❝ What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. ❞Yeah, right. If that's what you tell yourself at night to justify waking up tomorrow, good for you. Just know that it's not true. What doesn't kill you leaves you exhausted and weak. What doesn't kill you threatens you, constantly, with no relief or rest. What doesn't kill you is a nightmare. What doesn't kill you is ready to pounce again, ready for round two. What doesn't kill you is worse than anything that ever could.
plotAround a year ago, a group of scientists referred to only as The Company were getting ready to perform an experiment. They claim that, if successful, this is the first step towards making man his best self - fearless. They ask for volunteers, they need six people they say. And six people they get, terrified and desperate enough to agree.
The group join them at their facilities, excited for the possibility of living a life where they won't be afraid. They undergo extensive testing and experiments that are supposed to take their darkest fear away and leave them stronger for it. They live through psychoanalysis and blood draws. During their free time, they take to exploring the facilities, curious. But they find something they did not expect, something that changes all of this.
With this new information to put things into perspective, the experiment no longer seemed tempting. They begin to protest in a desperate attempt to leave, ripping out IVs, refusing to answer questions asked by anyone but another member of the six. But the experiment is completed - this would all be a waste - and one morning they wake up different.
The experiment did not remove their fear. It twisted it into great power.
Afraid of what they could now do, the six repress their powers, refusing the training that's being offered to them. Useless now, they're cast out as failures. Society will be warned about them, they're told. They can never mention nor use their powers or they'll be imprisoned.
They stick together, knowing that a return to society without one another will be near impossible. They force their powers back, doing anything they can to avoid confronting them. Save for the accidents and rising panic, they learn to handle things. Until they hear word that The Company is going through with the experiment a second time. And this time, they're not taking volunteers.

infoSo you're still here? Welcome! Para Bellum - prepare for war - is, as you might have gathered, a small group rp based around the idea of powers and their connection to fear.
The roleplay takes place around the year 2033, and we will open up as the six are banished from The Company's facilities in Vermont, USA. They're left in a forest relatively close by. At this point, they will all know each other decently well, and they will all be aware that the others are experiencing the same issues as they themselves are. After a short while of us getting to know each other's characters, we'll skip ahead to when they receive the news of the second experiment and go from there.
The information that they uncovered is that they're being weaponised. So The Company knows about the sudden gain in power before the experiment is ever complete, and it's one of the main points of it. They intend to remove fear and replace it with a power that could destroy an army.
rulesAs always, this rp has rules I expect you to follow and respect. Please do read through them, no matter how boring it seems.1 - This is a semi-literate to literate rp, and as such, there are guidelines regarding what you can and cannot post. I ask that you give at least a paragraph of 5+ sentences and more if you want to. I won't set an upper limit, but please do bear in mind that if you write a ten paragraph post you may only get one or two paragraphs in response. 2 - I don't want this rp to crash and burn in the first week, so if you could post 3 or 4 times a week that would be wonderful, and that way nobody gets left behind. If you're missing for ten days, your spot will be opened back up again unless you've given prior warning. 3 - These forums have allowed a rating of PG-13 and no more, so that's what we stick to no matter what the content in question is. No exceptions. 4 - Be courteous, please. In rp, treat your fellow rpers with respect by refraining from godmoding, powerplaying and spotlighting. Out or rp, please do be friendly. If, for some reason, two of you get into a disagreement that you want to figure out, I'd like for that to be done through PM and not in this thread. 5 - There are six spots and six characters open, so everyone gets exactly one character. I would like for this to be somewhat balanced, so try not to make every single character female, for example. However, because of the themes this rp involves, this isn't really something vital; a slight unbalance is absolutely fine. LGBTQ+ characters are, of course, super welcome, as is any other minority your character belongs to. 6 - Something to note is that all of our characters will be extremely powerful as their power comes from fear and they all have such a strong one. Their main drawback is the fact that they are so afraid. They should not want to use their powers, and when they do they will be holding themselves back whether consciously or subconsciously. However, they are also brand new at them, so even if the raw power is there the control is not. Your character should not know how to perfectly control their powers on the first, second or even tenth try. 7 - To join, please use the form provided in the post below. Post your character in this thread and I'll add you as quickly as I can.
currentlyI'll do my best to keep track of time, seasons, most recent, big plot related happenings and announcements here.

Philipa Jane "PJ" Tyler | 22 | female | bisexual | 𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘶𝘯
Necromancy: the power to utilise magic involving the dead, life-force and/or souls. Necrophobia: the fear of death and the dead as well as things associated with it. Sage is a small woman, standing at only 5 foot and carrying very little on her bones. She's slim and lacks muscle, more so skinny than toned. She has thick, strawberry blonde hair that falls in soft waves to just past her shoulder blades. She has sharp features, softened only by the light dusting of freckles over the bridge of her nose and her warm brown eyes. Even her gestures are small and controlled, though she does tend to gesture a lot while speaking. She has a somewhat slouched posture and tends largely towards baggier clothes. Despite her size, PJ is a relatively loud person. She doesn't hesitate to state her mind and defend her opinions and often does so in a blunt manner. PJ is very picky when it comes to the people that she befriends and first impressions last a long time with her. However, she becomes loyal very quickly and she has a way of mothering the people she cares about. She's a very cautious person and doesn't like to take risks when her well-being, or the well-being of another person, hangs in the balance. PJ grew up as a quiet child in a very average family. It wasn't until her grandmother, who she was very close to, passed away that they realised she couldn't handle death. She had her first panic attack of several to follow at the funeral, and since then she's spent her life avoiding anything even remotely related to death. She recently graduated university with a degree in education and was moving on to become a math teacher when she heard about the experiments and decided to go ahead with it.
