... and though it might be really good, it's painfully obvious how biased a lot of the individual MAP part makers are?
So a MAP called Roxanne- about Ashfur, Brambleclaw, and Squirrelflight- is almost finished, and several of the parts are released already. It's very well-done and a lot of the lip-syncing are right on point, but I've noticed how each animator is painting the story. One moment it'll show Ashfur looking extremely evil and overly dramatic, the next it'll portray Squirrelflight as a cheezy flirt and overly-romantic towards Ashfur, and then Ashfur's back to his rage fit in the next part. A similar thing would happen now and then, with a few neutral parts popping up every once and a while- and while the whole map, in general, is obviously biased against Ashfur (It kinda has to because of the choice of music tbh), it's still kinda obvious how each animator feels about the situation.
I've seen that happen with other controversial character maps- like Hollyleaf or Hawkfrost- and not that it's all that bad- I just find it amusing how I'll often be watching a MAP and seeing so many mixed messages.
But anyway, regardless of biased the Roxanne map is actually looking really good no matter how you feel about Ashfur.
DISCLAIMER: The following discussion is not Pro-Ashfur OR anti-Brambleclaw, it's simply a game of devil's advocate just get us looking at our standpoints a bit better. You don't have to change them to reconsider them- and staring at this post on a website about fictional cats might even strengthen your already strong standpoints even more.
And in a way, the MAP is kind of making me realize just how... well... complicated the love triangle really was. How... in a strange, twisted way, Ashfur really did get his revenge on Squirrelflight.... even if it was indirect. Ashfur threatened The Three, which caused Hollyleaf to go nuts, which caused her to tell the truth, which caused Squirrelflight's life to go crashing down.
And it also made me get a better look at Brambleclaw. Despite everything that's happened, I still hold a neutral opinion of him, yet as I watch this MAP, even though people might scream "It's biased against Brambleclaw he isn't that sweet and caring" but... like... did it really portray that? All I saw in the MAP was Brambleclaw pledging his allegiance to Squirrelflight, wanting to protect her, and wanting to be with her no matter what. Yet, strangely similar to Ashfur himself, he wasn't able to in the end. In the end, both Ashfur and Brambleclaw were screaming in rage. In the end, both Ashfur and Brambleclaw lost it.
So that begs the question- how different are Brambleclaw and Ashfur, really? Both went through heartbreak, and both took it really badly- and most can agree that Ashfur and Brambleclaw went too far in their pain. Sure, I'm aware that Ashfur went so far as to attempt murder, but at their cores, was one really better than the other?
Just food for thought.
