"I in no means am trying to be rude, my apologies. I was promised if I were to get you then I'd be free to go and wouldn't have to worry about anything until this was all over" he said with a slight sigh "I was also promised that if I were to do this I wouldn't need to worry about food or the essentials around here and that it would be all covered for me and my brother" he admitted hoping to gain some level of friendship with her although he knew that wasn't going to help him in any way. He then realized he still had a grip on her and blushed awkwardly as he let her go "you're free to do as you like in here but anything outside I'll need to be close at your side" he then mentioned "anything you may need you can ask me and I'll do my best to be at your service. Seeing as this was forced upon you I'd like to make it as comfortable as possible"

At this, Alice turned her head to finally view her captor. She hoped that he was a grotesque looking man, who looked ungroomed. He was quite the opposite though. He was quite handsome for someone of his profession, and for someone who was as scarred as he was. Though, she would never say it to his face, and certainly will not fantasize about him. "You are by far the oddest captor I have ever heard of. Why do you want to make me comfortable? Why would you protect me from comments like your...whatever he is to you." She motioned to the other man by the door. "I just don't understand." She shook her head.

He let out a small sigh "I'd love to explain this to you but I can't seem to find a reason myself, honestly." He answered as he took a seat "and that was my little brother. Expect to see him around if I'm to be keeping watch over you. He may be a pest but once you get to know him he's better than he seems I promise" he cleared his throat as he took a look around as he himself had never really been inside this so called house. "Would you like anything to drink? Or food, perhaps?" He asked curiously as he looked at her for probably the first time since seeing her in the tunnels. He thought she was oddly attractive but figured it meant nothing as she would most likely be gone in a week or so and would never see him again

Alice shook her head and made her way to one of the windows of the house. Her arms were still crossed, and she rubbed her upper arms in an attempt to warm herself up. She didn't realize how cold she was until now. She was only so focused on her captor situation instead of her well being. "I want nothing you have to offer." She said firmly. She would have to eat eventually, but right now was not eventually. It was now. "But I can think of a reason. You told me you would explain all of this. And then, you refuse to." So now not only was he a kidnapper, but a hypocrite as well.

"I can explain why I was to take you... hostage?" He said he wasn't exactly sure what she was to them but he knew what was going on. "My people feel they're being forgotten and believe they deserve more. They think that as long as they have you they might get their way." He then noticed her basically shivering from the cold. He got up and took his jacket off, being the only thing he could think of doing, he walked over and put it over her shoulders "as much as you don't like this you still need to stay warm. And this is all I can think of to keep you warm for now." He said in hopes of changing the subject.

Alice didn't know his people were being neglected. She didn't know they existed. But how is that her fault? She can't help them except for ransom money. Unless that's what they wanted in the first place. She was pulled out of her thoughts when she felt a heavy material set on her shoulders and looked to see what it was. It was a cloak, and definitely not her's. It was his, and as much as wanted to throw it down on the ground, she knew she felt warmer. Alice wrapped it tightly around herself to keep in her body heat. "Kidnapping me won't do them any good. How do they know my family will do anything anyway?"

He listened to what she had said as he kneeled down at a small fireplace nearby. "You ask me like I know. I just do what it takes to help me and my little brother survive. If you haven't noticed it's not exactly plentiful in food or water out here" he answered rudely. He felt as if anything to do with him or his brother was not to be spoken of by others. He then got up and found the materials he needed to start the fire and made his way back to the fireplace. It took a minute but he got the fire started and then took a seat nearby

Alice fell silent after his words. It wasn't out of pity, but because she didn't know how to argue with that logic. She shifted her weight on her feet and stood in silence in the presence of the two brothers. Until he changed the subject that is. "What am I to address you as?" She asked casually so it was neither rude nor too polite. "And your brother as well?" She figured he needed to be addressed at one point of another. It was best to get it out of the way now.

"I'm Erin, and that's my little brother, Ethan." He answered calmly as he looked towards his younger "actually, Ethan. Don't you think you should be helping out around the others?" He asked, althought he knew the answer. He knew his little brother had things to do.
"Do I have to?" He whined as he looked back to his older brother
"Of course you do. We need food for tonight and I have to watch her." He stated and pointed towards Alice "oh, and what is your name?" He asked curiously as his little brother had been getting ready to leave

Both of their names started with the letter 'E' she had noticed. And since Alice wasn't very good with names, she figured she was bound to mix them up at some point. But she was surprised that Erin didn't know her name. She assumed he would have to be well informed about her before going on this sort of mission to take her hostage. But she didn't mention it. "I'm Alice. Alice Taylor."

"Alice. Nice to meet you, Alice." He said very politely as he looked her way, his gaze then went back to his little brother Ethan, "now get out of here kiddo" he joked with a chuckle
"Whatever, Erin" Ehan answered as he opened the door "seeya later miss" he then said as he closed the door. He hadn't caught her name but nonetheless figured it didn't matter to him
Erin got up from his seat and took a look around for some food and surprisingly he found enough for the two of them in the kitched of the small building he brought it back into the room she was in and set it down "it's here for whenever you get hungry" he said as he sat leaned up next to a wall near the fire

Maria considered this for a moment. She wasn't hungry and human food had a tendency to make her nauseous, not ill but just a little uncomfortable, so it wasn't as though she'd be eating anyway. "I'm not really that hungry," she said. "So maybe just to a cafe or something? We could grab a coffee and like a muffin, maybe?" That also didn't scream awkward conversations. Coffee shops were good as they didn't require constant chatter. If, on the off chance they ran out of things to talk about, that would be okay.

Astro nodded and gave a smile, he figured coffee sounded nice at the time and wouldn't have a problem with the idea. "that sounds great to me." He replied as he thought of the nearest cafe, which he wasn't sure the name of. "Shall we be on our way?" He asked as he began to walk along the parks walkway, towards the plaza where the cafe was located.

Maria nodded and fell into step beside him. "So," she started, somewhat awkwardly. "Have you ever had a vampire companion before?" She knew that some people burned through them quickly, the cruel men and women who believed that working their vampires to the grave was perfectly alright or those worse yet that had crimes pinned upon them just to rid themselves of the 'bloodsucking parasites'. She had to know if Astro was another like that, before she got to the important things she'd pass on up.

"Strangely enough, I have not! Though i remember my older brother and his companion but neither of them were really around for long." He answered with a shrug "honestly I have no idea how this works, the whole idea of having you practically a slave to my call doesn't sound right, you know?" He then added as he made his way down the path. He figured the ordeal to be wrong in many ways but thought it could be helpful in some so he'd go along with it while it lasted, however long that may be.

"It doesn't, no," Maria replied, sounding both relieved and a little sad. She understood why it was done. Humanity outnumbered her kind greatly, but a vampire could overpower a human with ease. Something had to be done to keep them from going on a rampage. But the victors made the rules, and they rarely took the losers into account. "I guess it means I don't have to kill to eat, but it's not always it seems like a fair trade." She shrugged as though the matter was out of hands. She realised that for the first time, it wasn't. She was working to change it.
"It's usually up to you how you want it to work," she explained. "I know vampires who are kept as personal attendants and follow their companions around constantly. I know others who live lives entirely separate from their companions except for their daily feeding when they receive tasks to do the next day, running errands and that sort of thing. Others just befriend each other and ignore all the legalities. But I don't get to make that call, it's all up to you."

"Honestly I'm not sure how this is going to go. It'll definitely takentime for me to figure this out but try to relax as long as you can, because lately things have been quite hectic and I have no idea when I may need your help." He said as they arrived in the plaza, the cafe now in sight, as they arrived at the door he held it open for her as a kind gesture. He fogured they should be friends in this situation as they were most likely to be seeing each other daily at almost every hour of the day.

Maria nodded, stepping inside with a grateful smile. "Thanks for being honest about it," she said. At least, she thought he was. She had no way of proving it. "I'd much rather you tell me that you're unsure than having you lie about it. There's usually a period at the beginning of a partnership where the whole thing is new and routines haven't been settled yet, so it's good you know that already." She'd been with three different humans before, so she knew this well. The first few weeks were always strange for both parties, on some level at least.

Astro followed her in and went to place an order, when he was done he sat down at a table near the window like he usually would. "Could I ask what it's like? To be of your kind? I've honestly always wondered. " he asked with a curious look on his face, "and I mean aside from being forced to do things against your will of course" he then added as he looked over to her. The idea of being a vampire was strange to him. And finding out what it was like was never an option until now so he thought he would take the opportunity to ask

Maria placed her own order, a cappuccino, and followed him to the table. "Being a vampire in itself isn't that different. I mean, there's the bloodlust, but if you eat regularly that's easily manageable, and sunlight is uncomfortable, but other than that and our all around athletic superiority I don't thnk we live lives that are too different. It's just we lost a war and now we're taking the consequences. We're not exactly valued members of society. It's in the little things." She shrugged again. "I guess it's hard to explain, given that I barely remember being human. I have nothing to compare it to, really."

He nodded as he listened. "I see, I've always really wondered how it was honestly. But I guess you would be right there aren't many differences." He said before taking a sip of his drink. "How long has it been?" He asked, "since you were human, I mean." He added afterwards "and what is it like? When you don't get enough blood on time?" He fogured this would be useful information since she would be working for him and if he hadn't managed to get her blood on time things may go wrong in one way or another.

Maria had to think about that. How long had it been? "95 years," she said eventually. "Not that long, really. But you never think about what it's like to be human until you're not anymore." She sipped her drink carefully, figuring that the slower she went the better she'd feel later. "It's painful," she said with a sigh. "I don't know how else to explain it. And you get so hungry. You know what you have to do to get rid of the pain, and your body is screaming at you to just do it."

"Wow you are... old, to say the least." He joked with a laugh but then heard the talk about the hunger. "That's hardcore. I'll make sure it doesn't get like that for you, or I'll at least do my best" he said trying to be as honest as possible. He figured honesty would be the best choice with her. Especially if he wanted to have trust between the two of them, which was definitely needed if they were to get along and not worry about getting into any disagreements. He took another sip of his drink and took a look around

Maria laughed at that. "Or maybe you're just really young," she suggested with a teasing grin, sipping her drink again. Vampires weren't immortal, but they also didn't age. You could kill one as easily as you could a human, a gunshot to the chest or even a well-placed blow was all it took, but natural causes had never ended a vampire's life. "Thanks," she said with a small smile. "I'll let you know if things start getting difficult." She hoped it wouldn't come to that. Usually, it didn't. Vampires needed to feed often, sure, but not as often as humans by any means. Five or six times a week was as much as it took to be comfortable.

"Maybe I'm too young and you're just too old" he joked with a smirk. He was glad they were able to joke about these things and not have it be tense all the time he took a drink again and then nodded "please do, it'll be good to make sure things don't go bad with that kind of stuff" he said as he gave a smile. "So, tell me about yourself!" He said with a smile, he decided he should get to know her more as another person than a vampire that he gets to boss around for next to no reason at all

"What do you want to know?" Maria asked. It was a broad question, she was immediately unsure of herself and any answer she might have given. Did he want to know about her experiences or about what her life looked like? She had no answer for the second, other than what it had been a few decades ago. Did he want to know shallow facts or deeper rooted opinions? Every answer she ran through her mind seemed not enough, somehow.

"I want to know everything, honestly. I'd like to know how our mind works you know? If we're going to be around each other all the time we might as well figure each other out you know?" He said with a smile "what was your childhood like? If you're comfortable telling me, that is." He took another sip of his drunk but maintained eye contact

( as I'm writing this, I've landed in like 2060, so around 40-45 years into the future, which would make the war she's talking about WWII, but I kept it vague so it can be any war really, even a fictional one. )
"My childhood? God, that was over a century ago," Maria said, thinking back. "I think it was pretty normal. I grew up during a war, so it wasn't exactly conventional by today's standards, but once that was over it was pretty normal. Spain stayed out of it for the most part, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. We moved around a lot, but most people did. It was hard to feel safe with war on every border, you know?"

"I think I can comprehend it. Considering how long ago it was it's a little hard." He said with a laugh "the only reason I'd be able to understand is from stories from my grandfather. But even then I barely hear them" he added "another question, how were the people before me? Have they made it hard for you to trust others or are things okay with you?" He questioned hoping things weren't previously too bad for her. He'd really like to make it as enjoyable as possible because of the fact this is forced upon her

Maria sighed, finishing her coffee as an excuse to put the question off. "I guess I land somewhere in between," she replied. "The second person I was ever paired with was a friend and not an employer, and I loved her for all twenty years I was with her. But because I was so open going into my third and most recent partnership, I ended up getting hurt. She was an older woman who lost her husband in the vampire-human war and seemed to have some personal vendetta against me. She wasn't exactly a kind woman, and I can't say I grieved when she died." She sighed again. "I wouldn't say I have a hard time trusting or opening up to people, but I'm cautious." And vengeful, she added to herself, which brought her some comfort. She was here to make things right for her people, after all. Everything she told her new companion got her closer to him and his information.
