An rp post. I'm kind of surprised that this is the last thing I copied, I posted it back on the 10th.
"Hm?" Vyra said as she turned to see who had spoken. She didn't recognize him, but he reminded her of the Japanese boy who'd explained the House to her. "Oh, my name's Vyra," she replied. She looked back at the hat again, turning it over a few times before putting it on her head. It was way too big and it fell down over her eyes so she had to push it up to see. "Is this part of the House? Are we outside?"

Which type of selection is exemplified by an environmental change that favors darker colored individuals over lighter and intermediate colored ones? a. relative b. directional c. stabilizing d. diversifying 8. Which of the following situations would be most likely to favor a speciation event? a. The separation of a subpopulation of deer by a newly enlarged river that can no longer be crossed. b. The appearance of a new mutation in the gene pool. c. The separation of two subpopulations of a bird species by a mountain range that can be crossed during the spring and summer. d. The appearance of a new trait in a subpopulation of frogs that decreases reproductive success.
9. Which of the following does not occur through evolution? a. harmful traits passed down from one generation to the next b. useful structures lose or change functionality c. highly beneficial traits that must evolve through a harmful intermediate form d. the appearance of traits that impair survival, but enhance reproductive success
10. Which type of radiometric dating is most appropriate for determining the exact age of a 450 myo fossil? a. uranium-238 b. carbon-14 c. dendrochronology d. luminescence
11. The ordering of rock layers: a. was done primarily during the 1800’s. b. occurred through the use of index fossils. c. was based on geologic principles established in the 1600’s. d. all of the above.
12. One example of an atavism found in humans is the: a. tail with which some children are born. b. appendix. c. the left recurrent laryngeal nerve. d. backwards organization of the eye.
13. Based on the fossil evidence, what is the most likely explanation for the abundance of marsupial species in Australia and their relative scarcity elsewhere? a. Marsupials evolved in modern day North and South America and migrated to Australia before it became an island and before the evolution of most placental mammals. b. Marsupials evolved specifically in Australia after it had become an island and placental mammals evolved everywhere else. c. Marsupials evolved two separate times, once in Australia and once in South America. d. Marsupials were the only mammalian species that were able to migrate to Australia across the ocean.
14. Which theory was proposed by Charles Lyell to explain the geology of Earth? a. catastrophism b. plate tectonics c. gradualism d. uniformitarianism
15. Which of the key tenants of Darwinism stems from the work of Thomas Malthus? a. species change gradually over time b. all species are descended from other species c. processes other than natural selection can cause evolutionary change d. all species can produce more offspring than their environment can support
16. All of the following are examples of pre-zygotic barriers, except: a. hybrid infertility b. mechanical isolation c. temporal isolation d. behavior isolation
17. Which condition is most likely to favor the fusion of two separate species that diverged from each other? a. the appearance of a new river that separates the habitats of two species of deer b. climate change that brings two separate species of bear into close proximity c. the production of viable, but non-fertile hybrids such as mules d. the continual production of inviable hybrid offspring

21. Which of the following is the best explanation for why cave-dwelling animals lack eyes and pigmentation? a. they are all descended from non-cave-dwelling species that lacked those traits b. they were lost due to a lack of selection pressure to maintain them c. they are all descended from a common ancestor that lacked those traits d. these species lost these traits and were forced to move into those environments to survive
22. During which era did photosynthetic organisms (early plants) move to terrestrial habitats? a. Ordivician (485 - 445 mya) b. Cambrian (542 - 485 mya) c. Devonian (420 - 360 mya) d. Carboniferous (360 - 300 mya)
