I Rant About Thunder and Shadow I finished reading Thunder and Shadow this weekend - I got the book for Christmas - and there were some good things and some bad things I couldn't help but noticing.
*SPOILERS START NOW*
The first thing I'm going to mention is how fast the rogues got to the Clans. The rogues would have had to find the Lake, find the cats living there, and prepare enough to fight WindClan. The attack took place, like, 2 weeks after Alderpaw and co. got back. I doubt they could have directly followed Alderpaw - the group would definitely have noticed - but even if they had followed them a week later or something, the Lake territories are a heck of a distance from the Gorge ...
Which brings me to my second point, which is the relative distance to the Gorge from the Lake territories. Heck, it took Firestar and Sandstorm half a Super Edition to get to the Gorge, and that was from the Forest! In The Apprentice's Quest, it took Alderpaw, like, 2 days to get to the Gorge FROM THE LAKE, and that was with an elder! The fact that it took Hawkwing (Hawkwing's Journey) half the Super Edition as well, and they didn't even get there! adds to my point. I think it was poorly communicated and the Erins could have done a better job.
My third point is with ShadowClan vs. Darktail and Rain. Darktail came into ShadowClan and literally did exactly - and I mean exactly - the same thing Sol did in Power of Three's Eclipse and Long Shadows. He came into the Clan, offered them food, hates the Clans, and tried to take over ShadowClan. Thank goodness Rowanstar is actually a good leader, but what with the sickness at the same time, he was very close to losing.
My fourth and final point is the apprentices in ShadowClan. Like, what the heck? Needlepaw? Sheetpaw? The other ones I forget about? Oh yeah - Beepaw and Lionpaw. Anyway, one of them doesn`t believe in StarClan, Needlepaw sneaks off to explore other Clans`territories... But you can`t do anything about it if they are completely ignorant to anything the senior warriors say.
Anyway, that`s pretty much it for this rant. This is my first rant and I hope you guys like it! Feel free to post anything you feel that I missed, and I`m happy to have debates with people who think otherwise.

Right? I get that it's their character, but seriously what is wrong with them

First of all, distance thing was horrible. Second of all, ShadowClan apprentices are apparently one for all.

Yeah, its a small snippet of my project, The Legend of LilyClan. I would add detail to the sig, but there was a word limit so... Also, completely agree with your points. However, I don't have a lot of beef with AVoS, as it's trying to bring back SkyClan and that's one thing I've wanted for so long.

I actually think about the distance thing a lot. Sort of spoilers for Hawkwing's Journey, I guess: But if you think about it, Hawkwing and his group got to traveling towards the Clans for a loooong time.
While Darktail and his rogues were chilling at the gorge, Hawkwing and friends were getting closer to the Clans.
So how in the world did Darktail get there first??? How did Alderpaw and the others not pass by SkyClan's group at some point? Wouldn't they see some sign of a group of cats passing through?
That is what bothered me.

That is what bothered me. That is weird. Although it's possible that Hawkwing's group got a bit lost and went a very long way. They camp by a lake at one point which no one else ever seems to come across so maybe they got lost in trying to find the actual lake.

True, but how would Darktail know a faster way to get there? Even if he did plan for SkyClan to leave and try to find the Lake, would he have let them leave if he knew a faster way there?
Adding on to Ravenflight's post, SkyClan went a different way than the Great Journey - they didn't pass through Purdy's Twolegplace or the mountains.

There's nothing wrong with VoS, I'm just a naturally critical person and it doesn't have much of a plotline. Although it's certainly showing potential compared to OotS and PoT. And I like how it's tying in a lot of novellas and SEs.

If that's the case, I wonder why Darktail's group seemed to have very little trouble finding the Clans.
