"Well, yeah. This city is a really dangerous place day or night. I mean, there are still good people around, but crazies don't come out just when the sun goes down," Shane told her, moving his hands behind his head now. "I want to keep helping you. I've got nothing better to do with my time, and I think we both know you could use it, having no memories of anything at all," he pointed out. The no memory card was used a lot by guardians to convince their subjects to let them tag around. It was so much easier helping them as a friend than it was by stalking them, which did sometimes have to happen. Though, Shane hadn't had to do that with any of his subjects yet. Being he was a pretty chill, outgoing, and even silly guy, things usually worked out in his favor to gain trust easily.

Having him as a bodyguard might not be too bad, Phallon thought. She couldn't remember the city well, but if she had woken up in an alley, then chances were there were a lot of worse things that could happen to her. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have him help out for a day. "Fine, we'll figure something out in the morning," she told him. "Right now, we should just go to bed." She wasn't entirely exhausted, however, she was having a bit of trouble trying to process and come to terms with everything. Rest would help. It certainly wouldn't make things worse.

"Yeah, good idea," Shane agreed then turned over on his side so his back faced the couch. "G'night, Phallon," he said to her, that smile never leaving his face. His eyes closed, and his body seemed to relax almost instantaneously. It wasn't long before breaths were calm and even. However, Shane was a light sleeper. he had to be. Any noise could wake him up, and if he so felt the need, he'd wake up with the help of instincts. Basically, no one was sneaking up on him in his sleep.

I will, if that's alright)
As morning light began to filter through the small space between the curtains, Shane's eyes cracked open. With a few blinks, he yawned and then stretched. His back ached from sleeping on the couch like he had, and it gave a few loud cracks as the tall man stood with a small groan. "Oh geez," came the breathy words. His night had been uneventful, thankfully, but that also meant his back was quite achy.
Looking around, he noticed the door to Phallon's room was still shut. "Still asleep, huh?" he asked quietly to himself then glanced at the clock. The black hands pointed to the eight and nine, indicating it was 8:45 AM. Stretching some more, the man went to the cupboards in the small kitchenette area. He began making eggs and toast, of which had been supplied by the Organization. Even though the place was pretty cruddy, at least they'd given them actual food and a working stove, as tiny as it was.

(Yeah, that's fine. ) Nearly eight hours of sleep didn't feel like enough for Phallon. In fact, there was a large chance that she would have stayed asleep longer had the smell of breakfast cooking not roused her from sleep. It was a strange scent to be waking up to. Did motels usually provide breakfast? She didn't think so. Sitting up, she listened to the sounds outside her room. She could hear the sound of someone moving around, sending panic to spark in her chest. Then, as sleep began to release her tired mind, she remembered Shane at stayed the night. At least, she was hope it was Shane who was cooking. The thought of falling back into her covers tempted her. She didn't want to face the day yet. However, she couldn't just hide in this room forever. Eventually, someone would come in and bother her, forcing her to do something. So, with a reluctant sigh, the woman stood and got out of bed. Not bothering to make the bed, she opened her room's door and walked out to the kitchen. When she got there, she saw Shane had almost finished cooking.

Four eggs fried together in the skillet, the man focused on them. However, the sound of the other door opening caused him to look up and over his shoulder. "Oh, hey there, sleepy head," he said with a rather cheerful tone. It was like this guy was never anything but happy or friendly, almost as if he had no other emotions in his head. He then teased, "Nice bedhead you got there."
Turning back to the eggs, he turned off the stove and set the skillet aside as the two pieces of toast popped up just then. Quickly and with smooth, fluid motions, he cut the eggs in half so they could each have two. Next, he pulled a plate from the higher up cupboard and placed the toast on it. Then, more toast was placed in the toaster before he set the loaded plate on the tiny dining table. "That's yours," he said, quickly getting out butter from the fridge and juice. Everything he did was so easily done, in such a way that suggested he'd done this all countless times before. But, who had he cooked for so often that it was this strong of muscle memory? In a matter of maybe a minute, her breakfast was sitting on the table ready for her, silver wear, juice, and all, and his was already half done. Maybe it could be considered impressive, the rate at which he cooked and prepared everything, or maybe just weird for being suspected a single, lone guy.

Phallon was slightly confused by his teasing before she realized that she didn't look in the mirror before she left her room. Her hair was indeed still a frizzy mess that would take several minutes to tame with a few more tangles in it than before. Unconsciously, she reached up to run a hand through her hair to try and put some orderly look to it. After a few attempts, she finally just gave up. As she did this, she watched as Shane moved around the kitchen with ease. Despite his height, he was actually graceful in his actions. It was a little unexpected.
"Picking locks and now cooking," she commented as she at down at the table, pulling her plate closer to her. "Is there anything you can't do?" Picking up a fork, she began to eat. The eggs were pretty good. Of course, she didn't have anyone else's cooking to compare it to. IT was still good nonetheless.

"No, not really," Shane replied with a slight chuckle. For obvious reasons, he couldn't mention his training and previous jobs, but he could tell her a few things. "I can bench press 420 pounds, am a black belt in karate, can pilot several types of helicopters, and I make a pretty good blueberry pie from scratch." He then turned with his breakfast and sat down across the tiny table from her, adding, "Not to brag or anything." Stabbing his fork into the yolk of his egg, he dipped the corner of his toast into it then ate it.
He loved all the things he could do, and loved his job. Most of the things were required by his job to learn, but they were all so useful or just cool mention. Even if he said 'not to brag,' it really was nice to be able to brag on occasion. The fact it was to a pretty girl made it even better. Though, he knew the very strict rules of not getting too attached to your assigned subject; he wasn't even allowed to give her such compliments on looks or anything unless it was directly related to helping get her life back on track. For example, just calling her pretty was against the rules in most cases. Even though his bosses would never really find out he said it. Oh well. At least he could brag on occasion to her, maybe show off his skills more often. Why not?

"That's the point," Shane responded casually but then paused for a second. He shouldn't have said that, as it could lead to suspicion. Come on! You're more professional than that! "I like being helpful to a lot of people, any time I can really. Plus, it's fun knowing so many things." Yeah, that cover up would have too do.
Now, the only real problem facing them was normal conversation. Considering she had no memories, like she shouldn't, he couldn't simply ask her what she liked or what interests she had. All he really knew was what he had to - her criminal background, relationships of any kind, and her medical records. So, what was there for him to talk about? usually, it ended up being things like news or their gameplan for the day, but neither of them had watched the news. Last night, they'd also briefly discussed going out to see if anyone knew her around town. That left him with the simplest but most awkward approach. "So, anything you feel like talking about?"

"Best thing we can really do is ask around the city, going on a little adventure. There really isn't much else we can do." With an added shrug of his shoulders he offered, "But what if you ran away from somewhere?" This was an idea that had always presented itself in his cases. It made sense usually since the subject had such bare minimum items, and they were always put int hotels or motels of some kind. It even helped with the idea that they should start over, forgetting they even had an old life in the first place. "Think about it." Now, Shane would leave it to her own mind to reason herself into believing it to be true.

"But you also don't have much money, right? Maybe this was the only place was the only one you could afford. Like, nicer and safer cities and towns aren't going have such cheap living spaces, right? You might not have memories, but I know you're smart. You'd probably know that saving as much as possible would be a good thing, right?" Shane had to convince her, if not of this, then anything else to get her to make a new life.
Of course, they wouldn't find anyone out there who really knew her. They'd shipped her out here, and him along with her, for a reason. This cruddy city was going to be the place she made a new life, or at least started trying to find a better one. However, Shane could already tell that Phallon wasn't going to be as easy of a case as the others had been. She was a lot more clever. Most had gone along with whatever he'd suggested, too confused and even scared to object. All but one had ended up with a good, new life to be proud of. Even if she was already harder to work with, to manipulate, he'd try his best. It was all for her sake.

He had a point. So far, she hadn't found any money, but there would possibly be a hidden wad of it somewhere in her duffel bag. If there wasn't any money, then she paid way too much for this motel room. Surely she had saved some to buy food with. Unless she had been robbed, thus explaining why she had woken up in an alley so late at night.
"It still doesn't feel right," she muttered as she finished off her eggs. "Then again, what do I know? It still wouldn't hurt asking around. I'm not talking anything major like putting up 'HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WOMAN?' posters, but if I did run away, then maybe we could ask the police about any missing person reports. It'd be a long shot, but it's a starting place."

"That seems like a good little plan," Shane agreed. They'd probably get nowhere with it, which was perfect, so he was completely onboard. Finished up his eggs he added, "I'll buy us some lunch while we're out there. Restaurants in cities, at least the ones that aren't super fancy, usually have TVs inside turned to the news or sports, so maybe something will be on the news there, too." Shane took his plate to the sink and began washed his own dishes, actually having to bend over a little to do so, to keep the stuff under the flow of water.
Secretly, he knew they wouldn't find anything at all. Police never filed missing cases for criminals. When they stopped committing crimes, they usually just assumed the criminal had died in some way and moved on after a while. Murder wasn't even looked into as a possibility. No one cared for criminals; he knew this all too well. He kind of felt bad for Phallon, but then again, he always felt bad for his subjects at first. They were always confused and even scared. It was like just having their memories taken away made them human again, made them normal. But, knowing what he did was helping this girl made everything alright.

"Well, we could go now if you're feeling up to it," Shane replied, now drying his hands on the towel next to the sink. "Okay, maybe not right now, because I think you'll want to do something about your bedhead first." His voice bounced with a chuckle as he brought up her messy hair again. His, however, looked fine. All he had to really do was run a hand through it a few times to look presentable.
"Check your bag for a brush if you haven't already." He hoped there was indeed a brush in that bag, along with the clothes he knew were there. Honestly, this was the first case he'd worked with a girl who had longer hair. Wandering back in his mind to last night when they'd met, he couldn't help but think how pretty she was. Sure, she'd just woken up from lying in the street at that time, but her hair wasn't nearly as messy as it was now. Eh, she was just pretty to him overall. "At least take a shower if you can. I probably should, too."

The idea of a shower sounded really nice to her. She felt as if she could still feel the grim from the alley way clinging to her. In a sense, it probably still was since she hadn't changed before going to bed. "We can leave after showers," Phallon agreed, quickly washing off her plate before drying it. "I'll get mine first since my bed head is obviously bothering you so badly." She gave a small smile, trying once more at a tone of easy playfulness. She still needed to work on it.
Putting up the now clean dishes, she turned and headed to get her some spare clothes. In the duffel bag, she found a shirt and a better pair of jeans, as well as a brush. So far, there wasn't any money in the bag that she could see, but then again, she hadn't checked all the compartments yet. That would be the next thing she looked for while Shane got his shower. With her clothes and brush in hand, she walked into the bathroom and locked the door behind her. A moment later, the shower could be heard running throughout the small motel room.

Shane gave a small smirk at her attempt of being playful. He knew she was trying, so that was good enough for him. Maybe some of his silliness would rub off on her in the coming days. Who knows?
While she got ready, he plopped down on the couch and turned on the small TV that was provided by the motel room. Maybe now he'd be able to catch up on some news. Then again, his report was due soon. The report came before TV, so he pulled out a cell phone from his pocket and went onto a special little app made just for the purpose of guardians to communicate with their bosses. Any possible time he could, he was to send in a report to them, telling his bosses how things were going so far. And, if need be, things such as items and special arrangements could be requested.
Tapping away on his phone, he heard the water begin to run, and so his mind started to wander. But, it only lasted for a couple seconds before he shook the dirty thoughts away. "Come on, Shane. You're more professional than this," he sighed to himself, continuing to type up that report.

Phallon took a bit longer in her shower than she had originally had planned. As soon as the water warmed up as much as it was going to, she stepped in and enjoyed the feeling of warmth it provided. It was like a person didn't realize how much they took showers for granted when they forgot how they felt to begin with. For the next five minutes, the woman stood under the water, letting her mind wander. When she finally snapped out of her daze, she finished washing off yesterday's grim, taking extra care of her hair. Thirty minutes later, the water was turned off and she wrapped a towel around her to dry off.
In another ten minutes, Phallon left the bathroom. Dressed an a plain sweatshirt and dark jeans, she tossed her old clothes into a random corner of her bedroom. She would wash them later. Along with clean clothes, she had managed to brush her hair. With the tangles completely gone, her hair was less frizzy and actually looked like curls. "Alright, your turn," she commented as she walked into the living room, spotting Shane on the couch.

Shane managed to type of a pretty good, lengthy report and send it a while before Phallon exited the bathroom. He had shoved his phone back in his pocket and now simply watched the news. Some story about a house catching fire was on. However, his attention was easily diverted from the TV when his subject spoke. "About time," he teased then stood up, turning to her. His eyes traveled up and down her body for a moment. "You look much better, pretty even." So to heck with some of those rules. If he had to, he could always tell his bosses that he did it to gain her trust more. Why calling a girl pretty was so bad anyway, he didn't know.
He didn't exactly have clean clothes with him, so he just walked right into the bathroom. Soon, the water started up again, and he stepped in. Smiling at the feeling of the water, he actually began humming.

Had she not had so much on her mind at the moment, Phallon might have blushed at the compliment. However, now she just kind of smiled awkwardly. It was a good thing he didn't wait for a response before heading to the bathroom. She didn't have to scrape her mind for a good comeback. Instead, she went to work searching her duffel bag for any sign of money. It hadn't been but maybe a minute before the sound of Shane's muffled humming reached her ears. A singer too, huh, Phallon thought to herself as she resumed her search. Was there ever an end to what he could do? The idea of asking him tempted her, but she pushed it away. Chances were he might leave after today, and they would never see each other again. It might not be a good idea to get to familiar with the man, no matter how curious she was about the tall stranger who had helped her.
"There you are," Phallon muttered, pulling out a small bundle of cash from one of the bag's side pockets. There wasn't much. Only three or four hundred dollars. It might last her a week, but then she'd have to find a way to replenish her savings.

In his own little world while the water hit his skin, he continued to hum happily. It wasn't some random tune either. The melody of one of his favorite songs was being recreated, Skin by Breaking Benjamin. When that songs was over, he moved onto another one of the band's songs. This continued for maybe 15 minutes before he got out, feeling much more fresh and clean than before. He dried himself then put his old clothes back on. When he walked out, he sighed at the feeling of being relaxed - a rare feeling for someone like him.
Glancing around the main area, he didn't see Phallon anywhere, but then he heard her quiet speech coming from the bedroom. He walked over and knocked on the wall before poking his head in the room, eyes closed. "I hope you're decent because I'm opening my eyes now," he warned then did exactly that, finding her on the floor by the black bag. "What'ch ya lookin' for?" the man inquired, stepping into the room and then crouching down beside her before she could really respond at all. "Money?" The wad in her hand was more than obvious. "I hope you're not planning on buying lunch, because I did say I'd take care of that." She had to save her money anyway, he knew.

The same as I do. XD Breaking Benjamin is awesome!)
Shane nodded as she spoke. "Yeah, I can understand that. But, I'm ready to go any time you are," he informed her, seeming excited to help her even though he knew on the inside they would find nothing. It would really be as if she had run away, leaving all traces of herself behind, wherever she'd come from.
Walking out once again to the living area, he grabbed his trench coat from the coat rack then slipped it on. Glancing at the clock and then his cheap watch, he took note of the time, and made sure his watch was set correctly. They ahd about two hours before lunch time. Now, he waited by the door for his companion, humming again.
