuinely shocked at how well this was going. This look of surprise- with a bit of confusion -crossed her features for only a beat. IC :: "New York?" Kadin lightly questioned, so the woman was not from here? He only had assumptions, but he pushed back the possible idea of anything pertaining to the sort. Unimportant at the time being. Kadin was rather unamused with himself for bothering to even try and figure out her origins. Origins, they were irritating and stupid and absolutely pointless to look at, unless you just so happened to be a part of a high class- ugh. "Should I be offended that you say that, or would you rather me act as though you didn't say something that might very well cost a potential career?" A small jesting tease, almost. If she was willing to do and say things such as that, then she wouldn't be very welcomed. After all, it was quite easier for him to get away with a few rude words, but for somebody such as her.... It wasn't so pleasant.

Rome nodded. "New York." She grinned. "Come on now, you're supposed to have a higher education, aren't ya? Surely the accent gave it away?" With a quirked eyebrow, she could only shake her head. Not to mention her light brown skin tone. She doubted there were many of Cuban decent in Britain. With an exaggerated shrug, she answer with a simple, "As a commoner, I'm too stupid to answer that question for myself." She was really playing her luck here, but it was kind of fun to say these things to a Noble's face rather than utter them behind their backs. "Anyways, any plans on taking me to meet your father. Rome scoffed. Somehow he had turned that back around on her. Astounding. She felt the bitterness rise within her again. "At least the French foolishly went back to a British way of life. I'm even worse than him." The girl snorted, narrowing her eyes at Kadin almost accusingly. Why he wouldn't bother to read up on America baffled her, considering they had run her country not too long ago. "Anyways, shouldn't we be getting to your father to make that decision. I'm sure I can convince him that I am more than capable of attending to nobility." It couldn't be that hard, right?

"Hmm, I'm just gonna charge the usual amount I always do," he informed her as he turned back to the woman. "Miss Roberta, was that man from earlier giving you a hard time?" He asked, his sad features not matching up with his tone of disgust. How could someone be so rude to someone as kind as the woman before him? He usually never got involved with nobility, but he'd make an exception here and there. Especially if they happened to be rather rude to his friends.

"Yes," Corbin agreed, "It is quite a shame. I once snuck down into the 'servants'" the last word carried an edge of disgust as he spoke, but it was toward the name, not him being there, "quarters to try help with the dinner arrangements. I was doing well until my aunt got word. She nearly threw a fit trying to get me out of there." He gave a small laugh. "She just wouldn't allow it." He then took another sip of his tea, studying her again. "So, tell me, does your betrothed share your ideals?" He asked, his eyes gesturing to the ring before looking back at her. IC :: "Ah yes, I suppose we'll just have to see if my father thinks of you important enough to meet up with. Perhaps he will take kinder to your predicament than I would," His father was quite stupid when it came to peasants, it was something Kadin could not stand about his father. His sister was foolish enough to follow his way of life, ignorant even as she acted that it would not harm her image. The rumours about the Malandras were bad enough for their image already, and bloody hell he absolutely hated those rumours. It was just good they had not confirmed yet that his mother was a commoner, from Spain or otherwise. "He will likely meet with you at the new tea house, after all he has been meaning to visit the place himself. It's a popular place despite the annoying people who work there and how the drinks are not too delightful. Despite those factors, I will tell him to meet with you there, say tomorrow?"
--
Elizabeth looked down at her hand. "Ah, so you did notice that? It is not an arrangement I favour. He is a well man, and he has a form of care for his servants, however he isn't fond of lower classes. It is simply the way he views it, if they wished to become richer than they should be trying harder, it is an interesting idea of his, but not one I agree with. I've met him twice since our engagement was announced, thrice in all. My father wishes to marry off his two eldest children, my littlest brother is not fit to be married off, and he managed to make a deal with a noble family in France that still manages to stand. The marriage itself is not for another year or so, luckily." Elizabeth left out the part where she was the only one currently engaged, her youngest brother too disabled to be wed and Kadin's personality was a rater offsetter for any potential match.
