I guess whatever happened happened during one of my inactive periods, but seriously, what happened that made the oots forum such a big thing?

I have no idea. I think it was just a group of friends having fun and joking around or something.

Ooh, I can answer this!
I was active on the OOTS forum for about a year... like... from late 2010 to late 2011. I think mainly it was such a "big thing" in the first place because the fact that it was the most recent series (and the series the Erins were still currently writing) made it so that that subforum just happened to be the most populated out of all the series forums. So, that's how it started. There was a lot of active discussion about the books on there, predictions, arguments, fan theories, shipping, countdowns until the next book came out, you get the picture.
What OOTS is also known for is pretty much just what Twisterheart said. A lot of people on OOTS during the time I was there just became really close friends, and that forum was their go-to hangout. OOTS during this time was also known for being EXTREMELY off-topic and always getting their threads/posts deleted because of this. And there was also a lot of drama on the forum, but what else would you expect from 2011-era WCF.
So that's pretty much it.

(^: The big deal was I was there. Once I stopped going on OOTS everyone else stopped going because it just wasn't the same without me.

My friend made an ask jayfeather account which attracted people like moths to a fire. Then the shipping wars happened. idk man, I don't think Swifty's Jayfeather account really had that big of an impact.

OOTS was just where a bunch of friends hung out. I remember this, there were the oots awesomez (i hate even mentioning this) and we were just a huge group of friends. At that point we were pretty young, 13-15. as such, we were immature and gross, and people got upset at the oots awesomez cause it was like this exclusive clique. People kept asking 'hey can i join this group?' and they'd get turned away cause ... it was just a friend group. you cant just join a friend group. this made things tense.
anyway there was a lot of drama. It was a long time ago so it's hard to remember but we kept fighting with people in OTD. and Lunawing. and this other person (we're friends now tho lol). And OTD would hate us because we would take a topic that said "whats your favorite warrior cat?" and turn it into this off topic mess where we'd just chat, so the mods would move the topic into OTD and OTD would be flooded with topics that looked like they belonged in OOTS, lol. so they hated us.
we were well known because of all the drama we got into. we also started the OOTS weddings (i dont remember exactly which person started it tho) and that became super popular, so. that was the 'big deal' although now no one even remembers us lololol

What's the deal with these "weddings"? I've heard of them before. You should go into the "History" thread in the Memories subforum and post about your experiences, explain the jokes and events and stuff! We need to preserve this kind of history so we don't collectively forget. And thank you for your thorough explanation thus far!

We need to preserve this kind of history so we don't collectively forget. And thank you for your thorough explanation thus far! I don't know a lot about how the weddings started, because I wasn't at the first one, but basically, you could ~claim~ your favorite cat - or not-cat, eventually - and get "married" to them in a giant OOTS RP. Obviously, all the main characters got claimed pretty quickly, especially the guys, and so people had to hurry to find scraps, and it was a "big" deal to have, like, a canon character with a speaking part. And eventually, it was just cool to have a character who existed so you could say you were there, even if you had to settle for "RiverClan cat from the Gathering that one time." A lot of people were angry that we didn't let more than one person marry each character, and that started some drama. There were knockoffs and stuff in the Cats forums about them, and we were always really bitter because we were like twelve and I guess we thought we had the monopoly on cat weddings? It kind of got better what we branched out of Warriors and people started marrying anime characters and stuff, but that was mostly because we were all over Warriors by then. (Over Warriors, which is why I'm posting in this fan-run WCF like a day after that place was supposed to be out of my life for good. Yeah.) Anyway, drama aside, the weddings were really just these RP events we scheduled on random days, and they were just ways for us to hang out and fangirl or whatever. (Also, um... let's not talk about the "bushes.") On the contrary: Let's talk about the "bushes" in grimy, dirty detail.

When I joined I was mostly talking in the OOTS forum. I never really became close friends with anyone , I just remember starting drama sometimes and having a lot of arguements. But not all of it was bad...it was fun when people got along haha. I remember there was 3 of us who all had birthdays in Valentines Day, and we called ourselves triplets. I forgot all their names now, but those were some good times!

OOTS was legendary. Does a record of any of our crazy family trees exist anywhere? I don't even remember anything about it. Just that there was one.

To be honest, I have no interest in revealing the name I went by all those years ago, but I was a somewhat later member of the clique. A lot of people might not even remember me.
I mostly have fond memories of those days. I actually joined the gang shortly after some very difficult experiences in life, not to mention that I really had no friends at the time, so it was a healing experience for me and I genuinely learned a lot about forming friendships and communicating with other people thanks to my time in OotS. A lot of forum members outside the group probably hated us for posting off-topic and being generally immature, but hey, we were young. We were dumb, sure, but we were also having fun. In fact, I don't really have fun like that anymore...
I either fell out of contact with or, quite frankly, ended things on bad terms with the majority of people I met through OotS. It's been awhile since any of the falling outs, so I don't really care much now and can remember the good times and smile. Plus, I'm actually still friends with at least one former OotSian!

The reason why the old OOTS was a huge deal was because I was part of it Simple. I always posted off topic threads just to annoy the mods. Some actually survived up to 100-200 pages of random chit chat
