I've always liked Mothwing, although I don't like how she's.. weak around her brother. She shouldn't have let Hawkfrost control her, but in the end she didn't care if he told the Clan about her secret.
But she's loyal to her Clan, and she even wanted to help Jayfeather, despite her lack of faith in StarClan. She even lost faith in StarClan for a pretty good reason - because of her own brother!
I don't think she should have been a medicine cat in the first place if she didn't believe in StarClan, but in the end they managed to work it out. Feathertail asked Leafpool to train Willowshine and she now gives messages from StarClan to her leader.
Unfortunately, Mothwing makes a lot of mistakes, but I still can't dislike her for that. I find her to be a very supportive character, even though she doesn't believe in StarClan.

I like Mothwing, and she has a really interesting arc, but it doesn't make sens that she's still a non-believer when literal hell cats rise up from the dead and try to fight her and her loved ones.

When she became a medicine cat apprentice she still believed in StarClan and the fact that StarClan shared a dream with her at the Moonstone showed that they had accepted her. She only lost faith after Hawkfrost told her he had planted the sign. She began to think her dream at the Moonstone was just a normal dream. As for her being a non-believer even though StarClan cats can appear before living cats, I'm just gonna copy/paste part of my previous post on another Mothwing thread:
The thing is, Mothwing and Cloudtail not believing in StarClan actually made sense at first. Because even though StarClan cats can appear before living cats it is stated by StarClan that they can't reach Mothwing because she doesn't believe. So, in order for them to manifest themselves to a living cat, even in a dream, that cat needs to believe in StarClan's existence. Or else they wouldn't be susceptible to them, so to speak.
However, the battle against the DF threw this logic down the drain. I can't remember but is it mentioned Mothwing fought against DF warriors? Actual dead ones? Because that wouldn't make sense. Following the logic they used up until then she should of just seen living cats fighting thin air. And that's what bothers me about it really. This inconsistency in The Last Hope that ignores a logic that made sense (and that I really liked the idea of).
As for a non-believer becoming medicine cat, I think it's fine. She's a capable healer and that's the most important part. After all, it's not like StarClan can't send a sign to Mistystar if it were really urgent. (in case they wouldn't have Willowshine). They used to send sign to leader or random warriors more often. I do think however that she should have been honest with her lack of faith much sooner, at the very least with her leader, so Mistystar knew not to rely on her for omens. After all, Mothwing is well aware of how important the other Clancats think StarClan to be.
Overall I really love Mothwing. It's hard not to like her and I agree that even if she makes mistakes she is a good,, supportive cat which makes her difficult to dislike. I like her friendship with Leafpool a lot too. I just wish we could've seen more of her and Hawkfrost from before their relation grew sour. Well, ideally I wish it had never grown sour at all.

I like Mothwing. I think she is an interesting character who has flaws, but tries to overcome them. I do wish that she and Hawkfrost had a good relationship though. They have ok moments for a bit. I'm also glad that she helps others, like that time when she helped Sorreltail and Leafpaw.
