(Lets have them have potions together and they can paired up or something )
Lyra sat through Astronomy with her head in her hand. She was so bored, her mind drifted to the boy she had meet earlier. Newt. A fitting name, unique like him. She was called on a few times in class and each time she answered correctly. After all she had just done a whole years worth of notes on the book a few days ago. Like her brother Lyra was very smart, but she hadn't placed in Ravenclaw like Leonard had. She was put in Gryffindor, and of course she fit right in. But she didn't think anyone in her house studied as much as she did.
"Hey. Ly" A whisper came from behind her and she turned to see who it was before turning back around. "What do you want Mina." She whispered back, covering her mouth with her hand so the professor would not see her talking. "Whats up with that kid earlier?" "You mean Newt?" Lyra asked, speaking a little louder than she had meant and turning around "Miss King, I am only going to ask you once this time keep your voice down and do not speak when I am speaking." The professor glared at her from the white board the chalk was writing on. Once the professor went back to teaching Lyra turned around again. "He is different but he is nice." She said Mina frowed, "He is weird. Why would you even talk to him. You should have left the prank alone everyone thought it was funny." "No that isn't fair, it wasn't meant for him. Now shut up your going to get me in trouble." Lyra hissed whipping around just before the professor moved to check on them.
Class passed slowly, like a snail racing turtle. When it was over Lyra was the first one out the door. Not only because she had a class right after this, but because she didn't want to be bothered by anyone. Of course she heard Mina questioning her but Lyra pretended to not hear her and she quickly made her way to her class. Every now and then she heard someone snicker or comment on what had happened in the Great Hall, it ranged from 'good job' to 'maybe she is just as weird'. But she paid it no mind. Lyra had to get to potions class.

Newt made his way slowly down to the potions room, his shoulders curled in and his back hunched, which made him give the impression that he was small, despite his actual height. Occasionally he rubbed his hand over the back of his neck, where a handful of papercuts still stung. Despite the professor's efforts, the paper assault on him had continued throughout the class, accomplishing nothing except losing Hufflepuff a couple dozen points. Not that many of his classmates cared.
He was almost to class when two such classmates walked up, pinning him between them. Whoever had decided that the steroetypical Hufflepuff was extremely nice had clearly never met Nic and Cass. "How'd you enjoy that little snog of yours earlier?" Cass sneered, grinning. "Must've been your first, wasn't it? And how fitting." Nic added with a similarly cruel smile. "Did you think it was going to turn into a prince?" "No, he probably was hoping it would turn him into a toad." "I mean, he's already halfway there, being a little Newt." Newt kept his head down, his eyes firmly focused on the ground in front of his feet. "Newts and toads are completely different. For one thing, newts-" "Go on and on about a lot of useless things that no one else gives two knuts about?" "Maybe it's too bad he wasn't turned into a toad, at least they don't talk-" "And talk-" "When no one wants to listen." They were wrong. Lyra had wanted to listen. At least, he'd thought she had.
Newt shoved his way out from between them, half running the rest of the way to class. Not that it was very far at that point. His face burned, bright splotches of red scattered over his cheeks and ears. He sat down at an empty table, looking past the board as he tried to recompose himself.

Newt did a little hop in his seat in surprise, straightening up quickly. He blinked a few times at Lyra, slowly relaxing. His face was still a patchwork of blotchy red skin and freckles, but it wasn't as set as when Nic and Cass had been talking to him. "They're people," he replied quietly, as though that explained everything. His gaze wandered down to her pile of notes. Considering how early into the year it was, no one by any means should already have that much written down. Strange, that she was a Gryffindor. He would have pinned her for a Ravenclaw based on the stack. Or even a Hufflepuff, given how much time and work it must have taken.
"Please don't sit with me. You'll just get dragged into my problems and I can deal with them just fine on my own and you really don't deserve it but people already seem to be taking digs at you cos of you talking to me outside the Great Hall and I..." He paused to catch his breath, rubbing his arm sheepishly. He looked over at the two Gryffindors glaring at him, who had earlier been calling to Lyra. "I'm fine, okay? Go sit with your friends."

The red haired girl raised an eyebrow at him as he told her he would be fine and to go sit with her friends. "I'm not sitting with you because I feel bad for you or anything I hope you know." Lyra said firmly, her blue gaze locked on the boy next to her. After a moment she turned a way and thumbed through her notes a bit. "I could care less what others think, I will talk to who I want if I so choose. I mean if they want to talk with me as well that is." She shrugged her shoulders a bit and smiled at him. "It was really nice that you cared more about Froggy than about yourself. Its refreshing to see someone care about something other than themselves."
Glancing over at her friends she saw they were glaring at Newt and herself. To them, she shot a very displeased look and the two rolled their eyes and looked away. "I think its immature that they follow what everyone else says, rumors are usually just that. Rumors." The girl nodded and flipped to the page of notes they would be using today, she had spoken to the professor earlier and was prepared. The note packet was held together by some holes with sting looped through it and tied together. " Plus, you seem like a cool person to hang out with, you know if you didn't keep cutting your sentences short because you think you are talking to much or something. I find the information you have told me rather interesting. My brother is a the Head Boy of Ravenclaw so I'm used to rambling from him. Actually from the whole family to best honest, I'm the only one that got placed in Gryffindor so far, they all think I should be in Ravenclaw like them." She gestured to her notes, "I mean they are right in some ways." The girl laughed slightly rubbing the back of her neck. "Anyway, if you don't mind, ya know since I made you kiss a toad," She paused biting her lip gently still feeling pretty bad about that; "We could talk ya know? I'd love to know more about animals, you seem pretty knowledgeable about them." She shrugged her shoulders a bit and shifted so she could skim her notes. "If you want that is."

Newt studied her while she spoke, his expression somewhat similar to that of a muggle-born first year during their first day of classes--curiosity, confusion, a bit of wonder, and some reluctance. He wrung his hands in his lap, thinking about what she had said about rumors only being rumors, wondering if he should correct her. Most of the rumors and things that people used to tease him with affected him as much as they did because they were true. He knew he was different in a way most people didn't like and found annoying, he didn't understand people half as well as he understood beasts, he had a bad tendency to miss social cues that were obvious to everyone else, and almost everything else people said. It was all true. But why did Lyra seem to be oblivious to all of that?
"I don't mind at all. I'd rather like it, the talking, I mean," Newt said, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He glanced from her notes to the board. "We should probably get started if we want to finish by the end of class." He started taking out the ingredients that were listed, as well as a few things that weren't "We can still talk while we work, and everything, but I don't want all your studying to go to waste."

(No problem at all! Glad things are better now ) Newt flipped through his textbook while she gathered most of the ingredients, chewing the inside of his cheek. Messy notes were scrawled all over the margins, most of them crossed out. Some spots were so bad, one could have almost believed that he'd spilled his inkwell. Forgetfulness Potion was certainly new, most of the ingredients even were unfamiliar to him. Which meant he had no idea what he could add to make it stronger. He doubted that Lyra would appreciate him experimenting with anything the first time they worked together. That would probably make it the last time. He closed his book, realizing that she had asked him a question. He frowned slightly at her grinning face, taking a moment to remember what she had said. "Um, yeah," he said quietly. What did she think of all his notes, if she had seen them? For a moment, he considered explaining, telling her about how he would take materials from creatures he managed to study, like stray hairs or feathers, and then test them out in potions and with different combinations to see how they reacted and if they could make any of the recipes stronger or weaker. After all, most of the items he'd never seen in the textbook and it seemed like useful info to figure out. "Two drops of Lethe water, you said?" Maybe not. He'd probably waste all of the time they had talking instead of working, and besides, it was better that she not ask where he got the materials from.

Lyra peek over at his notes as she set everything down and organized it a bit. They were the exact opposite of her notes. So scattered and messy, it fit him though she couldn't really see him as the kind of person to really organize his notes. The red haired girl had gotten her note taking skills from her brother. He was a ravenclaw and that is where everyone thought Lyra belonged but she knew better than that, there was much more to her than he excellent note taking skills. Hearing him answer her question she snapped out of her thoughts and focused on him, "Yes, two drops and then we will need to heat it for twenty seconds then add the Valerian sprigs stir three times. uhhhh." She paused looking where the arrow on her notes was pointing. "Clockwise it says then we cast a memory charm and let it sit." She handed him the vile of Lethe water for him to put in so she could heat it right after. She hated when things were so specific it was boring and if it wasn't done right the whole thing could potentially not work.
