● Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from the other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle. ● Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory. ● Elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. ● Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life. ● A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice. ● Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name. ● A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice. ● The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires. ● After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh. ● A gathering of all five Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time. ● Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats. ● No warrior may neglect a kit in pain or in danger, even if that kit is from a different Clan. ● The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code. ● An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense. ● A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet. ● Medicine cats may cross borders and territories, especially when helping another Clan. ● Medicine cats cannot have a mate nor kits. ● To protect themselves and patients, medicine cats must learn battle moves. ● Medicine cats must do everything they can to help a cat or kit in need. ● A medicine cat may only retire when their apprentice is ready to take their place. General Battle Techniques Feel free to use this as a reference when role-playing battles and battle training. ● Back Kick - Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent's distance from you carefully, then lash out with your back legs, taking all weight on your front paws. ● Belly Rake - A fight-stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws against the soft flesh of the opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, the belly rake quickly puts you back into control. ● Front Paw Blow - Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws sheathed. ● Front Paw Strike - Frontal attack. Slice downward with your front paw at the face or body of your opponent. ● Killing Bite - A death blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes considered dishonorable. Used only as a last resort. ● Leap-and-hold - Ideal for a small cat facing a larger opponent. Spring onto opponent's back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyond the range of the opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior in this way. Watch for the drop-and-roll counter move, and try to jump free before you get squashed. ● Partner Fighting - Warriors who have trained and fought together will often fall instinctively into a defensive position, each protecting each other's back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers. ● Play Dead - Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes their grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in attacking position. ● Scruff Shake - Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponents neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, who are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them. ● Tail Yank - Grab your opponent's tail and yank it with such force your opponent is thrown off balance. ● Teeth Grip - Target your opponent's extremities- the legs, tail, scruff or ears- and sink in your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the leap-and-hold except your claws remain free to fight. ● Upright Lock - Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring weight down on opponent. If opponent does the same, wrestle and flip him under you. This makes you vulnerable to the belly rake, so it takes great strength and speed. ● Half-Turn Belly Rake - Turn onto your side, slip under the opponent's belly, rake it with your claws, then swiftly turn back onto all fours out from under your opponent. ● Badger Defense - Leap over opponent, turn on your back legs and bite opponent's leg. Used only when fighting badgers. ● Duck and Twist - Simple defensive move. The cat ducks then twists around, rolling over onto their back, and then springs to their paws. ● Jump and Pin - Complicated move. Leap backwards, and bounce off the wall. With precise accuracy, land on the cat. ● Double-Front-Paw Slap-Down - Splash water into the enemy's face with your front paws, temporarily blinding them. ● Underwater Leg Sweep - Crouch under water, holding your breath. Then, sweep the legs from under your enemy as their head is raised above water-level; they struggle for breath, as other Clan cats naturally panic underwater. ● Push-Down and Release - Wrestle your enemy under water. Keep their head below water-level until they surrender, as other Clan cats don't know to hold their breath underwater. ● Underwater Clinch - Use your enemy's weight to hold them underwater. With a firm grip, raise them to the air so they can breathe, then send them under again. Do this repeatedly until the enemy gives up. ● Tail Splash - Similar to the Double Front-Paw Slap-Down, splash the water into your opponent's eyes with your tail, temporarily blinding them. ● Underwater Push-Off - Holding your breath, crouch below the water's surface. Aim an accurate pounce to the warrior on the water's edge, knocking them off-balance; the element of surprise should win you this battle. ● Rushpaw Splash - Flick a splash of water at a distance to create a decoy for the enemy, leaving room for a surprise attack. While ShadowClan does not have any unique battle moves known, they have what is called a night ambush. Below are the steps to use this tactic correctly. ● Hide in the shadows of the night with your patrol and your enemy spotted. ● Make sure your scent isn't drifting toward the attackers. ● Wait for the leader of the patrol to give the attack signal. ● Strike your enemy fast and hard; the enemy will be caught off-guard with a battle at night. ● Cut off all your enemy's escape routes, encircling them with your patrol. ● If they try to attack, battle again. If they do not, let them through with a warning. ● Sky-Crusher - Balance on a thin branch; make no sound. Land squarely on the enemy, claws unsheathed. ● Flick-Over - Balance on a thin branch; make no sound. Land with all four paws outstretched on your enemy. Knock the opponent's feet from under him. Flip the enemy over to their belly; pin them to the ground until they surrender. ● The Kick - Balance on a thin branch; make no sound. Kick the enemy as you near the ground. Use the momentum of the fall to spring backward before the enemy has time to attack. ● The Slice - Balance on a thin branch; make no sound. Drop with claws unsheathed for maximum injury. ● The Branch Swing - Hold on to a branch with front claws as your back paws rake your enemy's face. ● The Reverse Branch Swing - Hold on to a branch with back claws as your front paws rake your enemy's face. ● The Trunk Spring - Balance on a thin branch; make no sound. Slide down the trunk of your tree. Spring off the trunk with your back legs at head height to clear an enemy. This is best when the tree is surrounded. ● The Reverse Climb - Pace backward as the enemy advances. Climb backward up the trunk to escape enemy; often followed by the Trunk Spring. Like ShadowClan, ThunderClan has special battle tactics instead of battle "moves." These two tactics are called lightning strike and forest attack. First is forest attack. ● Move quietly and communicate with signals. Cracking twigs, startled birds, and rustling bracken will tell the enemy exactly where you are. ● Keep downwind of the trespassers so that your scent doesn't give you away. ● Look for freshly broken twigs, overturned leaves on the forest floor, remains of prey, or a clump of fur caught on a bramble. Any animal that moves through the forest leaves behind signs that its passed by-and signs like this could lead you straight to the invaders. ● Keep your mouth open to search for unfamiliar scents. Be careful: if there is scent when there is no breeze to carry it through the forest, it could mean that your enemy is very close by. ● Light-colored pelts are easily seen against brown and green foliage, so stay in the thickest cover. Keep low- the enemy will be looking for movement at normal head height, not close to the ground. ● Never miss an opportunity to perfect your tracking ability. In the nursery, kits sneak up on their mothers and pounce with their moss-soft paws. Apprentices leap out on one another from behind bushes and tree stumps. These are more than just games. One day, these skills could save your life and defend your Clan. This is the lightning strike. ● Crouch behind the enemy with your patrol unseen. ● Wait for the leader of the patrol to give the signal to attack. ● Spring squarely on top of the enemy, aiming for the ears, as they will bleed easily; caught by surprise, they should be easy targets. ● As fast as you attack, retreat back into the undergrowth. ● As the enemy lets its guard down, attack from an opposite angle; do this over and over until the enemy, thinking they are outnumbered, retreats. ● Approach from Above Your Enemy - Gain high-ground. Wait for the leader of the patrol to give the to attack. Charge down your high ground; your enemy will be weakened by having to fight uphill. ● Use the Light from the Sun - Attack your enemy with the sun behind you, which should dazzle the enemy and block their view. ● Know Where the Wind is Coming From - If there is a strong wind, it should blow from behind you; that should hold them back and blur their vision with dust. However, if stalking, make sure the wind is blowing toward you, as it could give away your scent if blowing toward your enemy. ● Conceal the Size of Your Force - Have your attackers in sight from a distance. There are two options: either you can group your warriors together tightly, making you seem like a small attacking force. Your enemy may become overconfident, which is likely to lead to them making poor strategic decisions. Or, if your warriors spread out single-file, it will seem impossible to pass to advancing enemy warriors and may intimidate them. Attack the enemy. ● Attack Both Ends of the Enemy Line First - Attack both ends of your enemy's line, leaving the middle cats to fend on two fronts; this will leave them outflanked, vulnerable, and in disarray. Attack the rest of the enemies until they run. ● Keep Fresh Warriors in Reserve - Always keep strong, fit warriors to replace injured ones. ● Feigned Retreat and Ambush - A group of strong cats screech and attack the enemy line. The group of fit cats retreat; repeat this until the enemy line breaks. Other warriors, usually tunnelers, jump out of rabbit holes and dips in the ground on the other side of the attackers. Attack from both fronts until the enemy surrenders.

This chart is not optional. It needs to be followed for the most part. The only thing that may vary is when a cat will get their warrior or medicine cat name due to our rules. ● Kits - 0-6 Moons ● Apprentices - 6-9 Moons ● Senior Apprentices - 9-13 Moons ● Warriors - 13-56 Moons ● Senior Warriors - 56-96 Moons ● Elders - 96 Moons ● Medicine Cat Apprentice - 6-18 Moons ● Medicine Cat - 18-96 Moons ● Queens - 18-56 Moons (The older they are, the more likely their kits will be born stillborn, with defects, or the queen's life being in danger.) ● Deputy - 36-96 Moons (May go longer; this is an estimate, as a cat must mentor a cat) ● Leaders - 36-96 Moons
These are to determine different outcomes. Rainleaf wrote and figured them out herself, so please do not steal. ➤ Illness Below are the chances for a character to get sick from an outbreak or a seasonal outbreak. For an abnormal outbreak, all cats will be considered and a coin will be flipped for each individual to determine if they catch it or not. For a seasonal outbreak, only half of the Clan will go through this process. From that point, a dice is rolled to determine the severity of illness for each individual. There are six stages. Kit and elders will have two dice rolled as they have double the chance to catch it. The dice and coin will be flipped twice for them. Once the decision is made, it will be role-played out. Admins will have their secondary leader throw the dice or flip the coin to avoid any cheating. ➥ The first stage is a cough and slight symptoms. They can be easily cured before the next Gathering. ➥ The second stage is mild symptoms where they may take longer than two weeks real time to recover. They also become slightly contagious and are restricted from hunting patrols to prevent the illness spreading via prey. ➥ The third stage with full blown whitecough symptoms. Cats are restricted to camp, but may help with small tasks like rebuilding the camp walls. ➥ The fourth stage where the cat begins to show signs of greencough. They are restricted from assisting with tasks near the nursery and elders den. ➥ The fifth stage where greencough is confirmed. They are confined to the medicine cat's den and must rest. Symptoms are mild to severe. ➥ The sixth and final stage where the cat dies from greencough. ➤ Wounds Battles can be bloody and take many lives, however they can also be quick, simple, and result to little or no injuries. While any cat can die at any time during a battle, we have decided to make it less likely for death for small battles. Therefore, battles over borders or small strips of territory like Sunningrocks will only go to stage four unless there is a consistent conflict between the two Clans like war. However, battles near the gorge or thunderpath will have a special coin flip to determine if they will meet the terms of a small battle or large battle due to the danger of the location. To prevent a Clan losing more warriors than necessary, the death toll for a Clan will be five in big battles in three in small battles. A small battle patrol must consist of seven cats while a big patrol must consist of eleven. ➥ The first stage where the cat only suffers minor scratches. If anything, fur will be ripped out. Ears may be torn as well. ➥ The second stage where the cat only suffers a few minor gashes and blood is visible. They do require some medical treatment. ➥ The third stage where the cat suffers from larger and worse gashes. They are not at risk of death, but infection can easily set in if not treated quickly. ➥ The fourth stage where the cat suffers complete bodily injuries and needs assistance for traveling back to camp. They may risk death by blood loss if they prolong treatment. ➥ The fifth stage in which the cat may suffer from a major injury like blinding, broken bones, and other major injuries in addition to major gashes in which blood loss is an issue. They must be immediately sent back to camp or face death. ➥ The sixth stage in which the wounds are far too much and the cat dies. They do not have to suffer a broken bone or a wound similar, but they have either not made it in time for treatment, lost too much blood, or suffered a severe blow on the scene of the battle. ➤ Litter Size In the case of a real matter, she-cats normally can birth up to nine kittens. However, we will keep to the average, so the maximum amount of kits a queen can have is six. Genders and descriptions will be up to owners of the parents, but the size will be determined here. A mutation, defect, and mortality generator will also be used on the litter. However, this will be specified in those sections. There is truly no need in thoroughly explaining as it is pretty self-explanatory. The admin will flip a coin and if the coin lands on heads, the litter will be bigger than three. If the coin lands on tails, the litter will be smaller. The admin will then throw a dice to determine how many. Keep in mind that if the coin hit tails, the number can not be higher than three and if the coin landed on heads, the litter can not be bigger than six. The owners of the parents reserve the right to have one kit if they wish, but if they want more than one, they will need to go through this process. The maximum litters a she-cat can have is three. ➤ Birth Mutations While it may not seem as realistic, this section is for mutations that are nonlethal and are only for cosmetics. They will not have blind eyes or a twisted paw. This section is for tings like heterochromia, tufted ears, and so on. Members may join with any mutations they'd like if the admin allows it, as some mutations are more common than others. Each kit in a litter will have a coin tossed to determine if they receive a mutation or not. Heads means they will while tails means they will not. Then the kit will have a number dice rolled to determine the rarity of the mutation. To keep this simple, we will have six main mutations. You may join with other mutations, but there are far too many and the process of dealing with litter size, mutations, and birth defects may take a while already. The parents may turn down a mutation if they want and do not need to have one. ➥ If the kit rolls a one, they will receive tufted ears. ➥ If the kit rolls a two, they will receive folded ears. ➥ If the kit rolls a three, they will have heterochromia, meaning two different eye colors. ➥ If the kit rolls a four, they will be a polydactyl. ➥ If the kit rolls a five, they will have a bobbed tail. ➥ If the kit rolls a six, they will not have a tail at all. ➤ Birth Defects and Death While this has been researched, the many defects a kitten can face are quite serious and would be hard for someone to role-pay. The idea of the defects is to bring a sense of realism as not every cat would be 100% healthy. Given that, the majority of these defects will be nonlethal while the others are lethal. How this will happen is that a coin will be tossed for every kit in the litter. If it is heads, they will not receive a defect. If it is tails they will. ➥ If the kit rolls a one, they will be deaf. The chances will double if the kit is white with blue eyes. ➥ If the kit rolls a two, they will be blind. ➥ If the kit rolls a three, they will have a twisted paw. (Example: Deadfoot) ➥ If the kit rolls a four, they will be born weak and frail. They will die in kithood. ➥ If the kit rolls a five, they will be stillborn. Please check the list for taken or reserved prefixes. Also, be wise with your selection of a prefix, as if it sounds like something the cats may have not or will not encounter, it will not be allowed. Obviously, the names of the Clans are forbidden. There are two forms. One is for living cats, the other is for deceased cats. If you'd like to have some kind of relation with an existing cat, it's best to ask the owner of the character. As for cats in StarClan and the Place of No Stars, please keep them to a minimum and only make them if you think you may use them for prophecies and dreams. ➤ Name | Age | Gender | Sexuality Description of five sentences minimum ➤ Tagged Member Clan: Answer Rank: Answer Kin: Answer Romantic Interest? He has a gray pelt with tabby markings and a white belly. His muzzle and toes are also white. Dewcloud has piercing yellow eyes. His pelt is criss-crossed with scars from battles. The tom was born in ShadowClan, to Frostheart and Echoheart. Feathercloud is Dewcloud's littermate. The tom is a little bit easy to agitate, as he can snap at an apprentice for stepping on his tail or messing up a pounce. He strives for perfection and anything otherwise is just a nuisance. This doesn't make him a bad cat, however. He truly wants the best for his Clan, and will do anything to help them. ➤ Tagged Member Clan: ShadowClan Rank: Answer Kin: Answer Romantic Interest? She has feather-soft fur and a long-haired pelt. Her ears have tiny little tufts of fur. Rabbit-chaser has pale blue eyes and a scar on her cheek. She was the mother of Thrushwing, Grasspaw, and Goldenpaw. Rabbit-chaser was born into WindClan, but after a raid took place, her father brought her to ThunderClan. Her siblings were stillborn and her mother died shortly after her birth. She was mates with Hazelfern. It was rumored that she had difficulty giving birth, thus why Thrushwing was the only kit to live. Welcome to the Gathering page. This will serve for both medicine cats and annual gatherings. When the half moon medicine cat gathering is not in progress, this can be used for cats to meet at the island given that the admins know what is going on. Be sure to follow all forum rules and be sure to have permission to use this page. The territory for the Clans have changes due to the addition of SkyClan. Please take time to look through, as you may be reprimanded if it becomes obvious you have not looked through the information on the front page. The Lake territory for RiverClan does not have any name by Twolegs. However, the Twoleg names for the borders are Littlepine Road, Littlepine Sailing Center, and Whitechurch Road. The territory includes the River Alba. Landmarks here include: ➤ Greenleaf Twolegplace - During greenleaf, Twolegs come here to swim noisily. ➤ Halfbridge - A peculiar bridge that ends halfway in the water. Twoleg boats are anchored to it. ➤ Lakeshore - RiverClan owns the south to western part of the lake shore. ➤ Camp - Like the other camp, this camp is tucked away on a piece of land surrounded by two streams, making it well-defended.
The camp is full of lush trees and streams full of fish. There is a main stream that joins a smaller one, and on that triangle of land, RiverClan's camp resides. In the camp, there is a nest of brambles which is where the nursery is. It is strongly reinforced. In other thickets are the elder's and leader's den. The medicine's den is behind a thorn bush and overhangs the stream. The earth was washed away, leaving a pool in the roots and a hole in the bank. This is essential for the medicine cat who can store their supplies and get fresh water any time. There aren't as many shiny things as the old camp, but Twolegs often leave behind shiny things that the cats can use to decorate their nests. However, they have to be careful, as not all Twoleg things are safe for them. The ShadowClan forest territory is located in an area that Twolegs call the Sadler Woods. The territory also includes Twoleg places such as the Hareview Campsite, the Sanctuary Cottage, and borders called Littlepine Road and the Littlepine Sailing Center. Landmarks in this territory include: ➤ Twoleg Nest - Home to two aggressive kittypets: Susan and Jacques. If they catch Clan cats out alone, they attack immediately. ➤ Small Thunderpath - There is a thunderpath that leads to the greenleaf twolegplace in RiverClan's territory. It acts as a border between RiverClan and ShadowClan. ➤ Lakeshore - ShadowClan owns the north-western part of the lake shore. ➤ Camp - Closer to Twolegs than in the old Forest territory, but it is well hidden and difficult for attacking enemies.
The camp has a small pool nearby, so the cats don't have to go all the way to the bottom of the lake to fetch water for elders or for the medicine cats. The actual camp is in a tangle of brambles, with low-hanging branches all around and above it. These brambles and branches help protect against badgers and other big creatures. Many trees surround the camp, enabling cats to climb up them and see the antics of the Twolegs on water. From these trees, the cats can see all the Twolegs and their boats in the water. The entrance of the camp is through a thorn tunnel, and brambles. At the camp entrance is a large boulder, which cats have to slip past to enter the camp clearing. There is a clear progression of dens from one side of the clearing to the other which are all in bramble thickets. The nursery is first, then the apprentices, then warriors, then the leader, and finally the elders at the end of the circle. This structure enables the kits and elders closest to the low-hanging branches and the warriors facing the entrance, if any kind of trouble. The medicine den is in a far corner, beyond the leader's den. It is a sandy, hollowed-out floor covered in dried pine needles. There, the branches aren't so bunched together, letting the medicine cats examine the skies for omens. Above the leader's den, there is a hazel branch that hangs over. This serves as a kind of vantage point for the leader to address their Clan. The Lake territory for SkyClan is located in Sadler and Hare Hill Woods. They reside in pieces of territory formerly owned by ThunderClan and ShadowClan as the two Clans gave up part of their territory for SkyClan to live beside the lake. Landmarks include: ➤ Greenleaf Twolegplace - Another place Twolegs inhabit during greenleaf. The Twolegs put up small dens and light terrifying fires. However, they also leave behind food much like the food found at the old Carrionplace. This was formerly a ShadowClan landmark. ➤ Halfbridge - A peculiar bridge that ends halfway in the water. Twoleg boats are anchored to it. RiverClan has a similar one in their territory. Despite this, ShadowClan tries to take it back. ➤ Twoleg Path - During greenleaf, Twolegs tramp along these paths all season. ➤ Camp - SkyClan makes their camp in a large hollow near the clearing. ➤ The Clearing - A training hollow that also houses an abundance of herbs.
The camp is slightly open, allowing the cats to see if a Clan is intruding. However, ferns, bracken, and thorns provide some cover and protection. The dens are varies hollowed logs, ranging in size and species of wood. They have a rock near the leader's den which they've named Sky Rock. The warriors and apprentices den are near the entrance. The leaders den resides next to the warriors den and faces the medicine cat den. The nursery and elders den are in the back with the most cover, offering shelter from the weather and making the elders, queens, and kits comfortable. The Lake territory for ThunderClan is called the Hare Hill Woods by Twolegs. Twoleg landmarks nearby include the Hareview Campsite, Abandoned Workman's House, Quarry Road, and the Quarry. Landmarks here include: ➤ An abandoned Twoleg Nest - Herbs and prey thrive here, though it has an ominous feeling inside. ➤ Sky Oak - An ancient oak where squirrels love to call home. It also has an old rabbit burrow inside. It is where ThunderClan apprentices practice their climbing skills. ➤ Lakeshore - ThunderClan has the north-eastern portion of the lake. ➤ Old Thunderpath - Marked with blue Twoleg markers, cats often stay away from this road. ➤ Camp - The camp is well protected by the side of a cliff, and surrounded by a thorn barrier.
At the bottom of an old cliff, this camp is very well protected. The walls around the camp are smooth, indicating Twolegs cut this place moons ago. The cliffs also help keep out the wind. A thorn barrier guards the camp; any cat that wants to come in has to get past. A ledge peeks out from the cliff. That is the Highledge where the leader speaks. A cave near the top is the leader's den. The apprentice's den is also a cave in the rocks while the warrior den is under a big thornbush. The medicine cat's den is another cave, but this time hidden by bramble tendrils. Like the previous camp, the nursery is highly guarded, and under a big bramble thicket reinforced with thick roots woven together for protection. Lastly, the elder's den is in a hazel bush, and later rebuilt under the boughs of a beech tree and reinforced with honeysuckle. The Lake territory for WindClan is called Hare Hill by Twolegs. The borders of the Clan have Twoleg names, such as the Hare Hill Riding Stables and Hare Hill road. Landmarks here include: ➤ Moonpool Stream - A stream marking WindClan's Northern border, which is shared with ThunderClan. Leads up to the Moonpool. ➤ Horseplace - The fence of Horseplace marks the Southern border of WindClan. Their heavy hooves make cats stay away from them. ➤ Lakeshore - WindClan is located on the south-eastern shore of the lake. ➤ Camp - A shallow scoop in the ground open to the sky.
A giant boulder resides in the center of the camp. This is called the Tallrock, where the leader makes his speeches. A gorse bush against the rock is the nursery. In another boulder is the medicine cat's den. The leader, apprentices, warriors sleep in the center underneath the sky, although in bad weather, they retreat in burrows made by rabbits, foxes or badgers. There is an old badger set where the elders sleep.

Whitecough is the milder form, but if untreated, it can develop into the much more severe greencough. Cats usually catch it during leaf-fall and leaf-bare, and sometimes it develops into large-scale epidemics. It can be fatal for elders and kits, and it has claimed the lives of several cats. It spreads quickly and is highly contagious. Medicine cats treat it using catmint. The first ThunderClan medicine cat, Cloudspots, found out that this was the best remedy. If fevers accompany the cough, tansy or borage is used as well. ● Poisoning Information & Treatment: Poisoning is the ingestion of a substance that causes harm to the body. If only a small quantity of poison is ingested, the cat usually just receives a bellyache, but larger amounts can cause death. Medicine cats treat these bellyaches with yarrow or nettle leaves, while mild bellyaches can be treated with juniper or watermint. If a cat has been severely poisoned they may become unconscious for a length of time. To make a cat potentially vomit the poison, immediately give them yarrow. ● Rat-Borne Infections Information & Treatment: The cats sometimes fall victims to infections carried by rats. One of these infections is called Carrionplace Disease. The first ShadowClan medicine cat, Pebbleheart, realized that rats were a source of disease. As ShadowClan cats sometimes ate the rats from the Carrionplace, they were prone to catch these diseases. It is a deadly and contagious disease. To cure the disease, use ragweed, juniper berries, chickweed, and honey. However, if the case is severe, then replace chickweed with catmint or add a little portion of catmint to help. Burdock root is used to stop infection from rat bites. ● Loss of Sensory Perception Information & Treatment: A cat may lose their eyesight or hearing due to old age. Or from accidents and infections, or birth defects. These conditions usually end their career as a warrior, as they cannot hunt or fight efficiently, and must retire as elders. Kits born with defects usually die young, unless they have special skills compensating it. Kits that are white with blue eyes have a higher chance of being born deaf. ● Joint Aches Information & Treatment: A condition usually associated with elders, the joints gradually degenerating with age, causing pain and difficulty to move. Damp environments can cause the appearance of this condition, so apprentices must make sure that the moss they gather for bedding is completely dry. It is usually treated using daisy or ragwort poultices. ● Toothache Information & Treatment: A toothache is caused by a cracked tooth, cavities, or an infection in the mouth. Alder bark is used to soothe the pain. ● Fever Information & Treatment: Fever is an abnormally high temperature of the body. It is not a disease in itself, but it usually signs the presence of an infection, such as greencough or an infected wound. If needed, it can be treated with feverfew, borage, or lavender. ● Chills Information & Treatment: Chills are mostly associated with cold weather or being submerged in cold water for a long period of time. Although this condition is mild and is not a disease, it has claimed lives. Kits and elders are more at risk of dying when they get a chill. Licking a cat's fur the wrong way gets the blood flowing again. A poultice of lavender, catmint and feverfew is also a good remedy. ● Wounds Information & Treatment: Wounds are injuries when the skin and the muscles beneath are torn, cut, or punctured. They may put a cat's life in danger due to blood loss, infections, or the damage of the organs. Wounds are the most common injuries, due to the cats always fighting enemy Clans, badgers, or foxes. Minor wounds heal on their own in no time, but severe wounds must be treated by a medicine cat. This treatment includes cleaning it thoroughly with the tongue, stopping the bleeding by pressing cobwebs on it, and applying poultices to prevent infection and help it to heal. Herbs used in the poultices include goldenrod, marigold, burdock root or (in the case of rat bites) wild garlic. If the wound becomes infected, chervil or horsetail is used as well. The pain can be eased with poppy seeds or willow bark. ● Sprains Information & Treatment: Sprains are injuries to ligaments of a joint, caused by being stretched beyond their normal capacity and possibly torn. It causes severe pain and decreased ability to move the joint. The cat must rest for several days. ● Joint Dislocation Information & Treatment: Joint dislocation is the displacement of a bone from its normal joint. Medicine cats treat this condition by first feeding the patient poppy seeds to make them sleepy so they don't feel it as much, and then forcing the limb back into the joint. ● Cracked Pads Information & Treatment: The paw pads may crack while walking long distances on hard surfaces, or due to cold weather. Elders are especially prone to this condition. It is treated with a poultice of coltsfoot or yarrow. Dock leaf poultices are also used to cool cracked pads. ● Broken Bones Information & Treatment: A broken bone is usually the result of an accident, such as falling down from a high place, or being hit by a monster. Cats most often break their legs, and while medicine cats try to bind the bone with cobwebs, the injury usually results in the cat remaining crippled for the rest of their life. A more severe injury is when a cat breaks their backbone. This results in the cat being unable to feel or move parts of their body. If the break is bad enough the cat will be killed on or shortly after impact. It is best to possibly make the patient swim in shallow water in hopes of exercising the injured limb or coming up with exercises to fit the patient's need. The ceremonies have been written out and coded so the admins and leaders do not have to look up the words each time. It is recommended that leaders and admins use these, but it will not be forced. ● Apprentice Ceremony - An apprentice ceremony is performed when a kit is ready to take on apprentice training, usually at the age of six moons old. When a kit turns six moons old, they are ready to become an apprentice. Until this time, their name ends with the "-kit" suffix. When a kit becomes an apprentice, their name is changed so that the suffix of their name becomes "-paw", showing the path their paws are on. ➥ The Clan leader calls a Clan meeting to appoint a new apprentice and assign a mentor to them. The following words are used, by tradition: ➤ Leader: (Kit), you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as (new name, ending with "paw"). Your mentor will be (name of warrior or medicine cat). I hope (name of warrior or medicine cat) will pass down all he/she knows on to you. ➥ The leader calls up the warrior he/she has chosen as a mentor. ➤ Leader: (Warrior), you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from (former mentor), and you have shown yourself to be (quality) and (quality). You will be the mentor of (apprentice), and I expect you to pass on all you know to (apprentice). ➥ The mentor touches noses with the apprentice, and the Clan greets the new apprentice by calling out their name.
● Medicine Cat Apprentice Ceremony - It follows a similar procedure as a warrior apprentice's ceremony. However, the medicine cat is included and the ceremony is not complete without the trip to the Moonstone for StarClan's acceptance. In between the time of the ceremony held before the Clan and before StarClan, the apprentice does still train. ➥ The leader calls a Clan meeting, after the Clan's medicine cat announces that they wish to mentor an apprentice. The following words are used, by tradition: ➤ Medicine Cat: Cats of (Clan), as you know, I will not be around forever. So it's time I took an apprentice. I have chosen a cat who has shown (virtues). Your next medicine cat will be (apprentice). ➤ Leader: (Apprentice), do you accept the post of apprentice to (medicine cat)? ➤ Apprentice: I do. ➤ Medicine Cat: Then at the half-moon, you must travel to the Moonstone to be accepted by StarClan before the other medicine cats. ➤ Leader: The good wishes of all (Clan) will go with you. ➥ The mentor touches noses with the apprentice, and the Clan greets the new apprentice. ◎ At the next half moon, the medicine cat goes with the apprentice to the Clans' sacred place to present them to the warrior ancestors, where the apprentice confirms their wish to be a medicine cat. The following words are used, by tradition: ➤ Medicine Cat: (Apprentice), is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat? ➤ Apprentice: It is. ➤ Medicine Cat: Then come forward. ➤ Medicine Cat: Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this apprentice. (He/she) has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant (him/her) your wisdom and insight so that (he/she) may understand your ways and heal (his/her) Clan in accordance with your will. ➥ The medicine cat apprentice touches his/her nose to the Moonstone, Then the medicine cat and the apprentice lay down and have a dream from StarClan.
● Warrior Cermony - A warrior ceremony is a ceremony in which an apprentice finally gets their warrior name and becomes a full fledged warrior of their Clan. An apprenticeship usually lasts six moons or more. Once the mentor is satisfied with the apprentice's progress and skills, they recommend them to the leader of the Clan. Then, the apprentice must pass an assessment, when their abilities as a warrior are checked. In cases when the apprentice has just made an important contribution to the Clan, the leader may decide that there is no need for an assessment. Before an apprentice becomes a warrior, they must visit the Moonstone to receive a dream of their destiny. ➥ If the Clan Leader is satisfied, they call a Clan Meeting and call the apprentice. The following words are used, by tradition: ➤ Leader: I, (Leader), leader of (Clan), call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (He/she) has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend (him/her) to you as a warrior in (his/her) turn. ➤ Leader: (Apprentice), do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life? ➤ Apprentice: I do. ➤ Leader: Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. (Apprentice), from this moment you will be known as (new warrior name). StarClan honors your (virtues), and we welcome you as a full warrior of (Clan). ➥ The leader rests their muzzle on the apprentice's head, and the apprentice licks the leader's shoulder. The rest of the Clan then greets the new warrior by calling them by their new name. The warrior will sit a silent vigil guarding the camp that night, except if that is not possible.
● Dying Warrior Ceremony - When an apprentice is on the verge of death and has proven themself to be worthy of a warrior name, there is a special ceremony used so that the apprentice may take a warrior name to StarClan. ➤ Leader: I ask my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (He/She) has learned the warrior code and given up (his/her) life in the service of (his/her) Clan. Let StarClan receive (him/her) as a warrior. (He/She) will be known as (new name).
● Medicine Cat Ceremony - A medicine cat ceremony is a ceremony in which a medicine cat apprentice finally gets their well earned medicine cat name, because their mentor approves of their work. Apprenticeship for medicine cats usually lasts much longer than those for warriors. The cat must learn about all available herbs and remedies, and the treatment of diseases and injuries. ➥ Once the Clan's medicine cat is satisfied with the apprentice's knowledge, they go to the Clans' sacred place. This is the only ceremony that is not performed by the Leader. The following words are used, by tradition: ➤ Medicine Cat: I, (name), medicine cat of ___Clan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (He/she) has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help (he/she) will serve (his/her) Clan for many moons. ➤ Medicine Cat: ___paw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life? ➤ Apprentice: I do. ➤ Medicine Cat: Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. ___paw, from this moment you will be known as (new name). StarClan honors your (virtues), and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of (Clan). ➥ The medicine cat rests their muzzle on the apprentice's head, and they lick the mentor's shoulder. The other medicine cats greet them by their new name.
● Deputy Ceremony - A deputy ceremony is when a Clan leader names the Clan's new deputy. This happens when the previous deputy dies, retires, is exiled, or is promoted to leader. According to the warrior code, a new deputy must be appointed before moonhigh that day. There are exceptions, however. Occasionally, a Clan leader does not announce the new deputy before moonhigh. This can be because: they are physically or emotionally unwell, or they are unsure whether the previous deputy is alive. If the ceremony is not performed in time, it is sometimes seen as a bad omen. If the deputy dies in battle, the Clan Leader might choose to appoint the new deputy whilst still fighting, instead of waiting to return to the camp. ➤ Leader: I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors (or former deputy name) may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of (Clan) is (warrior's name).
● Leader Ceremony - A leadership ceremony is the ceremony in which, when the leader dies or retires, the deputy receives their nine lives and their leader name with the suffix -star. ➥ The new leader goes to the Moonstone with the Clan's medicine cat. After touching the stone, the new leader cannot move for a short period of time, because their old life is being ripped away so they can receive nine new ones. Upon awakening, cats of StarClan come down from Silverpelt. Nine cats, normally ones who were significant during the new leader's life, although this is not always the case,[ give them their nine lives with these words: ➤ Life-Giver: (Touches nose to the top of the new leader's head) With this life I give you (gift). Use it well (to, in, as, for, etc.) (use of gift). ➥ When all of the lives have been given, normally the previous leader says these words: ➤ Previous Leader: Previous Leader: I hail you by your new name, _____star. Your old life is no more. You have now received the nine lives of a leader, and StarClan grants you the guardianship of ____Clan. Defend it well; care for young and old; honor your ancestors and the traditions of the warrior code; live each life with pride and dignity.
● Name Changing Ceremony - A name changing ceremony is a ceremony that takes place when a Clan Leader decides to give a Clan cat a new name. This is usually done when the cat's old name does not suit them anymore, or because of an injury. ➥ The leader calls a Clan Meeting, and performs the change with the following words: ➤ Leader: "Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what he/she is. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment on he/she will be known as (new name), for (description of the reason)."
● Elder Ceremony - An aging warrior, queen, or medicine cat may retire as an elder due to own initiative, when they feel they cannot help the Clan efficiently any more. A cat may also retire if they are hindered from serving their Clan through old age, illness, or injury. They report this to the Clan leader, who calls a Clan meeting and addresses the warrior. ➤ Leader: (Warrior), is it your wish to give up the name of a warrior and go to join the elders? ➤ Warrior: It is. ➤ Leader: Your Clan honors you and all the service you have given to us. I call upon StarClan to give you many moons of rest. ➥ The Clan will call out the retired warrior's name and then they will go to the elder's den. An elder may receive a completely different name, with a different ceremony, than keeping their warrior name. Usually, an elder ceremony is held only when a cat retires due to old age. If they are forced to retire because of a severe injury, there is no ceremony.
