OOC Sorry it's so short, it's kinda rushed.
IC Norman had to start his day with coffee. He also had to end his day with coffee, and reach the good half way milestone with coffee....so basically there was a lot of coffee in his life. An unhealthy amount, but when you didn't get any sleep the night before, you needed coffee all throughout the day. So that was why Norman had found himself entering a small coffee shop in his city.
The line was long and he already hated that, but what could he do? Nothing. So grudgingly, he got in the line, the coffee shop was nice, had really good, quality coffee, and it was next to the park, which was always a plus. He usually got himself a coffee, a pastry, and some napkins and took his stuff out into the park to find a nice place to eat and drink in peace. Life was sort of boring, he hardly ever had to work...and his brothers all lived far away, so it was just him. It was boring, yet he still liked to find things to amuse himself with.
Once the line moved on, he finally reached the front and gave his order quickly, clearly he was a regular here and new what he was doing. Once he got his order, he took the bag and the cup of coffee before walking out and to Central Park.

no it's good! this will be my last reply because it's so late }}
Alex found an empty bench to sit on while he watched people walk by. He veiled himself for good measure, seeing as he didn't want to look creepy just staring at people as they passed. The veil didn't really hide him, but made him hard to look at, so that people didn't want to look at him or even couldn't unless they focused very hard.
He liked this veil particularly because it allowed him to be hidden without having to actually disappear, so that when he was done hiding he didn't have to magically reappear out of thin air, which sort of defeated the point of hiding. It was only useful when hiding wasn't an emergency, since people could still look at him if they tried hard enough, but it was good for the simple task of making him less noticeable, which he wanted to be right now.
The one thing he noticed after watching for a while was that no one else was using their magic. A creeping feeling sunk in, a hunch that maybe they didn't have magic here, or at least very little, but he ignored. That would just be strange: not having magic. Maybe it was simply etiquette not to use it outside, or people were too busy to use it.
Alex knew it was too soon to draw a conclusion, but for some reason, in the back of his mind, he had already decided he would not see anyone else here using magic. That didn't mean he couldn't use it himself, of course, because it would be useful in the long run, right? Maybe he could teach them a thing or two.

OOC So would they get news of the portal thing? Or would they not know anything until Alex uses his magic?
