"I totally get it." He said his gaze going down to the table. "i'll do my best to be a good one" he said and gave a slight smile he wasn't certain how he'd be but he wanted to be the best she'd had. He just hoped one day thinfs wouldn't go wrong between them (which of course it will ) regardless of what happened he just hoped they'd be friends because he didn't have enough of those.

Maria gave a small smile and nodded. "Thank you." It made her a little sad that she had reason to be grateful for something so simple as a promise that he'd try but she did. "It's your turn now," she said, tone brightening again. "Tell me something about yourself that I wouldn't think to ask you about."

(Sorry I disappeared for a bit)
Astro took a minute to think, "i'm pretty sure there isn't anything crazy or special about me honestly." He said after awhile. He smiled as he said it but he was serious. There wasn't a thing he could think of that would interest her in any way. "But i mean if there's anything you'd like to know then now would be the time to ask" he said as he looked up to her. "Oh! I did almost die in a freak accident and I have the scar to prove it." He spoke up quickly

( I went to sleep around that time myself, so you're perfectly alright. )
Maria was about to specify when he blurted out something about freak accidents. She raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? What happened?" she asked, genuinely curious. Death was something she and the others like her shared with humanity, wounds and scars were the same no matter what you were. She'd always found that to be kind of a relief.

"Okay, so." He began with a smile "I was out with some friends, right? Having a few drinks sad to say. Worst choice of my life" he said with a laugh afterwards. "So we were at my old friends place and we had never even tried alcohol before. So this was something crazy to me and it was fun while it lasted but never again." He shook his head at is past stupidity. "So uhm, we were messing around and i managed to end up hoisting my friend up to the roof and he pulled something off of the roof trying to climb up and it landed on me and it had way too many shard edges and it was super flimsy so I had basically gotten stabbed three times and the edges broke off so I had to get them surgically removed that night." He laughed thinking back at that night. It was fun but the fact it almost killed him was very stupid and he knew that.

( haha, happens to the best of us ^^ )
Maria had to stifle a laugh. It wasn't funny, she reminded herself, only it kind of was. "Hang on," she said, raising a hand. "You got stabbed by roof peices? How drunk were you?" She was grinning as she spoke, incredibly amused. You'd think that a life of 120 years would give her more of these stories, but the sheer amount of them that hinged on alcohol consumption was surprising. Now that the only way she could comfortably ingest alcohol was through someone else's blood, she'd cut that factor out. No time spent drunk in the ER for her.

"You should consider the fact it was my FIRST and last time drinking, okay?" He said still laughing at himself. "I had like five shots and a beer it wasn't a whole lot.... or I at least thought it wasn't." He said with that same childish grin on his face as always. "But yeah I spent three hours getting some weird material from this guys roof out of my side. It was pretty bad but wuite the story!" He finished off his drink afterwards and rubbed the side that had been stabbed

Maria shook her head. "Five shots and a beer," she muttered, still humoured by the whole thing. "You don't drink, then?" she asked. That, at least, was a relief. She'd never landed in a position like that herself, but she'd heard stories from others who were paired with a heavy drinker and then spent most of their life either tipsy or hung over. "Me neither, obviously."

"I haven't since that day, honestly" Astro answered with a nod of his head. "I mean maybe one day I will but only if I'm certain I'll be safe, you know?" He said as he looked over to her "but then again it's tough to trust myself even after that one time." He scratched the back of his head and checked the time "we still have a lot of daylight left." He stated in a more cheerful way "is there anything you'd like to do?" He asked curiously

Maria shrugged. "I mean, I'm not exactly used to having free time. It's been a while." She was silent for a while, then said, carefully. "Maybe head out to the lake? I always did love the water." She'd grown up on the shores of Spain, of course she loved the water. "You don't have to come with me if you don't want to," she said hurriedly. "But I think I want to go either way. Make the most of my days, you know?"

"Honestly, I'd love to. It's been some time since I've went for a swim or anything of the sort." He answered and took a look around for a garbage can. Once he spotted one he got up and made his way over and threw what was left of the coffee he had away. "I have a car if you want to get there sooner." He stated as he made his way back over to where they were seated "and yeah I get what you mean. But I honestly feel like we might not have a ton of work to do but I can't promise anything yet"

Maria smiled and nodded. "Thanks. That'd be nice." She stood, her coffee cup still in hand. "It's still your time, though," she pointed out, not unkindly, as she walked the few feet to the nearest bin. "If I get time to myself, it'll be because you gave it to me and not because I've done all I needed to do. But now is all mine." She shrugged, not wanting to linger on the topic for too long. Not yet. She threw the almost empty cup into the bin, not bothering to drain it.

All Astro did was nod in silence. She was right. He really didn't want her to feel like it was a chore just being around him but that would be hard to change. He walked outside and pulled out his phone and called for someone to drop off his car. "It'll be here in a few minutes" he stated as he went to sit down outside on a bench. He wasn't sure if he had wanted to try and talk to her again because of the fear he might say something wrong again and have her seem like she could care less if he was around, which he felt was true regardless of what he would do. He figured she would take any chance to be away from him whenever the opportunity came. He looked up towards the sky as he was clearly lost in thought over something

Maria wasn't sure if she should regret pointing the flaw in his logic out because Astro had gone so quiet. She wondered if she'd upset him somehow, but quickly realised that she didn't really care. She'd told nothing but the truth, and if that bothered him then so be it. That didn't make it any less factual, nor any less her reality. "So you have people you can call to fetch your car, then?" she asked as she sat down next to him, sounding surprised. She wasn't.

""Just another perk of being part of my family I guess." He replied, not really looking at her but more avoiding eye contact. "You say it like you're surprised." He added afterwards with a chuckle. He didn't want to sound self centered and pull the 'do you know who I am?' card because he figured he didn't need to seem more prissy and stuck up. He wasn't sure if she was seeing him as a friend or another curse. But he wanted to find out as soon as possible.

"A little," Maria said, though it wasn't the truth. "I mean, I know who you are. Or, I know who you are to the public anyway. Still, though. The idea is a little strange. I'm going to be a part of it soon, one way or another." This much was true. After being with lower middle class and a working class man for the last few decades, it was strange to be expected to slot into Astro's circles. A huge opportunity, but strange nonetheless.

Astro merely shook his head "Don't get used to it. It's not something to see as a gift, honestly." He said as the car arrived, he got up and started making his way towards the car. It wasn't anything fancy or special just something he was to use to get around wherever that may be. As the person who drove the car to them got out he was handed the keys. "Thanks" he mumbled as he got in. "C'mon lets go" he called to her as he rolled the passenger side window down

"Oh, believe me, I don't get used to things," Maria said with a faint smile as she stood and walked over, opened the door and slipped inside. Despite the humour in her tone, she was entirely serious. She looked at things with the kind of perspective only someone who'd lived as long as she could, and she could with absolute confidence say that things were changing constantly. If she'd ever let herself get used to the way things were, she'd still be living in the twentieth century. That meant that everything was new and a little surprising to her on a shallow level, but it also meant she wasn't totally useless when it came to the ever-evolving technology around her or lost in a new situation. It was worth it.

"I'm glad then." Astro said as he put the keys in the ignition and started the car before putting on his seat belt and driving off. He didn't say much as he drove but it seemed almost as if there was a tension between the two. He felt she strongly disliked him and wanted nothing to do with him but they both knew she had no choice.

Maria didn't seem affected by the tension-laden silence. She'd been through it before, after all. There was always a period of time during which both parties in a partnership felt that the other wanted nothing more than escape, and a period of time where that was at least partially true. If she let it bother her, she'd be leading a miserable life. Besides, she had more important things to worry about.

As he pulled into the parking lot nearest to the lake he stopped and turned the car off. "Here we are" he said bluntly as he got out and took a look at the water and smiled. He never got out into nature enough and was glad he had a reason of sorts to be out there. He made his way down to the shore and picked up a few flat rocks to skip.

Marai followed him out, a smile forming on her face as soon as she saw the water. She'd come out here daily since her previous companion's death, making up for years of lost time. It wasn't the same as the Mediterranian sea, no lake would ever compare, but it was so much better than nothing. "Thanks for driving me out here when you didn't have to," she said as she walked up to him, pausing for a moment to give him a genuine smile. Then, with what might have been a giggle, she kicked her shoes off and walked to stand in the water, ignoring how cold it was against her skin.

Astro nodded and forced a smile out, he made it look real but was really off about the situation so far. "It's the least I could do" he then said as he took a seat in the sand he started drawing little doodles with his finger "what were the beaches like? Where you grew up?" He asked as he continued drawing in the sand. Astro thought starting small talk would be a good thing to do at the time

"Warm," Maria replied, curling her toes into the wet sand. "And bright. The sand was always really yellow and I've never seen a bluer sky." She sighed. It had been so long since she'd last been back to Spain, but she never really missed it anymore. It had been too long. "I lived in a Spanish beach town for the first fifteen years of my life," she said, turning around to face him again. "So I probably spent more time on the beach and in the sea than in my own bedroom. Then, after the war, we started moving around. But I think my parents loved the ocean just as much as I do because they never moved us inland. I loved them for that."

"That sounds amazing, honestly. I'm sorry it was taken away like that." Astro commented, he meant every word he had said but figured it wouldn't mean much to her. "Do you think one day you'd ever go back? If the opportunity came, that is" he asked trying to keep a good conversation going with her but trying to avoid anything that would trigger a bad response or a negative topic

Maria nodded again. "Yeah, I think so. It'll have changed so much in the last hundred years, but it'd be good to see it all again. At the same time, I don't really miss it. It's not home anymore, and that's okay." She was silent for a while, then asked, "Where did you grow up?" She couldn't be the only one answering questions, that was the opposite of her job description.

"Well I was raised along the coast as well. Nothing ss exotic as spain but still a coast nonetheless." Astro answered softly. "I was born and raised in a small town on the west coast of Canada. Before my dad decided we needed a change of scenery that is. But it wasn't the nicest town to live in so I can't complain much. The people were awful there wasn't anything to do if you didn't have any friends or family outside of town to visit. I guess I either spent my days indoors reading or outside at the park trying to enjoy whatever was around at the time, you know? It was pretty lonely to say the least." He never really liked to think back to his childhood but he wasn't going to refuse to answer any of her questions as she'd find out one way or another with how much time they'd be spending together

Maria nodded as he spoke. Having had a mostly good childhood herself, at least until the war broke out, she couldn't complain, but it sounded like Astro could. She didn't envy that. "I'm sorry," she said with an apologetic smile. "That it was lonely, I mean." She sighed, stepping out of the water finally. Even a vampire's toes could go numb. She settled down in the sand right be the water so that she could trail her fingers along the surface of it as she thought, and she did think, falling into a thoughtful silence again.

"There's no need to say sorry, what's done is done." He stated with a smile he watched her quietly wondering what was going through her mind but didn't have the guts to openely just ask what she was thinking about so he just kind of sat there, his hands still running back and forth through the sand
