What in God's name? The brunette thought. She knew she need to confront it. But, how? What even was it? It wasn't a dog, wasn't a - a human, either. It had eyes that glinted in the darkness and she was sure it could have passed for those monsters she was scared really were under her bed as a child. But it had wrecked her supply of food and had destroyed her first-aid kit and left a trail of blood in almost every room in the house. She was fired up, to say the least. She'd paid good money for this getaway and wasn't about to have it ruined by some weird - well, weird whatever-it-was.
"Okay," Kendall said through shaky breaths, mustering up her strength - "whoever the heck is under my bed, get out from under there, now.

(I'm thinking something should happen to create like a mutual feeling of trust between the two)
Avi, still exhausted, quickly collected the snow, knowing he wouldn't be much good for much longer. He needed it for his own shoulder, which had just now begun to bother the best more than he would have cared to admit. At one point the pain became so great, he doubled over, stifling a few curse words. No need to draw more attention to himself. Eventually, poised to the point a cave dwelling monster could be, he returned to Blair, half expecting the hunter to be gone.

Thornshade
The creature flinched at her words, trying to move back further. There was no room for retreat between him and the wall, so he was only able to press against the wall a little more. The wound in his back only hurt more and he gave a small hiss of pain, pulling up the seal pelt over his head. He didn't want to face or deal with the woman here. Whatever he'd thought of her before, he had to assume she was hostile. Of course she wouldn't be happy to find him in her house. No human he'd ever heard of allowed a nonhuman in their midst.

Blair had remained seated where he'd been when the beast left the cave. His eyes watched the entrance, ready to stand off against any unfamiliar creature that attempted to enter. He recognized Avi's silhouette as he returned and waited for him to pass before turning his gaze back to the entrance. Even if the beast would fight on his behalf if something attacked, he felt better to remain vigilant himself and watch. Years of camping alone in the woods with the knowledge of what roamed it left it as a habit.

(It is, I actually just added it, so there haven't been any takers to this point. Which role do you want?)

(I'd like the role of the subject. Or, in other words, not the stranger, if that makes sense)

Emendr followed the woman in the lab coat quietly through the hallway of the new laboratory. He didn't care much to look around at this point. If this was anything like the last lab, he wouldn't be leaving the room much. He was considerably taller than most of the scientists they passed. His modifications, as they called them, were 'severe'. He stood at almost seven foot, with damp and colorful salamander skin. He lacked any hair and his temples were lined with round, bony growths that lined to the back of his elongated skull. His front was covered by overlapping thick chitin-like scales that protected his chest and stomach. He'd been given a pair of pants with a fold in the back to allow for his long tail to move about freely, though he lacked shoes and a shirt. After several moments, they stopped outside a door. He waited and within a moment, the door was open. When he didn't move, the scientist gestured forward. He still stayed in place, anxious about entering the room. From what he could see, the room was mostly empty, divided between tile flooring and a steep incline that had been filled with water to cater to his amphibious state. Still, on the way here, he'd seen something else. He wasn't sure rooms with a half foot of water were going to keep him content like before after that... A few other scientists began watching and he realized if he didn't comply, they would become less friendly. He walked forward into the room without a word and stood quietly. Quickly, the door was closed behind him. (I know he's kinda odd. I have some reference art here.)

Me thinks he looks neat! Like an argonian, if you know what those are!)
Curled up in a corner of her little room, reading a book, Kyra looked up at the sound of footsteps echoing outside. Endlessly curious, she put her book down and pushed herself up to her feet, using her own little modification; a pair of fawn-colored wings. She crossed the room in three strides to peer out her window, her head cocked to the side with intrigue. Her eyes widened and she took a step back as a stranger passed by her room. She barely got a good look at him, except that she was pretty sure he was a giant lizard. She went back to the window and stood on her toes, trying to get a better view, but the newcomer had already disappeared from the hallway. Disappointed, she slumped back onto her bed, staring at the ceiling and trying to make sense of what she'd seen. She wasn't nearly as special as that. Average height and build, with curly honey brown hair and hazel eyes, the only thing that stuck out about her were the wings. And the tattoos, which were pretty abundant all over her body. The designs were all different; some were weapons, others were odd creatures she'd never seen before. But they weren't just tattoos; this she knew for a fact.

(Yeah He was part of a class project. There's a few more references and a 3D model in the link in my signature I just didn't want to post them all.) Emendr waited, listening as the sounds of footprints died away. The scientists must have left. He looked back at the pool of water with a slight frown. It wouldn't be the same, but it was still a necessary thing. He'd get sick if he was denied access to water, something he and the scientists of the other lab had found out early on. He'd been on the truck in the crate all the night before, and it wouldn't be more than a few hours before he started feeling dehydrated again. He walked over to the water and sat down, finding that even like this it barely reached his torso. It was no better than the kiddie pool he'd had when he was small. In his last cell, he'd basically been thrown into a tank with a few concrete cubes to rest on. Still, what he wouldn't give to be able to actually swim. He swung his rudder-like tail down, slapping the surface of the water with a loud pop and sending water in all directions. Sure, it wasn't 'acting his age' to pout like this, but he didn't care. He doubted the scientists would either. He slapped the surface of the water again, the sound echoing loudly through the room. He hoped it reached the hall, or whatever system they were using to monitor him. He hoped it bugged the crap out of them, and he brought his tail down a third time.

I'll have to check that out when I get back on my computer!)
A soft chittering sound drew Kyra away from her thoughts and a smile formed on her lips. She rolled over to one side and peered down as a small creature crawled out from beneath the cot. Somewhat of a mix between a lion cub and a fennec fox, the little animal gazed up at her. Kyra reached down and scooped him up, glancing around quickly before looking back down at him. "Pippin!" she scolded him gently. "You're not supposed to be out! What if they see you?" Pippin gave an indignant huff before curling up in her lap and letting out a purr. Kyra shook her head and held out her left arm. "Come on, back in there." The little chimera cub looked at her, almost appearing creastfallen. Kyra patted his head and leaned close to him. "We can play later." The cub hesitated a moment longer, before bursting into a fine golden-yellow dust, which was almost immediately absorbed by her arm. A moment later, the cub appeared on her arm, in the form of a tattoo. Kyra winced slightly, before looking up. She could almost faintly hear the sound of water slapping, and furrowed her brows, going back to her window to peer out into the hallway.

(X3 Their rooms should be next to each other, sharing a wall, if that helps with the layout of their space)
Emendr flopped backwards so he was laying face-up in the water. After a moment or two, he rolled himself over a few times and sat up again. His tail gave one last spiteful slap to the meager pool and he got up, skin and pants thoroughly soaked. He walked a circle around his room inspecting it. It was mostly empty still, though if the bottoms if his feet weren't wrinkled for suction, he'd have been left to slide around on the tile. That might have been bad. At least if someone came in to try to bother him, they'd be on their backs in seconds. He looked over at the walls a moment, considering. They didn't appear to be a surface he could stick to. Too bad. He could have climbed far out of their reach if it had been an option. He let out a loud "Fuhhh" as he heaved a breath and he started pacing around again. There wasn't much to hold his attention in here.

(Ah, gotcha gotcha gotcha)
Kyra's head snapped around to the wall on her right. She half-walked, half-fluttered to the wall, leaning her ear up against it. Slowly, she raised her hand and knocked lightly on it. She wasn't sure if her knock would be heard, but it was worth a try. She was pretty much bored out of her mind and the scientists wouldn't let her release the little chimera cub tattooed on her body. Separating pieces of her soul and manifesting them into physical objects, the scientists had created a living army of potential lethal weapons, which sat on the surface of her skin in the form of tattoos. However, Kyra wasn't entirely sure on how to release most of them. Pippin seemed to have a mind of his own, but he was the only one who had manifested. Kyra gave another knock, hoping to get some kind of reaction from her new neighbor.

Emendr heard the first tap on the wall, and when he heard a second one, his head snapped in its direction and he stopped pacing. He didn't have a window, but if he remembered correctly, there was another room on the other side of that wall. There was a chance that the scientists were behind it. Still, there wasn't exactly much to do at this point. Might as well play along. He took a few steps over to the wall and pressed the side of his head to it a moment. He could hear very clearly that whatever air system was circulating the room was working in a confined space. That didn't tell him anything new. He looked over the wall a moment as he decided where to strike. He curled a fist and rapped his knuckles against it twice in response.

Kyra jumped backwards in surprise when she got her response. She flapped her wings in excitement and knocked on the wall again. Even though she was technically 18, after spending her entire life essentially alone, this small bit of socialcontact was enough to make her behave in a rather childlike manner. "Who's there?" she called softly, leaning her head up against the wall.

He heard a quick movement, and another knock. Then a very muffled voice. He could barely make out what it said. "Who's there?" He questioned back, in a somewhat parrot-like fashion. He didn't care to let it be known that his intelligence could match a normal human's. He found that if he just acted simple-minded and kept to as few words as possible, the scientists assumed him to be lacking in fascination. They tended to bother him less. He couldn't assume that this wasn't something they had set up.

Indignant and stubborn as usual, Kyra crossed her arms and glared at the wall. "I asked you first," she snapped, tilting her head. "I know, how rude, right?" she mumbled to herself. "Well, I don't know, that that's why I asked. Stupid." She shook her head and turned her focus back to the wall. "Are you the giant lizard?" she asked.

Well... they didn't talk like a scientist. He turned his head a few times, listening for any footsteps or any sign that someone was about to come in the door. After a moment, he answered. "No. I'm not a lizard."

Kyra sat back and looked around for a moment, then held out her arm. "Okay, Pippin, come on out," she whispered. A moment later, the same cloud of fine, golden dust materialized out of her arm and the little cub looked up at her excitedly. Kyra nodded toward the wall and Pippin went over to it, listening with his big ears. With his slightly advanced hearing, Kyra was able to better hear the voice. "Well, then, what are you?" she asked. Pippin gave an excitable chirp and pawed at the wall, curious about what was on the other side.

Emendr frowned slightly at that. He didn't have a real answer. They kept saying he wasn't human enough. That's why he was in the tank. Or room, now. He didn't have any reference to call himself anything else. He opened his mouth, but couldn't find words. He wasn't too happy that the stranger on the other side of the wall had already stumped him. He swatted the ground between his feet with his tail, unable to think of a verbal answer.

Hearing the thump, Kyra backed off a bit. Pippin began scratching at the wall with his front paws, mewling. "Well?" Kyra called. "If you can't answer what you are, then at least tell me who you are. If we're gonna be neighbors, we might as well know each other's names!"

Emendr paced briefly along the wall a moment, still frowning. Finally, he decided that if he planned to engage, he needed something first. It was still hard to rule out that this wasn't a test in its own. "Yours first." He insisted shortly, stopping his pacing with his feet submerged in the shallow end of the already pathetic pool.

Kyra hesitated and glanced down at Pippin. She wasn't necessarily sure that she trusted whoever was on the other side of the wall, and him dodging her questions was frustrating enough on its own. "Kyra," she murmured after a moment, smoothing the feathers on one wing with her hand. "Now, your turn."
